2019 Vw CrossPolo: Official Details, Photos And Specs

Volkswagen recently unveiled the CrossPolo, which finally completes the Polo lineup. It was only four months ago that the first photos of this model were released. VW offers three petrol and three common rail TDI engines for the CrossPolo, with power outputs ranging from 70 ps to 105 ps. Offered as standard are the petrol engines: 1.2l 70 ps, 1.4l 85 ps, 1.2l TSI 105 ps with a 6 speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, a 7 speed DSG automatic is being offered as an option. VW claims that the diesels, 1.6l with three power outputs ( 75 ps, 90 ps and 105 ps), are the quietest engines of their category. These come equipped with a particulate filter, which makes them emit just 113 grams of CO2/km. When comparing the CrossPolo to the base Polo version, you’ll notice that they differ in the heights of their stance as well as in some unique features that each have. For the exterior, the CrossPolo features individually styled front apron with integrated front fog lights and large air inlet, 17-inch alloy Budapest wheels in 5-spoke design and silver anodized roof rails. Buyers can choose from six exterior colors. In particular, the Magma Orange and Terra Beige Metallic were made exclusively for this model. For its interior, the car gets two-tone fabrics (four different color trims), sports seats, leather steering wheel and leather-trimmed parking brake handle. The CrossPolo features the following as standard: electric adjustable and heated door mirrors, electric window lifts, multi-function display with TPMS and height-adjustable sport seats.

And the answer, thankfully, is no; quite the opposite, in fact. We spent most time in the 123bhp EcoBoost, which gets a twist-beam rear suspension configuration instead of the more sophisticated multi-link arrangement that features on the 1.5 petrol and 2.0 diesel. Start your journey in town, as so many of us do, and you’ll find the Focus quick to respond when you turn the wheel to cut through traffic. But this doesn’t mean it’s nervous at speed; there’s just about enough play off centre for the car to remain composed on motorways. It’s comfortable, too, the primary and secondary rides working nicely together to soften all but the very sharpest of jolts from the road below. And then you find a twistier bit of road, and the Focus trots out its party piece. Because it’s here that the car really stands out from the pack - and, truth be told, its immediate predecessor. Don’t expect the steering to chat away to you all the time, but the electrically powered set-up goes down as one of the best we’ve experienced in a family hatch. Suffice to say, you will very quickly learn to lean on the Focus’s front end.

Of course, none of this front-end bite would matter if the rest of the package felt like it were being dragged, kicking and screaming, through rapid changes of direction. But it doesn’t. There’s the faintest, fleeting feeling of weight transfer, but it passes so quickly that it’s unlikely to ever be an issue. On the right road it’s more fun than a family car has any right to be. The caveat here is that Ford’s launch took place in southern France, where the roads are generally a bit smoother and quieter than those in the UK. The highest-powered 1.0 has more than enough to make a Fiesta feel quick, but it’s dealing with an altogether bigger vehicle here. It’ll be fine for most, and once you’re up to speed any three-cylinder grumbles from the engine fade away, making it an excellent cruiser. The 1.5 is faster than the 1.0, of course - not just because of the headline power and torque figures, but also because of how this extra shove and grunt are delivered.
