2019 Volkswagen Golf Mk8: First Pictures Of Mule Show New Cabin Tech

The basis for the next Golf is an updated version of the versatile MQB platform used by today’s model. VW insiders suggest it will use a greater percentage of lightweight metal than the existing structure for a 50kg reduction in weight. Planned modifications to the construction process are also said to provide more streamlined production and reduced build times as part of a strategy aimed at improving the economy of scale and profitability of VW’s best-selling model. Those privy to the latest clay model mock-ups say the new Golf advances the classic hatchback look of its predecessors, with familiar proportions, reinterpreted details and simple surfacing to make it instantly recognisable as a Golf. Key styling features described to Autocar include a thin horizontal grille bookmarked by smaller angular headlights than those in use today, with a distinctive LED daytime running light graphic. The new car is also said to have more pronounced wheel arches and a heavily defined side swage line, in combination with typically wide C-pillars and a relatively upright tailgate. VW plans three bodystyles: three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback and estate. There are no plans to develop a successor to today’s cabriolet model. With a moderate increase in track widths at the front and rear, along with a slightly longer wheelbase and reduced rear overhang, the new Golf is said to offer greater interior space than the current car. As with the exterior, the cabin has been designed to be familiar to existing Golf owners.

However, I should mention that this European i3 didn’t come equipped with quick charging capabilities as standard, but only if you purchase the Premium Package which includes it. And yes, the figures claimed by BMW do match what I noticed in real life. Charging the i3 at a 50kW station is quite impressive, as I managed to get some extra 50 kilometers of range with a simple 10-minute charge. Most of the time though, I used a Type 2 charger with a capacity of 11kW which allowed me to fully charge the car in about 4 and a half hours. Using a household socket would only work if you left the car to charge overnight. As for the range anxiety topic, I think it can only become an issue if you don’t manage your expectations. What that means is that BMW had a fleet of electric MINIs running around in the US and Europe for a couple of years before launching the first i3, to see just how long the average daily commute is. Their findings showed that getting to work is usually within the 10-kilometer mark (6.2 miles) and that you’ll probably drive for about 20 kilometers a day just going to work and doing some chores. That’s why they created the first i3 to allow you to do that without a problem, possibly even allowing you to recharge your car once a week. The best bit of news though is that BMW is applying the same recipe it has been following for decades when it comes to electric vehicles as well. They started off with a car that is now being refined over successive generations, with small tweaks that ultimately will lead to a great product.

The hole plays uphill on the approach and features one last look at the glorious lighthouse in the background before you make your way towards the finishing stretch. The 17th hole, formerly the easiest on the course, has been converted from a mid-length par five into an exceptionally challenging long par four that can stretch to over 500 yards. The 18th, renamed to commemorate the historic "Duel in the Sun", has benefited from the addition of a new elevated back tee, lengthening the hole and straightening out what used to be an awkward dogleg into a suitably rewarding finisher. I have to admit that I came into my day at Turnberry with relatively low expectations. It's a very expensive place to play and the controversy surrounding its owner also didn't help build anticipation for my visit. However, I was charmed right from the start, with impeccable service in the pro shop and locker room to the enchanting pre-round warmup on the "Wee Links". And, as you can likely tell by my lengthy review, I was pretty much blown away by the entire experience of playing the Ailsa Course.

We played Turnberry on a cold and dreary day and dealt with driving rain and 3-4 club winds for almost the entire back nine, limiting the amount of photos that were taken on the closing holes. But the weather did nothing to dampen our spirits and our enthusiasm for the Ailsa Course. It sits on the most glorious of sites and you can't help getting a bit spiritual as you walk those incredibly scenic seaside holes, especially the three holes closest to the famous lighthouse. Turnberry's Ailsa course is unquestionably one of the most stunningly beautiful seaside links courses on the planet, features compelling architecture and remains a serious challenge for the best players in the world. I truly hope the Open returns one day to this historic site and I can say with absolute assurance that I will personally be back someday to enjoy the world-class experience that Turnberry provides.

So I hadn’t planned on being in the market for a new car but life said otherwise. Went in after a stressful experience the day prior at another dealership and explained my situation and my budget and was told they would do their best! That was an understatement to say the least. After test driving a couple Jettas we I was able to finance a BRAND NEW Jetta that fit into my budget. The guys at the dealership really handled everything just right. They understood where my payments needed to be and didn’t push anything outside of that. Everyone was incredibly nice. Overall experience was fantastic. Quick work on recall service and really worked on getting me an appointment right away! As a young woman buying my very first car all on my own, I was terrified.
