Volkswagen GTI, Buy A Volkswagen GTI

Volkswagen GTI, Buy A Volkswagen GTI

The Volkswagen GTI is a performance variant of the long-running Volkswagen Golf compact hatchback. The Golf was originally introduced in 1974, and the Golf GTI followed in 1976. The first Golf GTI reached the United States in 1980, a 90 horsepower sport version of the Volkswagen Rabbit. Since the first-generation Golf was called the Rabbit in the United States, the performance model was thus known as the Rabbit GTI. A GTI model has been available for all seven generations of the Golf, and in later years Volkswagen began to treat the GTI as a separate model, rather than simply a more upscale trim line of the Golf. Like the other Volkswagen A-platform cars (the Golf, of course, as well as the Jetta sedan) the GTI was typically a front-mounted engine, front-wheel-drive car. Gas and diesel versions of the GTI have been available throughout its life, although Volkswagen tailors availability of these engines based on market, so not all engine options are available globally. Generally, the GTI has always looked quite similar to the Golf it was derived from, although the GTI got special treatment.

Typically, a GTI gets sport front bucket seats rather than the Golf鈥檚 budget-friendly seating along with other interior upgrades, a sportier suspension, larger alloy wheels with sport tires, and a higher performance exhaust. Exterior cosmetic upgrades are also common. Early GTI models were often distinguished by better lighting, an occasional limited edition exterior color, and GTI badging. Later models often received exclusive body trim with more aggressive front and rear bumpers, and other options such as rear hatch spoilers or side skirts, as well as sportier interiors designed to cater to the driver. The GTI typically offered engines that were higher performance than the Golf (though, at times, high-end Golfs matched the GTI鈥檚 specs). Recognition of the GTI鈥檚 performance potential increased as it became a favorite of some motorsports teams. The GTI鈥檚 longevity has been marked by special anniversary editions of the car, as well as other special editions. Early GTIs are still sought after by collectors.

The Beetle, the Hippie Van, the Jetta . Volkswagen brand has become a success. Since its inception in 1937, Volkswagen has become one of the most dominant names in the auto industry, establishing a reputation not only for making high-quality automobiles and Volkswagen parts but also for pushing innovations in automotive engineering. And Volkswagen continues this tradition by incorporating the latest in automotive innovations in Volkswagen cars and Volkswagen spare parts, resulting in enhanced performance, safety, functionality, and a more enjoyable driving experience overall. If you have just bought or are planning on buying a new Volkswagen vehicle, here are just some of the latest technologies you can expect from its auto lineup. A common sight in most Volkswagen passenger vehicles, the TSI engine promises to maximize power and fuel efficiency. TDI diesel technology and FSI engines, the TSI engine combines low capacity cylinders, turbochargers, and direct injection to produce a balanced power output.

Maximum torque is also made available at low revs, significantly cutting down on fuel consumption and noise levels. In addition, the TSI engine also works well with genuine Volkswagen performance parts, which provide added horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency. The DSG dual-clutch gearbox is one of the more significant innovations from Volkswagen, in the sense that it combines the benefits of manual and automatic transmissions. And the technology is rather simple: the gearbox changes automatically into the preselected next gear without interrupting traction. This results in an almost-imperceptible change in the gear as it lasts for only a few hundredths of a second. In addition, the DSG enables the driver to change shifting styles, from driving economically or sportily, for a completely enjoyable driving experience. Energy released during braking is directly stored into the battery, relieving the engine from the burden and thus reducing its fuel consumption. Some of these features include the ability to see the latest changes in traffic as well as access various functions in the car remotely. The service can also sync with selected Volkswagen accessories and gadgets; the App-Connect system, for instance, allows smartphone apps such as MirrorLink, CarPlay, and Android Auto to connect to the infotainment system. Volkswagen is well known for the quality of its interior audio systems especially those in high-end models, and this continues with the latest Volkswagen vehicles. Today, Volkswagen cars are fitted with DYNAUDIO and Fender sound systems that offer first-rate sound as well as .individual sound concepts.

The heavy snow came and ruined everything 鈥?everything related to driving, anyway. It was late winter, early March, when thoughts were turning to spring. It seemed a good time to take delivery of the redesigned 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI Autobahn, smartly dressed in 鈥渢ornado red鈥?paint and outfitted with 18-inch-diameter, low-aspect-ratio (narrow height to rim, wide tread) tires. Such rubber is great for handling the often tremendous lateral forces of spirited driving 鈥?on dry roads. They, in fact, are often referred to as 鈥渟ummer performance tires.鈥?Translation: They are lousy and not the least bit advisable for driving 鈥?that is, trying to drive 鈥?in wet, heavy snow. Life in the GTI Autobahn was so much fun 鈥?for my wife, Mary Anne, anyway 鈥?before that early-March snowfall. I was out of the country, attending the 85th annual Geneva International Motor Show, one of my favorites, envious of Mary Anne鈥檚 long-distance reports of all the fun she was having driving the GTI Autobahn. Partly because of her glowing GTI Autobahn stories, and because of weather forecasts of an approaching late-winter storm on the East Coast of the United States, I cut my Geneva visit short.
