CES 2019: Volkswagen Introduces E-Golf Touch Vehicle: Comes With Gesture Controls

Got my degree in the mail today! Suggestions on uses while I job hunt?
Volkswagen announced a new version of its vehicle, the e-Golf Touch in Consumer Electronics Show 2016 (CES). The vehicle supports gesture controls, despite the word ‘touch’ included in its name, which makes it different from the regular e-Golf models. It comes with a 9.2-inch configurable home screen and wireless charging for every passenger in the vehicle. An individual, infotainment layout can also be saved for individual drivers for shared vehicles. According to Volkswagen, in the future drivers will be able to take their own layouts to other VW vehicles. The e-Golf Touch will support Android Auto and CarPlay, in addition to being the first vehicle to get an updated version of VW’s voice control system. The company stated that the system has improved controls and shows what you are saying on screen. The e-Golf Touch will also get inductive charging in both the front and back seats for wirelessly power devices that supports it.

As for Now on the Tee, you can expect to see much more content in 2019, with my goal being an article every week. That's right - I plan on writing 52 different pieces in 2019! The bulk of the content I have planned in 2019 will come in the form of golf course profiles. I have thousands of golf course photos in my archives that haven't seen the light of day and it's time to share them with my readers. I haven't profiled any of the Scottish courses I visited in 2017 so I'm going to start there, writing about my first-ever overseas round that took place at Western Gailes Golf Club on the Ayrshire coast. I recently bought Luminar 3, the new photo editing software from Skylum that was on sale over Christmas. It's a very sophisticated program but pretty "newb" friendly, which is why I went in that direction over the seemingly more complex and robust Affinity Photo. The picture at the top of the page of Lookout Point was one of my first efforts using the new software and I think that photo came out looking pretty damn good! I'm really looking forward to going through my extensive library of photos and touching them all up before uploading them here for my course profiles. I'm also planning to put a lot more work into my personal fitness, diet and my golf game in 2019. I'm turning 46 in April so improving flexibility, strength and endurance is going to be vital going forward. Thanks to all my readers for sticking with me. As indicated, you can look forward to seeing new content weekly here at Now on the Tee and I hope you come back often to read about my exploits.

Over time, you can loosely map the progress of affordable electric cars by the way they travel from Autocar’s offices to the test tracks we use. All of the ‘ordinary’ EVs we’ve tested have reached the circuit that we use for photography, about 30 miles away, under their own power - even if some (Renault Twizy) have needed recharging when they get there. But MIRA’s proving ground, in Leicestershire, is a different matter. The Mini E, Renault Zoe and early Nissan Leaf have needed stops en route or to be taken by trailer. A Tesla, however - Roadster, Model S or Model X - will do it in its stride. Any range-extended EV will call on fossil fuel reserves. The current hope is this Volkswagen e-Golf, priced and sized to compete with the Nissan Leaf and BMW i3. It’s time to see how it fares, not just on the drive to the test track but also when it gets there and on all roads and sundry in between.
