The once-obscure Volkswagen Routan ninivan is a top pick among Generation X car shoppers, a survey says. If you have noticed a lot of minivans on the road lately it may be because parents in their 30s and 40s are snapping them up. A survey of car buyers indicates the once-edgy demographic group known as Generation X is looking for safety, space and other family values in their vehicles. The most popular brands included Volkswagen, Land Rover and Audi. Surprisingly 鈥?or not so surprisingly 鈥?minivans dominated the roster of top models. 鈥淕eneration X buyers have a work hard/play hard mentality and chose cars that were comfortable and convenient for their lifestyle. They chose larger, more luxurious cars to take their families on vacations or kids to play soccer with ample room to store equipment and luggage,鈥?said Kristen Andersson, an analyst with TrueCar. Average paid is the estimated average transaction price of a vehicle after incentives. Percent Discount from MSRP is rounded to the nearest tenth.

In the days of film I tried to photograph everything with my wooden 4x5 field camera. It was large, heavy and cumbersome but it was really easy to focus on the large groundglass, even though the image was upside down. Ef 40mmm f2.8 lens and adapter, 1/200sec and F5.6 at f8. All the controls are visible on the screen, but only when one needs them. All one has to do is turn the rear control dial and the shutter speed, aperture and iso becomes instantly visible and just touching any of these settings enables one to change them. A touch of the shutter button and the screen is cleared and the new settings are stored ready for the next exposure. What can be simpler than this? All the images were perfectly in focus and I did not even enlarge the image on the LCD to check focus. I trust the AF to be spot on everytime.

I also know of course that at f8 ,small little variations in AF will easily be covered. Eos M passed the test with flying colours. The Eos M does two jobs, one as a backup camera and another as a focal length multiplier. The price of the Eos M is less than half of the price of a Canon 45mm TS lens, and I actually prefer the slightly wider view of the 38mm 'converted' lens to the almost standard 45mm view. Eos M and TS-E 24 mm f3.5 mk2 lens. Eos M and TS-E 24 mm f3.5 mk2 lens. Both the images above were made with the manual focus Canon Ef 24mm TS. For interiors I use iso100 for the best quality and usually set the aperture between f11 and f22 to get maximum depth of field. The images are very high quality and the only way to see the difference between the Eos M and the Eos 5d2 is to look in the shadows where some noise is visible.

I have printed these images very large, up to size 24 x 20inches and they look very good. For interiors the Eos M works very well and only using the Lcd to focus and compose with is much easier than one would think. I also use this method with my 5D2 but with the Eos M the screen is more intuitive and as a result easier to use. Its time Canon standardizes these wonderful touch screens across the whole range! The photograph below is part of some publicity photographs for my daughters school play. They performed for four nights at the Grahamstown festival and it was written and directed by one of the pupils. The students had made a small set with the stage curtains as a backdrop. When I got there the existing stage lighting was a bit inadequate so I had to use a 1000w tungsten halogen light softened somewhat with a white translucent umbrella. I used my 24-105L zoom with the iso set at 1600 to stop subject movement. The five images below were made during a jazz concert of Barbora Tellinger at the Musaion of the Unvercity of Pretoria.

Image via WikipediaHERNDON, Va.鈥?The all-new Volkswagen Bulli concept car was named the "Most Fun" vehicle by Autoweek editors at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The VW Bulli - or Microbus as it's known by beloved fans in the U.S. VW vans all the way back to the original Bulli created more than 60 years ago. Image via CrunchBaseWith this latest concept model, Volkswagen finished what it started ten years ago with the Bulli concept of 2001. This latest showstopper seats six on the bench seats that fold down into a large reclining surface. The new and improved vehicle is powered by an electric motor and features an infotainment control via iPad. The Bulli accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 11.5 seconds, and its top speed is 87 mph (electronically limited). Its range and driving performance not only make the compact vehicle ideal for short distances; but also perfect for longer commutes and recreational activities - with an added bonus of zero tailpipe emissions. Autoweek's Editors Choice Awards for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show will appear in the March 21 issue of the magazine. Founded in 1955, Volkswagen of America, Inc. is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen is one of the world's largest producers of passenger cars and Europe's largest automaker. Volkswagen sells the Eos, Golf, GTI, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, CC, Tiguan, Touareg and Routan through approximately 600 independent U.S. All 2011 Volkswagen vehicles come standard-equipped with Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This is important because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has called ESC the most effective new vehicle safety technology since the safety belt.

Here all conceivable functions are controlled via a touchscreen that - using proximity sensors - reacts to gestures as well, i.e. specific hand movements. Menuing was retooled and reorganized so that people without computer science educations would be able to operate the system. The developers intentionally separated "display" and "control" levels from one another. Always shown on the screen is a control bar with standard functions such as climate control or audio volume control. Developers packaged functions of other higher-order systems - navigation, telephone, radio, Internet, images, films, etc. - on a display level that has been referred to internally as the "main menu carousel" - a type of virtual carousel. It consists of the icons of different system functions (telephone, navigation, etc.). When the user touches the "main menu carousel" it can be rotated by touchscreen. Visually, this control is just as spectacular as it is intuitive. When the desired function appears on the main menu carousel - such as the telephone - the user just needs to move his or her hand to the display to switch to the telephone menu thanks to proximity sensor technology. It was true on the up! The new type of user control is fun, easy to understand in any cultural environment and very safe. That is precisely what is typical of Volkswagen. Toward the end of this decade, the first Volkswagen customers might be able to enjoy this new generation of intuitive controls aboard the New Small Family.

The 2014 Volkswagen Eos comes standard with VW's new Car-Net telematics system, which includes security and convenience features like roadside assistance and remote vehicle access. Trim levels and equipment are also revised this year. It turns out to be an apt name, since the VW Eos is a convertible. It's a good one, too, with a rich, well-built, four-passenger interior that's nicely sealed off from both wind noise and the elements by a standard retractable hardtop. As for that team of horses, the 2014 Volkswagen Eos's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine provides punchy performance while returning good fuel economy. This, along with the car's relaxed ride, makes it a natural for road trips, whether you leave the top up or put it down. On the other hand, apart from the A5, none of these competitors is as polished on the inside as the 2014 Volkswagen Eos, and only the Chrysler can even be optioned with a retractable hardtop. For these reasons, we continue to recommend this goddess-of-the-dawn convertible to shoppers who are more interested in a comfortable, refined driving experience than trendy design or sporty handling. The 2014 Volkswagen Eos is a four-passenger convertible with a retractable hardtop roof. There are three trim levels: Komfort, Sport and Executive.

The Eos has been substantially updated for 2012, with fresh styling front and rear, new interior appointments and more standard equipment, including HD radio and keyless unlocking and start. Yet it remains what it has been since its introduction: a good compromise between practical daily transportation and sporty, emotion-fueled sun worship. The updated 2012 Eos comes with only one engine-transmission combination. Its 2.0-liter, 200-hp turbocharged engine, used in many VW and Audi vehicles, is economical to operate and quite powerful for its size. It's smooth and comfortable for commuting, and fun when a driver gets enthusiast. The 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox works fine as a fully automated transmission, which it is. Yet it's also one the sportiest automatics available, and better suited to a fairly small engine than most. 34,000, the 2012 Volkswagen Eos Komfort comes very well equipped, with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a decent stereo with CD changer and satellite radio, three years scheduled maintenance included.

The interior is nicely finished and user friendly. The Eos Lux adds leather seating and navigation, while the Executive adds larger wheels, a firmer sport suspension and premium audio. All models come with a folding hardtop that disappears under the trunk lid, the likes of which were once reserved for very expensive cars. The top is made of glass and steel, rather than conventional fabric, and it automatically opens in 25 seconds from inside or outside the car. Like more expensive European jobs, the Eos has a pop-up roll bar that automatically deploys behind the rear seats and adds crash protection. Want a bit less sunshine? The forward portion of the top will simply slide rearward, working like a big, wide sunroof. With the top up, the Eos is as snug, quiet and solid as the typical small coupe. It also rides comfortably, and even with the top down, it's largely free of the shake and rattles that plague some moderately priced four-seat convertibles. It handles predictably, and the sport suspension on the Executive model makes it a bit more responsive.

It accommodates two with good space, and four in a pinch, though we wouldn't recommend it for four adults beyond a quick jaunt to the beach on a sunny day. There are at least seven convertibles with lower base prices than the Eos, some substantially so. Some get better mileage; others are roomier, more powerful or more fun to drive in the purist's sense. The Chrysler 200 convertible offers the same sort of folding hardtop for a bit less cash. Yet few if any of those convertibles match the Eos for its overall combination of fun, practicality, security and convenience. Full Review Consider the Volkswagen Eos an everyday, all-season convertible. The Eos is good on gas, lively, carefree and comfortable, if more so for those riding in front. The Eos has been substantially updated for 2012, with fresh styling front and rear, new interior appointments and more standard equipment, including HD radio and keyless unlocking and start.
