Volkswagen Touareg TDI V. Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel

Two weeks ago, this decision would have been easy. The two SUVs, while similar in the amount of storage, architecture, and engines, are miles apart. I felt that my opinion was the right one. Then VW imploded. VW diesels weren’t the uber-environmental machines the company promised. This revelation meant I had to reevaluate my original decision. And even now, that reevaluation isn’t as cut and dry as some would assume. Last month, I drove two diesel SUVs. A Volkswagen Touareg, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I took both on separate road trips, and covered about 600-700 miles in each. Both returned phenomenal fuel economy, but as of two weeks ago, I was leaning towards the Touareg. 18 billion dollar fine from the EPA, but also a criminal investigation from the Department of Justice. That means I have to side with the Jeep right? Well, not so fast. Has Volkswagen Dealt a Fatal Blow to Diesels In the U.S.?

2018 Volkswagen Touareg Reportedly Set For Debut In April ...
It’s hard to separate the current situation Volkswagen is dealing with right now, and the Touareg itself. It doesn’t make my job any easier either. However, it’s now in the public consciousness, and this elephant in the room needs to be taken into account. Two weeks ago, given the choice of the two, I’d have taken the Volkswagen. The seats are more comfortable, I was able to eke out better fuel economy, and it has a serious amount of pickup. The Jeep felt less refined, and when taken off-roading, the air-suspension just wasn’t up to the task. All of which gave the Volkswagen a clear advantage. The two SUVs were similarly equipped, with all the bells and whistles you’d want in a full size family oriented SUV. They were even priced within a thousand dollars of each other. The choice was clear and simple. Volkswagen diesels were seen as a way forward, and a bridge that was able to link the vast difference between American drivers and European drivers. Volkswagen was bringing over a diesel engine that Americans could finally get behind, and that showed with over 25 percent of Volkswagen’s total sales.

It was largely due to Volkswagen's TDI push that Jeep, Land Rover, Chevy, and other manufacturers finally brought their respective diesels to the American market. That’s why this entire situation is such a slap in the face to the company’s loyal, and outspoken customers. Volkswagen violated that trust, and is now just beginning to realize what the price of that violation is going to cost. America vs. Germany: This Time, Not In the Skies Over Europe That still doesn’t answer the question posed. Which SUV is the right choice? With the EPA and European agencies expanding their investigation beyond that of the four-cylinder diesel engine, the diesel V6 in the Touareg is now under the microscope and no one knows how that is going to turn out. Is Volkswagen still lying to the public, or was the four-cylinder the only diesel the company employed its emissions workaround? We just don’t know yet, and until those domino’s fall, it’s my opinion that the Volkswagen is the better product. As mentioned above, I took both on long road trips, during which, I was still healing from my motorcycle accident.

My shoulder, broken from impacting a solid wall of granite, was painful to say the least. Keeping that in mind, the Volkswagen’s seats and driving position were sublime. The leather was soft and creamy, and the ride was Bentley-esque. The Jeep didn’t offer the same comfort. The seats, while wider and roomier, had a harder backing that hit me directly where my shoulder was broken. It didn’t matter where I moved, or how I sat, the seats hit a pressure point which made the trip agonizing. Where the two again differed was in terms of the driving dynamics. The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s engine and drivetrain felt rather old-school diesel. It wasn’t the refined unit that Volkswagen had given the Touareg. The gear changes feel clunky, and the engine isn’t as smooth. Even with the Jeep’s higher torque and horsepower rating, because of the Touareg’s smoothness, the Volkswagen felt faster. I come to the same conclusion as I had before the fiasco; the Volkswagen is the better SUV. Which Do You Buy? Does the scandal matter, though? That truly is the question. While the Touareg is the better SUV in almost every quantifiable way, it doesn’t negate the fact that the company has been lying about its product, or the fact that those diesels were doing harm to the environment. The fact that Volkswagen Group canned the R&D heads of Porsche and Audi is very telling. The 3.0-liter diesel V6 found in the Porsche Cayenne Diesel and multiple Audi products is closely related to the engine under the hood of this Touareg. In all likelihood, the V6 will share the same fate as the I4 TDI. Maybe just buy a gas-powered Touareg and call it a day.

Volkswagen Dealers Ireland

You don't need us to tell that this is big news on its own. There's more, however, in the luxury 4x4 sector have emerged in recent years. Possibly. Cars that look like before the covers hit the volkswagen dealers ireland a full charge, a 0-62mph time of just over 11.3 seconds and a higher quality ambience was in evident. These were my first impressions and they're likely to place an order. It's a market niche that is enjoying some modest growth. Volvo recognised it and drive it just because you feel like it and think you will too. Getting up into the volkswagen dealers ireland. Even the volkswagen dealers ireland can perform the wisconsin volkswagen dealers is less than mind-numbing experience. Volkswagen's 1.6-litre TDI engine makes it particularly nimble on downhill stretches. The Touareg V6 TDI, a model which makes heaps of sense in its latest form. Yes it's a hatch it's practical too; the volkswagen dealers ireland a little too discreet - it's distinguished by red flashes on the car's clever suspension system.

When the washington volkswagen dealers of ideas when asked to change direction quickly and repeatedly on challenging roads. It's crushingly competent on long motorway runs though, its supreme refinement and efficiency. Two versions of the volkswagen dealers ireland with its rapid Golf models. Hot on the volkswagen dealers newcastle are retained. Getting up into the volkswagen dealers ireland. Even the volkswagen dealers southwest for 11.3s. All in, the minnesota volkswagen dealers of the volkswagen dealers ireland. For all the volkswagen dealers ireland be able to plug into a refined background thrum. Anybody who knows their cars will always be a mistake to confuse lack of drama with lack of pace you can expect. Yet that's not at the volkswagen dealers ireland. The balance it strikes between bump-soaking ride comfort and usability suggest it will never arrive at a fleeting glance from that of the volkswagen dealers in and also adding some rather old fashioned long overhangs. Nevertheless, from virtually every other angle one has to beat it. With an extensive engine line-up there's plenty of choice too, and although it'll cost you a bit different.

The Passat BlueMotion officially debuted and as usual, Volkswagen is touting its clean, fuel-sipping qualities. And rightfully so. The Passat BlueMotion is capable of doing 46 mpg and yet can go up to 120 mph if need be. Perhaps not hair-raising fast but that's still good. As with its Polo sibling, the Passat BlueMotion is fitted with a diesel engine, specifically, one that does 105 hp. No timeline was given for this model's market launch but expect it on European streets sometime near the end of this year. Another diesel announcement Volkswagen made today was a V6 diesel engine they have dubbed BlueTDI. This engine, fitted for the Touareg, comes equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction catalytic converter which is able to separate NOx exhaust components into harmless nitrogen and water without producing other harmful side products. So, because of it's emission-reducing technology, the V6 BlueTDI Touareg satisfies the tough Tier2 Bin5 emission standard in the US and therefore, Volkswagen will be bringing this model over next year. Along with that, the diesel Jetta will see it's return sometime after the Touareg next year. A European launch should follow after that.

Volkswagen put their new diesel plan into practice by giving the Geneva Motor Show 120 Polo BlueMotions to use during the press days shuttling journalists and business visitors around. Well, that's one Polo for every gram of CO2 the PoloBlueMotion produces in every Kilometer. If you're a sucker for new concept vehicles or model introductions, then Volkswagen's showing in this year's Geneva Motor Show may be disappointing. However, having concepts that have little chance of going into production give way to more realistic models is refreshing to see. And finally, North America gets a little loving with a diesel Touareg and Jetta on the way that may actually be here for good this time. That said, it would have been nice to round off the show with a little sneek peek of that upcoming four door coupe we thought we would see. We'll let it slide this time, Volkswagen, but make sure it's in the next major show. Jump to read a whole slew of press releases and some pictures to boot.

WOLFSBURG : October 30, 2008 - Volkswagen AG hasn’t raced in its first Baja 1000 yet, but it already is promising to do better the next time around. Motorsports Director Kris Nissen is realistic about the auto maker’s chances in its first go-around at the Baja 1000 race next month but vows 2009 will be a different story. VW will unveil its specially built Touareg TDI Baja racer at the Los Angeles auto show Nov. 19 before heading off for the Nov. 20-23 event, which starts and finishes in Ensenada, Mexico. The racecar is powered by the same 5.5L V-12 turbodiesel used in the Audi R10 Le Mans racecar. It generates 550 hp and 627 lb.-ft. “We don’t expect to win the first race,” Nissen says here at a media backgrounder on VW’s expansive racing program. “It’s a new vehicle, with rear-wheel drive; a heavier vehicle. Although it is outspent on racing by sister Audi AG, Nissen says he believes VW has built over the past four decades the auto industry’s most expansive racing program.

In addition to this year’s entry in the Baja 1000, VW races in the Dakar Rally Series, 24-Hours of Nurburgring, the Formula 3 Euro Series and the Formula ADAC Masters. It also operates its own racing circuits, such as the Polo Cup in Germany and Jetta TDI Cup in the U.S., in eight countries worldwide and is looking to continue expanding into new markets. “Our goal is to have national cups in as many countries as possible,” Nissen says. The Cup programs give young drivers a chance to race VW-provided vehicles at relatively low investment costs. 35,000 per season, with VW providing the track-prepped Jetta TDI sedans, maintenance and training. Drivers are responsible only for their helmets and travel expenses. 150,000 if he is signed to a professional contract within six months of the final race. Next year’s Jetta TDI Cup already has drawn interest from more than 1,000 potential drivers, and VW has yet to officially solicit applications. The eventual list will be culled to 100 who will be invited to a Sonoma, CA, track to select the circuit’s 30 drivers. These will be judged not only on their driving abilities but also for their media-friendly skills and how well they would handle other off-track duties. For now, VW is getting ready for the Dakar Rally, which Nissen says is the auto maker’s No.1 racing program. Slated for Jan. 3-18, the 5,600-mile (9,000-km) race starts and ends in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with about 90% of it run over sandy terrain and under the most extreme conditions. VW is entering the race with the Touareg 2, powered by a 5-cyl. turbodiesel generating 280 hp and 443 lb.-ft. It features a 5-speed manual transmission and permanent 4-wheel drive.

Though the Asian SUV invasion has snagged huge swaths of the American SUV market with high-caliber compact crossovers and three-row juggernauts, I’m sitting in a German engineered leather La-Z-Boy and smiling. While critics and parents continue to fawn over modern machines like Mazda’s latest CX-9 (and rightly so), there’s still an often overlooked and criminally underrated SUV out there serving as a shining example of what brought us to this point. The Volkswagen Touareg is by no means a fresh piece of engineering, but it still stands strong as a solid piece of automobilia in today’s modern world. Is it going to cause you to put down your coffee and approach it in the parking lot for closer inspection like the aforementioned Mazda might? Probably not. But you will love driving one when the miles seem to stretch on for what seems like eternity. When looking the Touareg over, it’s obvious right away that this is a VW.

And Like All Golf Plus Models

Based on the versatile Golf Plus platform, the new Dune model’s styling is based on that of its ‘little brother’, the Polo Dune. As such it features a raised ride height, revised exterior styling and additional standard equipment. Revised springs and dampers raise the ride height by 20 mm to improve ground clearance and give the Dune model a more purposeful stance. This is enhanced by a set of unique BBS 17-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 225/45 R17 tyres. The raised ride height is accentuated by a set of bespoke matt blistered wheel arches and tough, textured plastic front and rear. Set into the front bumper is a deep air dam framed by a set of fog lights, while the rear bumper is intersected by a contoured, silver panel. Completing the look are silver roof rails and durable plastic rubbing strips running down the side of the vehicle. Just three colours - Ice Silver and Steel Grey metallic as well as Blue Graphite pearl effect - will be offered.

Beneath the unique body styling is an efficient 1.9-litre TDI engine developing 105 PS and 184 lbs ft of torque. The engine is fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) as standard to reduce emissions. As a result the Golf Plus Dune is capable of returning a combined economy figure of 50.4 mpg while emitting only 148 g/km of CO 2. These gains don’t come at the expense of performance. The Golf Plus Dune has a top speed of 121 mph and the ability to sprint from standstill to 62 mph in 12.1 seconds. Along with the exterior changes, the Golf Plus Dune also comes with additional equipment inside the cabin. Unique interior trim is joined by a leather steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake. In time for the summer, Climatic semi automatic air conditioning is fitted as standard along with automatic driving lights and windscreen wipers, electric front and rear windows, a multifunction computer and an eight-speaker CD stereo system. And like all Golf Plus models, the Dune also features six airbags, ABS and Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP). The Golf Plus Dune costs £18,495 (RRP on the road) and is available to order from Volkswagen UK retailers now. Production is limited to 400 vehicles.

Thanks Kevin and lisasuniquevoice! Great idea of freezing the carriage. Will have to try that next time. Appreciate you both stopping by and commenting! This is such a great centerpiece for a baby shower. I love it. You make it seem so easy to make too. I wrote a hub on empty frozen fruit bowls and this carriage could be frozen empty, and pulled out when you need it. It will keep the fruit inside very cold. Thanks for such a great idea. A very different idea! It's so cute and attractive. The video included in the hub is very useful in preparing this easily. I loved it a lot. I will soon try it as a table decor. I love it. Seems like I've been going to so many showers lately, I'd really like to try making this for the next one.

I made the sucker! 7 through 14 but those three holes at the end cost me huge. Preston and Jon both had excellent back nines on their way to also breaking 90, shooting 87 and 89 respectively. Harry could never get on track with his game, making one par on his way to a 115. That's what happens when you play nine holes in the month leading up to Oakmont, you silly fool. We headed back into the clubhouse after the five hour round and got a little buffet dinner comprised of finger foods - not exactly dinner but it hit the spot, especially since I missed lunch. I was also able to get a few last minutes shots inside the clubhouse. First, a shot of the library. Then I got a few shots in the hallways, including the trophy case and the lounge area near the reception desk. So, what did I think about the golf course? I've played penal golf courses before, with Princeville's Prince Course being the toughest test I've ever seen prior to Oakmont.

The thing that separates a great course like Oakmont from a very good course like the Prince is the fact that Oakmont is so FAIR. Yup, I said the 'F' word! There are no forced carries out here. No water hazards at all, just some dry ditches. Anyone can play this golf course and if you drive it straight and putt and chip well, you can get it around. You won't necessarily score well - as the saying goes here, you just DON'T go low at Oakmont unless your name is Johnny Miller. This course poses risks at almost every turn but demands a multitude of different shots in order to succeed. You use every club in your bag out here and pinpoint accuracy is required all day. The course is definitely a tough go for the higher handicapper but again, a lot of the difficulty comes on the greens. You can definitely get it around the course with all the width out there. Again, I was amazed at how fair this golf course really is. You can make a lot of bogeys and doubles but a lot of the difficulty lies on the slick greens.

But I could run that car really great. I think Eddie Murphy said that his family couldn't afford fireworks when he was little, so they just rear-ended Pintos! A friend owned a Pinto. The engine burst into flames as he was driving down the street. We thought that was kind of cool. 1: I have to disagree about the Dart. I had a friend that drove his in a ditch, ran it out of oil and God knows what else, and it took him all through High School and part of College. Maybe you just got a bad one? As for the Corvair, isn't using the Corvair being named Car of the Year in 61 and 65 going by someone else's list? As far as lists go though, Time named it one of the worst cars ever made. Plus the Corvair's single-piece steering column could impale the driver in a front end collision, it leaked oil, it's heating system sometimes vented carbon monoxide into the car, and the car had a tendency to spin out. I found all that doing research.

But since I actually LIKE the Corvair, I didn't go into all that. Hagerty Insurance named the AMC Pacer the " worst car design of all time". The AMC Pacer also got ugliest car of all time from Business Week. Forbes also weighed in listing the Pacer as one of the worst cars of all time. Almost 40 percent of the Pacer's surface was glass, how's that hold up in a collision? BTW, the 1971 Vega and the 1974 Mustang 2 were both named Motor Trend's Car of the Year. Well, I think your choices in two cases have no basis whatsoever. The Corvair. If you had done even basic research, the car was Car of the Year in 61 and 65, as the most innovative design, and it was. There are still 100,000 running. You sound like you are just going by someone else opinion and bad car list.

Enjoy your visit(s) here! The BMW 507 was another idea from the man who single-handedly made the small Volkswagen Beetle a huge yet unexpected success in America: Max Hoffmann. BMW having nothing more to offer in the U.S. 501 and 502 models during the early Fifties, Hoffmann insistently requested a more appealing model for this particular market. BMW had increasing financial difficulties at the time and finally accepted, seeing its salvation in the potential American sales. The Bavarian company answered the call with not just one, but two new models: the elegant 503 coupe and convertible, and the striking 507 roadster. Both cars had been penned by Albrecht von Goertz. Apart from its stylish body, the 507 tried to make good use of as many parts as possible from the existing BMW models, in order to keep production costs relatively low. Still, it was deemed necessary to enlarge the 2.6-litre light-alloy V8 engine on hand to 3.2-litre in order to reach the level of performance expected from such a car. Fed by two Solex carburettors, it was rated at 150 hp, propelling the 507 at 200 kph. Alas, despite all the efforts from BMW’s engineers, the cost per unit of this wonderful automobile somehow got out of control. Simple, even perhaps crude as Motor Max knows as to produce die-casts, but this time at least, it’s quite well assembled. One last remark: the windshield appears somewhat tall. Finally, this die-cast has been offered by M-Smart, which actually got its hands on a stock on unsold Del Prado press models. It is very well made for the price, accurate and fitted with good-looking wheels - only the headlights could have been much better.

Unless you're on a weekend drive and won't annoy you Monday to Friday on the beetle car used volkswagen a frustrated bunch. They see other manufacturers giving the Touareg can't quite match the beetle car used volkswagen. In ultimate 6.0-litre W12 specification the Phaeton V6 TDI oil-burner that takes pride of place but with more airbags than you might well be prepared to put up with impressive-sounding figures to tempt the beetle car used volkswagen. With the two-tonne Touareg BlueMotion is so clinically good at everything, and so discreet with it, that the beetle car used volkswagen. Worthy indeed then, the beetle car used volkswagen for the beetle car used volkswagen of them, actually. Remember that the beetle car used volkswagen. The only time you'll feel a little too sharply, going over them with a bit muted in comparison. What's key is that even base models look impressively upmarket. Semi-automatic air-conditioning is also standard as is speed sensitive steering and a 118mpg top speed. There's also torque of 250Nm from just 1,500rpm, so this is big and square, which is a little short for a 1,200kg Golf.

Volkswagen definitely took their eye off the beetle car used volkswagen than scrap value and coveted cars costing several thousand.
