What To Look Out For With An Audi Service

Pop.Up Next: Autonomous and modular - 웹
If you own a high-value car such as an Audi, it's worth ensuring that it is maintained properly to ensure optimum performance. A regular Audi service is a good way to ensure trouble-free motoring. Also, a fully stamped service book will help to maintain the value of your car. Audi garages and independent specialist garages provide a high standard of servicing. To ensure the best service, it is paramount to choose a reputable garage that uses genuine OE (Original Equipment) parts. This also guarantees that any warranty is protected. To have Audi specialist technicians is also important. They will have had a significant amount of training and will possess the technical knowledge and expertise to work on your car. Not only that, specialist Audi technicians will also be able to forecast any possible problems with your car because of the experience and knowledge they have. They will also be able to inform you of when you are likely to require a new cam belt or replacement tyres based on your car usage and mileage. This can help you plan your Audi service and maintenance costs in advance.

There is a range of Audi services available. You can choose to have an interim service or a full service if you drive many miles and drive frequently. You could also have a time and distance service, or a variable service. A time and distance service is a fixed interval service, so for example, at every 18 months or 10,000 miles, whatever comes first, you will require a service. A variable Audi service is when the sensors on the Audi engine and components will let you know that a service is necessary. This will appear as a warning light on the driver's information panel in the car. Check your Audi handbook for more details of what these lights mean. Some garages can book as service as you wait, whilst with others you would need to book your car in advance. Make sure that they only use genuine Audi parts, as these will also be guaranteed, some for up to two years. Some garages also offer value-added services such as collection and delivery of your vehicle, full guarantee of workmanship, a free valet, free MOT or a courtesy car while your car is being serviced. It pays to shop around and find the best deals to service your Audi. When you come to pay for your Audi service, this can be of some concern if it costs more than you are prepared for. However, some garages will offer a service payment plan, allowing you to pay fix monthly amounts, based on the amount of services you would like to include. This helps with budgeting for your Audi service costs and helps to spread the cost of servicing your car.

Mahindra & Mahindra, the leader in utility vehicles in India, has taken the initiative to introduce the path breaking FuelSmart System for the first time in India. The FuelSmart system is an automatic engine start stop system. It has been introduced in its Scorpio M2DI and Bolero SLX BS3 models. The start stop system automatically shuts down and restarts the automobiles engine. The engine begins effortlessly once a driver depresses a clutch prior to moving ahead. This in turn reduces the duration for which the engine is kept idling, thereby improving fuel economy. This start stop system comes into play when the automobile has to spend considerable amounts of time waiting at traffic signals or in traffic jams. This feature started in hybrid electric vehicles but now has also started appearing in vehicles without a hybrid powertrain like Scorpio and Bolero. Fuel economy can improve by 5 to 10 percent in non-hybrid vehicles with the start stop system. Off late the start stop system uses an enhanced-starter which is nothing more than a conventional starter, developed by Bosch, which can withstand the increased number of engine starts. The system is such that the alternator is not activated most of the time. Thus the electrical components in the vehicle run on Battery. The alternator is activated to recharge the battery while decelerating or braking (regenerative braking). Due to the use of regenerative braking, some have started calling this type of system a micro hybrid. Volkswagen Polo Formel E, Fiat Regata ES and BMW were some of the earliest vehicles to use this technology. Smart Fortwo is a micro hybrid sold in Europe. Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced Micro hybrid Technology with Scorpio and Bolero. Tata Motors is following suite with Micro Hybrid Nano and Ace. The Micro Hybrid Technology is based on the simple principle of not burning fuel when not required. The FuelSmart system with a Micro-Hybrid technology of Scorpio is new technology developed by Mahindra R&D team with help of the M/S Bosch.

2011 MallorcaLike many brands, Citroen knows the importance of SUVs and is moving to incorporate many more into its line-up, with each wearing its ‘Aircross’ tag to signify the practical, higher-riding body style. The latest is the C5 Aircross. Following the supermini-based C3 Aircross SUV, it enters a class already packed with talented contenders, many of which are either also new or have recently been updated to keep them fresh. Those cars show how important a small but strong turbo petrol engine is in this sector. So the updated Kia Sportage, which only comes with a naturally aspirated 1.6 petrol motor for comparable power, might face a tough challenge, even though it was tweaked last year to keep it up to date. Our third contender here, the Skoda Karoq, is already established in this market, and fresh from victory against the Nissan and Vauxhall, it’s moved through to this next round of competition against the all-new Citroen.

Which car will take the spoils this time? Following the success of its C3 Aircross compact SUV, Citroen has turned its attention to the even more lucrative mid-size market with the C5 Aircross. We’re testing the £25,325 PureTech 130 Flair version, which is bound to be a big seller. Unlike its smaller brother, the C5 Aircross is based on Citroen’s latest EMP2 platform, which is shared with sister brand Peugeot. It offers struts and a torsion beam to take care of suspension at the front and back. The chassis also features Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushion tech, which has been tuned to put the emphasis on comfort. It’s standard across the range and replaces a regular suspension bump stop with a secondary damper that slows body or wheel movement more softly when the damper gets close to the end of its stroke. This is part of the Advanced Comfort philosophy the firm has been developing for its latest cars. It also focuses on seat comfort, cabin refinement and a plush feel on the move. Elsewhere, the technology is familiar, with the brand’s 128bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine linked to a six-speed gearbox.

The design uses many familiar Citroen cues, too, with narrow headlights, funky Airbumps on the doors and lots of plastic cladding. The rounded square motif is repeated inside on the chunky surfaces. There is a contrast in quality and texture between some panels. The cabin isn’t as strong as the Skoda’s, and is more on par with the Sportage’s for finish. It does get plenty of equipment in Flair trim, though. A digital dash with an eight-inch sat-nav system is included, and smartphone connectivity is impressive. There’s also part-leather upholstery, cruise and climate control, parking sensors and a reversing camera. You can add keyless entry and a powered tailgate as part of a £790 pack, but the core kit list is generous enough that, as with the Kia and Skoda, you don’t really need any extras. Using downsized turbo engines like the Aircross’s has meant larger family SUVs have been able to turn back to petrol power. The 230Nm of torque doesn’t match the Skoda, but it easily has the naturally aspirated Kia covered, which meant plenty of flexibility on test. This makes it relatively relaxing, and the ride just about manages to match the engine’s trait.

Too Lazy. I Just Used Windex

Are you one of those gifted types that can freehand a long, level, straight line with one smooth effortless stroke of a paintbrush? Not me. Far from it. In fact, I need all the help I can get to keep things straight around here. So when it came to adorning each of our EVs with California HOV stickers, I had to resort to tricks that I learned through net wisdom and from a couple of friends that are graphic artists. Here's how the stickers arrive in the mail. One long strip. They also came with the some official paperwork to stuff in the glove box in case you are pulled over and need to prove that those stickers are assigned to your car. Installation instructions are also provided, but they only tell you where the big ones go and where the little ones go, sort of. No tips on how to stick them on straight.

First off, get a pair of scissors and cut off the backing around each sticker. But try to keep the cuts straight on the straight edges; you'll need those edges to line things up on the car. Next, figure out where in general you want to stick those puppies and clean the areas. Some folks wax the areas to make it easier to remove when the HOV privilege expires or is revoked; I didn't. Too lazy. I just used Windex. Now stick a couple of pieces of painter's tape on the back of the decals, rolled over itself so you can hang it on the car temporarily. I just used two pieces. If you are going around a curve, like on the sides of the rear bumper on a Fiat 500e, you might want to use more tape. Don't use garden variety masking tape, transparent tape, or duct tape. Use painter's tape. Other stuff is too sticky for me, and tends to leave adhesive residue on the car unless you wax the area first.

Even then, it's harder to work with. Okay, so after that, just slap the entire assembly on the car and move it around until you're happy with the way it looks. You can try lining it up with character lines, trim pieces, or some other feature on the body or bumper. The point is that you can try out multiple positions and angles before committing. After you've temporarily hung it on your car exactly where you want it, stick pieces of painter's tape along the straight edges of the sticker. The tape will serve as a guide when you're ready to permanently affix the sticker. For the rear sticker, I used two pieces of tape as a guide. The right edges of each piece were used to line up the right corners of the sticker. I didn't use a laser level to line it up. I just eyeballed it (doh!). I also didn't step back 20 feet or so to see what it looked like from a distance before proceeding. However, installing the guides did help reveal the misalignment and I ended up straightening it out a little before committing.

For the side stickers, I used three pieces of tape as a guide. Prior to installing the guide, I used a laser level against the top straight edge of the sticker to level it with the surface of our planet. I first tried out having the sticker lined up with the lower crease on the bumper, but I didn't like the way it looked. So I just took it off and tried again, but used the level. Then I walked across the street and studied it for a moment from various angles to make sure I really got it straight, then framed the sticker with the painter's tape. I think it took me about a half hour total to install all three stickers, including the time to trim the backing and take some pictures. For the Volt, I tried to line up the stickers with the lower valance all around.

It looks okay, but my first choice was to stick them on the valance itself, at least for the side and rear stickers. I opted against it in case I felt the urge to Plasti-dip the valance for a monochrome look. In retrospect, even though I won't be painting the valance after all, I'm glad I didn't install them down there because I've seen a few Volts with their stickers peeling off of the textured black plastic. They're all level with the ground, and the side stickers wrap over the start of a character line that sweeps across the bumper. I thought it looked great on his car, so I followed suit. Trim the backing to the shape of the decals and test fit them on the car by sticking them on temporarily with painter's tape. Try different positions. View your candidate placements from different angles and distances before committing. A laser level really helps if you want it level to the ground. When you find the perfect position, frame the sticker around its straight edges with painter's tape. Then affix the sticker permanently using the painter's tape as a guide.

TDi Performance

The VW and Audi TDi diesel vehicles are probably the most economical cars on the road, getting about the same or better economy than the new hybrids. They are the best way to go when looking to save money on fuel. The VW TDis especially are growing in popularity in the U.S.. There are some complaints though. Like not having the power needed to pass someone on the road. This has all changed in recent years. There are several upgrades that can be made to the TDis to improve power, and to actually improve fuel economy even more. I will touch on these subjects briefly. The first TDi Performance mod that comes to mind is an upgraded chip or tuning box. Both of these items, the VW performance chip and the VW tuning box change how the fuel is delivered to the engine. For a VW performance chip to be installed, the TDis computer must be removed and sent to someone who can solder in the new chip with the new program. A VW tuning box will simply be connected under the hood where it can intercept the signals going to the engines ecu and alter them.

Most people will say that the upgraded chip will do the most for you, but the tuning box is the more common upgrade just because it is so much easier to work with. Also the tuning boxes are well liked because they can be removed and have no trace of ever being there so that warranty work can be done. The TDi Performance upgrade that comes to most peoples minds first is the cold air intake. An upgraded cold air intake in a VW TDi will add approximately and additional 5-10% increase in power and economy. Cold air intakes are sealed away from the hot engine air. Cold air takes up less space, so in turn more air is able to occupy the same area because it is cold and not hot. That is a pretty good jump and the cost for the upgraded air intake is minimal. One of the drawbacks is that upgraded air intakes are not available for all of the TDi models or year groups.

There are also performance drop-in filters for most of the TDis that will increase airflow slightly, and add a little power and economy. The next thing that comes to peoples minds is an upgraded exhaust system for their TDi. The only problem with that is the lack of mods for the TDi exhaust. There are currently no major companies that manufacture full TDi exhaust systems to my knowledge. A mufflerectomy where the muffler and resonator are removed and straight pipes are put in their place to reduce restrictions on exhaust air flow. This doesnt really give a measurable power or economy increase, but does give a throatier sound that some are looking for and the reduced back pressure will add to engine longevity. People will replace the muffler with a new muffler that is able to vacuum the exhaust out the tail pipe. Another common upgrade for the VW TDi is upgraded injector nozzles. Upgraded injectors or injector nozzles and an improved spray pattern than the stock injectors and when required are able to flow more fuel. They greatly add to performance and add a little economy too. They are also an inexpensive upgrade, and high on the bang for your buck scale. There are also other things such as propane injection or water methanol injection that will add power and economy but I wont go into detail as they are not common mods for the TDis. Also with any modifications, a set of gauges should be added to monitor the VW TDis engine parameters and to make sure that things are functioning properly.

Volkswagen’s family of I.D. Knowing this, artist Antonio Paglia has imagined a new I.D. The concept takes the form of a low-slung Shooting Brake with seating for four people and an electric motor at each wheel. Unlike the existing I.D. Volkswagen, the ID-Tech doesn’t feature any design similarities with other electric VW models and insteads adopts its own unique look, perhaps somewhat inspired by the Golf GTE Sport hybrid concept from a couple years ago. Nonetheless, it still looks the goods and the front fascia includes a pair of slim headlights, an attractive faux grille, and a set of bulging wheel arches. Not restricted by regulations, Paglia has been able to design a steeply raked windscreen and slim side windows to create an especially sporty look and one more than fitting of working well alongside the existing fleet of I.D. As impressive as the exterior is, we think the interior is even more eye-catching. The dashboard consists of a large digital instrument cluster, a widescreen infotainment screen, and a third display to presumably control the air conditioning, heating, and other vehicle functions. Four carbon fiber bucket streets then provide occupants with a comfortable and supportive ride.
