Piech Mark Zero Concept Leaked Ahead Of Geneva Debut

Currently, the market is awash with all-electric start-up car brands, and this Swiss-built GT car could be the latest addition to the flood. Called the Piech Mark Zero, it’s an electric sports car built by a new company fronted by the son of Ferdinand Piech, the former head of Volkswagen. These leaked teaser images preview the car’s design ahead of its launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Full performance specifications for the Mark Zero are yet to be announced. The battery packs are mounted in the car’s transmission tunnel and on the rear axle, which Piech states will provide a driving experience closer to that of an internal combustion-engined car. The Swiss start-up also claims that the Mark Zero’s architecture will be modular, allowing its battery packs and hardware to be replaced as technology advances. Potentially, Piech’s modular architecture could offer buyers a range of powertrains, including internal combustion engines, various hybrid systems and even a fuel-cell driven option. In addition, the Swiss firm plans to make its platform available to other manufacturers. For the next few years, Piech has planned a range of cars, consisting of a two-seat sports car, a four-seat saloon and a sporty SUV, built on the Mark Zero’s underpinnings. Release dates for these upcoming Piech models are yet to be announced.

These are also available in the aggressively sporting red colour, Maserati blue to lend an air of elegance, luminous silver grey. This allowed Maserati’s suspension engineers to deliver extreme precision combined with the steering sensitivity needed for turning into corners at high speeds.

Its upright style makes it easy to get in and out, rear passengers get plenty of leg room once they're in. Four-door sedans and two-door coupes returned, but not the sloped-roof two-door hatchback coupes. Wheelbase added 4.7 inches (to 107.1 inches), while overall length stretched an extra 5.1 inches (to 184.8). Styling was evolutionary, so tailored bodylines and a glassy superstructure continued. The main change was at the front, where exposed headlights replaced hidden flip-up lamps. The automatic now featured electronic shift control and two shift modes: Normal and Sport. Sport improved acceleration by delaying upshifts to higher rpm than in Normal mode. Despite the larger engines and weight gains of over 200 pounds, Accord's thrifty EPA-rated fuel economy was little changed.

Both included unique alloy wheels, leather upholstery, and premium Bose audio system, but the sedan was the only '93 Accord equipped with a passenger-side airbag. Consumers had shown a marked preference for airbags over motorized shoulder belts, and twin inflatable restraints would soon be universal.

Accord had taken some knocks for not having an available V6 engine like most other midsize cars. The CD changer in the trunk, a dealer installed option, may not eject; CD magazines will be exchanged for redesigned units. Cars with high mileage may begin to shift more harshly; this may be corrected by adding a bottle of Lubeguard conditioner to the automatic transmission fluid. The parking brake may not fully release because a rivet on the brake rod is too tight. A squealing noise from under the hood is likely to be caused by a worn alternator bearing; it may have failed because the belt tension was too great. Steering noise (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993): If there is a squeak or squeal in the steering, especially when making a slow, tight turn, look for a label on the power steering reservoir that says PSF-V additive was added. If the noise is still present after additive was installed, the right-side end seal on the steering rack will have to be replaced.

The nitrogen oxides that are still produced despite these modifications reach the new SCR catalytic converter where they are removed, as already described. As engineers began to develop the V6 TDI, their first goal was to further optimize all aspects of combustion. The result is that a world’s first is celebrating its entry into high-volume production in the Clean Diesel: the combustion chamber sensor. Integrated in the glow pencil, the sensor continually measures pressure conditions in the cylinder and reports the data to engine management. This enables perfect control of injection and combustion for each cylinder; it is even possible to compensate for fluctuating fuel qualities. Ideal combustion helps to reduce raw emissions. It also optimizes quiet running and noise behavior. The common rail injection system that has undergone intensive advanced development serves the same purposes. With a new high pressure pump design (CP 4.2), the system builds up a pressure of 2,000 bar - this is new too. The piezo injectors also appear in a significantly modified form. Their smaller eight-hole nozzles inject fuel into the combustion chambers in miniscule volumes. This new design and its higher pressure make injection even more precise and dynamic - detailed work that in sum has produced one of the most fuel efficient and cleanest six-cylinder diesel engines in the world.
