2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta hardly lacks for assets. The compact sedan is roomy, comfortable, well-made, and a good value. But the 2019 Jetta doesn鈥檛 bond with its driver in the way we鈥檝e come to expect from German-branded small cars, including the Jetta鈥檚 VW Golf cousin. The exception is the sporty Jetta GLI. The 2019 Jetta comes in S, SE, R-Design, SEL, and SEL Premium versions, plus the GLI S, GLI 35th Anniversary Edition, and GLI Autobahn. The Jetta is based on the Golf hatchback VW builds in Mexico, but there are key differences between the Jetta sedan and the Golf when it comes to power, technology, and suspension design. Yes, the 2019 Jetta is a good four-door sedan. It falls shy of great. The 2019 Jetta has most of the goods, but not all of the things that have make VWs excellent choices in the past. It's the iPhone SE of the lineup.

This year鈥檚 Jetta shares little but its name with the 2018 model. Beneath its crisp, conservative sheet metal lies a sophisticated platform with an asterisk. While the Golf and other VW vehicles that ride on the same architecture use a modern multi-link rear suspension, the Jetta uses a simple torsion-beam instead. Again, the exception is the GLI, which has a multi-link independent rear suspension. Likewise, the Jetta鈥檚 1.4-liter turbo-4, rated at a modest 147 horsepower and paired to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic, is the least-powerful engine you鈥檒l find in the VW lineup. A turbocharged Jetta GLI joins the lineup in the 2019 model year with a 228-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4 and either the manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is also available with adjustable adaptive dampers. The GLI offers a much more spirited driving experience. Its turbo-4 pulls harder, its suspension is firmer and more responsive, and it offers much of the feel and fun of the Golf GTI. The standard Jetta makes a fine long-distance cruiser boosted by its 40-mpg highway rating, bar some obtrusive wind and road noise. Its seats are firm, if light on lumbar support, and well-bolstered, and there鈥檚 enough room in the back seat for two adults or three in a pinch. The Jetta鈥檚 14.1 cubic-foot trunk is about par for a mid-size sedan, but it鈥檚 well shy of the similarly sized Golf. The Jetta discards the notion that a German-branded car need be stingy with equipment. Even the base Jetta S is well-outfitted with alloy wheels, a 6.5-inch touchscreen for infotainment that鈥檚 Apple- and Android-compatible, and alloy wheels. 450 on the Jetta S and is standard on the rest of the lineup. 27,800, a reasonable sum considering its features such as a trick, configurable TFT display in place of conventional gauges, heated and cooled leather seats, Beats by Dr. Dre speakers, a panoramic moonroof, and navigation. 30,000, which isn't that much of a premium for its additional performance.

A clutch is made much like a brake pad with pads bonded to a steel plate. You can't resurface a clutch. They may have meant that you'll have to have your flywheel resurfaced, but a clutch, no. And you need a new pressure plate. If you skimp on any of these 3, clutch, pressure plate, resurface flywheel, it will be slipping again in a week. Replace the clutch and pressure plate. Louis tells the normal thing to do. The other two do not have a clue about auto maintenance. I ask them where do they go to buy clutches for antique vehicles? So short sighted. Do they understand where hamburgers come from? The truth is you can't afford to resurface your clutch disc and you can't find anyone to do it either. Best bet for VW folks is a nice NEW Sachs Unit. If you had a 1930's Auburn and were dialed into that culture of owners they would put you onto someone who could rebuild them. Just been issued with VW golf 1.6 4/5 door and very basic instructions. Can anyone help a thick blonde out who's used to driving fords or vauxhalls?

I have a 2001 Jetta, and it's in the door right in front of the little compartment. Did you try looking there? It's right next to the trunk release button. I'm sure it's probably in around the same spot on a Golf. What year is it? The '97 Passat we had didn't have a fuel lid handle, it simply unlocked with the doors, same goes for my 2010 Golf. As long as the doors are unlocked, try lightly pressing in on the rearward side of the cap and see if it pops open. 2000 passat a good first car for a 17 year old boy? And buy something that YOU can afford with money that YOU earned, not money your parents have given you. And don't forget gas, insurance and license. You need to have a job with income to pay those recurring expenses. It's not just THE CAR. I'm 17, and I don't have a car because I never worked or earned any money.

My parents told me that I need to. 900 for a tune up is not unheard of. The engines are installed in such a way that they must be "dropped" in order for the mechanic to access everything. I own a 2000 Passat. I had to replace my entire drivers side blinker housing about 6 months ago. 135. I shop around, and get many quotes before having work done on my car, but it is still always expensive. I had my water pump replaced at the same time I had my last tune up. VW Passat its holding excellent on the road, its car with very good stability. 71.95 for the part, and it took maybe two hours to do. 2000 jettas actually. i am 18 about to be 19. my first one was a 2000 jetta 2.0 4cyl automatic when i was 16, it was a slow car, but was a gas saver got really good gas mileage. 2000 vw jetta vr6, the 6 cylinder, 5 speed. 20-22 city. and around 28-30 highway. 10 years old will have its problems.

2019 Volkswagen Passat (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Passat (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2018 Volkswagen Passat is available with two engines, but neither turns it into a thrilling sports sedan. We鈥檝e awarded the lineup a single point above average for a comfortable ride. Most Passats leave the automaker鈥檚 Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly plant with a turbo-4 engine. In stop-and-go Los Angeles traffic, the 2.0-liter excelled at the low-speed stuff. Its broad torque comes on convincingly鈥攂ut not alarmingly鈥攋ust after takeoff. Press the 2.0-liter turbo-4 into action, and the Passat's prolific 3,300-pound mass pronounces itself. Despite a bigger displacement and slight horsepower bump (4 hp from last year) the 2.0-liter lost steam accelerating onto interstates. Asking for a passing maneuver required some planning, too; the 6-speed felt up to the task, but the busy turbo still felt breathless from 40 mph to 60 mph. The new engine is mildly more efficient than the outgoing 1.8-liter turbo, and importantly, more refined. Seeking more speed requires more cylinders.

Included with the Passat GT and optional on the SEL is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine rated at 280 hp and 258 lb-ft鈥攆igures VW achieved using premium fuel, not the acceptable regular unleaded. A 6-speed automatic again sends power to the front wheels only. The V-6 is a strong performer that delivers confident passing power, albeit with more underhood grumbling than we鈥檇 like to see at these prices. A turbodiesel was once offered on the Passat, but it鈥檚 gone after VW admitted to cheating on federal emissions tests. Don鈥檛 look for another Passat TDI any time soon鈥攊f ever. Most Passats share the same suspension tuning, which is relatively taut and delivers good body control without feeling too harsh over rough pavement. Larger alloy wheels like the 19-inch units on the R-Design amplify road imperfections, so shop carefully if you live where the tarmac resembles the moon鈥檚 craters. Though the Passat鈥檚 suspension is more for comfortable touring than corner carving, its light, direct steering is a delight to hustle along on a curvy road. The Passat GT is a homegrown effort, developed by the engineers at the Chattanooga, Tennessee factory where it鈥檚 built.

Called a 鈥済uerilla effort鈥?by a Volkswagen spokesman, the GT鈥檚 main claims to fame鈥攅xterior styling touches aside鈥攁re its enhanced exhaust system, a 0.6-inch drop in the ride height, and firmer springs and dampers. None of those matter all that much, though. The 3.6-liter V-6鈥檚 output is unchanged by the freer-flowing exhaust. The available power is easy to access, just like in the Passat V6 SEL Premium. Instead, it鈥檚 the impact on how the V-6 sounds that鈥檚 the Passat GT鈥檚 biggest success, serving as a pleasant reminder of how nice free-revving, naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines are. The noise is sonorous, especially in the middle of the rev range, with a more prominent note from outside the car, too. Like the V-6-powered SEL, the Passat GT relies on a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic to send power to the front wheels. Standard wheel-mounted paddle shifters make driving in manual mode a more engaging way to exploit the DSG鈥檚 quick-shifting abilities. But those paddles, identical to the setup on the Passat R-Line, are small and don鈥檛 feel very premium. The Passat GT鈥檚 mild suspension modifications could have gone further. Not only is the 0.6-inch drop in ride height difficult to spot unless the GT is parked next to a standard model, but firmer springs and dampers have a negligible overall impact on how the car behaves. This is still a well-balanced car with a tight handling character and good body manners. The firmer suspension sacrifices some ride quality over rougher roads鈥攁 fact that鈥檚 no doubt enhanced by its standard 19-inch 鈥淭ornado鈥?wheels鈥攂ut ultimately, we aren鈥檛 talking about a dramatic change in ride comfort. The Passat GT still errs on the side of smoothness, doing a good job of balancing sporty desires with comfort demands.

When Lamborghini launches a new car you can bet your house on it looking so outrageous that your eyes will bulge from their sockets. And this latest model is no different. It's called the Aventador Superveloce Jota (SVJ) and it's the most powerful naturally aspirated V12 road car the Italian super-brand has ever produced. Oh, and it looks like Kermit on steroids. It's so quick that it has set a new lap record for a production model around the Nurburgring - unofficial confirmation that it's the fastest thing you can buy with four wheels and number plates. In traditional Lamborghini style, there's no subtlety to the unveiling of its latest tarmac gobbling supercar, showcasing the new Aventador SVJ in a fetching luminous green. But the assault on your eyes is nothing compared to what this car will do to the rest of your senses. With 759bhp, the 6.5-litre engine is the most potent of all road-legal V12s the brand has ever unleashed onto the streets.

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

Among crossover SUVs, the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out for its spacious interior鈥攕o long as every seat isn鈥檛 filled in seven-seat versions. The VW Tiguan aces real-world utility with its excellent outward vision, comfortable interior, available active safety gear, and good infotainment system. It鈥檚 less thrifty than some rivals and its third row鈥攚ell, the dog will like it. Overall, we rate the 2019 VW Tiguan at 6.0 out of 10. Notably, that figure doesn鈥檛 account for a safety score since the Tiguan hasn鈥檛 been fully crash tested. Available in S, SE, and SEL trim levels, the Tiguan comes standard with front-wheel drive and offers all-wheel drive as an option. A 2.0-liter turbo-4 rated at 184 horsepower is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Tiguan rides softly, with good composure thanks in part to its 109.8-inch wheelbase. Its steering is quick and light, and it has a confident feel on a curvy road. At 24 mpg combined with all-wheel drive, the Tiguan lags competitors such as the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester, which come closer to 30 mpg combined. Those rivals don鈥檛 offer three rows of seats, although we don鈥檛 consider the third row that鈥檚 standard on front-drive Tiguans and optional with all-wheel drive to be a major asset. The Tiguan鈥檚 front seats are firm and supportive, while row two boasts excellent ingress and egress and a bench that slides forward for more leg room or cargo space. That third row, though. It robs valuable cargo room. Most Tiguans have standard active safety hardware such as automatic emergency braking, and the IIHS has given it a Top Safety Pick award, but the NHTSA hasn't rated the compact crossover yet. 29,000 with all-wheel drive, the Tiguan SE is a lot of crossover for the money.

Q: Do you need to buy anything with the steering wheel to make sure it installs properly? A: All steering wheels require a car specific hub adapter for installation. You cannot install the steering wheel without the hub adapter. Depending on the steering wheel, most use either 6-bolt hubs or 5-bolt hubs. Q: How do you install a steering wheel? A: A steering wheel is installation is a bolt-on procedure once the hub is installed. When your hub is installed there are screws in the center of the steering wheel that attach to the face of the hub. Screw down all the hardware and you will be good to go. Q: Why buy a steering wheel? A: Nothing adds a more dramatic new look to your interior than a custom steering wheel. It gives your car that race feel that really makes driving enjoyable. Q: Can I install an aftermarket steering wheel if my vehicle has an airbag?

The new Mk8 model will doubtless feature a number of timeless GTI design features - it鈥檒l certainly look more muscular appearance than the standard car thanks to red trim pieces, sporty wheels, a new spoiler and chunky twin exhaust tips. There aren鈥檛 any plans to bring back the GTI Cabriolet model, however, so you鈥檒l have to be satisfied with the more practical five-door version. Its interior will be handsomely appointed with plenty of kit - a large infotainment system with sat nav, numerous driver assist features and lots of exclusive GTI trim pieces including chequered cloth seats should all come fitted as standard. The upcoming GTI should produce more power than the current top spec 261hp Clubsport model. Range-topping special editions could pump out as much as 325hp - that鈥檚 more than the current Golf R. This power-hike will come thanks to the addition of a small electric motor and a powerful 48V battery. As standard, the GTI will come with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox - unfortunately, it鈥檚 not known whether the next-generation car will be available with a manual gearbox. It鈥檚 safe to say that the new GTI鈥檚 engine will not only be more powerful but should also more fuel-efficient than the current model, too. Lightweight materials and an updated chassis will aid both performance and fuel economy.

Although Volkswagen is still using the old body for Golf Mk8 test cars, the hatchback will definitely get the company鈥檚 latest design language. We鈥檝e seen it on a range of newly-launched models, including the Arteon sedan that replaced the CC. The Golf will also benefit from a larger front grille, bigger headlamps, and a more aggressive bumper. The GTI package will replace the horizontal slats in the grille with a honeycomb mesh and will add the traditional red stripe on each side of the logo. Our designer also added C-shaped LED lights on the big, black-painted air vents on each side of the lower grille and a heavily sculpted engine hood. Onto the sides, the upcoming Golf shouldn鈥檛 change much, so look for the same traditional hatchback grille. However, it will sport revised mirror caps (likely with a carbon-fiber option), a more muscular beltline, and beefier side skirts. A new set of wheels will round off the look.

The rear section should look very familiar, although Volkswagen will probably redesign the taillights to include new LED lights. More changes will be visible in the bumper, which will gain a new diffuser-like element, hopefully significantly more aggressive than the mundane unit seen on the current GTI. For the first time ever, there will be "Golf" lettering beneath the "VW" badge, similar to the new Arteon. Design aside, the new Golf GTI will be a bit longer and wider than its predecessor. Not only it will give the hatchback a more planted stance, but it will also increase stability and provide a bit more legroom and elbow room inside the cabin. The interior of the upcoming Golf Mk8 remains a mystery with no spy shots to run by, but the latest Polo and Touareg models provide some valuable hints. Although the Golf won鈥檛 be identical to any of the cars mentioned above, it will have similar cues, starting with a much cleaner dashboard with rectangular vents at the corners and in the center stack.

2019 Volkswagen Golf (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Golf (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

Narrowing down the 鈥渞ight鈥?2019 Volkswagen Golf may take some time. At every step of the way, the 2019 Golf is generally feature-laden and backed by a terrific warranty, however. Generally, VW鈥檚 trim level structure includes S, SE, and SEL grades but features vary by bodystyle. For instance, a Golf SE hatchback and a Golf SE Alltrack aren鈥檛 directly comparable. One thing all Golfs have in common is above-average infotainment software. Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility supplement a system that works well enough on its own. The standard 6.5-inch touchscreen is clear and responsive. The optional 8.0-inch display hides behind a glass panel that looks great but attracts fingerprints and has capacitive buttons that are less responsive. On all, a single USB port and Bluetooth are standard. Built-in navigation is available on some trims, too. Nearly every Golf is covered by an impressive 6-year, 72,000-mile warranty that can be transferred to subsequent owners.

The warranty doesn鈥檛 apply to the limited-market e-Golf, however. 22,700 and include power features, air conditioning, alloy wheels, cloth seats, blind-spot monitors, a 6.5-inch touchscreen for infotainment with Bluetooth, and automatic emergency braking. 1,300 buys adaptive cruise control, 17-inch wheels, and active lane control. 2,500 on the SportWagen S. No all-wheel-drive SportWagen SE is available. The all-wheel-drive Golf Alltrack is more popular with consumers than the SportWagen and is offered in three trims: S, SE, SEL. 27,800, the Alltrack S builds on the SportWagen S with synthetic leather seats and active safety tech. SE and SEL trims add larger screens, moonroofs, upgraded audio, and active lane control. Our recommendation is the Golf S SportWagen with all-wheel drive and active safety features. 26,000, the wagon balances value, four-seasons performance, and utility exceptionally well. VW has not detailed the 2019 e-Golf, but we鈥檒l update this space when we know more. 28,500 and includes plaid cloth upholstery, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and heated front seats. Golf GTI SE and Autobahn trims pile on more features such as a larger touchscreen, a power driver鈥檚 seat, leather upholstery, and an adjustable suspension. 42,400 with the dual-clutch transmission. That makes for a costly Golf, but at least it鈥檚 well-equipped with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a moonroof, a full suite of active safety tech, and premium audio.

November 1994. It was built on the Volkswagen Group B5 (PL45) platform, which it shared with the fourth generation Volkswagen Passat (B5, Typ 3B). It had a front-mounted longitudinal engine and front-wheel drive. Many variations of the A4 were also available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system. The A4 was initially introduced as a four-door saloon/sedan; the Avant (estate/wagon) arrived a year later. The Audi A4 was the first model in the Volkswagen Group to feature the new 1.8 litre 20v engine with five valves per cylinder, based on the unit Audi Sport had developed for their Supertouring race car. A turbocharged version produced 150 PS (110 kW; 148 bhp) and 210 newton metres (155 lb路ft) torque. This technology was added to the V6 family of engines in 1996, starting with the 2.8 litre V6 30v, which now produced 193 PS (142 kW; 190 bhp). In mid 1998, the 1.8 20vT engine available outside Europe had its power output raised to 170 PS (125 kW; 168 bhp). The previous KKK K03 turbocharger, although fundamentally unchanged, received revisions on the turbine side to prevent cracking due to heat. The 12-valve V6 was replaced by the 30-valve unit which had been available in Europe for two years. In 1999 Audi also debuted an even higher performance RennSport model, the RS4 Avant, like its predecessor RS2, available only in the Avant bodystyle.

Volkswagen Tiguan is an upcoming model of Volkswagen which is expected to launch in 2011. It will be a luxury SUV from VW which is based on Audi A5 platform and much luxurious in its segment. It will be the new entry into the ever growing small SUV segment for Company. It was first showcased at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, and was debuted as a 2008 model for Europe. It will give a strong competition to the other brands like Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour, Honda Santa Fe and Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio in India. Engine- It will come a with robust 2.0 litre turbo engine with 1984cc four-cylinder .It will have a capacity to churn maximum power of 200 hp @ 5100-6000 rpm and maximum torque of 280Nm @ 1700-5000 rpm. It is guessed to come with six speed manual transmission. Exterior- It has got handsome sporty look, it is a seven seater with superb exterior design which is common from VW family.

The head lamps and fog lamps looks quite pretty along with flourished shades. Neatly carved colors on the car give pleasure for watchers; it has a unique bumper which shows the hard work of Volkswagen team on designing. The ORVMs are in body color with 3D Front fog lamps (like cluster). The car looks funky from rear side with LED tail lights and rear defogger. The 17聰 alloy wheels with anti-theft wheel locks will ensure the security and adds the beauty for the car. Interior- It is a five-seater with four doors; the dashboard will look similar as VW Vento with some differences. Tiguans dashboard has two big shape pods with bright illumination at its instrument panel. The power steering has 4 spoke, and mounted controls. It has Multi-information TFT LCD screen is there for the comfort of the driver. The rear seats are heated. The steering wheel of the car is adjustable and comes with control buttons. It also comes with power windows, tinted glass, rear defogger, electric driver seat adjustments, remote fuel filler, remote boot, remote central locking and AC with climate control. Safety- It is expected to equipped with several safety features like ABS (Anti lock Braking System), traction control, anti-skid system, dual front and front side airbags, rear side airbags, and curtain side airbags in rear. Its three-point retractable seat belts are available for all seats. The belt force limiter is also available to reduce the impact of sudden braking to the chest. It has navigation system with rear view camera, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a sunroof, and a 30GB hard disk which we cant see in other similar cars. The expected price tag of this car will come around 20lakh in Indian market. It will give 12-16 kmpl (City-highway) as per as fuel efficiency is concerned.

2019 Volkswagen Atlas (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Atlas (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a three-row crossover that couldn't come soon enough for the automaker. Available in S, SE, and SEL trim levels, the Atlas gets everything right on paper, but its execution leaves a little to be desired. In our testing, it's a 6.5 out of 10, which puts it a hair above average. We've knocked it down for its lackluster fuel economy not offset by particularly impressive performance and for an interior that feels low-rent compared to virtually all rivals. On the flip side, it's exceptionally roomy and versatile inside, and its conservative looks should hold up well. Unlike VW's previous crossover efforts, the Tiguan and the Touareg, the new Atlas is a decidedly American-oriented model, so much so that it is built in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Now, VW has been down this road before with its Passat, which was also designed for Americans and is built alongside the Atlas. While the Passat hasn't exactly been a hit, the Atlas shoots for the fast-growing crossover SUV segment instead of the slowing sedan market.

The Atlas is offered in five trim levels and with a choice of 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or 3.6-liter V-6 engines mated to either front- or all-wheel drive, but only the V-6 can be ordered with winter weather-friendly AWD. At just shy of 200 inches from head to toe, it's on the large side compared to its rivals, which includes the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, and Nissan Pathfinder. Stylistically, the Atlas shares more in common with the five-seat and more Euro-oriented (and pricier) Touareg, although its flared fenders and slightly more angular overall look have a lot in common with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Full LED headlights are standard on even the base model, but LED taillights are on the options list. Inside, the Atlas' dashboard could easily have been lifted from the Passat. VW's Car-Net infotainment system takes center stage on the dashboard and it's flanked by a pair of large air vents. The megabuck SEL Premium offers a full LCD instrument cluster, which displaces with conventional gauges in favor of a multi-configurable screen. All three rows of the Atlas offer better-than-average interior room.

The second row slides fore and aft as in most competitors, but the Atlas joins only the Pathfinder in allowing a child seat to remain in the second row when it is slid forward for access to the rearmost seats. And that third row is reasonably roomy, providing what may be the most capacious accommodations in its class. 650 extra), meaning it can seat either seven or six passengers depending on configuration. S models feature cloth seats and a 6.5-inch touchscreen, but they do have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SE shoots for mainstream and adds leatherette upholstery and an 8.0-inch upgraded infotainment system. 50,000. Additionally, an R-Line styling package is available on SE and SEL models to give them a slightly sportier look (but the package doesn't actually improve performance aside from including its own 20-inch alloy wheels). What's under the hood isn't much of a surprise if you're familiar with the VW lineup. Base models utilize a familiar 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine rated here at 238 horsepower.

It's the same powertrain we've seen in numerous other VW products, ranging from the Golf GTI all the way to the large Audi Q7 SUV (with which the Atlas shares very little). That engine, however, is only mated to front-wheel drive, meaning it's not likely to be a big seller in the places where snowfall is a regular thing. That's an odd decision, if you ask us, as it significantly limits the Atlas' appeal鈥攅specially as all-wheel-drive market share continues to grow. Optional is a 280 hp, 3.6-liter V-6, which comes standard with front-drive and offers all-wheel drive as an option. All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic regardless of drive wheels. Fuel economy won't be a selling point; the V-6 all-wheel drive model is rated at 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined, while the front-wheel drive comes in at 18/25/20 mpg. The 4-cylinder rates 22/26/24 mpg. We've only driven the V-6; it's refined and muscular, although it doesn't match the thrust of the optional twin-turbo V-6 in Ford's Explorer Sport. The Atlas rides softly, even on its optional 20-inch alloy wheels, but it remains composed when pushed hard into corners. Ultimately, the Atlas drives well, among the best in its segment, deftly hiding its size and 4,500 pound girth. What's missing, and what should have set the Atlas apart from its rivals, is a turbodiesel option. After VW admitted to cheating in the EPA's emissions testing, the automaker pulled the plug on diesels here. While there's a remote chance of a compliant diesel showing up in the automaker's lineup in the future, we aren't holding our breath. Crash-test scores are good, but not great. Advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning come on the SE with the Technology group and the SEL, but aren't optional on the SE.

A car manufacturer using a video game as a promotional tool is nothing new; Toyota generated a lot of buzz with its laughably bad (but free!) Yaris on Xbox Live Arcade two years ago. However, Volkswagen is taking the adver-gaming concept a huge step forward, by releasing a free iPhone game in lieu of a traditional advertising campaign. Don't expect to see any television commercials for the 2010 GTI -- for now, Volkswagen is committed to promoting its new vehicle exclusively through its App Store game. Real Racing GTI should be available for download right now, and thankfully, it's no Yaris. Instead of crafting an entirely original game, Volkswagen collaborated with developer Firemint to release a free "lite" version of its popular Real Racing game that exclusively features the new GTI car. Tim Ellis, Volkswagen's VP of Marketing, said in an advance press release. While it's true a free game will give individuals lengthy exposure to the brand, we still have our doubts about its reach. You can check out a video of the original Real Racing after the break.

2019 Volkswagen Eos (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Eos (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

A step up from the budget-minded four-seat Chrysler 200 convertible, but remote as it can be from something more evocative like a Mustang, Camaro or MINI Cooper convertible, the Volkswagen Eos glides into another model year with few changes. The Eos is a cruiser at heart, without the overt performance edge of the Miata or Audi TT, even, but it's more flamboyant with power and handling than you might suspect, especially if your first encounter's a top-up one. Let's be blunt. The Eos looks bland when the roof is raised. There's just one drivetrain offered with the Eos, and it teams VW's excellent 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder with either a six-speed manual or the preferred dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission. With either gearbox, the front-drive Eos feels strong and responsive, thanks mostly to the turbo's well-timed boost, which comes on low and stays very steady throughout a wide part of the powerband. The Eos' relaxed look belies handling that's better than the profile may suggest: the suspension's firm enough to hang tough in tricky corners, and the Eos feels planted in higher-speed sweepers. It's remarkably secure in feel for a front-drive convertible, though dynamically, it's no sports car.

The brakes are strong and reassuring, too, which plays along well with its eager feel. The Eos is quite comfortable, if you're a larger adult and if you're sitting in the front seats. The driving position is a bit more laid-back than in the Golf, and the seats feel a bit more plush and better bolstered than in that basic hatchback. 2. Rear-seat legroom is minimal, and with the roof up, the Eos can feel confining back there. Trunk space isn't so generous either, though when the roof is raised, a movable trunk liner can be flipped up to carve out a couple more cubic feet of room. Like the top on the Volvo C70 convertible, the Eos' roof tucks away quickly, using eight motors to fold its three panels into place in under 25 seconds. The convertible roof also has a setting that opens the front section only like a sunroof. Safety scores from the IIHS rank the Eos as "good" in front and side impacts. The roof mechanism is backed up by pop-up roll bars that deploy if a rollover is detected. Parking sensors are an option, but the Eos doesn't come with a rearview camera. The Eos comes with the usual power features; climate control; the power-folding hardtop; and an AM/FM/CD player. High-end options include a sport package; a Dynaudio surround system; satellite radio; Bluetooth; and hard-drive-based navigation with music storage.

The worst looking cars? The worst mpg cars? No, just the worst cars period! Here are ten of the worst cars that Detroit ever rolled out. Some of these are the worst from a mechanical standpoint, some from a visual stand point and some just got a lot of bad press. A few are cars that always make everyone's top ten worst, but I think really aren't that bad. The list isn't biased, there are Chevrolet, Fords, Chrysler and AMCs here. It's a compact car made by Cadillac for cryin out loud! Caddys are not compact cars. They are one of the symbols of American excess! Standard engine was a four cylinder (though you could get a V-6) and it looked like a brick with wheels. Time magazine and The Daily Telegraph both called it one of the ugliest vehicles of all time. If it weren't so ( I hate to keep using this word over and over) ugly, it might not have been so bad.

The poor Aztek did get a little love though when Walter White was seen driving one on "Breaking Bad". Maybe I'm mad at the Dodge Aspen because it replaced a car I considered almost indestructible, the Dodge Dart. The only saving grace for the Aspen was the Aspen R/T. Powered by a 360 V8 engine, it could turn the quarter in 17.4 seconds at 86.1 mph. True that isn't earth-shattering, but for the 70s, it wasn't bad and allowed it to run with Camaros, Mustangs and a few Vettes. It really wasn't that bad, but it just looked wrong, like maybe they rushed it into production too early. It started out in the front looking kinda swoopy (think Superbird) but turned into your standard box shape by the time it hit the back. Okay I had one of these tin-cans with wheels. Things would just come off it (window cranks, shift knobs etc). You didn't measure the quarter mile time with a stopwatch, you used a calender.

I once floored it on an open stretch of highway and finally hit 65 mph. On the plus side though, I did take mine through the Blue Ridge Parkway in an ice storm and lived. The experience brought me much closer to God. 1982 Chevrolet Chevette commercial. Are you kidding me? I had two Camaros. A 1969 and a 1982 and I loved them both. The Camaro I am talking about here is the third generation Camaro that you could get a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine in. A 4 banger in a Camaro? In the 1982 Sport Coupe, the 2.5 liter was standard! 82 Camaro was slightly modified. It had a L-82 Corvette engine and even though it was an automatic, it would bark the back tires when it took second. Yes I had one of these too. All the horror stories you have heard about them are true.

2019 Volkswagen Beetle (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Beetle (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

What was once the top-selling car of all time is now far from it, as the 2019 Volkswagen Beetle lives on for one more year before it is lost to the annals of history (at least for now). Still, we give this fitting tribute to the original peoples鈥?car 5.6 out of 10 overall for its quality, warranty, and attitude. For 2019, the Dune and Coast special edition trims are no more, so all that鈥檚 left are the S, SE, and SE with Premium Package trims to keep the nameplate alive, as well as the somewhat ominous Final Edition. The base S model also gets standard blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts, but automatic emergency braking is still not available. All trim levels are still available as a coupe or convertible. The Beetle Final Edition SE and SEL trims include a sunroof and body-color side mirrors as well as heated washer nozzles, while the SEL features LED daytime running lights and taillights.

There are also two unique colors, Safari Uni beige and Stonewashed Blue, the latter of which was most recently seen on the 2016 Denim Edition. As for powertrains, there鈥檚 still only one, so those looking for a hotter Bug are best suited turning to the used car market. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 174 horsepower and is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission, with no option for a manual. The Beetle is fun to drive, with quick responses and a suspension that's on the firm side. It's not a sharp corner carver, but it's better-composed than its retro looks suggest. Inside, the Beetle's retro theme carries over with a dashboard painted to match the exterior and no shortage of vintage kitsch. It's not especially spacious and even the priciest Beetle on the lot has too many econo-car trim bits inside. Thankfully, a great warranty remains, with 6 years or 72,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, whichever comes first. The base Beetle S is now better-equipped with its additional safety features, not to mention synthetic leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility as standard, 17-inch wheels, and keyless ignition.

It鈥檚 been a bittersweet kind of week for Golf fans as although VW has pushed back the reveal of the eighth generation, it鈥檚 still due this year. That鈥檚 right, no more waiting a couple of years into the Golf鈥檚 cycle for the hotter and hottest hatches. The regular versions of Europe鈥檚 best-selling car are scheduled to go on sale on the old continent in the first part of 2019, with the GTI due in the third quarter of the year - at least in Australia. The news about the front-wheel-drive hot hatch鈥檚 Aussie launch was shared by a VW spokesperson in an interview with Wheels magazine. The very same person went on to mention the R is set 鈥渢o follow later in the year鈥?for the Australian market. It鈥檚 unclear if other markets, specifically the European ones, will be getting the amped-up hatchbacks sooner than those living Down Under. That being said, it would make sense for VW to have the GTI and R on sale in Germany first and shortly thereafter in other major Euro countries before bringing it to the world鈥檚 sixth largest country by land area. As for the Grand Tourer Injection, VW has ultimately decided against embracing electrification, so the eighth Golf GTI won鈥檛 be a hybrid as originally conceived. It will soldier on with the 2.0 TSI engine, but in an upgraded guise with additional horsepower and torque over the Mk7.

There are various impressive cross-over vehicles developed every year, however some tend to be highly distinguished from other models along with stunning styles, capabilities and affordable prices. The levels of competition throughout auto market is substantial, therefore if the vehicle is highly well-liked it must possess a specific feature that competitors can鈥檛 provide it to consumers. The main aspects when choosing the automobile is the performance, price tag, endurance and the design. Essentially the most profitable and most popular model by Subaru is the 2012 Subaru Outback. Outback is the wagon as well as the SUV and the automobile is referred to as just about the most practical, safe and valuable vehicles over the world. The exterior of the vehicle isn't wonderful and very beautiful comparing to Kia Sportage, 2012 Ford Explorer or to Volkswagen Tiguan, but the vehicle is so practical that it has got an amazing popularity by the world. 2012 Ford Explorer is actually shown in two classes of automobiles, Reasonably priced middle-size SUVs and also inexpensive cross-over SUVs. A new modern face of Vw, impressive engine and upscale interior would be the key-points of being the SUV so popular.

Together with the premium quality features, 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan is termed one of the most affordable compact sport utility vehicles in the world. The most important advantage Volkswagen has stands out as the comfort in addition to beautiful and practical interior. In recent times, among the most affordable sport utility vehicles is actually represented the Kia Sportage. The vehicle has received a lot of accolades by famous auto companies, authorities as well as consumers. We are able to very easily state that possibly the most significant reason for being Kia Sportage so highly recognized can be its impressive design, the list superior quality standard features and also the low price for base model. Mitsubishi Outlander is regarded as a fun-to-drive vehicle. It is a midsize SUV that is definitely extremely priced reasonably. An additional advantage of Mitsubishi Outlander is the quite practical size of vehicle, it is not gigantic as it appears, however it's bigger comparing to other vehicles. So the reasonable price, fashionable sportier design and a fun-to-drive features make the car well-liked by plenty of people. 2019 Volkswagen Eos (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

2019 Volkswagen Eos (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

Landing somewhere between the budget rent-a-car cruiser convertibles, like the Chrysler 200 and the Volkswagen New Beetle, and drop-top sports cars like the Mazda Miata or Audi TT, is the 2011 Volkswagen Eos. While in appearance it's strictly a cruiser, a much more flamboyant personality lurks within鈥攁nd, in our opinion, the Eos is one of the best-designed (and oft-omitted by shoppers) convertibles on the market. The Eos is so often omitted because it's bland. All 2011 Volkswagen Eos convertibles come with the same engine: a 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. With either the six-speed manual or dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission, the front-wheel-drive Eos has strong acceleration and good responsiveness, thanks to its flexible engine, which makes plenty of torque across the rev-range. While the Eos might look like a relaxed cruiser-convertible, it handles better than the image suggests鈥攆irm enough to power through tricky corners, planted in higher-speed sweepers, and remarkably secure-feeling for a front-driver. Dynamically it's no sports car, but with quick steering, strong, reassuring brakes, and the responsive DSG transmission, it feels very eager. 2; there's very little legroom for those in back, and adults, if they can wedge in, will only want to be back there for a gentle cruise out to ice cream and back. When compared hardtop convertible layouts鈥攆rom rivals like the Volvo X70 and Chrysler Sebring鈥攊t doesn't get any better than this. In less than 25 seconds, a total of eight electric motors work in conjunction to unlatch the roof from the windshield header and flip and fold it under the metal trunk lid. The convertible roof also has a setting that opens the front section only like a sunroof. And with the top stowed away, cargo capacity remains a decent (for the class) 6.6 cubic feet, which is enough for an overhead-bin-sized suitcase.

But Brits can take some comfort knowing that there鈥檚 a high chance these features will appear on future special editions that are so beloved of die-hard MX-5 fans. The MX-5鈥檚 arsenal of safety equipment has been updated no matter which country you live in, though. A front and rear Advanced Smart City Brake Support has been added, as has traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert. 2.0-litre with a manual or automatic gearbox. MX-5 prices now top out at a rather alarming 拢29,195. That extra power comes from a wide range of improvements including a larger intake manifold, increased injection pressure and a new exhaust system that not only expels air more quickly but also gives a sportier exhaust note. Stop-start debuts too and Mazda has also carried over a few of the 2.0-litre鈥檚 improvements to the 1.5 resulting in an extra 1bhp and 2Nm of torque. Climb into the new MX-5 and the more adjustable steering column is immediately obvious as it gives a more comfortable seating position whether you鈥檙e small or tall. Fire up the engine and initially there鈥檚 very little difference between the old and new 2.0-litre, but step things up a gear and the new motor鈥檚 qualities start to shine. Aside from the fabulous new engine Mazda has left the MX-5 untouched - and it鈥檚 all the better for it. There鈥檚 still the deliciously crisp and nicely weighted steering, perfectly positioned pedals, snappy six-speed manual gearbox and gorgeously nimble chassis. Bilstein dampers, strut brace and extra luxuries like leather seats, BOSE stereo system and all the latest 2019 safety kit. Given all that, the price jump isn鈥檛 too much to stomach.

My 1st sports/performance car was a 1986 VW GTI. I drove this car for 14 years and 190K miles. NEVER let me down. It had a 1.8 engine that was pure uncomplicated joy. Sold above to get a 2000 VR6 GTI: waay more power! It too proved to be bullet-proof reliable. Never once cost me a dime to repair ANYTHING. Six durable years later, sold it to buy a 2006 VW GTI. Its proven to be the best car of all. RPMs screaming like a chainsaw and heaving the little hatchback to 60 MPH in 6.8 seconds flat! Four years and 46K joyous and ultra-reliable miles later, I believe it to be as solid as the other VWs Ive had the pleasure to own. Myth of expensive to maintain BUSTED! NO problems with turbo or anything else. Jetta and GTI basically similar mechanicaly, just different body styles. Boths these dubs will proove realible, but on a power to weight ratio, the golfs gonna be the quicker and prob the more visually appealing one to consider. Cars that claim as low milege as this usually maintain dealer stamps, thus having milege recorded on system.

Saying that, the mk4 TDI is good alternative too. The PD 150bhp is a sweet engine and a remapp will give a good 40-50 bhp taking you close or just over the 200bhp mark. Either way, would def say buy a VW, as they do hold value, cheap to run, wont give you the headache of a crappy french car and will prove more reliable then your index finger given a few years. Find a TDI turbo diesel, Great Cars! Congrats on your decision to buy a Volkswagen. You've taken your first step into an amazing and beautiful new world. Both cars are excellent and fun to drive. However there are a few differences between the two. Obviously the Jetta is a sedan with four-doors while the GTI is a hatchback with two-doors. While both have the same 1.8 turbo charged engine, there is a major hp difference between the two years. In 2002, Volkswagen reprogrammed the computer chips in the 1.8t's to give them 30 more hp. So the heavier Jetta only has 150hp to the lighter GTI's 180hp. That being said, I'm sure the GTI has been driven a lot harder than the Jetta, therefore increasing the probability of having more mechanical issues. Make sure you have a mechanic you trust take a look at both of them to help guide your decision. As far as maintenance goes, having owned and driven several Volkswagens myself, I've never had one break down on me. The horror stories you hear about people's Volkswagens breaking down in greatly exaggerated. Personally I would go for the GTI. I own one myself and have a blast driving it. While the Jetta is a great car also, I don't have the need for a 4 door sedan. Plus in your case, that 30 extra hp makes a big difference. Hope that helps you out some and enjoy!

2019 Volkswagen Passat (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2019 VW Passat has let itself go. It鈥檚 surrounded in the VW showroom by crossover SUVs with room for the whole family and a rugged image. The 2019 Passat has its virtues, but a pared lineup this year suggests that its maker has given up, at least until a redesigned model arrives, possibly as soon as next year. We rate the Passat at 6.0 out of 10 points. It鈥檚 roomy, has a good ride, and a lot of standard gear, but it shows its age in its subpar crash-test scores and its limited lineup. For 2019, the Passat line shrinks to just two trims: Wolfsburg and the SE R-Line, both powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-4 rated at 174 hp that sends power to the front wheels. Last year鈥檚 V-6 engine and sporty GT trim level are gone. The Passat鈥檚 turbo-4 gives it good manners. It鈥檚 smooth and responsive, if hardly thrilling. The same could be said about its handling, which is safe but short of entertaining. The Passat rides best on its standard 17-inch alloy wheels, but the optional 18s don鈥檛 firm things up too much. It鈥檚 inside where the Passat earns its keep. Its front seats are firm and supportive and its rear seat has LeBron levels of legroom. Outward vision is among the mid-size sedan segment鈥檚 best. Its interior is an exercise in Teutonic restraint, with little flair but a clean, cohesive look. Good infotainment systems with big, crisp displays and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility up its tech game. The Passat comes standard with a slew of active safety features, but its crash-test scores don鈥檛 impress. Both the IIHS and the NHTSA have mixed things to say about its crashworthiness.

When the performance of diesel-powered vehicles is made an issue, diesel engines would always be a paramount consideration. Diesel cars and trucks deliver great fuel economy. They are 20 to 30 per cent better than comparable vehicles with gasoline engines. And while today's diesels may not be impeccably-clean, they are most certainly a far cry from the noisy and smelly pollution hogs that they used to be. Turbo diesel engines, for one, are made up of sophisticated parts that are engineered to blend horsepower and torque gains for the vehicle. According to auto experts, fuel savings on a turbo diesel is so impressive that owners make up the extra cost of the engine in just a few years. Tony Fouladpour, a spokesman for Volkswagen of America. In connection with Ford, its turbo diesel engines have established supremacy in performance. Any driver who likes to zip away from a stop sign would love the automaker's diesel engine programmers' pep.

Diesel programmers contribute appreciably to make vehicles great at towing. This is the reason why "real truckers" choose diesel-powered Ford trucks. Diesel vehicles handle heavy loads a lot better than comparable gasoline vehicles. Larger, heavy-duty pickup trucks from Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge and Toyota are available with diesel engines to boost overall performance. Some aficionados are hesitant to use diesel because of its annoying noise. However, according to recent studies modern diesel engines are a lot quieter than diesels 20 years ago. Robert Larsen, director of the Center for Transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratories. Another bother about diesel engines is fueling up. Finding a neighborhood service station that sells diesel fuel may be difficult to some drivers. According to Diesel Technology Forum, only 30 per cent of neighborhood retail service stations sell diesel fuel. Hence, in purchasing diesel, it would be reasonable to consider diesel fuel availability in a particular area. Only few automakers offer diesel engine in their lineup. In fact, in the United States, there are only 3.6 per cent of diesel-powered passenger cars. The list includes the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, Passat, Beetle, Mercedes E-320 sedan, Volkswagen Touareg and Chrysler Jeep Liberty. However, the biggest downside of diesel vehicles has to do with emissions. They are dirtier than gasoline cars and a whole lot filthier than hybrids. Larry Webster, technical editor at Car and Driver. Diesel cars emit more particulates like carbon (soot) and more oxides of nitrogen (NOx), which contribute to local smog.

2 months ago I picked up my CPO 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI so have had some wheel time to get a feel for her (named her Heidi). Fuel Economy: Being a TDI I figure this would be the most imperative talking point. The revised figures after the fix are 29/37 and it is easy to see these numbers. Fuelly average is 25.1 MPG. Considering I was seeing 12-13 MPG average tanks (per trip computer) in my E350 4Matic and saw as low as a 9.8 MPG tank in my MB C300 running E85 I am pleased with the double in fuel economy. My work commute sucks - its 3-4 miles depending on route and can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic, there are days I could probably walk home faster. 4 years, hopping in my 2012 Sportwagen it feels like hopping into an old friend.

Are the Cheapest Cars Also the Cheapest to Drive? 18,000鈥?and the 鈥?0 Most Fuel Efficient Cars鈥? Needless to say none of these car titles overlapped, since almost all of the most fuel efficient cars were of the hybrid variety, and most of the economical cars were of the smaller size. 18,000 and the hybrid was listed as one of the most fuel efficient. Some of the same brand names are seen repeatedly, but apparently the most fuel efficient cars are definitely not the most economically sold cars on the lot. I cannot necessarily be surprised by that fact. So, I looked up some more articles regarding some important facts that I thought I should know before looking for a car myself. Some articles have been written on the least expensive cars to own, considering all of these factors in one when you purchase your next vehicle. Some key points to consider are the average monthly insurance rates, miles-per-gallon of fuel usage, cost of tires, oil changes and other regular maintenance and how often they will be needed, and more.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The new Jetta Sportwagen is the sleekest edition of the Volkswagen station wagon yet. In profile, it's more like an Audi鈥昦nd VW's interior styling that bowed on the 2006 Jetta has worn well with time. The Sportwagen offers either a 2.5-liter inline-five with a five-speed manual or automatic, or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and either a six-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic automatic. The diesel engine TDI will arrive at the end of the summer with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic, which eliminates the clutch pedal but allows manual shifting. In 2015, Volkswagen admitted diesel engines in this model illegally cheated federal tests and polluted beyond allowable limits. As part of unprecedented settlements with federal and state governments, Volkswagen agreed to buyback from owners diesel-equipped models of this vehicle. Handling is typically Germanic, with firm steering and not too much body roll. The Jetta's brakes feel well balanced, too. It's not a large vehicle, but with the second-row seats folded forward, the Jetta Sportwagen boasts a big cargo hold, albeit without clever cargo organizers or anything that shows an influence from small sport-utility vehicles. A huge panoramic sunroof is an option on the 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen, as are Sirius Satellite Radio and a navigation system. 26,000, which neatly overlaps the small crossovers from Saturn, Ford, and Subaru鈥攂ut the Jetta Sportwagen isn't offered with all-wheel drive like those vehicles.

When it comes to alternative-fuel cars, gas-electric hybrid technology has ruled the U.S. Toyota Prius leading the way. While technology is continually advancing and improving, the smart buy right now for a new 2009 model is the Volkswagen Jetta TDI and this should continue into the 2010 models. Better yet, if you must purchase a car this year, consider purchasing a good, used, late model hybrid, diesel, or fuel efficient gasoline combustion vehicle.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2017 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact car in a cutthroat segment that carves costs鈥攏ot canyon corners. It's VW's best-selling car and is sedan-only these days鈥攁nything with a hatch is called a Golf now. The Jetta competes with heavy hitters such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, and Chevy Cruze, but also the Mazda 3 and Hyundai Elantra. Yeah, it's a dense segment. It earns a 6.5 out of 10 on our overall scale thanks to good safety and fuel economy. After seven years on the market, the Jetta's plain take on a three-box compact still looks a little old-fashioned to us, and a recent light refresh didn't help. It's nondescript, and exactly what we picture when we think of some car with some doors and some people. Inside, the same approach keeps us from getting jazzed about the interior, but the conservative approach has its perks: the Jetta has good outward visibility.

The Jetta Hybrid is gone this year and the troubled turbodiesel is getting a deserved timeout, but what's left is promising. A base 1.4-liter turbo-4 is available in S and SE trims and makes 150 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a 6-speed automatic in most trims; a 5-speed manual is available in the base model. It shuffles up to 60 mph from a stop in just over seven seconds, but it's plenty for around-town commutes and returns decent fuel economy. In SEL trims, the mid-range 1.8-liter turbo-4 that makes 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque is available. It's not any quicker, rather its just a little more confident and sweeter sounding. It's mated to a 6-speed automatic only. A 2.0-liter turbo-4 is available in the hot-rod GLI and returns 210 hp and 207 lb-ft of twist. It comes with its own dual-clutch automatic or a 6-speed manual, both of which are fun to drive. The Jetta is one of the larger compact sedans on the market with room for four adults and plenty of cargo.

Its upright style makes it easy to get in and out, rear passengers get plenty of leg room once they're in. The trunk's 15.7 cubic feet of available space is capacious, but with a caveat: big elbow hinges swing into the cargo area and somewhat ruin the space. IIHS. All Jettas come with a rearview camera this year, and SE-equipped models add blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert. Top-of-the-line SEL models add a bigger engine and advanced safety tech such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. VW packs every Jetta with a 5.0-inch touchscreen radio, although higher trims get a bigger display. As base, many Jettas are equipped with good features such as Bluetooth connectivity and a multifunction steering wheel. Higher trims are budget Audis, we say, although there's no way to pick and choose a la carte items to get there: VW walls off many features in trim levels to keep dealers happy.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is a smaller sedan compared to the mid-size Passat, but they both follow the same template: more substance than style. The Jetta is roomy and sensible, with a relatively frugal base powertrain and low price. This year, the Jetta is available in S, Wolfsburg Edition, SE, SE Sport, SEL, and zippy GLI trim, but all build on a design that debuted for the 2011 model year. The Wolfsburg Edition, named after VW鈥檚 hometown in Germany, is a new addition to the lineup, as is the SE Sport with its 170-horsepower engine. All variants see some minor equipment shuffling and modestly revised styling. You鈥檒l have to squint to see the grille changes, but the new wheels on most trim levels stand out more. Also, VW has dropped the HID headlights that were included on last year鈥檚 Jetta SEL and the GLI loses its formerly standard manual transmission. Additionally, the Jetta lineup now includes a 6-year, 72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that doubles last year鈥檚 coverage. That鈥檚 a big selling point for us, especially since the warranty can be transferred to subsequent owners.

The Jettas you鈥檒l most commonly find on dealer lots use a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-4 rated at 150 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual is standard and a 6-speed automatic is on the options list. SE Sport and SEL trim levels use a larger and thirstier 1.8-liter turbo-4 that adds 20 hp but can only be paired with the automatic. Jetta GLIs have their own suspension settings, a sportier look inside and out, and a 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4. Despite their sporty positioning, Jetta GLIs are only available with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters. Most models have a demure demeanor with a softly sprung suspension, although the GLI鈥檚 beefed up underpinnings make it a hoot to push through a curvy canyon road. Though the Jetta鈥檚 conservative styling isn鈥檛 its biggest selling point, VW has managed to give its compact sedan rear-seat room more akin to a mid-size four-door. There鈥檚 plenty of stretch-out space for four adults and the 15.7 cubic foot cargo capacity is on the high side for this class. No Jetta feels particularly upscale inside and what feels like leather upholstery on SE and higher trim levels is actually hard-wearing leatherette鈥攁 fancy word for vinyl. Higher trim levels have a 6.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that鈥檚 easy to use. The Jetta has performed well in crash-testing, but VW reserves high-tech safety features like automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control for only the pricey SEL trim level. Jettas with the 1.4-liter engine and the automatic鈥攊n other words, the vast majority鈥攅arn up to 38 mpg on the highway. That鈥檚 a commendable figure given how strong this engine feels in everyday driving.

What do you get for that extra money? The aforementioned safety features are standard, as are imitation leather upholstery, heated front seats, a moonroof and dual-zone automatic climate control. The 2019 new Jetta S definitely drives above and beyond its base-model pedigree, though I do wish that it had more charging options. Still, I think it鈥檚 a viable option on the whole, which makes the answer to our titular question 鈥?a base model worth buying? 鈥?a yes. It drives better than a base car, and the equipment differences between the S and the SE don鈥檛 extend to the multimedia system, so there鈥檚 not as much impetus to upgrade. And once more, I can鈥檛 recommend enough to those who are considering a base Jetta to find one with the safety package attached. 450 for the added piece of mind and accident prevention is a bargain. Editor鈥檚 note: This article was updated July 19, 2018, to reflect that all Jetta models come standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, regardless of screen size. The Jetta GLI (highest tier) also can be ordered with a standard transmission. I'm getting older now so my next car will probably be an automatic . I didn't know that. Edit: It still is not out in the US, and the GLI is considered it's own model separate from the Jetta. You can still get a standard trans with the Jetta, but only the lowest tier. The Jetta GLI (highest tier) also can be ordered with a standard transmission. I didn't know that. It still isn't available. Plus, the GLI is it's own model, like the GTI. I have a bad left knee, but it still doesn't stop me owning manual. I own 5 cars, and 3 of the 5 are manual. Besides, the VW clutch is super soft, at least the 1.4T is. The GLI will probably have a hard pedal. My other cars that are manuals have hard clutch pedals which can give my bad knee a work out, but the Jetta feels like I am pushing air. The GLI will probably not be like that though since it has a lot higher torque.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

Volkswagen offers the Jetta with a choice of four powerplants and three transmissions, with a hybrid sedan coming soon to the model range. Let's make it simple for now: TDI or GLI. On the least expensive Jetta sedan, you'll find a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, with either a six-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. After hundreds of miles spent in the mainstream Jetta with its 2.5-liter, 170-hp five-cylinder, we've found it to be a better choice in every way from the base car. It's quicker by far--0-60 mph happens in about 8.0 seconds--but the thrust is delivered with some grumpy engine noises that are typical of five-cylinder engines. The flat power delivery works fairly well with the six-speed automatic, but fuel economy is below par for a class that includes 40-mpg superstars like the Chevy Cruze Eco and Ford Focus SFE. The former fuel efficiency champ in the Jetta lineup was the clean-diesel TDI model, which has its own passionate and longstanding fan base.

The 140-hp 2.0-liter turbodiesel four puts out 236 lb-ft of torque, while almost matching the 2.5-liter gasoline five for quiet running and coming close to its straight-line performance. The TDI diesel knocks off a 0-to-60-mph time in 8.7 seconds, and drivers always enjoy the strong and steady surge of torque that delivers that acceleration. The TDI comes standard with a notchy but precise six-speed manual, but for drivers who don't want to shift, it offers a version of VW's dual-clutch automated manual transmission that knocks out shifts faster than some conventional automatics. It's perfectly suited to the narrow power band of the low-revving diesel, and while it lacks the paddle shifters of the GLI, it delivers excellent fuel economy: 34 mpg combined (30 mpg city, 42 mpg highway). Supplanting the TDI for the fuel-efficiency wreath is the new-for-2013 Jetta Hybrid. VW has given up on trying to sell diesels to hybrid buyers; its research shows that they are demographically different purchasers, and simply won't cross-shop one for the other.

So it has added a new and well-sorted hybrid model that it expects to make up about 5 percent of overall Jetta sales--and attract new buyers who wouldn't previously have consider a Jetta because no hybrid was offered. The 2013 Jetta Hybrid uses a 150-hp turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder, an engine that hasn't been offered in any VW sold here until now but is widely used in Europe. It鈥檚 paired to a 20-kilowatt (27-hp) electric motor, with a clutch on either end, and the company's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox automated manual transmission. Output of the combined gasoline-electric powertrain is 170 hp. Volkswagen projects a combined EPA rating of roughly 45 mpg, and our road tests indicate that real-world gas mileage could be close to that. For its smallest hybrid, and first volume hybrid entry, VW has done a good job is suppressing the annoying features of hybrid powertrains. The 114 lb-ft of torque delivered by the small electric motor is enough to accelerate the car away from a stop--with a light foot on the accelerator--up to speeds as high as 37 mph.

With these versions of the Jetta, Volkswagen's adopted a simpler rear-beam suspension that makes the car less expensive to build than one with independent links. It's a decision some VW fans rue, but few drivers notice unless they're pressing the limits of their mid-grade Jetta--which is to say, not very often. These Jettas remain composed, with ride quality that's still better than some independent-suspension compacts in the class, with more body roll than the smaller Jettas of the past but much of the same, recognizable VW road manners. This Jetta drops the old model's electric power steering for old-fashioned hydraulic actuation, and it feels more natural and responsive as a result. On the open road, the Jetta's tire slap sounds soothingly familiar to anyone who's driven a Golf or Passat, and there's next to none of the bounding and hopping you might feel in a Kia Forte, for example. Brake feel is strong, confident and deep鈥攖hough we鈥檙e curious to see how those drums feel after a few winding roads. VW throws a couple of curve balls into this equation.

The first is the Jetta GLI, the turbocharged Jetta with 200 horsepower emanating from the 2.0-liter four-cylinder. One of the best-known powerplants in the VW corporate world, the torquey turbo four comes on boost low in the rev range, and pushes out consistent, exciting power into the 6000-rpm range. The Jetta GLI gets those manners from a different rear suspension than other models. The swap-out turns the torsion-beam axle on other models to a true independent suspension. While they're changing out parts, VW also lowers the ride height, tightens the springs and shocks, and adds electric power steering and an electronically simulated front-differential lock dubbed XDS, which helps tighten the GLI's line in corners. The GLI wears standard 17-inch wheels and rear disc brakes, too, with 18-inch wheels as an option. The result: a sedan that's great at 7/10ths driving, with alert steering and a nicely damped ride. Another curve ball is the SportWagen, which still rides atop the last-generation Jetta architecture. More compact, with an independent rear suspension distinct from the one in the GLI, the SportWagen comes with either five-cylinder or TDI powertrains, as well as even better-tuned handling. We regularly recommend the Jetta SportWagen TDI over crossovers for its well-weighted electric power steering and for its excellent ride. Braking is superb, too, and given the choice, we'd opt for the dual-clutch transmission in the wagon just as in the TDI sedan. Lastly, there's the Jetta Hybrid, a gas-electric version of the sedan that's due shortly. We'll be driving it soon--and we'll update this page as soon as we've put some miles on one.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

Volkswagen introduces TDI clean-diesel technology in both sedan and SportWagen models for the 2009 model year. The 2.0-liter TDI engine produces 140 horsepower, delivers 30 mpg in the city and 41 on the highway, and meets emissions standards in all 50 states. 1,300 federal income tax credit. In 2015, Volkswagen admitted diesel engines in this model illegally cheated federal tests and polluted beyond allowable limits. As part of unprecedented settlements with federal and state governments, Volkswagen agreed to buyback from owners diesel-equipped models of this vehicle. With a range of five-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder engines, a sport version, and wagon and diesel versions, the Jetta offers a sportier alternative to the compact sedans from Honda, Toyota, GM, and Ford. However, some feel the new Jetta looks too much like a large Toyota Corolla and not enough like its own crisply European ancestors. The current Jetta saw a restyle in 2006, when it became significantly roomier but adopted a design that critics think is too close to its Japanese competition. The interior, though, is precisely Volkswagen, with sophisticated looks and feel, switches that work smoothly, and grab handles that are well damped.

The base engine on 2009 Jettas is a 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder with 177 pound-feet of torque. It鈥檚 a flat performer with either the notchy five-speed manual or the six-speed automatic. Volkswagen鈥檚 marvelous 2.0-liter turbocharged four, with 200 hp, is standard on the Jetta GLI, and it can be ordered with the magnificent dual-clutch transmission, easily the most entertaining drivetrain on the new Jetta. Fuel economy is 22 mpg city, 29 highway with the five-cylinder and 21/29 mpg with the turbo four, though we've observed better real-world mileage with the turbo. The 2009 Volkswagen Jetta is a roomy sedan with a tall ceiling. It gives occupants more room to stretch their legs, bodies, and necks than the average compact, and it has a cavernous 16-cubic-foot trunk with fold-down rear seats for even more storage. All 2009 Volkswagens come standard with electronic stability control and anti-lock brakes. When necessary, the ESP intervenes to help realign the vehicle and keep it on the road. The Jetta gets four stars from NHTSA for front-impact protection and five stars for side impacts. All 2009 Volkswagen Jettas feature front side-impact airbags and full-length curtain/head airbags, and supplemental rear side bags are optional. The 2009 Jetta no longer offers automatic climate control or leather seats, but it's still very well equipped. A sunroof and a premium sound system are options.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta (VW) Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, And Photos

The 2016 Volkswagen Jetta is the best-selling VW in the States. It's a four-door sedan only these days, its five-door wagon having joined the Golf lineup. The Jetta still has fine handling and safety in its corner, but it's beginning to look quite dated. This year it gets a new, peppy, and fuel-efficient base engine, some infotainment upgrades, and some added active-safety features. The big stories are in the Jetta's powertrains. A new base 1.4-liter turbo four engine accounts for six different trims鈥攙ersions of the S, SE, and SEL levels鈥攚hile the 1.8T Sport and the Jetta Hybrid are their own trim levels. Finally, the Jetta GLI 2.0T has two of its own trim levels, SE and SEL. For 2016, the Jetta's diesel engine has been withdrawn from the market. VW flouted diesel emissions regulations, and still is working on a solution to fix the problem in new cars and in those purchased over the past decade.

Now in its sixth model year, the Mexican-built Jetta remains one of the most conservative designs in the segment. If you want style and flair in a compact sedan, you'd probably be better served going for a model like the Mazda 3, Ford Focus, or Hyundai Elantra. The Jetta's refresh last year made a few subtle changes to the front and rear fascia, but the square-cut sedan shape and the slab sides are starting to look dated. The inside remains refreshingly straightforward. It may lack the TDI diesels in the lineup for 2016, but the Jetta still offers three different turbocharged four-cylinder engines鈥攅ach with a choice of manual or automatic transmission鈥攑lus a hybrid model at the very top of the range. 20,000, the majority of this year's Jettas will be fitted with the new 150-hp 1.4T turbocharged 1.4-liter engine, which accounts for six trim levels. The 1.4T is responsive, produces torque starting at low engine speeds, and is light-years ahead of the archaic fours used in previous years of the same car. This range of models鈥攅ven without the TDI diesel versions鈥攍ets VW's compact sedan be many things to many different buyers, though it has a lot of ground to cover.

20,000 range. Though the price of features can add up quickly, the Jetta seems to accomplish all of that鈥攁nd its sales reflect that success. Space for people in the cabin and goods in the trunk remains one of the Jetta's strong points; it's so large inside that it barely squeezes into the compact class. The seats are comfortable in the usual firm German way. A great driving position, rear-seat space that wouldn't be out of place in a mid-size sedan, and obvious German heritage in the on-road behavior are its strong points. Despite some of its quirks, it remains one of the most livable and refined compact sedans鈥攁nd one that's always fun to drive. Well-tuned electric power steering is now standard across the range, and four-wheel independent suspension plus German roadholding simply puts the Jetta on a higher plane than more prosaic compact sedans. Over the last two years, VW has added an impressive suite of active-safety features to the Jetta range.

This year, a rearview camera is standard on all but the base Jetta S. Beyond that, in various combinations and trim levels, blind-spot monitors, forward-collision warnings, and automatic braking are all now available. Even the base Jetta S now has air conditioning, though it sticks with 15-inch steel wheels, silver plastic wheel covers, and cloth seats. 30,000鈥攎aking the potential savings in gasoline expenses dubious at best. One final note on the 2016 Jetta range: Last year, a new version of the SportWagen compact wagon gave up its Jetta name, and the all-new model becoming part of the Golf lineup. It had always been based on the Golf platform, and both the Golf and the SportWagen were entirely redesigned for 2015 even as the Jetta soldiers on. So it makes sense to call the wagon a Golf, as it has been in the rest of the world since it launched鈥攅ven if some Jetta owners are confused. Fuel economy for the Jetta ranges from the Hybrid's excellent 42 mpg city, 48 highway, 44 combined rating to the 1.4-liter's 28/40/33 mpg rating. The 2.0-liter four isn't as frugal: it's rated by the EPA at 23/33/27 mpg.
