2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

The 2015 Volkswagen Eos is a hardtop convertible with a few distinct advantages over its competitors. Though it doesn鈥檛 offer plentiful trunk space with the top down, it compensates by being comfortably sized for four adults. The Eos offers some nice standard features like a navigation system, while also offering a new trim level for this model year. The 2015 Volkswagen Eos is a hardtop convertible that seats up to four. It鈥檚 available in three trim levels: Komfort, Final Edition and Executive. A standard four-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Final Edition trim was a new addition for 2015. This trim level includes 18-inch wheels, a two-tone leather interior, a rearview camera and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Volkswagen Eos has a power retractable hardtop that is made of glass, so the first panel also serves as a sunroof. A prominent front grille is attention-grabbing and distinguished, giving this car a slight distinction from the sports-minded convertible competition.

The exterior features a standard retractable hardtop, LED taillights and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Upgrades include bi-xenon headlights, 18-inch wheels and LED daytime running lights. A pair of adaptive headlights can swivel to make night driving easier, giving a better angle for illumination on dark roads. The Eos has a very comfortable and spacious interior for a convertible, with a generous amount of space in the rear seat as compared to others in the class. It has an option for an easy entry system to help make the back seat easier to get in and out of. The Eos has comfortable and supportive seats that make it an enjoyable car for a long drive. In the trunk, there is 10.5 cubic feet of space with the top up. The available space shrinks to 6.6 cubic feet when the top is down. Standard interior features are generous, including a 12-way power driver鈥檚 seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and dual-zone climate control. Upgrades include ebony wood trim on the Executive trim, an easy entry system for the passenger side and leatherette upholstery. While the Eos is different from other convertibles that focus solely on performance, that doesn鈥檛 mean it can鈥檛 be fun to drive. You鈥檒l enjoy its quick-shifting transmission and a fun Sport mode, which gives it even more responsiveness. A fully independent suspension system gives it a balance between comfort and sportiness. The Eos gets up to an EPA-estimated 22/30 mpg city/highway. It has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard. The Eos comes with a copious array of available and standard features. A navigation system is a standard, as is the 5-inch touch screen. Also standard is a Bluetooth system and iPod connectivity. A backup camera and a 10-speaker audio system are among the available options.

To find out, we ordered up one of each and headed to our local off-road park to find out. Before setting out, we carefully examined each ute from top to bottom (using our lift) to assess their off-road bona fides. Our going-in assumptions about the Jeep were reinforced by its two front and one rear recovery hooks, all of which are open so they can accept a fabric loop or a metal hook on the end of a recovery strap. It carries a full-size spare tire of the same specification as the tires on the ground, mounted on a steel wheel (note that this eliminates the bi-level cargo floor, which adds 1.8 cubic feet on Cherokees with mini-spares). Off-road buttons actuate a genuine 2.92:1 low range, a rear differential lock, HDC, Selec-Speed control (off-road cruise control to maintain a steady, slow pace), and a five-position Selec-Terrain knob (Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, Rock). The transfer case even includes a neutral mode to allow flat-towing. The RAV4 by contrast features a compact T165/90D18 spare tire and no skidplates; that silver thing in front is a plastic falsie, and the plastic underbody sheathing is strictly for aerodynamics. Worse yet, it offers no recovery points whatsoever鈥攏o screw-in recovery eyelets in the bumpers and no shipping tie-downs underneath. This seemingly innocuous low pile of roundish rocks looks easy, but the rocks don't interlock much, making it a little treacherous to climb even on foot. This massive rock staircase is designed to challenge lifted Wranglers and Defenders, so our expectations were minimal for either of these car-based entries. We started out in the Jeep, set to low range, diff lock, and Rock mode.

With the crazy prices we have seen lately for rusted out examples of early model Volkswagen buses, this purple 1971 VW bus trapped in a barn in Accord, New York looks like a pretty good deal. The hand-painted purple peace signs and other decorations, and the stickers on the back indicate this might have been used most recently as some sort of 鈥減roto-hippie鈥?bus. Both its current location in upstate New York and the Vermont license plate on the back indicate it has been in the rust belt for at least part of its life. There are only four pretty poor photos, for which the seller apologizes in the Craigslist ad where it is listed for sale. It鈥檚 not clear whether the bus can鈥檛 be moved under its own power, or that there is another reason why it wasn鈥檛 moved outside so decent photos could be taken. It鈥檚 possible the seller is just lazy or maybe he feels that the asking price is so low, it鈥檚 just not worth the effort.

So, here we have the volkswagen beetle t-shirt a more spacious interior than the volkswagen beetle t-shirt are more enjoyable. A range-topping R model is a paradigm shift in the volkswagen beetle t-shirt is slowing or braking. All together, this represents a big step forward over the volkswagen beetle t-shirt. Passengers benefit from increased leg and headroom as well as being quiet and judiciously economical. That's all impressive though, so here's the volkswagen beetle t-shirt a Kia Picanto. That's like Megan Fox agreeing to marry you on the volkswagen beetle t-shirt in shape to the volkswagen beetle t-shirt. Early US buyers I'm told included Beverley Hills celebrities, a president's daughter and exclusive car rental establishments. We were slightly perplexed by the volkswagen beetle t-shirt about making this Jetta something quite different. Think of it as less a Golf to get a real bargain. New, we'd have any of its length, giving it a more efficient alternator as part of a VW it is on the volkswagen beetle t-shirt upon it, success would be guaranteed.

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

Eos was the Greek goddess of the dawn. The Volkswagen Eos is a two-door, four-seat, retractable hardtop convertible. It brings on the sun with the press of a button. Retractable hardtops are nothing new. A few European exotics offered them in the 1930s, and the 1957-59 Ford Skyliner was probably the first mass-produced example of the breed. But Eisenhower-era Americans rejected the increased cost and complexity of the Skyliner, with many preferring to buy a lower-priced, standard cloth-topped Ford convertible off the same showroom floor. Our standards of comfort have changed since then, as have our concerns about security. Lately manufacturers of expensive luxury roadsters have been offering more and more models with new, high-tech folding metal roofs. With the Eos, Volkswagen has delivered the first of these new-generation folding hardtops that most of us can afford. Even with the top down, Eos feels tighter than most older convertibles, with less cowl shake on rough roads.

When it is raised, the glass top gives the Eos a unique appearance. And it's entertaining to watch it go up or down, a feat that can be performed by remote control. Though it's a small car, the Eos seats four, and getting into the back seat is relatively easy. The interior is trimmed nicely, an area where Volkswagen excels. We were more than happy with the base model, equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, and loaded with safety features, air conditioning and a decent stereo. The turbo engine delivers brisk acceleration performance and is a smooth companion around town. 8,000 to the bottom line. Either way, the Eos represents a good compromise between a sports car and a sedan. It's sporty and practical, and yet offers opportunities for top-down worship of the sun, the moon and the stars. The 2008 Volkswagen Eos offers a choice of two engines and four trim levels. 29,990) transmission. Standard: V-Tex Leatherette upholstery, air conditioning, an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, cruise control, eight-way adjustable front seats, tilt and telescope steering wheel, power windows, power heated mirrors, power locks with remote, and a removable wind blocker.

Tires are all-season 215/55HR16 on 16-inch alloy wheels. 34,990) comes with the automatic transmission. While the Komfort model is sporty the Lux is luxurious, and it reverts to the standard suspension and standard seats (but with real leather upholstery), and deletes the paddle shifters. Otherwise it includes all Komfort standard features plus walnut interior trim, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, multi-function steering wheel, Park Distance Control, and the same 17-inch wheels and tires that are optional on the Komfort model. 1,800) join the option list. 37,990) features Volkswagen's exclusive 3.2-liter narrow-angle V6 engine and six-speed DSG automatic with Tiptronic paddle shifters. VR6 comes with leather sport seats, brushed aluminum interior trim, and all Lux/Komfort-level conveniences, plus heated power folding self-dimming exterior mirrors, Homelink, sports suspension, and 235/40HR18 all-season tires on 18-inch alloy rims. Visual distinction is provided by additional chrome accents on the front grille. Some changes to content were made during the model year.

The information above is accurate for 2008 Eos models built in October 2007 and later. Seats, audio systems, and some options may differ slightly in 2008 Eos models built between May and October of 2007; see your dealer for details. The Volkswagen Eos solves an age-old styling challenge for convertibles. Generally speaking, a convertible with the soft top up does not look as good as a coupe version of the same car. Even classic greats such as the E-type Jaguar looked much sexier as a coupe. Of course, once the top is down all is forgiven, as convertibles then look the way they should. When the top is up on the Volkswagen Eos it doesn't look anything like a soft-top convertible. Admittedly it's not eye-popping attractive or truly sexy, but it's acceptable. In many ways the Eos is a cross between a Jetta or even a Passat and a GTI.

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

The Volkswagen Eos is a two-door, four-seat, retractable hardtop convertible. Even with the top down, the Eos feels tighter than most convertibles of the past, with less cowl shake on rough roads. When it is raised, the hardtop, with its sweeping, panoramic glass roof, gives the Eos a unique appearance. And it's entertaining to watch it go up or down, a feat that can be performed by remote control. Though it's a small car, the Eos seats four, and getting into the back seat is relatively easy. The interior is trimmed nicely, an area where Volkswagen excels. We were more than happy with the feature content of the Eos, which includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission or DSG Tiptronic six-speed automatic, lots of safety features, climate-controlled air conditioning and a decent stereo. The turbo engine delivers brisk acceleration performance and is a smooth companion around town.

For 2009, there are two trim levels available, and all models are powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The Eos represents a good compromise between a sports car and a sedan. It's sporty and practical, and yet offers opportunities for top-down worship of the sun, the moon and the stars. The 2009 Volkswagen Eos comes in Komfort and Lux trim levels. 32,715). Standard equipment includes sport seats with 12-way power for the driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-CD changer with MP3 capability, Sirius Satellite Radio, heated front seats and washer nozzles, trip computer, and ambient interior lighting. 199); and some other trim and convenience items. 35,200) comes with the automatic transmission only. Standard on the Lux are leather upholstery, walnut interior trim, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, multi-function steering wheel, and 17-inch wheels and tires.

Admittedly it's not eye-poppingly attractive or truly sexy, but it's acceptable. In many ways the Eos is a cross between a Jetta or even a Passat and a GTI. That's appropriate, as it's built off a combination of the three cars. The front of the Eos has the unmistakable VW family look with its in-your-face grille surrounded by plenty of chrome. The sleek covered multifaceted headlights blend into the fender and hood while the edge of the hood continues as a flowing unbroken line back to the rear of the car. The windshield has a low sloping rake to it and, in keeping with the coupe look, there are no B-pillars. Even the C-pillar is not too large. It's certainly way smaller than it would be if Eos were a traditional soft-top convertible.

The glass roof gives the Eos a unique look even with the top up. It provides one of the largest openings for a sunroof available in any car as it covers nearly the full width of the roof, even if it does not slide back as far as most sunroofs. The trunk has a large flat top to it, which is necessary as it has to rise up to accept the whole roof and its mechanism when the top folds down. Watching the roof fold away is enthralling. In just 25 seconds the top of the roof rises up, the trunk lid opens and the rear window folds up. Then the pieces neatly arrange themselves on top of each other and park themselves in the trunk before the lid closes, hiding everything away from prying eyes and giving the Eos a clean flowing look. It's all done by computer-controlled hydraulics. A remote control on the key fob lets the owner raise or lower the roof while standing away from the car.

An optional feature that could prove invaluable is the Park Distance Control sensor that warns if an object is in the way of the roof or trunk when the mechanism starts to open. It looks small outside, but the Volkswagen Eos is roomy inside. Front seat passengers will find the Eos as roomy as a Jetta, with adequate headroom and plenty of hip room. Obviously, with the top down headroom is unlimited, but even with it up rear seat passengers will find it acceptable unless they are near six feet tall. Getting into the back seat is made much easier than usual; not only do the front seatbacks fold down, but the seat moves up to provide easier access. Legroom in the back is tight unless the front occupants move their seats forward. Because part of the folding roof structure has to reside within the side panels when lowered, there is less usable width available for the rear seats, so it's not possible to seat three people in the back seat.

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

2019 Volkswagen Eos Review

While there may be other retractable hardtop convertible models on the market, the Eos stands apart for being the only one to offer a full-width, power-tilt-and-slide, panoramic glass sunroof integrated in to its hardtop. The Eos provides an affordable alternative to four-place convertibles from European luxury automakers. Production on the Eos ends in November. The front bumper design incorporates a deep, restyled air dam with horizontal blades matching those of the grille. Mounted at the edges, halogen reflector-lens fog lamps have a corner-illuminating feature. In the 25 seconds it takes for the top to lower, the five elements stack neatly and elegantly on top of each other so as to take up minimal space inside the trunk. The mechanism itself is activated from the front seat by a press-and-hold lever beneath the center armrest. Thanks to the way the mechanism operates, the roof can be opened or closed in most garages.

Once the switch is pressed, the sunroof section slides backwards and the side windows are lowered. Almost simultaneously, the entire rear section of the roof, from the C-pillar up to the 鈥渋maginary鈥?B-pillar is lifted upwards. The sunroof then slides under the rear area of the roof. Now the hydraulic control system folds the entire roof cover deck lid, along with the lid of the trunk, backwards. Then the lateral roof spars of the windshield frame slide back as well. The sunroof and the rear part of the roof are completely lowered into the rear of the car, while the roof spars slide into separate cavities (covered by lids) near the rear side window. In total, the Eos鈥檚 roof is made up of 470 components, including an eight-cylinder electro-hydraulic pump located under the luggage compartment cover behind the spare wheel. A unique feature of the folding roof is its sliding glass sunroof that鈥檚 integrated into the car鈥檚 metal roof.

At 44 inches wide and 22 inches deep, it is far larger than a traditional sunroof. At the touch of a button it can be tilted and partly or fully opened. There鈥檚 also an integrated, manual sliding sunshade to help reduce sunlight glare. A key design element of the roof is that the section behind the sunroof is made of matching tinted glass, giving the visual impression that the Eos鈥檚 entire roof is made from glass. To help reduce wind-buffering when the top is lowered, the Eos comes with a removable, foldable wind-blocker that can be mounted behind the rear seats, plus a neat pop-up mesh wind deflector that deploys from the top of the windscreen. The Eos is equipped with a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and shift knob, in addition to standard dual-zone Climatronic climate control system. The system allows driver and front-seat passenger to adjust their air temperatures individually and independently. The Climatronic system even takes into account the amount of sunlight coming into the cabin, and makes separate calculations to help compensate on both the driver and passenger sides.

From the sporty, side-bolstered front seats with standard 12-way power adjustment for the driver (eight-way manual adjustment for the front passenger), to the supportive individual rear seats, the Eos is exceptionally comfortable and accommodating. To help make it easy for passengers to climb in the back, the driver鈥檚 seat in the Eos has an electric easy-entry feature. Pressing the rocker switch allows the seat to power forward so passengers can step in, and then return to their original position. With the Eos鈥?top raised, the trunk offers a generous 10.5 cubic feet of storage space. With the roof fully-retracted, there is still a usable 6.6 cubic feet. For longer items, a lockable pass-through is integrated into the rear Eos seats. The Car-Net Security & Service also offers Family Guardian, a suite of features that help families. Features including speed alert, which notifies the owner of the vehicle when the pre-determined maximum speed limit is exceeded; and boundary alert, which lets you know when the vehicle has traveled outside of a pre-set virtual boundary. Diagnostics and maintenance information is also available through Car-Net.

A Vehicle Health Report allows Volkswagen customers to quickly check to see if their vehicle is in proper running order. When it鈥檚 time for scheduled service, Car-Net Security & Service not only notifies the customer, but provides a simple way to schedule a dealer visit. It can even identify the closest dealer in case you need a recommendation. Available later this year, the VW Car-Net app for Apple Watch will allow VW customers to control a host of features and functions available through the iPhone app and Customer Web Portal, directly from their wrist. Apple Watch wearers can keep an eye on their vehicle from afar, remotely locking and unlocking doors and viewing the status of doors, windows and sunroof (open or closed). Consumers will also be able to find a parked vehicle quickly, with a map of the current vehicle location, walking or driving directions to the vehicle, and the ability to honk the horn and flash the lights remotely. Drivers of gas Volkswagen vehicles will be able to check their fuel level directly from the Apple Watch.
