2019 Volkswagen Touareg Review, Price, Redesign

After the recent redesign, it became clear that this crossover is turning to Chinese and European markets. The U.S. version has been dropped, in favor of the new Atlas. Still, the recent redesign has brought a bunch of novelties. For the second year of production, most people wouldn’t expect bigger changes from any model, especially not from a German car. Still, the 2020 Volkswagen Touareg is about to come with one big novelty for the European market - a new hybrid powertrain. Expect to see the new model next year. Just like its corporate twins, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, the new-generation Touareg also utilizes the company’s new MLB platform. The new platform brings numerous benefits, including significant weight savings and improved driving dynamics. Compared to the previous generation, the new one is slightly bigger and wider. There is also a completely new styling. From the first look, you can clearly notice VW’s current design language, characterized a pretty conventional approach.

Audi A4 - WikipediaConsidering the recent arrival, the 2020 Volkswagen Touareg will most like come with minor changes only, offering new color options and similar things. While the exterior design might seem too common, the interior is definitely very attractive. The new generation puts a lot on digitalization. A slightly driver-oriented dashboard is full of upscale, horizontal lines, but the thing that dominates is a huge touchscreen at the center. A huge majority of controls is mounted on this screen, which isn’t the case with other models in class, even with its corporate siblings Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. When it comes to safety and driver-assist features, you can count on some very advanced systems. For example, there are night vision assistance, lane keeping assistance, all-wheel active steering, cross-traffic assist and much more. Under the hood, the 2020 Volkswagen Touareg will come with one big novelty for the European market. It is a hybrid version which has been already presented in China. This system delivers a combined output of around 365 horsepower. Besides the new hybrid version, we will see a familiar gasoline V6, which is good for about 420 horsepower. Considering the fact that European drivers prefer oil burners, we will see two familiar TDI units in the offer as well, with 230 and 286 horsepower. All models will feature a familiar 8-speed automatic transmission. We expect to see 2020 Volkswagen Touareg sometime late in the next year.

BMW took the wraps off the fourth-generation X5 (codenamed G05) about a month ago and already it’s releasing preliminary details about the midsize luxury SUV’s pricing in the United States. 1,200 more than the old 2018 X5 xDrive35i. 1,700 more than the year before. The price hike is justifiable in many ways as the new X5 comes equipped as standard with a multitude of goodies. These include adaptive full-LED headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof, dual 12.3-inch digital screens, and an eight-speed sport automatic transmission with launch control. Reaching deeper into your pockets will bring extra toys like a heated steering wheel, remote engine start, laser headlights, and heated armrests. The options list also includes additional safety systems and even heated and cooled cupholders. Both the xDrive40i and the 50i xDrive have more power than the models they replace. The former with its 3.0-liter straight-six engine offers 335 horsepower and 330 pound-feet whereas the old xDrive35i had to make do with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. The V8 version utilizes an evolution of the 4.4-liter now pushing out 456 hp and 479 lb-ft instead of the previous 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. BMW will sell the 2019 X5 in the United States in a standard xLine specification alongside a nicer M Sport Package trim level. There will also be an optional off-road package featuring air suspension and a mechanical rear locking differential, as well as a factory-installed trailer hitch rated at 7,200-lbs towing capacity.
