Volkswagen E-Golf Touch Features And Specs

It seems with every new concept vehicle, we’re getting closer and closer to what authors probably imagined the future would look like. At least when it comes to technology. When reading about the Volkswagen e-Golf Touch features and specs, one of the most overlooked features is the potential for your vehicle to someday Tweet for you. Perhaps because we aren’t quite ready for our cars to have more followers than we have. Still, some of the features aren’t so AI sounding, and actually could be really handy to have. The big thing everyone is discussing are the gesture controls in the e-Golf Touch, as the system is looking better since we first heard wind of it at CES 2015 with the Golf R Touch. The system itself is improved and near production, with the gesture controls coming in as just a part of how the overall system operates. The hard buttons are gone, with four touch-sensitive buttons on the right along with a push-rotary switch. Voice command features are also heading into a new generation, with activation no longer requiring a hard button press, but simply saying “Hello Volkswagen” brings up a list of functions on the screen.

Between touch, gesture and voice, the system is designed to be as intuitive as possible. New infotainment is always a favorite topic for discussion, but the e-Golf Touch concept has a variety of clever advancements that we can’t wait to see as available features. Wireless connectivity is one of our favorites, as detangling cables can be scary, especially at highway speeds. A USB Type C will be present for faster transfer and charging, but inductive charging is integrated into the mobile phone tray under the infotainment system and in the backseat armrests, plus App-Connect features will work wirelessly in future models. The Personalization 2.0 feature is also earning praise, as it allows drivers to save individual infotainment settings to the Car-Net cloud. This means if you upgrade to a model later on, rent a VW with these features or even have different preferences within the household, you can change the settings to what you’re accustomed to. There’s no word on when we’ll be seeing any of these features in the U.S. European market. We imagine we could see them as early as the next model year. The TSI engines once again make their appearance as prime examples of efficiency: with 122 PS the new Golf 1.4 TSI consumes just 6.2 liters Super (144 g/km CO2); this represents a fuel consumption advantage of 0.1 liters. Even the new 160-PS top version of the 1.4 TSI achieves a top value at 6.3 liters. The 160-PS TSI's fuel consumption too was lowered by 1.6 liters compared to the retired 150-PS FSI. With the exception of the entry-level versions, all gasoline and diesel engines may be paired with Volkswagen's dual clutch transmission (DSG). Either a 6-speed or 7-speed DSG is used, depending on engine torque. This means that on the Golf the extremely efficient and agile DSG has replaced the classic torque converter automatic. Just how economical the alliance of TSI plus DSG can be is demonstrated by the example of average fuel consumption on the 1.4 TSI with 160 PS and 7-speed DSG: 6.0 liters (139 g/km CO2). This high-tech duo replaces the 2.0 FSI with 150 PS and 6-speed automatic. Average fuel consumption there: 8.3 liters. Savings: 2.3 liters per hundred kilometers or 28 percent - progress at its best.
