The electric 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf makes a total of 134 horsepower and a maximum torque of 214 lb-ft. Zero to 60 mph comes in 8.5 seconds, and if you keep your foot in the carpet, it’ll hit a top speed of 85 mph. There is a 35.8 kWh battery that takes a total of 30 mins to charge to 80 percent using a DC fast charge. One thing that really stood out to me was the smooth and comfortable ride quality. Of course, this being an EV the single speed transmission makes the power delivery seamless. Also, the instant boost available at any speed is one thing I absolutely love about EVs. During my time with the Volkswagen e-Golf, I never really went below 50% charge so I was able to quickly hit 100% within 25-30 mins at a nearby DC fast charging station. On a full charge, you get a range of 125 to 135 miles, which is perfect for driving around town.

Of course, if you’re a heavy commuter the Volkswagen e-Golf is not for you. VW seems to be doing its best to make owning an electric-car as easy as possible for potential Volkswagen e-Golf buyers. While it doesn’t have Tesla’s Supercharger network, it has teamed up with ChargePoint to provide authorized e-Golf dealers with charging stations where owners can charge up. Buyers of the e-Golf also receive a complimentary ChargePoint card which gives them access to more than 34,000 ChargePoint stations in North America. Also, VW’s Roadside Assistance Plan hopes to curb range anxiety should you run out of battery within 100 miles of your house. If you do find yourself in that situation, VW will have your Volkswagen e-Golf delivered to a nearby charging station and will pay for any transportation costs.
