This seems to be a bit high. I have looked and not found the average running temp anywhere. What is the average running temp at 30k RPM's? And what is the best way to test the temp sensor and water pump on this car? 190 is fine, that is considered to be operating temp. If it goes higher, check coolant level. VW's are known for water pumps sheering off internally, so its always something to consider if problems arise, but for now I'd consider your car fine. VWs the fans kick in at about 212 degrees which i believe is boiling point but because the system is under pressure the boiling point is raised. EPA. i do believe that your running temperature is in the optimal range for that car. You have a 190 deg F thermostat and what you describe is where it ought to be- Did you never look at your gage before this? These bad boys warm up in a real quick time. 20 miles in one shot yet? Water Pumps do not shear off and that dude is a weeney. The other guy is just to wishy washy for anyone to trust, even though he is right. Not a good thing in a tech.
