Tracy Morgan's Bugatti Isn't Worth What He Paid For It Now

Who would have thought that damaging a Veyron won鈥檛 increase its resale value? I know you鈥檒l be looking now at stills of the accident and the damaged Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport and think to yourself, 鈥檃h, it鈥檒l buff right out! First off, though, if you aren鈥檛 interested in showbiz, you may be wondering who Tracy Morgan is, to begin with. Well, he鈥檚 a 50-year-old American actor, voice actor, and comedian best known as a cast member on the popular satire and comedy show 鈥橲aturday Night Live鈥?between 1996 and 2003 and, as well, on the satirical sitcom 鈥?0 Rock鈥? For his part in 30 Rock, Morgan was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2009, but he鈥檚 also starred in some rather successful motion pictures on the big screen. Morgan鈥檚 white example is a 2012 MY car that he bought from Manhattan Motorcars, a luxury car dealer in New York City.

Morgan took delivery of the Veyron himself and promptly took it out of the dealership to drive it home. Madulid claims she鈥檚 not at fault for the otherwise minor fender-bender. 2 million to purchase. Witnesses said they heard the actor shouting that he鈥檇 just bought the car, which is why he got aggravated. Morgan reportedly proceeded to shout at Madulid to get out of the car, despite the fact that the incident only resulted in cosmetic damage to both vehicles and nobody was injured. Minutes after the accident, Morgan phoned back to the dealership. As you鈥檇 expect, while all this was going on, a crowd of onlookers with their phones at the ready started gathering around the stranded Bugatti which made the actor "anxious" before a white Lamborghini Urus arrived at the scene. Morgan, though, must鈥檝e felt relieved after the incident since five years ago he was involved in a much heavier collision that almost cost his life. The actor was traveling in a Mercedes-Benz MPV when the vehicle was rammed from behind by a Walmart truck whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. While Morgan and most of the members of his entourage escaped with their lives, comedian James MacNair, known professionally as Jimmy Mack, was fatally injured in the crash. As you鈥檇 expect, Morgan is one of many celebrities to have damaged their supercars, although his incident is minor in comparison to others. British actor Rowan Atkinson, known for playing the role of 鈥橫r. 1.5 million Ferrari Enzo owned by a man from Texas who promptly repaired the car and put it up for sale. 2,000 more than the MSRP of a 2019 Porsche Macan with no options on it. 2,000 for the labor.

Living in a shadow isn鈥檛 easy. It鈥檚 a thankless existence, typically spent trying to stand out and get a little bit of the limelight so constantly poured on the one blocking the sun. And friends, the Volkswagen Jetta GLI has spent a long time living in the shadow of the legendary Golf GTI. Since its birth, the GLI has carried a GTI engine, a GTI transmission, and GTI-inspired styling. It鈥檚 had the same heavily bolstered seats and steering wheel. Aside from its three-box shape, the hottest Jetta has been nothing more than a GTI with a trunk for its entire existence. Yet, saying the 2019 Jetta GLI is a GTI with a trunk sells this compact sport sedan short. Because it鈥檚 based on a newer vehicle, with more modern styling, and smarter technology than the current Golf, this hot Jetta feels distinct from the GTI. And while there鈥檚 a lot of GTI in the GLI鈥檚 mechanicals, there鈥檚 also bits of Golf R sprinkled in, like coarse grains of salt on a German pretzel. And with a price that undercuts the GTI, the Jetta GLI finally has enough going for it to seize some of its five-door sibling鈥檚 fame.

And to prove that, Volkswagen took us to the famed Tail of The Dragon, a legendary, 318-turn, 11-mile piece of heavenly tarmac draped across the Great Smoky Mountains on the Tennessee-North Carolina border. Let鈥檚 talk about that price, because it really is the most compelling argument for a GLI, particularly if you鈥檙e considering a base model. 800 on the GLI. Of course, once you get away from the pricing, the GLI delivers a GTI-like driving experience. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is a likable engine. Hell, I鈥檓 not sure if VW has ever built a 2.0T that wasn鈥檛 a joy to drive. All 258 pound-feet of torque arrive at 1,700 rpm, so the engine is almost always able to pull the compact body out of corners with verve. The addition of a VAQ limited-slip differential on the GLI only enhances this attribute, curbing wheel spin during overambitious throttle situations. Even at moderate engine speeds, the 2.0T has the goods to go. Even at moderate engine speeds, the 2.0T has the goods to go. Serving alongside the 2.0-liter engine is the driver鈥檚 choice of a standard six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
