Updated at 5:44 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019, with more information. Volkswagen Group of America on Friday offered an Atlas Basecamp Concept SUV, which showcases ways the Chattanooga-made vehicle can be enhanced for trail seekers. The Basecamp Concept features a custom body, lift kit, custom wheels, all-terrain tires, roof rack with bike mounts, and LED light bars, according to the German automaker with an assembly plant in Chattanooga. The Basecamp Concept, designed with endurance mountain biking in mind, is the brainchild of Alex Earle, exterior design manager at the Volkswagen Design Center in California and avid cyclist, the company said. Using a Volkswagen Atlas SEL Premium as the canvas, the Basecamp Concept is painted Platinum Gray and Black Uni with a matte finish and orange accents. The SEL Premium trim comes standard with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine making 276 hp and an eight-speed transmission, paired with Volkswagen 4Motion all-wheel drive with Drive Mode Selection, according to VW. The Atlas Basecamp Concept can be viewed in person at the 2019 New York International Auto Show next week, the company said. U.S. sales of the seven-seat Atlas last month hit an all-time high at 7,381 vehicles, according to VW. Scott Keogh, Volkswagen Group of America's chief executive, said the Atlas is one of three solid-selling vehicles on which the company can build in the future. The other two are the Tiguan SUV and newly redesigned Jetta compact car. The company official said it "fought for the Atlas" SUV, noting the vehicle was designed and made for the American market for the most part. Just recently, VW's Chattanooga plant began so-called "pre-series" production of a five-seat version of the Atlas called the Cross Sport. That vehicle is slated to hit dealerships early next year.
This braking mechanism is further augmented by ABS along with brake assist and electronic differential lock (EDL). It also comes with hill hold control and anti slip regulation system that helps in handling the sedan on slippery roads. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with a stabilizer along with coil spring and shock absorbers. While, the rear axle has a multi link suspension with a similar stabilizer. The car maker has given this sedan an ESC (electronic stability control) system as well. The rack and pinion based power steering system is tilt and telescopic adjustable. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters, which is quite good for this segment. This refurbished version has been integrated with some of the most comfortable features, which gives the occupants a pleasurable driving experience. The inventory of features comprises of an advanced dual zone climatic control unit with rear AC blowers, electric power steering, height adjustable front seats, all four power windows with driver side auto down function and many other such aspects. It also has park distance control and rear mounted proximity sensors, which helps in simplifying the parking of this marvelous sedan.
This highly developed parking system comes with front and rear camera and sensors with an acoustic warning along with crystal clear display, which shows up on the central infotainment system on the central console. Its external wing mirrors are power adjustable, heated and can be electrically folded. It has a sophisticated touchscreen audio system, which has a six CD changer along with input options like an SD card reader, an Aux-in port and eight speakers as well. It has been integrated with a cruise control system, which maintains a steady speed on the highways. The car maker has given this variant a robust and crash safe body structure with front and rear crumple zones that reduces the impact of collision and ensures safety of the occupants sitting inside. It is incorporated with SRS airbags for driver and front co-passenger, 3-point ELR (emergency locking retractor) seat belt for all passengers, rear defogger, ABS with EBD and driver seat belt reminder notification on instrument panel. Apart from these, it is also equipped with brake pad wear indicator, retro reflectors in all doors, central locking with two remote control folding keys and front passenger airbag deactivation system. 1. Spacious internal cabin with a lot of comfort and safety features. 2. Updated exteriors gives it a refreshed look. 1. Lower ground clearance is a big minus point. 2. Sunroof and navigation system can be added.
There is two sides to the deleting debate. I would maybe hold out. VW warranty is good so it would be worth holding on to. I really want one myself, albeit a golf, 4 door, any of the MKVI model years, as they can be had for 8k with mileage as you found, and sometimes, with the warranty if it's not a private sale. I mean how can you beat that. 1,500 if doing it yourself. I sold my Jeep for 8k, I'd have to pony up cash to do that. Another thing to watch out for is the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) on these, the CP4. I am sure it is overblown, there have been catastrophic failures that result in 7-10k in repairs for the entire fuel system that VW sometimes leaves you on the line for. I checked he is no longer making them. I believe this is the pump RAM decided to go with on the 2019 Cummins as well. LOT of info available online for these cars. VW TDI forums, you will get other sites, then just find the specific forum for these MK6 TDIs, tons of info. Facebook if you have it. I buy one tomorrow if I had the money? Undoubtedly. I'd have one yesterday! But I would know what I was walking into.
Volkswagen has revealed the 2019 Jetta GLI, wrapping the 2.0-liter TSI engine of the Golf GTI in a performance sedan body. It鈥檚 based on VW鈥檚 MQB architecture, unsurprisingly, just like the more mainstream 2019 Jetta. However into that the automaker drops its EA888 TSI engine, for 18 hp and 41 lb-ft more than the outgoing Jetta GLI. There鈥檚 variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust sides, along with variable exhaust valve lift. Power is routed to the front wheels, and VW is giving a nod to purists by spec鈥檌ng a six-speed manual transmission as standard. Those who prefer not to row their own gears have the option of a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic instead. That comes with auto start/stop, too. Independent sport suspension is standard, with a strut-type setup at the front and multi-link for the rear wheels. 13.4-inch vented front disc brakes are shared with the Golf GTI and R, too, and there鈥檚 the VAQ electronically-controlled, torque sensing limited-slip differential.
