Hot Hatch Fans Rejoice, VW Up! GTI Goes On Sale In Europe
The GTI name is firmly embedded in the Volkswagen brand and is the most familiar designation worldwide for sporty compact cars. The 鈥楪TI family' of the Wolfsburg manufacturer will now include several GTI models: the iconic Golf GTI (169 kW/230 PS3 and 180 kW/245 PS as the Golf GTI Performance4), the up! GTI (85 kW/115 PS) that can be ordered starting today and the new Polo GTI with 147 kW/200 PS5which customers can also order soon. GTI - whose exterior and interior dimensions are similar to those of the original GTI of 1976 - is powered by a turbocharged engine (TSI) with a powerful 200 Nm of torque. It reaches a top speed of 196 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds. The colours are once again classic and typical of a GTI: along with the monochrome colours 鈥楻ed' and 鈥楶ure White', the metallic colours 鈥楧ark Silver' and 鈥楤lack Pearl' are also available.
The most powerful up! GTI interior and exterior traits. At the front end, for instance, there is the red cross-stripe in the radiator grille with its honeycomb pattern. Incorporated above it is the GTI logo. On the sides, double black cross stripes extend across the wide side sill covers. In addition, the exterior mirror housings are painted in high-gloss black. The 17-inch alloy wheels have also been redesigned. They have a particularly striking look in the wheel housings, because the up! GTI has sports running gear that is 15 mm lower. GTI features characterise the rear as well: here these include once again a red stripe and a larger roof spoiler that provides greater downforce on the rear axle and thus optimised handling characteristics. Typical interior features include the leather sport steering wheel, GTI gear lever knob and the legendary 鈥楥lark' seat pattern. GTI can now be ordered at prices starting at 16,975 euros. GTI, Volkswagen is launching the first model to obtain type approval based on the new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure). This means that the realistic WLTP figures are available in addition to the currently mandatory NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) fuel consumption figures. The WLTP introduces a test procedure for determining fuel consumption and exhaust emissions that is uniform across many parts of the globe. GTI, a WLTP fuel consumption figure of 5.7 to 5.6 l/100 km (combined) was measured.
Next to the multi-function steering wheel, the Beetle Cabriolet not only has a small wheel for regulating the brightness of the instrument panel; it also has a second wheel with the scale markings 鈥?鈥? 鈥渞鈥? 鈥渨鈥?and 鈥渂鈥? This wheel allows selection of the colour for the ambient illumination in red, white or blue. Indirect illumination is provided on the top rail of the door, while direct illumination emanates from around the outer circumference of the door speakers in the form of a light ring. The above shows "w" - the white illumination lining around the circumference of the door speakers. And "r" for red - it seems more pink to me.. This ambient lighting package comes with the Fender sound system, which is standard in the Beetle Cabriolet. The legendary American musical instrument and amplifier manufacturer worked in collaboration with Panasonic to create the Fender sound system exclusively for Volkswagen.
The package consists of two tweeters each installed in the rear view mirror triangles and rear side panelling. Woofers are contained in the front doors; the woofers behind the rear side panelling have single vibration coils. In addition a subwoofer is installed in a closed bass box integrated into the boot. The heart of the sound system is the 10-channel amplifier with Class A/B output stages and 400 watts of output power. Perfectly synced to this sound system is the latest generation of the Composition Media infotainment system. The 6.33-inch touchscreen display features proximity sensors - as soon as the driver's or front passenger's finger approaches the touchscreen, the infotainment system automatically switches from the display mode to a user control mode. The normal display mode is distinguished by a format reduced to the essentials. In the user control mode, on the other hand, the elements that can be activated via touchscreen are specially highlighted, which simplifies intuitive control. The system also allows for two mobile phones to be paired via Bluetooth, providing greater flexibility of use for both driver and passenger alike. I like the interior with the white finish that matches well with the exterior colour.
