What Is Included In The VW Golf GTI Performance Package?





What is included in the VW Golf GTI Performance Package? There鈥檚 a hatchback, and then there鈥檚 a hot hatch, and those who buy the latter are clearly looking for something that offers just a little bit more. Whether it鈥檚 better styling, faster acceleration or more features, the Volkswagen Golf GTI offers all three over the standard Golf, but sometimes even that isn鈥檛 enough. GTI owners are looking for performance, and will almost certainly tune their GTI themselves, but what about the Performance Package? The first thing you鈥檒l notice is it increases the horsepower, but what is included in the VW Golf GTI Performance Package? 1,495 and 10 horsepower isn鈥檛 a deal maker even for those who plan to race, and many enthusiasts agree the added package is for those who do plan to take the GTI to the track. It isn鈥檛 just about added horsepower, but larger brakes and the torque-sensing electronically-controlled limited-slip differential that are added to the GTI to accommodate the added power. The standard GTI comes equipped with 12.4-inch vented front discs and 10.7-inch solid rear discs. The upgraded ones are 13.4-inch front and 12.2-inch rear vented discs, and add the GTI logo just for style. It鈥檚 the VAQ limited slip differential that most people agree is what makes the Performance Package worth it. GTI is. First, it鈥檚 miles better than any of VW鈥檚 past Golf GTI mistakes. Plus, today鈥檚 Golf GTI costs more than twice as much as the Up! GTI in the U.K. While it almost definitely will never happen, if VW of America were to bring the Up! But if it did come here, I鈥檇 prefer VW remove the 鈥淚鈥?from the badge and call this current car the Up! GT. Then I鈥檇 ask the company to have its engineers create a truly hot version to earn back the final letter. It would need more substantial seats (the fronts in the 35-years-old Rabbit GTI were miles better), a limited-slip differential, an 鈥楨SP Off鈥?button, and retuned steering and suspension. GTI would also need more poke in the engine鈥檚 upper range and a tighter shift linkage. Oh, and tweaked pedals, as they鈥檙e currently spaced in such a way that makes heel-and-toe shifting too tricky. Don鈥檛 get me wrong, I still really like the Up! GTI in its current form, especially considering the price and its impressive build quality. But it simply needs to be edgier to wear such an iconic badge, with a chassis and overall driving experience that lives up to the promises made by the rest of the package. Then, yes, send the tweaked Up! GTI to America as an affordable way to court a new generation of enthusiasts, and to augment the Golf GTI and Golf R in VW鈥檚 hot-hatch lineup. We truly need a proper modern Rabbit GTI鈥攁nd I certainly don鈥檛 mean the special-edition Golf GTI that VW has planned.





Touring Car stand out Robb Holland will rejoin the World Challenge Touring Car field this weekend at the Honda Indy Toronto Grand Prix, after a one race hiatus. Holland will once again be behind the wheel of the 3Zero3 Motorsports Volkswagen GTI, that set the track record and finished 3rd in Mosport after an epic race long battle with Chip Herr and Robert Stout. 鈥淭he race weekend at Mosport went far better than anyone could have reasonably expected. 3R Racing and 3Zero3 Motorsports combined efforts to build our GTI in 27 days! 鈥淲e made it to Mosport with very little testing and with the help of APR Tuning and Irish Mike鈥檚 Racing, we were able to get the bugs worked out and be competitive straight out of the box! I am looking at the Jetta or Passat- what are their reputations & are maintanance/repairs more costly than they would be for a Toyota or Honda? Yes they are good cars, but at the same time just about any car sold in the U.S. I love my cousins Jetta. I wish I had one. Is all I am saying. A few years ago, we bought a VW. We loved the car and have since then had nothing but VWs. To us VWs have an almost indefinable prescence about them. Just the way they comport themselves when weather conditions turn ugly makes us feel safer than other cars we've had. Remember, VWs were designed in Germany where they still have unlimited speeds on the Autobahns. They must meet strict safety standards for this reason alone. In fact they have been more reliable which is why we have a 2005 Jetta and a 2006 GTI! As far as costs go, lets face it this day and age nothing is 'cheap' anymore.





We dont know how much parts cost for our VWs simply because we have'nt had to make any repairs on them. But I'm sure they would be in the same price range with any car make. Blue Ridge Mts. The GTI is the perfect car for the twisty roads! Oh, if you don't like the chrome Smiling Grill on the Jetta try the GTI. Its grill is black and features a honey-comb style with red trim. Or if you don/t like that the 2004 and older have a more traditional grill. A friend of ours has a 2005 Passat and they are quite happy with it. Get an aircooled Beetle. Parts are extremely cheap and easy as hell to find (any Autozone). 100/hr at a garage. They are very fun to drive. As long as they are kept stock, they appreciate in value. 5600. What modern car can do that for you? On top of that, wouldnt it be nice to get daily complements from people that you don't know, and to have the ability to turn just about every head on the road?
