2019 Volkswagen Eos: New Car Review

2019 Volkswagen Eos: New Car Review

Fuel economy for the Eos is EPA rated at 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway. The 2012 Volkswagen Eos comes with standard stability control, four-wheel ABS, four airbags (front and front side), and a rear-passenger rollover protection system that deploys aluminum posts from behind the rear seats if an imminent rollover is detected. The government has not crash tested the Eos recently, but the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Eos its highest rating of Good in every tested category. Thanks in part to that huge glass sunroof, the Eos has an airy, relaxed character at speed. Noise suppression from the insulated hard top is very good, and the cabin remains turbulence free at reasonable velocities with the top down. The Eos's soft underpinnings make it a suboptimal choice for enthusiastic cornering, even with the Executive model's sport-tuned suspension. But if you simply intend to cruise around and soak up the rays, the easy-riding Eos will be a great companion.

Since VW launched the Phaeton in the U.S. 2003, the car has not approached its initial sales target of 5,000 a year. This year, the Phaeton does not appear to be on track to hit its lowered U.S. 10,000 in dealer cash last year on 2004 models. Bode says it was probably a mistake for VW to launch the Touareg and the Phaeton together. Marketing wasn't sufficient to position both vehicles strategically, he says. Bode says VWoA's continued losses also affected the decision to yank the Phaeton. VW expected to turn around its fortunes in the United States this year with redesigned versions of the Jetta and Passat and a freshened New Beetle. Chris Curran, a Volkswagen dealer in Stratford, Conn., says "it's no surprise" VW is dropping the Phaeton. Curran says the Phaeton represented too big a jump for traditional VW buyers to make. At the same time, he says, luxury buyers did not gravitate to the car.

In the wake of the VW emissions scandal and with the ever falling gasoline prices , Volkswagen released a stretched version of their popular Tiguan crossover at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Volkswagen鈥檚 new stretched out Tiguan is a direct response to consumers鈥?interest moving towards crossovers, sports-utility vehicles and pickup trucks amid the low gas prices. VW dealers are adding two vehicles to their lineup because of those demands, the Atlas being one of those and the other being the stretched out Tiguan. The new Tiguan will have third row seating, adding two more seats to the popular crossover. Nearly 11 inches longer and with 57% more cargo space, the Tiguan is much bigger than its predecessor, by auto industry standards. The vehicle will get optional safety systems that are spreading quickly throughout the industry, such as forward-collision warning, pedestrian monitoring, blind-spot detection and lane-departure warnings. The vehicle will get a 2-liter turbocharged direct-injection engine with 184 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive version of the 2018 model-year Tiguan will get third-row seats as standard, while it will be optional on all-wheel-drive vehicles. The New Tiguan will be here in 2018 and the Atlas following shortly. No prices have been revealed for either of the new SUVs.
