Well, we know that hatch people tend to be hatch people. That there's a preference for the styling of a hatch with the European look and feel of a hatchback, and so for those people, we've always had the GTI. Have you seen, or do you expect to see, any differences in income, gender, location in the country, or is it probably more just, as best as you can tell, preference for sedan versus hatch? Yeah, well when we talk to our customers, we see that there is a very pronounced demand for sedans. I think you hear that in all the different presentations from the different brands. The big thing with those buyers is oftentimes the brand is a key decision factor. But in terms of equipment and value, I think we would give that lower tier a run for its money. Is there any particular detail or thing that you're especially proud of, that someone might not notice just looking at a spec sheet or photos? There's a couple of things. And then, for me, the 35th Edition with the unique styling details鈥攕o the black roof, black rear spoiler, unique wheels鈥攁nd that also comes with the DCC which is our adaptive damping system. That's really the true enthusiast's choice, and that's the car that I would want to take home if we could take it home today. Was there anything that you tried to make happen that just didn't really work out? I'd say, all in all, we achieved what we wanted to with the car. Unfortunately, we can't reveal pricing just yet, and you're probably going to ask about it, but the amount of car that is coming to the market for the price-points, it's impressive. So we're very excited about that.

Hold on to your plaid, everyone. There鈥檚 a new eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf headed our way later this year, and rumours are floating around that it could pack quite a punch in GTI form. How much power are we talking about here? If what we鈥檙e hearing from Auto Bild is accurate, expect upwards of 300 bhp under the bonnet of the hot hatch. The magazine also offers some description of how the new GTI will look. The automaker has done an admirable job of keeping test vehicles out of the public eye, but Auto Bild describes the GTI as wearing a narrow grille with a large lower intake, much like the current model. The rear will retain its dual exhaust tips with a modest roof spoiler, so the fresh design shouldn鈥檛 rock the boat for VW purists. Inside, the car is said to get VW鈥檚 next-generation modular infotainment platform. Getting back to the topic of power, a bump to 300 ponies would be a significant increase from the 228 bhp we currently enjoy in the GTI. Of course, we鈥檙e already familiar with that kind of power in the Golf - the all-wheel-drive Golf R produces 288 bhp in its present form, but the keywords is there is all-wheel drive. We鈥檙e not expecting the next GTI to power all four wheels, so if such a power boost is coming, it would indeed be the hottest hot-hatch GTI ever to turn its front wheels. Channeling that kind of power up front isn鈥檛 an easy task, so if these rumours are true it will be interesting to see how VW tweaks the driveline to make the magic happen. We鈥檙e expecting to see the new GTI revealed later this year as a 2020 model.
