The Polo And The Vento

The Polo And The Vento

Volkswagen started its journey in India in 2007 with the launch of its ace saloon, Passat. The takeoff for this brand was quite slow with initial annual sales not crossing few thousand units. This was primarily because of the pricing and positioning of the vehicle in the market. To change this reality Volkswagen introduced two new vehicles in 2010. Through these automobiles the auto maker learnt Indian language and started its new innings in the country. Just like our own twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the Polo and the Vento emerged out as two popular names within a short period. Volkswagen Polo was the first of the two models to be rolled out. The company made sure to equip this great looking hatchback with some splendid features that could floor customers at the first go. Soft and comfortable seats and an ergonomically designed dashboard carrying some superb functions is just enough for the German company to pull people into this wagon.

The truth about German engineering is realised soon after the customer starts driving the Polo. The refinement level of the engine can be sensed right from the moment the clutch pedal is released. The car is equipped with a speed sensitive power steering which makes the drive a pleasurable one. The control buttons on steering wheel lets the driver operate audio system without taking out his hand from the wheel. An automatic air conditioner with pollen filters improves the comfort level in the cabin space. The feature loaded automobile transforms into an irresistible product with mileage figures 22 kmpl for diesel and 17 kmpl for petrol variants. The European car maker has carefully priced this ace hatchback in Indian market. Rs. 4.97 lakhs is basic Volkswagen Polo price in Hyderabad. After the luxurious sedan Passat, the auto major had to plan for an entry level vehicle for the segment to spread its roots in the market. The auto marquee simply extended the wheelbase of the iconic hatchback Polo and added a trunk to it to form the Volkswagen Vento.

This handsome sedan soon became a benchmark for many other vehicles in the market. Most of the features available in the hatchback are shared with the Vento. The interior of the car is more spacious and comfortable compared to the Polo. The classy ivory coloured leatherette upholstery covers the capacious cabin area which has armrests, bottle holders and glove box for improved convenience. The rear seating arrangement gets separate AC vents for better cooling effect in the area. There is an RCD 320 music system with 4-speakers to entertain passengers. This audio system enables Bluetooth connectivity which lets the driver answer and make phone calls without having to operate the mobile phone. The sedan too has been well positioned in terms of pricing. Rs. 7.4 lakhs turns out to be the basic Volkswagen Vento price in Hyderabad. The higher-end diesel variant comes at a cost of Rs. 9.92 lakhs. The German car manufacturer has included a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission system in this sedan to uplift the ease of driving this Volkswagen.

Two race wins across the Atlantic City weekend put Scott Speed back in control of the driver鈥檚 championship standings and clinched a second manufacturer鈥檚 championship for Volkswagen. Herndon, VA 鈥?Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross鈥檚 Scott Speed was unstoppable in Atlantic City this weekend, claiming victory in two races at the Bader Field circuit and reclaiming control of his championship destiny with a nearly perfect haul of points. The double triumph also secured Volkswagen鈥檚 second, consecutive manufacturer鈥檚 championship in the series, making it only the second automaker to win multiple championship titles. Speed set sail from the outset of the weekend with the quickest time in qualifying for Race 1 on Saturday morning. His one bobble of the weekend came in the second round of Heats on Saturday, where the No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC driver finished second. 鈥淭his was an incredibly important race weekend for us, and we walked out of Atlantic City with about the best result we could have hoped for,鈥?said Speed.

While Speed won the first Final of the weekend, his journey to the checkered flag was anything but easy. A pileup at the first corner shuffled the running order and Speed had to set out in chase of the race leaders. He made a thrilling pass for the lead with just two laps to go and earned his first winner鈥檚 trophy of the weekend in one of the season鈥檚 most exciting races so far. Sunday was a more routine setting for the reigning series champion. Speed again was quickest in qualifying and controlled each of his races from the front of the pack, earning wins in every event and maximum trove of points. While Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammate Tanner Foust was also at the quick end of the field, he fell victim to a number of unlucky incidents that prevented him from enjoying an equally successful weekend. Foust started beside his teammate in Saturday鈥檚 Final, but the first lap contact between the field of ten drivers forced the No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle GRC to stop on course.
