Meet The Man Who Owns 114 VW Golfs

Meet The Man Who Owns 114 VW Golfs

Out of the 30 million Golf units sold since the 1970s, 114 of them are owned by one man. Yes, Volkswagen鈥檚 best-selling vehicle has been more than just a car for Josef Juza, a chimney sweep from Austria. He has owned 144 VW Golfs, ranging from rare kinds, like a sliding-door Golf, to odd ones that we bet you never knew existed. With this huge collection of cars, calling Juza a fan is an understatement. His fascination with the Golf started the first time he sat inside the car. 鈥淲hen I sat in a Golf for the first time I just had the feeling that this car had been built for me alone,鈥?said Juza. Juza began his collection as part of his job when he was driving a second-generation, European-spec Caddy. His collection began to grow from then on, owning as many Golf types as you can imagine - a Cabrio for summer, a GTI for some driving fun, and a Golf Country for winter. However, what sparked the collection was his first Mk1 Golf with a dovetail spoiler that he got from a car show the mid-1990s, filling up his Golf collection found in a warehouse outside Vienna.

In the modern age, Juza added more cars into his herd the same way anyone who shops online does. 鈥淚 only had to have a quick look on the Internet and I soon found another great vehicle that cost practically nothing. The transport was often more expensive than the price of the vehicle,鈥?he said. The oldest of Juza鈥檚 collection is a 1974 pre-production Golf fitted with a forward-sliding door. He also has two all-electric Golfs, known as CitySTROMer I and II, which used gel-electrolyte batteries. Among the rarest in his 鈥淕olf Pack鈥?is one of the 71 Golf G60 Limited models, which were hand-built by Volkswagen Motorsport. This car produced 207 horsepower from a supercharged four-cylinder engine. He also has a 181-hp 1989 Rallye Golf. Of course, a collection that鈥檚 114 strong isn鈥檛 without quirky inclusions. Juza owns several Golf-based campers, as well as two stairway cars built off VW Pickups that were used by the Bremen airport. Probably the coolest among the herd is the customized first-generation GTI that鈥檚 made by a German tuner for a Middle Eastern prince. It has wood inserts, topgrain leather, and a 1980s luxury item - a carphone. Juza admits that taking care of 144 Golfs is no easy feat. He plans to open his collection to the public as a sort of Golf museum. Now, if you want to buy one of his Golfs, that might not be a great idea.

The Volkswagen Fest 2018 is on till tomorrow, the 14th of October 2018. This is the second year running that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia have held the event that celebrates Volskwagen, old and new and in every shape and size. Here are some of the highlights of the festival as photographed by Yours Truly on Friday, the day it opened its doors to the public. The three day event is where you can find deals, promotions and other goodies for new and nearly new Volkswagen cars. Most of the dealers around the Klang Valley have participated and they have both new and also pre-owned cars (ex-demonstrators, company cars etc) which are on sale at attractive prices. You can also test drive the cars there and then close the deal there. Volkswagen Malaysia also displayed their new JOIN series of cars - the Passat, Tiguan, Vento and Polo JOIN editions which can be purchased via Lazada online or through the usual channels. By now, the 25 units offered through Lazada should have been snapped up as you get a special gift if you book online. But anyway, you can still book through the usual channels. Anyway, there are a lot of things to do for the family. Lots of stuff from food trucks, souvenirs, and more for everyone. So if you have nothing to do tomorrow, head over to Setia City Convention Centre for some Volkswagen related fun.

Volkswagen is getting hip. The brand has prepared seven enthusiast-inspired "concepts" for SOWO: The European Experience, and there's something for everyone to take in. The event is a tuner fest for fans of European cars and runs this weekend in Hutchinson Island, Savannah, Georgia. Naturally, VWs are a perfect fit. The concept cars range from stance, to adventure, to wild wraps and cover the majority of VW's models sold in the U.S. The first is a wagon with 1990s-themed garb. The Golf Alltrack Combi concept blends green and pink (kind of like those paper cups from decades ago) and sits on a set of H&R VTF adjustable lowering springs. Other small touches include a Golf GTE front bumper, a light bar, and a cargo box. The VW GTI Rabbit Confetti concept is all about the wrap scene. Vinyl wraps have become a very popular aftermarket trend, and the Rabbitt Confetti concept is just what it sounds. VW wrapped the Golf GTI in a blue-colored wrap with sprinkles of the VW Rabbit logo throughout.
