Remember The Harlequin Golf And Polo?

Remember The Harlequin Golf And Polo?

During this weekend鈥檚 Southern Worthersee, Volkswagen debuted a slew of mildly modified new cars to the gathered Euro Tuner crowd. VW wants to lean in to the whole scene, and show off the concepts to folks who might be willing to perform these modifications to their own new Volkswagens. It鈥檚 like dressing your house when you go to sell it, right? You have to show what it can be. The Golf GTI Rabbit Confetti Concept is my favorite of the seven shown 鈥渃oncepts鈥?at SoWo this weekend. It鈥檚 equal parts modern and throwback heritage, and the confetti visuals are simply a whimsical way to make the car more visible in a visual-heavy crowd of cars. Inspired by the iconic Golf GTI Rabbit logo, the Confetti Concept starts with a limited-run 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition. The GTI is covered in a wrap decorated with Rabbit logos, plus a few hidden surprises, arranged in a confetti-like pattern. This concept is fitted with 19-inch Rotiform RSE wheels, complete with customized Rotiform Aerodisk wheel covers; H&R VTF adjustable lowering springs; tinted windows; and Volkswagen Accessories base carrier bars with a Thule Canyon XT Cargo Basket. This is all off-the-shelf shit. You could go reproduce this with your GTI in a weekend if you really wanted to. The wrap is great, but it would be better if it were painted on. Volkswagen has offered crazier designs before. Remember the Harlequin Golf and Polo? I want to see confetti鈥檇 Golfs on showroom floors! Limited edition, obviously, I don鈥檛 expect this to be a highly sought after look, but it sure is cool.

While Volkswagen has yet to reveal exactly how much the Jetta GLI will cost when it comes out later this year, the pricing will be 鈥渋mpressive,鈥?according to product developer Adam Reinhardt. Reinhardt made his comments to Motor Trend at the Chicago Auto Show, where he spoke at length about the new, more powerful than ever sedan. Unfortunately, we can鈥檛 reveal pricing just yet,鈥?Reinhardt told Motor Trend, though he did have some encouraging news. While that remains a fairly wishy washy statement-鈥渂etter money鈥?along with the whole comment being couched in equipment levels make it anything but a clear declaration-it鈥檚 nice to hear that the GLI should still be a performance bargain. 鈥淭he number one thing with this car was to make sure that it was on the same performance plane as the GTI,鈥?said Reinhardt. Now that the GLI is on the MQB chassis, though, Volkswagen thinks it should be able to keep up with the GTI. And the performance numbers so far (230 hp, Golf R brakes, VAQ diff) back that up. Reinhardt also revealed that the GLI is a little heavier than the current Golf, though that isn鈥檛 really much of a surprise given the extra sheet metal. And since the Jetta鈥檚 coefficient of drag is so low, it might pick up some speed in the straights. Unfortunately, when the Mk8 Golf is revealed in Europe later this year (it鈥檒l be a little longer before it鈥檚 sold in America), it will undoubtedly improve and surpass the GLI again. Some sources report that the power on the Mk8 GTI will be up to nearly 290 hp, though VW has yet to even hint at the coming GTI鈥檚 power levels, officially.

Herndon, VA - The Volkswagen Passat continues to earn plaudits from both the media and consumers, who just voted it the top rated premium mid-size car in the Autobytel and AutoPacific 2012 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. Other Volkswagen vehicles to collect these awards were Beetle, which was Top Rated Compact Car; GTI, Top Rated Premium Compact Car; and Tiguan, Top Rated Compact Crossover SUV. Volkswagen had the most individual awards for a single brand, with four in total. Autobytel Inc, the company dedicated to helping car dealers and car-buyers connect online, and AutoPacific, the market research and product-consulting firm, surveyed more than 75,000 vehicle owners for the awards. These are designed to help consumers make informed vehicle purchase decisions via a true 鈥渨ord of mouth鈥?survey. The survey measures how satisfied an owner is with his or her new vehicle, based on 48 individual vehicle attributes designed to objectively measure the ownership experience.

Is the Volkswagen GTI a Good Car? The VW GTI is an excellent compact car. This fun-to-drive hatch has dynamic handling, an energetic turbocharged engine, and a set of slick gearboxes. The GTI is more than just a sporty four-door, though. It also has a handsome interior, roomy seats, and a superb infotainment system. That said, while its safety scores are decent, they're low for the class. Should I Buy the Volkswagen GTI? If driving enjoyment is a top priority, you won't go wrong with a Volkswagen GTI. Should I Buy a New or Used Volkswagen GTI? Volkswagen launched the seventh-generation GTI for 2015, and it has received numerous updates since. VW upgraded the car鈥檚 technology for 2016 by adding a standard rearview camera, an improved infotainment system, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (previously unavailable). For 2017, VW discontinued the two-door model and debuted the Sport trim. Volkswagen refreshed the GTI for the 2018 model year. In addition to styling changes, it gained a more powerful engine.

For 2019, the new GTI gets a boost in engine power for the second year in a row and more optional safety features in the base model. Purchasing a used GTI may save you money, but consider each year's enhancements so you can choose the model that fits you best.
