2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Better Value Than Golf GTI

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Better Value Than Golf GTI

Unlike the previous model, the new Jetta GLI will receive the same upgrades as the Golf GTI. As one of the most iconic hatchbacks of all time, the Volkswagen Golf GTI needs no introduction. Earlier this month, the all-new Volkswagen Jetta GLI arrived at the Chicago Auto Show. While pricing is still being kept under wraps, VW Product Developer Adam Reinhardt believes the 2019 Jetta GLI will offer significantly better value than the Golf GTI. So we're very excited about that. 27,595 excluding the destination charge. Unlike the previous generation GLI, the new model will receive all the upgrades found on its GTI cousin. It packs the GTI鈥檚 228-hp engine, an independent rear suspension, Golf R brakes, and Volkswagen's VAQ limited-slip differential, so it should be just as fun to drive as the Golf GTI. Other sporty styling cues include a lower ride height, black honeycomb grille with a distinctive red accent line that harkens to the GTI, sleek 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and red brake calipers. It鈥檚 safer and more technologically advanced than previous model too, with standard driver assists including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

Though if you crave more of the stuff, then the 拢980 Performance Pack option is a box that has to be ticked. But while there鈥檚 more power, the really good news is that chassis remains unflustered, and full-power traction is still impressive. Let's get something straight from the start; if you鈥檙e looking for the sharpest hot-hatch available, then the Golf GTI - multi-talented though it is - is not the car for you. However, don鈥檛 for one-minute assume the GTI is anything but an exciting steer, it鈥檚 just that it does everything with such committed security that no matter your speed it always feels completely safe. There鈥檚 a new progressive steering system that cuts down on the number of turns needed from the steering wheel when moving from lock to lock, increasing the sharpness of the front wheels鈥?reactions. On top of this the GTI is fitted with the latest generation of Dynamic Chassis Control, as well as Driving Mode Selection.

The former allows users to select between Comfort, Normal and Sport modes altering the reactions of the suspension to the road surface beneath it. Add to that the Eco, Sport, Normal and Individual modes of the Driving Mode Selection system and drivers can tailor the car鈥檚 responses to their own desires. Controlling the steering, throttle, and in DSG-equipped cars the gearbox responses as well, there鈥檚 a mode to suit everyone鈥檚 needs and conditions ahead of them. To be fair there鈥檚 no lack of talent on display in the car鈥檚 default 鈥楴ormal鈥?setting anyway, with sharp turn-in and very little body-roll. The steering鈥檚 well-weighted too, and offers an appreciable level of feedback - even if it鈥檚 not quite as communicative as it is in a BMW M135i. There鈥檚 plenty of grip from all wheels, and even aggressive inputs struggle to upset the car鈥檚 natural and neutral balance. And if there is any cause for concern, the GTI鈥檚 ESP system cuts in and brings everything back under control. A new Sport mode allows a greater degree of slip before intervening, and in general the safety system is so subtle you鈥檒l struggle to detect it cutting in at any point. Adding the Performance Pack also increases the car鈥檚 cornering performance. Performance Pack car adds an Electronic Front Differential Lock, a world first in a production front-wheel drive car, which can send up to 100 percent of the torque to the outside front wheel in extreme situations.
