2019 Lexus GS 450h

Mention hybrids to a driving enthusiast, and likely as not, you’ll get an earful about the stereotype: a tree-hugger lightly pressing the pedal to squeeze every last drop of efficiency while cars line up behind him on the highway. But those same electric motors that boost fuel efficiency can also be used to up the acceleration factor, as they do in the Lexus GS 450h hybrid sports sedan. Wedged between the popular ES and the luxo-limo LS lines, the GS is almost the “forgotten” Lexus: it’s a relatively rare sight in my neck of the woods. There are four variations - the V6-powered GS 350 in rear- or all-wheel drive, the V8-equipped GS 460, and the GS 450h hybrid. The 450h uses a direct-injected 3.5-litre V6 with hybrid electric drive and continuously variable transmission. Its rear-wheel drive configuration, unusual for a hybrid, adds to its cred as a driver’s vehicle, although I’m not convinced that a sports sedan should have a CVT, even one with a manual mode as the 450h has. It’s an exceptionally well-done unit for a CVT, but it lacks that visceral mechanical feel of gears meshing to move the power around. And if it’s supposed to be a sports sedan, where are the paddle shifters? Speaking of power, the official numbers are 339 horsepower for the combined system; torque is rated at 267 lb-ft, but that’s just for the gasoline engine, as Lexus doesn’t give the combined rating in that department. Suffice to say that there’s plenty of twist going to those rear wheels: the 450h takes off from a standing stop like a scared rabbit, and blasts power into the speedometer’s triple digits. It does that even in normal mode, but if that’s not enough, a “power” button on the console ramps everything up for faster acceleration or passing power. All that energy will cost you, though, and that’s where the 450h’s understated blue hybrid badge seems somewhat at odds with what the car will do.

Anatomy Lect 5 Trunk & Spine

Let’s start off with the Volkswagen Golf Wagon 90TSI Trendline. Housing the refined 1.4 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, you are not going to be left short of grunt. With a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearbox, optimum use of the 200 Nm at between 1500-4000 rpm can be accessed. Between 1500 rpm and 4000 rpm is where this little engine loves to sing all day long. Want an extra squirt of power, then flick the gear down a cog and the engine easily finds its maximum power of 90 kW which sits between 5000-5500 rpm - now you have your passing manoeuvre done and dusted. Enjoyable direct handling makes this a nice Golf Wagon to own and drive. Though considered the base model, you’ll still find comfortable, Smart cloth seats, plenty of electrics, a decent stereo, six airbags, ESP, ASR, ABS, Brake Assist, EDL, EBD, HAS and wonderful interior craftsmanship. Next in the line-up is the Volkswagen Golf Wagon 77TDI Trendline.

You have under the hood a little beauty of an engine that is just so frugal and responsive. This is the sort of powerplant that makes the Golf Wagon such a class leader. The unit has been engineered as a very clean-burning TDI engine with diesel particulate filter control. Boasting a 1.6-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine, you find the maximum power of 77 kW at 4400rpm very accessible. However, with such strong torque low down in the engine revs (250Nm at between 1500-2500 rpm), and a slick seven-speed DSG gearbox, this is an engine that can pull from any gear no sweat, at all. Again you find six airbags, ESP, ASR, ABS, Brake Assist, EDL, EBD, HAS and top workmanship in the interior. VW know how to make a cabin classy and tactile. With a few more bells and whistles, the Golf Wagon 118TSI Comfortline looks very sporty. This is backed up by housing a 1.4-litre TSI twin turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet.

You’ll find the maximum power of 118 kW at 5900 rpm fun to put through its paces. A healthy maximum torque of 240 Nm at between 1750-4500 rpm, and a seven-speed DSG gearbox, and this is a sweet little performer. All the top safety features, as mentioned above, ensure you are well looked after, and an optional Sport package sets this off as a stylish wagon. A great ride and handling package makes it a smooth refined performer. Finally, at the top of the Volkswagen Golf Wagon range is the 103TDI Comfortline. Comfortline means “nice to travel in”, and the well-groomed performance doesn’t have to cost the earth at the petrol pump. The 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine is exceptionally sporty, with 103 kW at its peak, and 320 Nm of torque available over a flat torque curve. Linked to a six-speed DSG gearbox, and with all the active safety kit (as mentioned above), this is a wagon you’re going to enjoy driving long distances day in, day out. The Optional Sport package is worth the few extra dollars spent. Make your day, and drive the Golf way. You’ll see why it is such a popular choice in Europe.

Similar to a self-inf lating air mattress, air can be sucked out of the seat surfaces via a valve. Volkswagen is presenting some completely new solutions when it comes to operator controls. In the cockpit, a 8-inch monitor shows the driver key information such as vehicle speed, fuel level and range, as well as momentary CO2 emissions. In the center of the instruments - equally easy for driver and front passenger to see and control - an 7-inch monitor shows the way that future human-machine interfaces will look and operate. Here all conceivable functions can be controlled via the mentioned touchscreen, which also reacts via proximity sensor to gestures, i.e. specific hand movements. Menuing was restocked and reorganized so that people without computer science educations would be able to operate the system. The developers intentionally separated "display" and "control" levels from one another. Always shown on the screen is a control bar with standard functions such as climate control or audio volume control. Developers packaged functions of other higher-order systems - navigation, telephone, radio, images, movies, etc. - on a display level that has been referred to internally as the "main menu carousel" - a type of virtual carousel. It consists of the icons of different system functions (telephone, navigation, etc.). When the user touches the "main menu carousel" it can be rotated by touchscreen. Visually, this control is just as spectacular as it is intuitive.

1000+ images about Utah VW Car Shows on Pinterest - Utah ...Better yet, get a Polo and save yourself even more on insurance. 1.4 and 1.6 refer to the engine size. The numbers are the capacity of the engine's combustion chambers, measured in litres. A 1.6 litre engine will suck in more fuel for each complete revolution than a 1.4 litre engine. This means that it will generate more power per revolution. This makes some very real differences between the two types of engine. There is not a huge amount of difference between the 1.4 and 1.6 engines at top speed. Both will go fast enough for you to lose your licence at one offence (that is, you can go more than 100mph with either engine, and that is an immediate disqualification offence). The 1.6 engine will make the car accelerate faster if that's important to you. But honestly, unless you're a "flash git" who likes to burn (expensive) tyre rubber, a couple of seconds difference on the 0-60mph times isn't important.

If you are on a long journey at motorway speeds (60 - 80 mph) then the 1.6 engine will be quieter and smoother because it's not working as hard as the 1.4 to maintain the speed. Although both engines will happily take you hundreds of miles at 70 mph the car with the smaller engine will deliver you feeling more fatigued (mostly 'cos of noise) than the bigger one. The 1.4 engined car will be considerably cheaper to own than the 1.6 engined car. It will use less petrol and produce less emissions (so the car tax band will be lower) and the insurance will be a lot less. As an 18 year old your insurance will be very high anyway, so you must consider whether the perceived "benefits" of a 1.6 engine are worth the extra premium costs. Try phoning a couple of insurance companies (or do an on-line quote) to compare the cost to you for each type of car. There's not enough difference between the two engines for it to influence your decision.

You're buying a car that's nearly 10 years old, so buy on condition alone, and never mind what engine it's got. You need to get the insurance quote before you purchase the car. Most Insurance companies work on registration numbers so look at available cars in the classified ads and quote a registration number from a suitable car telling the insurers you are interested in buying that particular car. I have a feeling that any quote you do get will be prohibitive because of your age, you may be better lowering your sights to a car in a lower insurance group. Will regular gas damage the catalytic converter of my 2006 beetle? If you are talking about regular unleaded gas, then you will not have any problem with your catalytic converter. If you are talking about regular leaded, which I doubt because it has not been available in the U.S.

New Volkswagen Arteon Wants To Lure You Into Four-Door Coupe Ownership

The brand new Volkswagen Arteon is a fashionable four-door coupe that wants to build on the success of the CC. Consider it as a more premium (Euro-spec) Passat with a trendy design highlighted by the large grille, clamshell hood and, clearly, the sloping roofline. In comparison with its predecessor, the Arteon is barely 2 inches (50 mm) longer, however the wheelbase has been increased by 5 inches (127 mm), which has freed up extra legroom for rear passengers. Cargo house has almost doubled and users can haul some voluminous stuff in there, whereas the liftgate enhances practicality. In spite of not being out there with a V6, RoadShow, which had a go within the Arteon SEL Premium, mentioned that the engine gives good total performance. On the go, the automobile is comfy and quiet, and the adaptive chassis management has earned it further points with the reviewer, as have the larger 12.3-inch infotainment system (normal is 8-in) and digital instrument cluster. The Arteon goes in opposition to vehicles such as the Kia Stinger and Nissan Maxima, as nicely as the (more upmarket) Audi A5 Sportback. That’s some very severe competition, so could it's a sensible selection in this sporty area of interest? ’t require any popcorn marking.

What's the Volkswagen Coming/Leaving Home characteristic? Many people know our paths to and from the automotive fairly properly, and with the sun setting later and later on daily basis, it could changing into much less of a problem to require extra lighting. Still for those who come residence late, it’s good to have a little bit of further assist discovering our ways to the door after we depart our home. You never know what a toy will unexpectedly discover its approach into your path by the time you come dwelling from work, proper? As all the time, some options aren’t as often advertised as others. If you’ve heard of the Volkswagen Coming/Leaving Home characteristic however haven’t had it defined, you could also be wondering what it's and which automobiles it is available in. What does Coming/Leaving Home do? Select autos, such as the 2016 Volkswagen Passat, have the approaching and Leaving Home operate as a part of their computerized headlights.

This system is just one additional function that gives an govt really feel for models by lighting your path to and out of your automobile. What happens is every time you leave your car the lights in the mirrors, the dipped-beam headlights, the tailgate lights and the license plate lighting keep on for a short interval after which swap off robotically. This allows you to see the technique to your doorway when it’s darkish outdoors. The Leaving Home counterpart works by turning on the lights when you use the key fob to unlock your doorways, but it surely in any other case works in the identical method. If this operate appears easy, it really is, however it’s also handy for many who don’t walk round with a flashlight keychain. Many cars nonetheless lack computerized headlights, that are handy for conditions we regularly don’t consider, like overcast or rainy days. Using your headlights makes you more visible to other drivers, while also lighting the way in which for you. More on VW features: Which car security features are required? We hope you found this submit useful too. In that case, please check again here at the new Century Volkswagen Blog for more on particular VW options.

The Volkswagen Phaeton was the answer to a query nobody asked. It quietly debuted as the flagship VW sedan however got here with the value of a effectively-outfitted 7 Series. The Phaeton died an uneventful dying after it turned obvious that govt-degree buyers desire executive-level brands. 80,000 and stare at a Volkswagen brand. Has Volkswagen discovered from the error of its methods? The German automaker has unveiled another premium automotive, this one with a not-fairly-as-unpronounceable title and, we hope, a much lower price. The Volkswagen Arteon will sit atop VW’s product line. Start with the identify - a portmanteau of “art” and “eon,” the suffix that now signifies all excessive-finish luxury fashions within the Volkswagen model worldwide. The Arteon’s integrated grille, LED headlamps and daytime operating lights with chrome trim that connects all three elements presents the new “face” of the Volkswagen model. In comparison with the outgoing CC, the Arteon is longer and wider, while its fastback profile allows for a real hatchback trunk. It’s also house environment friendly, with up to fifty five cubic ft of cargo house when the rear seats are folded down.

LED taillights and 20-inch wheels mixed with a shoulder line that runs the size of the physique construct the Arteon’s sporty nature. In brief, VW believes the Arteon will be everything premium consumers need, except it once more forgot that premium buyers despatched a very clear message that they don’t want a premium-priced Volkswagen. More on that in a second. Volkswagen hasn’t confirmed which engines might be accessible in U.S.-sure Arteons, however American-spec cars may get VW’s 276-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder as an choice and a 188-hp TSI 2.0-liter four because the entry-level engine. European markets will get a alternative of six engines and a 6- or 7-speed computerized transmission. Be assured those of us on this facet of the Atlantic won’t have such different selections in motors. Whether or not the Arteon succeeds is almost entirely dependent on its worth. If it is available in anyplace near the price of the Phaeton, don’t get too connected. If it’s comparable with the CC, the Arteon may stick round for some time.
