The 2019 VW Jetta is all new and finally based on the VW Group's MQB modular architecture, and features a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a redesigned cabin, and all-new looks. For 2019, the Jetta is longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing model. The wheelbase grows from 104.4 inches to 105.7 inches, while the overhangs shrink to even out the proportions. Power comes exclusively from a 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI inline-four cylinder gas engine, sending 147 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels via a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. A start/stop feature is standard on automatic models. The interior is completely new, with a driver-focused cockpit and plenty of soft touch materials. Available interior options include 10-color customizable ambient lighting, heated and ventilated seats, a power driver's seat, a 400-watt BeatsAudio system, and dual-zone climate control. Jetta SEL and SEL Premium models will feature a customizable in-dashboard digital display standard, with the ability to show navigation directions. Also available is VW's "Car-Net" infotainment upgrade, which gives buyers a collection of connected vehicles services, including smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. A back-up camera is standard, while other safety features such as forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, bling spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, high beam control, and lane departure warning are optional. Volkswagen expects to begin deliveries of the 2019 Jetta in the second quarter of 2018. Additionally, an R-Line trim is expected to join the lineup at launch. This trim will feature more aggressive styling, a sportier interior, R-Line badging, and Volkswagen's XDS brake-controlled torque vectoring system.
