We can't blame you if you fall into that camp. After driving the 2019 Jetta, we found many things worth knowing. Six are presented here. 19,400, the base Jetta S is a decent value. 8,000 is hardly chump change, but it buys a lot more car. Even if you can't see it, the Jetta's switch to VW's modular architecture means it's far more rigid than the outgoing model. That big step forward is offset slightly by its downgraded rear suspension, a low-tech torsion-bar setup that means the Jetta lacks the handling poise of the delightful Golf. Moreover, the American-market Golf's 1.8-liter turbo-4 has been shelved in favor of a frugal, tame 1.4-liter turbo-4 that puts out a modest 147 horsepower.

To celebrate, VW sourced a clean first-generation model (Mk1, or "mark one" to VW fans) from a private owner in New Jersey and commissioned an extensive restoration. The green-over-tan 1982 Jetta, undoubtedly the finest extant, will be paraded around for the next year or so to promote the new Mk7 Jetta. It's a hoot to see how far the nameplate has come from its barely post-Beetle days. The '82 is delightfully spartan 鈥?aside from its decadent chrome hubcaps. The 2019 Jetta is no thrill machine, that's for sure. However, VW says its next Jetta GLI will be even more like its zippy Golf GTI. We don't know when it'll hit showrooms, but the automaker did promise us some nice bits: a 2.0-liter turbo-4, a multi-link rear suspension, 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions, and a trick front differential to split power between the wheels. The Jetta R-Line gets an electronic front differential, too, but VW suggests that it will be tuned differently in the GLI.

Eos, which is the mythological Greek goddess of the dawn and the wind, is also the name affixed to one of the most beautiful models designed by German automaker Volkswagen. 2 cabriolet, the Eos shares the same mechanical underpinnings of the Passat, but has its own body panels and is sized closer to the Golf and the Jetta. First introduced in 2006, the Eos replaced the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet which had served as Volkswagen's entry level convertible model for more than two decades. That earlier model will be returning to Volkswagen in 2010 and will be slotted below the Eos, but just above the New Beetle Cabriolet.
