2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Better Value Than Golf GTI

Unlike the previous model, the new Jetta GLI will receive the same upgrades as the Golf GTI. As one of the most iconic hatchbacks of all time, the Volkswagen Golf GTI needs no introduction. Earlier this month, the all-new Volkswagen Jetta GLI arrived at the Chicago Auto Show. While pricing is still being kept under wraps, VW Product Developer Adam Reinhardt believes the 2019 Jetta GLI will offer significantly better value than the Golf GTI. So we're very excited about that. 27,595 excluding the destination charge. Unlike the previous generation GLI, the new model will receive all the upgrades found on its GTI cousin. It packs the GTI鈥檚 228-hp engine, an independent rear suspension, Golf R brakes, and Volkswagen's VAQ limited-slip differential, so it should be just as fun to drive as the Golf GTI. Other sporty styling cues include a lower ride height, black honeycomb grille with a distinctive red accent line that harkens to the GTI, sleek 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and red brake calipers. It鈥檚 safer and more technologically advanced than previous model too, with standard driver assists including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.

Seats were manual with a pump handle on the side to adjust height. Sadly there was no adjustable lumbar support (another concern for long drives) yet the front seats had three levels of heating. The dash is simple and the steering wheel a sporty D-shaped model to reflect the R-Line鈥檚 performance emphasis. I also liked the info screen, which is 6.5 inches. A larger screen would be nice, but it was easy to tune and use while driving, including channel select buttons on the screen. That said, the screen is not sensitive enough to engage while wearing gloves. Overhead the sun visors slide and there鈥檚 a sunroof too, but with a mesh shade. Solid shades are better in summer to keep out heat and extraneous light. Other interior pluses included a manual tilt/telescope steering wheel with cruise control, trip computer controls and other functions on the hub. As a value-oriented model, the cruise is standard and not a smart system that adjusts to traffic flow.

The Jetta does include power mirrors and an inside trunk release, and the rear seats split and fold down to boost cargo space, which already is generous for a small sedan. A Beats audio system is standard on the R-Line, as is a unique grille and black exterior mirrors to help distinguish it from other Jetta trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also come on all Jetta trims, so you can plug in your phone for music or navigation. 24,140 you can land a car that鈥檚 fun to drive, has fine gas mileage, has room for four adults and a trunk big enough to handle a trip鈥檚 luggage. Give it a test drive. This may be one of the most underrated car bargains on the road. Hits: Nimble handling, good power and handsome exterior. Quiet interior, simple dash layout, good info screen, heated seats, D-shaped steering wheel, sunroof, plus solid safety equipment. Misses: Firm ride and firm vinyl-feel seats, manually adjusted and no adjustable lumbar support. Mesh instead of solid sunroof shade.

It is based upon the 7th-technology Jetta that which was revealed for the 2019 model year and merely like its precursor, it trips on underpinnings loaned from the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Much more intense than ever before design-sensible, the 2020 Jetta GLI is also the strongest GLI actually developed. Operated by a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, it arrives with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. For the first time at any time, the Jetta GLI will come near to the Subaru WRX, though it continues to does not provide an all-wheel-drive system. Discover more about the new Jetta GLI in the review listed below. The new GLI is fundamentally a somewhat sportier edition of the normal Jetta. It features the very same large grille and sporty front side fender but mixes design cues observed on the Golf GTI. The GLI鈥檚 account appears instead universal although. Outdoors the "GLI" badge on the entrance fender and the 18-inch, aluminum-alloy tires that are limited to this car, the GLI continues to be just like the regular Jetta.
