Volkswagen To Launch Das WeltAuto Official Pre-owned Arm In Malaysia

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is set to launch an official pre-owned business in Q3 2019. Named Das WeltAuto, the arm aims to offer quality pre-owned vehicles with some degree of peace of mind. This was revealed at a media roundtable held in KL today, along with confirmation that the VW Arteon and Passat facelift are coming this year. The peace of mind comes in the form of a 12-month warranty. Cars sold by Das WeltAuto would have gone through a 133-point check, too. 鈥淩est assured, only cars that pass our stringent evaluation, with a clean, accident-free record, are approved for sale,鈥?says VPCM in a banner ad for Das WeltAuto. In other news, one can now buy a Volkswagen in Malaysia directly from Volkswagen AG. Somewhat. Porsche Holding Salzburg (PHS) - the largest car distributor in Europe and the entity that controls VPCM - has itself entered the retail market in Malaysia with the opening of PHS Autohaus in Puchong. In 2011, the Porsche family sold PHS to Volkswagen AG, which now fully owns the retail arm. PHS sold 743,016 new cars in 2018, employs over 30,000 staff worldwide and had a revenue of 20.4 billion euros last year.

Those who have been reading my ramblings so far will note that I am in my opinion one of those who does not like a lot of cars, including the VW GTI and the Suzy Swift Sport. Why you may ask? Well, the GTI is too big for its own good compared to the 1st and 2nd gen GTI and that is all the reason you need. It may be fast and all but it鈥檚 a van in hot hatch clothing. Why buy a van if you don鈥檛 need to? The Suzy Sport has a rubbery electrically powered steering which I don鈥檛 like and those motor journalists are all wrong. It 100% does not feel like a hot hatch of the ol鈥?skool. It has a driving position akin to a mini MPV i.e. tall and no low slung like those ol鈥?skool Honda civics from the late 80s and early 90s. I mean, what memories did it bring those journalists? Did they spend their teens driving around in 1st generation Renault Espaces and Toyota Estimas?
