VW鈥檚 Golf GTI TCR Concept

VW鈥檚 Golf GTI TCR Concept

The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR is a concept car inspired by a race car that鈥檚 based on a production car. The production car is the Golf GTI, which we鈥檝e known and loved for ages. 110,000. Now comes a concept that takes inspiration from the racer to amp up the street car. And it鈥檚 a concept that is headed for production, completing the circle. The heart of the Golf GTI TCR is its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, which has been tuned to make 286 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. All this oomph is channeled to the front axle by way of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A limited-slip differential ensures power is properly apportioned between the two wheels, and top speed rises to 164 mph thanks to the removal of the governor. Accompanying the TCR concept鈥檚 additional under-hood upgrades are beefier brakes and adaptive dampers. Performance is only one part of the GTI TCR equation, as Volkswagen fits the hatchback with a new front fascia that pushes air into the two-door Golf鈥檚 two extra radiators. Side skirts, a racy rear diffuser, honeycomb-style markings on the doors and side panels, and model-specific 18- or 19-inch wheels complete the concept鈥檚 look. A red-and-black motif marks the interior of the TCR as something more special than the typical GTI. Volkswagen GTI Research: Reviews, Specs, Pricing, and More! The Golf GTI TCR concept is currently considered a 鈥渟tudy鈥?by Volkswagen. Nevertheless, the German automaker says it plans to start selling the model by the end of the year. The news for U.S. GTI fans is less exciting, however, as Volkswagen tells us the model won鈥檛 make it to our shores.

Welcome to Critic's Notebook, a quick and off-the-cuff car review consisting of impressions, jottings, and marginalia regarding whatever The Drive writers happen to be driving. Today's edition: the 2018 VW Golf GTI Autobahn. Quick Take: The VW Golf GTI Autobahn continues to prove why the Golf is one of the most desired daily drivers鈥攊t's attractive, sporty, and the ideal size, especially for city use. One Big Question: Is the Golf GTI Autobahn worth my time? It isn't a crossover. I see what you're saying; after all, crossovers are the way to go these days for many people. Sedans and hatches are dying breeds; just look at with Ford planning to remove the Focus ST and Focus RS from the U.S. But there's a real case to be made that the Golf GTI could be the "perfect" vehicle, especially for a buyer without a large family. The GTI isn't like any other hot hatch on the road; for one thing, it has a timeless, extremely recognizable design, that has only gone through a few modernizing changes as it ages. What the GTI might lack in crossover-like storage space (although it does have 53.7 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down), it makes up for in fun. Zipping through the backroads of Connecticut while blasting through the gears of the dual clutch automatic transmission brought more smiles to my face than I could count. The GTI is a prime example of why hot hatches don't deserve to die yet.

1,600 more affordable than the base 2019 Golf GTI. That鈥檚 a pretty good deal considering the Jetta GLI is actually a Golf GTI underneath. The Jetta GLI will be available in two regular trim levels (S and Autobahn), as well as a 35th Anniversary Edition. Furthermore, the DCC adaptive damping system comes standard and adds a fifth 鈥淐omfort鈥?mode. 29,195 and adds plenty of goodies compared to the S trim level. All Jetta GLI models come with a standard six-speed manual transmission. 800. Regardless of transmission choice, EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Jetta GLI is 25/32/28 mpg (city/highway/combined). Both transmissions work with a 2.0-liter TSI engine that delivers 228 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Compared to the regular Jetta, the GLI adds a 0.6-in (15-mm) lower sports suspension with a multi-link rear setup, larger front brakes, VAQ torque-sensing limited-slip differential, variable ratio electric power-assisted steering, and Driving Mode Selection.

A lunatic driver castrated himself after crashing his car at almost twice the speed limit. Nicholas St Clair, 27, from west Hull, pulled out a tree branch which had pierced his groin in the smash and found his testicles dangling from it, a court heard. The violent criminal will now never be able to have a proper sexual relationship and will never have children. St Clair had sped off at 57mph - nearly twice the speed limit - in his Volkswagen Golf GTi, with passengers, after crashing into a Ford Mondeo near a pub in South Ferriby, near Hull, East Yorkshire. He then hit another car, a Seat Ibiza, travelling in the opposite direction, while attempting an overtake likened to a 'a Formula 1 manoeuvre', before ploughing into a lamppost, which flipped the Golf. A branch smashed through the windscreen and through the gaps in the steering wheel, embedding itself in St Clair鈥檚 groin. He then passed out again and was taken to hospital. St Clair was jailed for three years last February for blackmail.

He had taken his friend hostage and attacked him with a baseball bat in west Hull. He was released on licence to a bail hostel in Scunthorpe, where he had a job as a mechanic and had to sign on each day. He was rushing to avoid breaching bail conditions when the crashes happened on the A1077 on March 27, Grimsby Crown Court heard. Sentencing St Clair to eight months in prison, Judge Paul Watson QC, told him: 'You were driving like a lunatic. You were driving at an excessively fast speed on country roads and driving on the wrong side of the road. It is not only merciful, it is miraculous that no one was fatally injured. St Clair was also banned from driving for 18 months, after which he must take an extended re-test. He is now unable to ever have children or a full sexual relationship. He also suffered a cut to his forehead, which required 20 stitches, lost a tooth and had heavy bleeding in his groin. His passenger escaped with minor injuries.
