Moment 鈥榠diot鈥?Driver鈥檚 Illegal Overtake Almost Causes Road Accident
A reckless driver has been filmed crossing double white lines and overtaking another car along a narrow road in an unbelievably reckless manoeuvre. The video was uploaded to Facebook showing the illegal move on a busy section of the Heathcote Road, south of Sydney, in NSW. A grey Volkswagen Tiguan can be seen overtaking a A red Isuzu ute on along the crowded and narrow road. Dashcam footage shows the Volkswagen overtake the car forcing cars to swerve to avoid a crash. People commenting on the video were furious with the driver of the Volkswagen. No wonder why there are so many fatalities on that road,' a person said. 鈥檚 just stupidity at its highest,' they said. A former truck driver also said he wasn't surprised at the dangerous behaviour. There sure are some bloody idiots out there. Back in the day when I drove trucks I lost count of the number of times I was overtaken by a car on the bridge on Heathcote Road because they didn't want to follow me up the hill,' he said. The crash sparked an outcry from the community and calls to reduce the speed limit near the Healthcote and New Illawarra Road intersection, according to The Leader. NSW Police said they were not aware of the illegal overtake incident but that they were now in possession of the video. They noted that the driver appears to be overtaking on double lines and not overtaking when it is safe to do so, committing two offences at once.
Those drivers used to a more traditional automatic gearbox should approach this gearing system with an open mind. The DSG transmission is, in essence, an automated manual gearbox that is highly sophisticated. Some users have reported that this gearbox is not as smooth as a conventional automatic gearbox when accelerating from rest. However, once drivers get used to it, the DSG gearbox is nice and smooth in operation. Volkswagen India made inroads into the hot hatchback segment with the powerful derivative of Polo dubbed GTI. Sourcing power from the 1.8 litre, TSI petrol engine, it gets the familiar 7-speed DSG transmission. Visual upgrades made to the three-door hatchback are in line with its sporty character. Spruced up cabin packs a decked dashboard finished in black and red stitching around the leather wrapped steering accentuates the sporty look. The high priced hot hatchbacks are essentially a tweaked version of the regular model with design upgrades inside out and a powerful engine pouncing it on the road. As for the new Volkswagen Polo GTI, India gets the three-door version priced at Rs 25.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane). Coming to the engine, the GTI plonks a 1.8 litre, TSI petrol unit producing 189bhp paired to VW鈥檚 7-speed DSG gearbox. Changes made to the exterior are restricted to addition of new elements such as LED headlamps, a new honeycomb grille in front and an integrated rear spoiler among others. Inside, it gets new upholstery, a modish design for the dashboard and some new features. On the outside, it gets LED headlamps, new honey-comb mesh grille in front and a different set of bumpers. Other additions made to the hot hatch are an integrated rear spoiler, 16 inch alloy wheels, dual tip exhaust set-up, red FRI accents and GTI badges. To match the sporty stance, Volkswagen have introduced few design elements on the inside such as a black finished dashboard, leather wrapped multi-functional steering wheel with red stitching and new seat covers. The hot hatchback benefits from infotainment features including radio-composition media, 6-speakers, mobile phone interface, Aux-in, USB-port and Bluetooth connectivity, SMS viewer and phonebook sync. It gets disc brakes at front and rear axle with callipers coloured in bright red. The modified suspension set up comprising wider track and stiffer anti-roll bars has reduced the body-roll. Volkswagen Polo GTI gets electronic stability control with driver steering recommendation, ABS, ASR, EDL and EDTC.
They say that in life the only two things that are certain are death and taxes. Well, for the past 45 years, so was the Volkswagen Golf, the humble family car that has been an icon in its own right, and the continued success of which has inspired many imitators. To date, over 35 million Golfs have been produced, making it the most successful European vehicle ever. To put that into perspective, that is an average of 780,000 vehicles sold each year, meaning that somewhere in the world, a Golf has been bought every 41 seconds, without interruption, since the start of production. That was on March 29, 1974, when the first front-engined, water-cooled Golf rolled off the Wolfsburg production line to replace the rear-engined, air-cooled Beetle. Sporting sharp Giugiaro-penned lines, it was named not after the game or the Gulf Stream as originally thought, but a horse owned by then-Volkswagen head purchaser Hans-Joachim Zimmermann. It wore different names in other countries, including Rabbit in the United States and Caribe in Mexico, the latter being a Venezuelan term for a piranha. Since then, several variants have been produced, including cabriolet, Sportsvan MPV, electric e-Golf and plug-in hybrid GTE versions.
There鈥檚 also been a number of memorable special editions over the years, including three built in collaboration with Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi. These featured unique alloy wheels, special stickers on the rear flanks and even headrest embroidered with the bands鈥?names. The most famous variant is the GTI, which gets chassis upgrades and more powerful engines - up to 230 PS in the latest Mk7.5. But the crowning jewel of the lineup is the R, which pairs an even more powerful 290 PS engine with the security of all-wheel drive. Both the GTI and R were skunkworks projects that were not originally meant for series production, until overwhelming public response changed their fates. The Golf is available in Malaysia in 1.4 TSI R-Line trim, priced at RM174,110 on-the-road without insurance. Forty-five years, seven generations and 35 million customers - quite an impressive set of numbers, then. Happy birthday, Golf, and here鈥檚 to several more years of success.
