Volkswagen Opens Order Books For The ID.3 All-electric Car

Volkswagen Opens Order Books For The ID.3 All-electric Car

Volkswagen has confirmed the first model to be released as part of its new ID range of electric cars, and it's called the ID.3. The Golf-sized hatchback is already available for pre-order in the UK as the German brand takes a step closer to overhauling its model line-up with zero-emission cars. While the first-to-arrive launch edition models will have a price tag of around 拢40,000, the manufacturer states that the cheapest variant will cost less than 鈧?0,000 (拢26,000). Three images of what the ID.3 will look like have been released, though with the car cloaked in a psychedelic camouflage to mask its body. First edition variants will have a range of 260 miles, based on the latest WLTP test, and come with 110kW fast charging as standard. A dedicated microsite was launched this week to take order for the new car, though only the first edition vehicles that will come at a fairly hefty premium.

Deliveries aren't expected to arrive until summer 2020, but customers can already get their name down for the earliest examples with a 拢750 deposit. Those who have put their money down will be contacted by Volkswagen in the coming weeks to confirm their intentions to buy one. Volkswagen has been forthcoming with what will be in store for customers, listing a raft of equipment that will see it hit equipment levels on par with the latest Golf. This includes satellite navigation with voice control as standard, LED matrix headlights and two-tone paint with a contrast roof colour. The ID.3 is a VW Golf-sized family hatchback with five doors. Those willing to show some patience will be rewarded with more affordable versions of VW's pioneering ID.3. Three different battery sizes are expected to be made available, each with varying ranges under WLTP test standards. The cheapest of the range will provide 205 miles of claimed range between charges, with higher-specification variants getting increased 261-mile and what is expected to be market-leading 342-mile ranges.

Prices haven't been confirmed, though Volkswagen reiterated the intention for the most affordable to have a 'starting price of under 鈧?0,000 in Germany' - which is around 拢26,000 in the UK. The German car brand, which will hope the ID range will help repair its reputation following the Dieselgate emissions scandal in 2015, said the ID.3 signals the 'potential for expansion into bigger and smaller models' in the zero-emissions line-up. That opens the door for a dinkier ID.1 and supermini-size SUV ID.2, as well as a range of larger cars to suit bigger families. Volkswagen has big intentions for the ID.3. In the official announcement it said: 'Pre-booking is being offered in 29 European markets. The most important markets in Europe for the ID.3 will be Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Austria. The car maker has yet to confirm how many of the 30,000 first edition ID.3s will be allocated to the UK.
