This is a genuine Rally motorsport vehicle, like the one that was still touring South America in the Dakar Rally two weeks ago and was built to withstand the toughest rally race in the world. The vehicle now being shown in Qatar is a version of the Race Touareg 3 - an SUV that can sprint to 100 km/h in less than six seconds - that is legally approved for use on public roadways. The just over two metre wide body was slightly modified for road use. Instead of 16-inch wheels, new 18-inch wheels from BBS with a gold look are being used. The "Race Touareg" signature - also in a golden colour - stretches the entire length of the vehicle's sides. In turn, it is perfectly coordinated with the exterior paint in "Magic Morning," a white that has a slight gold shimmer to it. BMW X5 Recall Information

DETROIT NEWS -- November 1, 2011 - BMW AG said Saturday it is recalling 32,000 vehicles to replace potentially faulty electric auxiliary water pumps that can overheat and cause a vehicle fire. The recall comes after BMW found at least 102 cases of pump failures worldwide — including two engine-compartment fires. BMW said it is unaware of any crashes or injuries as a result of the condition. The auxiliary pump helps cool the turbocharger during some driving conditions and in some cases can fail, causing the circuit board to overheat. That could lead to a fire. BMW said in most cases drivers will be alerted by a warning message on the instrumental cluster during driving. BMW first discovered the issue in June 2009 on test vehicles. In April 2010, a smoldered electrical cable of the water pump was found on a BMW-owned vehicle. The company set up a task force in May 2010 after two customer vehicles reported burned engine compartments. Dealers will replace the electric auxiliary water pump and will be notified next month.

Owners will be notified starting next month as well. OCTOBER 2010 -- BMW is recalling certain model year 2008 X5 SAVs vehicles with 6-cylinder engines manufactured from November 1, 2007 through August 31, 2008. Due to a manufacturing process fault, the fuel pump was not produced to specifications. Under specific vehicle operating conditions, the fuel pump's commutator could experience an increase in wear. This wear could lead to fuel pump malfunction and engine stalling. Engine stalling could create a potential for a crash resulting in injury or death. The manufacturer has not yet provided a remedy or an owner notification schedule for this campaign. YAHOO NEWS -- October 27, 2010 - BMW of North America announced a recall Tuesday of more than 150,000 vehicles because of potential problems with their fuel pumps. BMW said the problem is specific to vehicles with twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines with the High Pressure Injection direct fuel injection system.

The high-pressure fuel pumps for these vehicles run the risk of failure, BMW said. BMW said a recall of 130,000 vehicles extends to 335i models from 2007 to 2010, as well as the following models from 2008 to 2010: 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes. About 40,000 of the 130,000 vehicles are expected to need a new high pressure fuel pump, the company said. BMW also announced a separate recall of about 20,800 MY 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles. These vehicles will also need a new low-pressure fuel pump, the company said. JULY 2009 -- BMW is recalling MY 2009 X5 and X6 vehicles. The rear brake discs may not have been manufactured according to specifications. As a result, a reduction in braking performance at the affected rear wheel could occur. In an extreme case, the affected rear brake disc could break resulting in a loss of braking at that wheel increasing stopping distances and the risk of a crash.

BMW will notify owners and will repair the vehicles by inspecting the rear brake discs and, if necessary, replace them free of charge. The recalled BMWs include the 2004 to 2005 5-Series standard and sport seat models, the 2004 to 2006 X3 and the 2006 3-Series with sport seats. NHTSA reported on its Web site that the passenger-side airbags can deactivate because of wear associated with a passenger getting in and out of the vehicle. BMW dealers will repair the sensor system in the passenger seat when the recall begins in late September. BMW will extend the warranty for airbags on the recalled vehicles "to 10 years from the first registration without any mileage limit," according to NHTSA. The warranty extension covers the 2006 6-Series, 3-Series with a standard seat, 2004 to 2005 Z4, 2004 to 2006 7-Series, 2006 X5 and 2004 to 2006 5-Series with a comfort seat. NHTSA advises on its Web site. The models included in the initial investigation were the 2004 to 2006 BMW 5 and 7 series sedans, Z4 convertibles and X3 SUVs, as well as 2006 BMW 3 and 6 series cars and X5 SUVs. NHTSA reported "729 non-duplicating owner reports and 23,739 non-duplicating warranty claims" prompted the investigation or engineering analysis. In conditions of below freezing temperatures combined with low humidity, it is possible for electrostatic discharge to occur at the fuel rails. If this were to occur, the engine electronic control unit (ECU) could be affected resulting in engine stalling. The 2016 Volkswagen e-Golf is VW's first all-electric car to be sold in North America—and you have to look twice to realize that it's operated by battery and electric motor, rather than using a gasoline or diesel engine. It's all but indistinguishable from any other seventh-generation Golf, and that decisively separates it from the Nissan Leaf, by far the highest volume electric car ever. The e-Golf competes directly against the Leaf—at least in those markets where both cars are sold. Other all-electric five-door compact hatchbacks include the Ford Focus Electric, the BMW i3, and the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive. Until this year, the e-Golf pretty much duplicated the technical specifications of the Leaf. But with the 2016 Leaf now available with 107 miles of range—up from 84 miles last year—the e-Golf's 83 miles is suddenly less competitive. Volkswagen designed its latest Golf hatchback for an electric powertrain from the start, and the integration is seamless.

It's almost possible that a driver not attuned to such things wouldn't notice that an e-Golf had no engine—except, of course, that it's smoother, quieter, and somewhat heavier on the road than its gasoline and diesel counterparts. The 2016 e-Golf's design, both in exterior styling and the cabin decor is—well, it's a Golf. It is a conservatively styled, crisp-edged five-door hatchback that is clearly a descendant of the first Golf/Rabbit that hit U.S. The inside is sensible, straightforward, and virtually identical to any other Golf—and this generation now offers an in-dash touchscreen display for the first time. Its 24.2-kwh lithium-ion battery pack powers an 85-kw (114-horsepower) electric motor driving the front wheels. Like the Leaf, VW does not actively heat or cool its pack; it sheds heat only by radiating it into the surrounding air. The EPA rates the car at 83 miles of range and 116 MPGe, a measure of the distance an electric car can travel on the amount of energy contained in 1 gallon of gasoline.

One additional electric-car specification: All e-Golfs can charge at up to 7.2 kw, meaning they'll finish recharging a little quicker than those with 6.6-kw chargers. VW also offers DC quick-charging, which can recharge a battery to about 80 percent of capacity in about 30 minutes. But the e-Golf uses the much less prevalent Combined Charging System (CCS) standard—so e-Golf drivers are advised to get familiar with mobile-phone apps such as PlugShare to find out exactly where they can fast-charge. As of this year, it's largely limited to California, Oregon, Washington, Texas, and some Northeastern states. Behind the wheel, the e-Golf offers the same roadholding and handling as the four-cylinder Golf models, though the suspension has been retuned for the added weight of the battery pack. But with that weight largely at the car's lowest point, the e-Golf corners flat and feels very stable under any circumstance. VW's electric Golf has comfortable front seats, and more rear-compartment space for passengers than before. Its cargo volume is 17 cubic feet, decent for a compact hatchback (but notably lower than the 24 cubic feet of the Leaf).

Build quality in the models we drove was good, and the e-Golf is the only Golf version sold in North America that's still built in Germany, rather than in the expanded Mexican assembly plant that has long built Jetta sedans. Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS has separately rated the e-Golf. 2016, with its highest rating of "Good" on every test and all the requisite electronic safety systems standard or optional. Federal officials have given the Golf five stars overall in crash safety, including a mix for four- and five-star ratings on individual crash tests. For 2016, the VW e-Golf is offered in two trim levels. 6,500 to that price. The base e-Golf SE comes with only a 3.6-kw onboard charger, and dispenses with the DC fast-charging altogether. VW offers both of those capabilities as an extra-cost option on the SE, and they're standard on the SEL. For 2016, both trim levels get Volkswagen's new MIB II infotainment system, although the SE makes do with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, rather than the SEL Premium's 8.0-inch screen. A new Driver Assistance package, including forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and park assist features, is available only on the SEL Premium. At the start of the 2016 model year, the Volkswagen e-Golf was available only in 10 Northeast and West Coast states. VW has said it plans to expand distribution in future.

Your imagination is on overdrive at the National and creative shotmaking is there in abundance. The conditioning is superb. The out and back routing is inspired and easily walkable. The gorgeous vistas are magnificent. If there is a weakness at the National Golf Links of America, I certainly didn't see it on my visit. This is one of the greatest golf courses in the world. I didn't bring my camera out to NGLA just to be safe, as I didn't know what their policy was with respect to pictures. I'd also like to thank Brian Sheehy, another GCA member that I finally had the pleasure of meeting at Dismal River earlier this year. I could probably list about 20 courses I'd love to see in Scotland and any trip there would likely have to be two full weeks in order to see as much as possible. VW debuted its 2017 e-Golf with a slightly refreshed look and a new 35.8 kWh battery pack at the LA Auto Show last year. The all-electric vehicle received its official EPA rating today and it increased the range to a combined highway and city cycle of 125 miles. It’s a decent upgrade from the 83 miles on the 24.2 kWh battery pack of the previous version of the vehicle. The upgrade makes the new e-Golf one of the most efficient all-electric vehicle available with equivalent of 119 MPG on a combined highway and city cycle (126 MPGe on highway and 111 MPGe in the city). The 2017 e-Golf EPA estimates are the best in the Compact Class, as defined by the EPA. The electric motor on the 2017 e-Golf has been upgraded as well. Where the 2016 e-Golf utilized an 85 kWh electric motor developing 115 horsepower, the new 100 kWh electric motor develops 134 horsepower. At the same time, the maximum torque of the electric motor has been boosted from 199 pound-feet to 214 lb-ft. The 2017 e-Golf runs zero to 60 mph faster than its predecessor—now in just 9.6 seconds—and its top speed increases to 93 mph. In addition to these engineering improvements, the 2017 e-Golf is wallet friendly. The 2017 e-Golf goes on sale this Spring. Pricing will be announced closer to market introduction.
