Volkswagen Unveils Pickup Concept

For almost a decade, we've been hearing about Volkswagen's entry into the pickup truck market. It began with the AAC, which turned into the precursor to the Touareg when it reached production. After the AAC, Volkswagen remained largely silent on the topic though the rumours persisted. It wasn't until early this year when Volkswagen decided to publicly announce that a Volkswagen pickup is back on the table. It seems all those Toyota Hilux test mule photos were meant to really distract us from the fact that Volkswagen actually had another Japanese maker in mind. The Concept Pickup, as it is currently called, looks decidedly like the Honda Ridgeline. Good thing or bad, you decide but one thing for sure, it looks miles better than the Ridgeline. The grille to the headlights are all quintessential Volkswagen of late and actually fits the schnoz of the Concept Pickup perfectly. The massive wheel arches and bars alongside the bed are nice touches. The Concept Pickup's design is perhaps one of Volkswagen's best yet. Engine choices are not set in stone yet however expect a mix of gasoline and diesel power plants mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6- or 7-speed DSG. It is important to note that the Concept Pickup is designed to for emerging markets, specifically South America. Whether we see this in North America is unknown (though conventional wisdom dictates that it should do well here). More information should be coming this week.

The BMW ConnectedDrive Office functions allow emails, appointments, contact lists, calendar entries and notes to be shown on the control display. It also includes a dictating function that converts spoken notes into text, which can then be forwarded as an SMS or email message. The BMW Apps option includes a web radio function and offers a customised music programme compiled by the Aupeo! Facebook and Twitter access. New apps are being added to this service all the time. The exclusive driving experience in the new BMW X5 is reflected not only in the luxurious interior but also in the extensive standard specification and wide range of high-end optional extras. The standard equipment list now also includes a two-zone automatic climate control system, a Bluetooth hands-free system, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror and cruise control with braking function. The standard-fitted iDrive operating system can be ordered - in conjunction with the optional Navigation system Professional -with a Touch Controller, whose touch-sensitive surface allows the use of characters to program a destination into the navigation system, for example. The Professional radio is also standard specification. Alternatively, a customised listening experience can be provided by a HiFi loudspeaker system, the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System or the Bang & Olufsen High End Surround Sound System with a 1,200-watt amplifier and 16 speakers. Digital radio (DAB) reception, a TV module and a newly developed rear-seat entertainment system with DVD drive and two tablet-style monitors are also available. The new BMW X5 will be built at BMW's Spartanburg plant in the USA. This production plant in South Carolina is the competence centre for BMW X models and also produces the BMW X6 and BMW X3 - to be joined by the future BMW X4 - for supply to markets throughout the world.

The range of seat cover materials and wood accents has been extended. For example, 'Vienna leather': in addition to 'Titanium Black', Corn Silk Beige' and 'Nature Brown', a fourth colour, 'Bonanza' (dark, reddish brown) is now available. Over and above these four colours, the particularly refined 'Nappa leather' can also be ordered in the likewise new colour of 'St. Tropez' (a light, sandy shade). Also new: the 'Sapelli Mahogany' and 'Engineered Ebony' wood accents. Volkswagen is offering its premium class SUV in a highly sophisticated equipment version and as a special 'Touareg Exclusive' model. There are differentiations between the V6 versions and the even better equipped models with V8 and hybrid drive systems. Furthermore, the Touareg is available with a large array of driver assistance and convenience systems. Many of these systems are included as standard, such as the new Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. As well as via the standard optional extras, the Touareg can be customised very specifically via newly conceived 'R-Line' packages and 'Volkswagen Exclusive' features, which are also new. With its numerous systems for providing driver assistance and added comfort, the Touareg is one of the safest and most comfortable SUVs on the market.

Using four cameras, the Area View assistance system recognises what is around the Touareg, thus providing added safety. Protection is also provided by up to nine airbags. Lane Assist ensures no drifting out of the correct lane, while Side Assist warns when changing lane of any vehicles approaching from behind. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) plus Front Assist inclusive of the City Emergency Braking function brings the Touareg to a stop in an emergency and makes driving in traffic jams easier with the Stop-and-Go assistant. In combination with the RNS 850 radio/navigation system and mobile phone preparation, the Touareg is for the first time available with mobile online services. These will include a 'Point-of-Interest (POI) Search' via Google, map display provided by the 'Google Earth mapping service', the 'Google Street View' function and 'Online Traffic Information'. As with previous models, Volkswagen will also be offering the new Touareg with the especially sporty 'R-Line' feature packages (exterior and interior).

While with the 'R-Line' packages the main focus is on being sporty, with the also new 'Volkswagen Exclusive' features it is on elegance. The Volkswagen R specialists have developed a number of different alloy wheels for the Touareg in the large 19, 20 and 21-inch formats. These are the 19-inch 'Girona' (with bright machined rim flange) and 'Salvador', the 20-inch 'Talladega' (in 'Sterling Silver' or 'Grey Metallic') and 'Tarragona' (in black with bright machined surface) and the 21-inch 'Mallory' (in 'Sterling Silver'). One new standard technological highlight is the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. It automatically slows the vehicle right down if it is involved in an accident in order to significantly reduce its residual kinetic energy. Triggering of the post-collision braking system is based on detection of a primary collision by the airbag sensors. The system's deceleration of the Touareg is limited by the ESC controller to a maximum of 0.6 g.

Volkswagen Touareg 2019-2019 Review (2019)

When Volkswagen’s first Touareg was launched in 2003, it was the outrageously torquey V10 TDI that grabbed the headlines, along with its poor ride quality. The first model sold in huge numbers, reaching over half a million homes worldwide. This Mk2 model, also based on the new Porsche Cayenne, is lighter, roomier and more economical. The secret to the original Touareg's success lay in offering BMW X5 levels of space and performance at a significantly reduced price. And that’s a recipe on which this all-new model seeks to improve. The big news concerning the new Touareg is its weight, which has been reduced by fully 10 percent across the range. At the same time, however, the new Touareg is roomier, more economical, better equipped and, says Volkswagen, better than ever to drive, thanks to its new range of engines and brand new, lightweight steel suspension. The new Touareg model is only available with a 3.0 V6 TDI, which is available in two states of tune and comes complete with an eight-speed auto ’box and BlueMotion Technology pack, both of which are standard across the range. That monstrous V10 TDI was been replaced by a 4.2 V8 TDI, while a petrol hybrid model was also available, but both are now defunct.

Racing Revs Up Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel CrossoverDynamic and wonderful to look at, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet is a real Audi, and an especially exciting one at that. The four-seater with the fabric top combines a sporty character with the fascination of open-top driving, refined comfort, and great everyday utility. Seven powerful engines, an agile suspension and a wide range of high-end options make the new Audi model the most attractive mid-range convertible. The top-of-the-line model of Audi's new family of convertibles is the Audi S5 Cabriolet. The engine of the S5 Cabriolet is the newly developed, supercharged three-liter V6 with gasoline direct injection. Prices start at EUR 37,300 for the 1.8 TFSI with 118 kW (160 hp) and six-speed manual transmission. Like all open-top Audi models, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet too has a classic fabric top - which endows it with a striking silhouette of dynamic elegance. The lightweight softtop opens in 15 seconds - and closes in 17 seconds.

The fully automatic open/close drive comes as standard. An acoustic top is optionally available, which reduces wind noise almost to the hardtop level. When opened, the Audi A5 Cabriolet top folds down so effectively that very little trunk space is used up - leaving 320 liters (11.3 cu ft) of unused storage volume, clearly the best value in its field of competitors. The softtop compartment lowers itself automatically when the top is opened. Equally useful is the fold-down rear seat backrest with the large pass-through between the luggage space and the interior, which increases the storage volume to a generous 750 liters (26.49 cu. Automatic seat belt extenders round out the comfort in the interior. Neck-level heating is optionally available for the front seats. The optional leather seats are coated with a special layer to reduce solar heating. There is comfortable room for four persons. The refined ambiance combines with exemplary ergonomics to convey an atmosphere of sporty elegance. Ultra-high-strength steels and selective reinforcements of the body ensure maximal rigidity and crash safety.

Audi drive select is only available in combination with one or more of three additional technologies - the sport differential, the adaptive control for the shock absorbers, and dynamic steering. This is an additional high-tech solution: Its superposition gear varies the gear ratio as a function of the driving speed by up to 100 percent. The new Audi A5 Cabriolet features a rich array of equipment, including 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, and an audio system with a CD player. One of the highlights among the optional equipment is the third-generation MMI operating system, which provides many attractive navigation and entertainment functions. As the dynamic top-of-the-line model of the new production series, the Audi S5 Cabriolet occupies a very special position. Its three-liter TFSI - a V6 with turbocharger - unfolds its 245 kW (333 hp) and 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft) of torque impressively: It responds tenaciously to the throttle and delivers excellent driving performance.

The quattro drive, a sport suspension with 18-inch wheels and a number of special equipment details underscore the athletic power of the Audi S5 Cabriolet. The Audi A5 Cabriolet combines Audi's progressive styling with the fascination of an open-top car. The long engine hood, the sharp lines, the sweep of the shoulder contour, the elegantly curved surfaces, the large wheels, the distinctive front end, and the expressive tail all interact to create a sculptural, sensuous whole. The Audi A5 Cabriolet is 4.63 meters (15.19 ft) long and 1.85 meters (6.07 ft) wide, but only 1.38 meters (4.53 ft) tall: the sportiest proportions in its class. The styling of the front end is dominated by the single-frame grille, which is flanked by large air intakes. The exquisite design of the headlights makes them look like technical jewels. The daytime running lights of the optional xenon plus headlights consist of LEDs. An aluminum molding lends high gloss to the windshield frame. The looks of the tail end are sharpened by horizontal lines, broad tail lights, straight tailpipes, and a distinctly colored diffuser insert. The trunk lid bears an unobtrusive spoiler lip.

Piech Mark Zero Concept Leaked Ahead Of Geneva Debut

Currently, the market is awash with all-electric start-up car brands, and this Swiss-built GT car could be the latest addition to the flood. Called the Piech Mark Zero, it’s an electric sports car built by a new company fronted by the son of Ferdinand Piech, the former head of Volkswagen. These leaked teaser images preview the car’s design ahead of its launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Full performance specifications for the Mark Zero are yet to be announced. The battery packs are mounted in the car’s transmission tunnel and on the rear axle, which Piech states will provide a driving experience closer to that of an internal combustion-engined car. The Swiss start-up also claims that the Mark Zero’s architecture will be modular, allowing its battery packs and hardware to be replaced as technology advances. Potentially, Piech’s modular architecture could offer buyers a range of powertrains, including internal combustion engines, various hybrid systems and even a fuel-cell driven option. In addition, the Swiss firm plans to make its platform available to other manufacturers. For the next few years, Piech has planned a range of cars, consisting of a two-seat sports car, a four-seat saloon and a sporty SUV, built on the Mark Zero’s underpinnings. Release dates for these upcoming Piech models are yet to be announced.

The Ghibli’s three ground-breaking engines will be fitted into a wheelbase that, at 2998 mm, is 173 mm shorter than the Quattroporte’s wheelbase and an overall length that is, at 4.97 metres, 29cm shorter. It is also 20 mm lower than the Quattroporte but the measurements that cement its visual stance as one of the most aggressive in the E-segment are its front and rear tracks. Its 1635 mm front track is actually a millimetre wider than the Quattroporte’s, while it 1653 mm rear track is six millimetres wider. It is also 50 kg lighter than its larger sibling, with the Ghibli S weighing 1810 kg. It carries a 500-litre luggage capacity, as well as class-leading front legroom. Maserati has continued its long association with Brembo on the new Ghibli and all models feature fixed-caliper braking technology. The brakes on the Ghibli S models are 360 mm x 32 mm ventilated and cross-drilled Dual Cast brake discs and six-piston fixed alloy Brembo calipers on the front axle. It carries over the Quattroporte’s four-piston, fixed alloy Brembo rear brake caliper. Its brake discs continue with the Dual Cast technology pioneered by Maserati.

This technology allows the weight of the cast-iron braking surface area to be offset with an alloy hat to minimise unsprung mass and the Ghibli S utilises this to stop from 100 km/h in just 36 metres. These brakes have a large swept area, highly efficient cooling, are designed for consistent performance in sports driving situations and are oversized for the demands created by even the new Quattroporte’s extremely high performance potential. But high-performance stopping power is only one measure of overall braking performance and the collaboration with Brembo also concentrated on evolving the acoustic comfort of the Ghibli ’s braking systems. As befitting the rest of the Ghibli story, the braking development reconciled the seemingly opposing goals of pure performance and pure comfort. The Ghibli also uses an electronic parking brake, which operates on all four wheels. The ergonomically placed button on the gear lever bezel activates the brake when the car is at rest.

However, it can also act as a safety device when driving. In this case the system communicates with the stability control ECU and decelerates the car at 0.5g in full safety until released. The brakes also operate as part of the Ghibli’s automatic hill starting system. The on-board sensors detect the vehicle's tilt when parked facing uphill, then lock the brakes for a few seconds; this gives the driver’s foot time to move from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal without the vehicle rolling back. Besides being effectively strong, Maserati brake calipers have also always added a significant stylistic effect. This continues with the Ghibli, with the front and rear brake calipers available in the standard classic black form, with the Maserati name in white. These are also available in the aggressively sporting red colour, Maserati blue to lend an air of elegance, luminous silver grey. This allowed Maserati’s suspension engineers to deliver extreme precision combined with the steering sensitivity needed for turning into corners at high speeds.

This More Sporting Attitude Is Interesting

Oprah Winfrey is going out in style by giving each member of her studio audience keys to the as-yet-unseen 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. The promotion is part of Oprah's Ultimate Favorite Things giveaway, in which audience members are lavished with pricey surprise gifts of all descriptions. While VW officials declined to talk in detail about the 2012 Beetle, Browning did confirm that the new model will feature technologies like Bluetooth integration and a touchscreen stereo display, along with branded audio systems and ambient lighting. More importantly, Browning insists that the new model will have a decidedly sportier bent than previous iterations. The 2012 Beetle will feature available performance-minded items like a stiffer suspension, sport seats, 19-inch wheels and dual exhausts. This more sporting attitude is interesting, in part because VW officials have previously indicated that they hope to 'degender' the new model (the New Beetle's image and ownership base has long skewed heavily female). It has been confirmed that not only will VW's TDI engines figure in to the model's plans, but clean diesel technology will even be available in the Cabriolet model. The company's venerable 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine will also be available, but there's no word yet about a dedicated high-performance model or a possible hybrid variant.

Multicollinearity among predictor variables in the theory of reasoned action makes the interpretation of the relative weights in the motel problematic. Since this paper attempts to examine the relative weights in the motel, caveats regarding this problem are warranted. However, in an effort to address the multicollinearity issue, both correlated and uncorrelated motels are tested and, for one set of analyses, an extra-sums-of-squares test is used involving reductions in explained variance when predictors are omitted. Miniard and Cohen (1981) have outlined the theoretical arguments for interdependence among the personal and normative components of the Fishbein and Ajzen model. In fact, it has been proposed that for those interested in distinguishing between personal and normative influences that an alternative model is more appropriate. Innovativeness has been defined as the degree to which an individual makes innovation decisions independently of the communicated experience of others, i.e., information passed verbally between individual consumers (Midgley and Dowling 1978, p.

This hypothesis is similar to the recent proposition of Gatignon and Robertson (1985, p. H1: Subjective norms will exhibit less relative influence on behavioral intentions for innovators than for noninnovators. Crossover effects from normative structure to attitude representing the impact of social influence on affect reflect a susceptibility or general willingness to incorporate or infer social influences on one's attitude structure. Normative information from others signals the direction of the attitudinal norm and implies that others will like the subject for holding an attitude consistent with these norms (Oliver and Bearden .985). H2: Innovators will exhibit a lesser tendency than noninnovators to exhibit crossover effects from normative structure to attitude. As alluded to above, the normative structure component of the theory of reasoned action reflects exclusively beliefs about referent expectations (Miniard and Cohen 1981, p. However, social-influence can be based upon both informational and normative sources. The findings of Berning and Jacoby (1974) suggest that innovators seek information from others. In contrast, the Midgley and Dowling (1978) definition stresses the absence of communicated experiences for innovators (i.e., information).

Given these conflicting perspectives, no formal hypothesis is offered regarding the differential role of informational versus utilitarian influences. However, the relationships between overall subjective norms and both informational and utilitarian (normative) influences will be examined for innovators and noninnovators. Data were collected from 139 undergraduate male and female marketing students. Responses were obtained for nine brands of two products -- toothpaste and luxury automobiles. The products were selected to represent products varying in susceptibility to reference group influence. Consistent with the typologies of Bourne (1957) and Bearden and Etzel (1982), toothpaste and luxury automobiles represent private necessities (PRN) and public luxuries (PUL), respectively. Private necessities are hypothesized to be not susceptible to reference group influence while reference group influence is hypothesized to operate for brand selection decisions among luxury automobiles. The sample was divided equally using a median split into innovators and noninnovators. Responses to the ten seven-place agree-disagree statements comprising the innovativeness factor identified by Raju (1980, p. Aggregate cross-sectional tests of the principle behavioral intention equation of the theory of reasoned action were conducted first for each subsample.

Second, crossover effects from normative structure to attitudes were tested for both innovators and noninnovators. Third ordinary least squares regression was used to estimate the subjective norm equations using utilitarian and informational influences as predictors. The two sets of modal referent groups (Ajzen and Fishbein 1980, p. 15 undergraduate students. The elicitation procedure employed open-ended questions to identify referents most likely to influence toothpaste and luxury automobile purchases. Three referents were found for each product: close friends, family members, and dentist for toothpaste and close family members, friends and relatives, and salesperson for luxury automobiles. All measures were developed in the context of the respondent's next purchase. Two measures of subjective norms (SN) were employed. Respondents provided their attitude toward the act of purchasing (Aact) each brand on three seven-point semantic differential scales labeled good-bat, foolish-wise, and beneficial-harmful. Behavioral intentions (BI) was assessed using a single seven-place item scale labeled likely-unlikely designed to reflect intentions to purchase. The direction of the SN and Aact items were reversed to limit acquiescence bias. Normative beliefs were also assessed using measures similar to those typically employed in tests of the Fishbein extended model.

The bike worked perfectly, and I donated it to charity in exchange for a useful tax deduction. What kind of treasures can you find? There is bound to be some wear and tear on those treasures you are rescuing from the trash heap. Airwheel Intelligent Personal Transportation Walkcar To Turn Around The Issue About Haze And Fog In

The air quality is worryingly serious. Especially in the morning when the people go to work, the air is full of haze and fog. It is rather easy to see it and even smell it. The concentration of haze and fog in the air is on a rise. It even goes to such extent that the health of the people is influenced. The high concentration of haze and fog in the air, in all likelihood, causes some respiratory disease. Thereby the city dweller intensely the haze and fog. They work to appeal for the people and factories to move swiftly to deal with the environmental issue and give the green the environment. Duke, who rides Airwheel electric self-balancing scooter to work, thinks we could mitigate the issue in a sense as an individual by changing our transport. He maintains that Airwheel electric self-balancing scooter powered by electricity will serve a massive help to the air quality in the city. Duke probed into the causes of the poor quality of air in the city. The causes can fall into two categories. The chemistry factories are the biggest cause. The second main cause is our way to transport. In the city, the car is more and more common and increasing in number. When these cars run on the road, they will produces a large amount of exhaust, which poses a serious damage to the quality of air. Duke strongly calls on all people to change their transports, by doing by oneself. He considers Airwheel intelligent self-balancing scooter will relieve the problem of air quality. His one-year-long experience tells that when Airwheel electric scooter runs on the road, it produce no emission into the air. In a sense, it protects the environment and decreases the exhaust. A tiny change might cause a massive improvement in the air quality.

Between those two, I’d having a hard time choosing — I’d need more time with each of them. All three cars drive much smoother than any gasmobile I’ve ever driven, and of course much quieter (which, naturally, is related). The acceleration of all three was very good. Looking at the numbers just now, I noticed that they aren’t particularly impressive in the 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) arena, but there’s something about how effortlessly and smoothly these cars accelerate that really makes it stand out. It feels much more natural, and (in my opinion) nicer. The visualizations and displays where particularly nice in the Leaf. Though, the i3 and the e-Up! I’d have to use the cars for longer to really say more about all of that, though. Naturally, price differences, range differences, and other technical details are important and worthy of consideration. I’ll delve into those factors more in the individual reviews.

This is the bush capital and we are surrounded by native trees and shrubs and the animals come up to the house, on occasions. While we may not have been able to save the wildlife there were a lot of domestic animals that were sacrificed that day, including those at the vet practice which burnt down. People who were nearby and completely unaware of the firestorm approaching us could have made it home in tome to save what they wanted to, including their pets. Instead they lost everything. The only reports of the fire were on the ABC radio or from interstate friends. My brother and a few others rang from Sydney to check on me as they had more knowledge of the fires than I did. We are facing a worsening situation with fire every year as the climate changes. One day the whole of Canberra may burn to the ground, as many other cities are also threatened.

Last year it was Athens that was almost inundated with flame. Spain and Portugal have had their problems as well. So to the west coast of the USA. We can't stop climate change but survival may depend on strategies put in place now before fire approaches. If that had been done Canberra may not have suffered quite as much. We have to fireproof and remove all flammable materials long before the season approaches. The most telling thing is that not even the gas, reticulated to the suburbs, was turned off until the following day. One man reported to me how he had watched the plastic seal on his gas meter melt and the gas ignite and shoot up to catch his roof alight. Other houses burnt down because old, dirty fences caught fire and fed it to the house. There is a lot that can be done to fireproof houses and I guess it depends on the owners and tenants to look out for themselves because in this case we were on our own. Our government chose it that way. History of the AmericasWhat Happened to the Irish Railroad Workers at Duffy's Cut?
