2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI

WHAT: 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Autobahn Mk.7 BD (VW Group A7 platform) compact family sedan. The new VW Jetta GLI is finally hatched from the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, four years after it's Hot Hatch relative, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. 7 as possessing the larger Passat's maturity and compacy Golf hatchback's trapezoids found in wrap-around light housings, fuel filler doors. Jetta GLI sedans mimick their Golf GTI hatchback brethren with telltale insignia splashed on grille, trunk lid and fenders. Jetta's acute raked backlight, now leading to a more prominent GLI near duck-tail integrated trunk-lid spoiler formed from side belt-line creasing border on fastback. It's just one interconnected ring away from being an Audi S3 ringer. WHY: People's Teutonic Hot Compact Sedan is Affordable Wolf in Dapper New Sheep's Clothing. 132% that of a late 1980s Ford small-block OHV V-8! Gear pre-selection and disengagement in the 7-speed dual clutch automated manual gearbox is notably smoother than in the previous 6-speed DSG. Cog swaps in the nether regions of the tachometer occur with hardly any drop-off.

Combined with the electronic exhaust wastegate it keeps a good amount of the 17.4 PSI of boost and hence ample torque low in the EA 888 Gen. 3 rev range. Large, slightly right offset pedals improve heel to toe action. HOW LIMBER: GLI's multi-link rear set-up is harmonized with higher spring rates and stiffer dampers, stemming float and nose dive and improving wheel placement accuracy. And yet broken pavement is absorbed in civilized fashion. Select Sport Drive Mode or set Sport Steer effort in Custom. Grab that beefy D-shaped, contrast red web stitched leather helm. The variable ratio steering firms up naturally without excessive weighting. Hankook 3-season performance tires tramsmit high grip. On the track, the XDS e-clutch front differential cuts out torque fidget making for improved understeer avoidance. Mk. 6 Jetta . Low cowl provides excellent forward visibility at corners. That intrusive front center console takes a bigger bite out of rear middle seat space than desired. HOW SAFE: rated "Good" in all categories by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS): 鈭?6 airbags, 鈭?Generous hot formed weight saving steel used in structure; -1 Not all LED headlamps are created equal. 鈭?Forward collision warning & avoidance; 鈭?Pedestrian avoidance braking; 鈭?Automatic high beam LED headlamps. 7100 less than VW Golf GTI Autobahn, less GTI's DCC suspension, sport seats and native Navigation. WHAT'S MISSING: Greater steering road feel; VW Golf GTI's balance, cabin finish; Native navigation option; DCC adaptive damping (only on 35th Anniversary Edition). 1 Power, aggressive aero bits, All-Wheel Drive. FINAL WORDS: Well worth the four year wait to gain MQB. Now happy to have our Teutonic Hot Hatch Wolf in Sedan Sheep's Clothing.

The new Jetta is a little longer and wider than before. Combined with an extra inch of wheelbase, this translates to comfortable occupant space front and rear, although the figures reveal that there鈥檚 actually marginally less legroom than before. We found the Sport Comfort leather seats on the Execline to be adequately supportive. The cabin gets ambient lighting at night but the well-finished dashboard could do with a splash of colour by day. The ambience is however enhanced by a panoramic sunroof and a 9-speaker BeatsAudio system, both standard on the Execline. The first car this reviewer drove was a 1981 Jetta, complete with 1.3-liter gas engine and 4-speed manual gearbox. The technology and complexity of modern vehicles makes them entirely different to drive, but this latest, seventh-generation Jetta embodies a little of the original鈥檚 responsiveness and feel of being connected to the road. If mildly sporty, European-style sedans are your thing then it鈥檚 well worth a closer look. US buyers can add a six-year/72,000-mile transferable warranty to the Jetta鈥檚 list of virtues; Canadian customers make do with four years/80,000km. With sales of more than 3.2 million in the US alone since 1980, the Jetta has long been central to Volkswagen鈥檚 success in the North American market.

1.5 million, Ricardo Rodriguez, head of the newly created Institute to Return Stolen Goods to the People, said at a news conference. The proceeds will go to two municipalities in the southern state of Oaxaca, which President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said are among the poorest in the country. The vehicles up for auction include Porsches, Corvettes, Mercedes-Benzes, a Mustang convertible and a 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago. A 2017 report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development noted that recent studies estimated Mexico lost between 5% and 9% of its gross domestic product (GDP) to corruption annually. Since taking office in December, Lopez Obrador, a leftist, has rolled out a string of welfare programs for the poor and the elderly, cut salaries for top civil servants and said he is saving public money by eliminating corruption. He announced plans for a "Robin Hood" institute in April. 7 million, including one with an indoor pool in an upscale Mexico City neighborhood. The money will go towards a youth drug rehabilitation program. Proceeds from another auction of jewelry seized from organized crime groups will go to communities in the mountains of Guerrero state, where many families struggle to eke out a living by growing opium poppies. Not all the assets come from drug lords. Rodriguez said one of the homes up for auction belonged to a former politician.

Authorities in California want to question the father of a 8-month-old girl who found dead after being dumped outside a funeral home on Monday. Law enforcement agents are seeking Alexander Echeverria, 22, after the body of Alexia Rose Echeverria was discovered behind a dumpster in the Los Angeles suburb of Bellflower. The child's lifeless body was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a car seat. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department believes the baby died in Sacramento before her father abandoned her body in Southern California. My baby didn't have to go through all of that,' the girl's mother, Karla Alvarado, told Univision. According to police reports, Alexander confessed to his family that he dropped the baby and she was unresponsive when he picked her up. Alexander reportedly took his daughter to a local hospital but refused to enter the facility's emergency wing. He then set out on a 400-mile drive from Sacramento to Los Angeles, where Alexia Rose was later abandoned.
