Volkswagen GTI Test Drive Review, Specifications, 0-100, Top Speed, Images

Volkswagen GTI Test Drive Review, Specifications, 0-100, Top Speed, Images

Meet the new Volkswagen GTI. Basically, it鈥檚 a close relative of the Polo GTI that鈥檚 on sale abroad, but for us, VW India has thought it best to dissociate the Polo moniker from this car. In essence, however, the GTI is nothing but a 3-door Polo with a high-strung 1.8 L turbocharged petrol engine under its hood. So, what you get is a 1273 KGs car with about 190 HP on tap. Sounds like a delicious recipe, does not it? Last month, I spent a rather chilly morning behind the wheel of the hottest new hatch in the town. As we said, the GTI is based on the 3-door Polo hatchback, which means it鈥檚 almost instantly recognizable as the hot version of the standard Polo. Apart from that one obvious difference, there are a few other giveaways of this Polo鈥檚 performance credentials. There are LED headlamps along with a new front bumper.

And of course, you also get the GTI grille with the signature red stripe. At the back, there鈥檚 a sportier bumper with a dual tip exhaust. Unfortunately, the standard set of alloys are similar to the 16-inchers you get on the Polo GT. However, buyers can also opt for sportier 17-inch rims. Much like the exterior, even the interior is nearly identical to that of the vanilla Polo. Changes here include a new flat bottom steering with contrast red stitching and a GTI badge and sportier seats. Also, quite obviously, the rear seat space isn鈥檛 as generous, but space is just about enough for an average Indian adult. My time behind the wheel of the Volkswagen GTI was restricted to a just over half an hour. So, I won鈥檛 be able to tell you too much about the way this car drives and handles. However, what I can tell you with absolute certainty is that the Volkswagen GTI is fast and fun.

It will do the 0-100 KMPH sprint in 7.2 seconds and can hit a top whack of 233 KMPH. The beautifully weighted steering and the quick 7-speed DSG ensure you enjoy every single second you spend driving this thing. There are paddle shifters available and while you certainly won鈥檛 be as quick controlling gearshifts manually, they do offer more driver engagement, which ups the fun quotient. One department in which the Polo GTI exceeds expectations is ride quality. Being a European hot hatch, I did not expect it to be as kind to my spine as it turned out to be. VW has tweaked the suspension to suit Indian conditions and it is evident from the way the Volkswagen GTI rides over rough patches. In fact, Volkswagen seems to have hit the sweet spot with the GTI鈥檚 suspension setup. It is stiff enough to ensure there is barely any body roll whilst ensuring the occupants are ferried around in a reasonable amount of comfort.

Disc brakes all around keep hard braking from turning into a hair-raising experience. 215/45 16s offer sufficient grips at all times and contribute to the GTI鈥檚 impressive ride quality. The biggest trouble with the Volkswagen GTI is the asking price. Around 30 lakhs on road is a lot of money for what most people consider a souped up Polo. It isn鈥檛, by the way. It鈥檚 much more than that. Besides, let鈥檚 take a look at the alternatives. There鈥檚 the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which is less powerful and slower. Then there鈥檚 the Mini Cooper S. It鈥檚 faster, but more expensive. Fiat Abarth 595 is almost as fast, but you鈥檒l have to contend with bone jarring ride quality and a wretched AMT. Plus, the look of bewilderment on people鈥檚 faces seeing a seemingly stock Polo scamper away like that once the light turns green as they sit there muttering expletives has to account for something, right? Oh, and lest we forget, there are only 99 GTIs up for sale in India so, you better hurry.

Tom Smith: Yeah. The screaming Hatchback. Tom Smith: You could call it the screaming Hatchback. So that鈥檚 the outside, now, let鈥檚 take it inside, which we鈥檝e already done as well, but talk specifics. Clinton Quan: It鈥檚 got really nice supportive seats. Tom Smith: And then the drive itself, the specifics, where did you go? Clinton Quan: I took the GTI SE up to Lake Arrowhead. Clinton Quan: -it鈥檚 a really fun car to drive on the winding roads. Tom Smith: It should be a theme in this podcast, it鈥檚 a really fun car drive. Clinton Quan: Yes. I mapped out the route, I wanted to take a route where I could really test out the suspension and the handling of the vehicle. And it did not disappoint. Tom Smith: It did not disappoint and mission accomplished the way that you mapped it out, it worked out just fine for you. Clinton Quan: It worked out just fine. Tom Smith: So, at the end of this test drive, the professor brings the vehicle back with a big grin ear to ear. Tom Smith: Okay. So anything else before we get to the top three?

Volkswagen GTI Price (GST Rates), Images, Mileage, Colours

The GTI has finally graced the Indian shores. The first GTI to be brought here is the Volkswagen GTI, a souped-up 3-door version of the Volkswagen Polo. We all know that when a Volkswagen gets the GTI badge, it is focussed and fast. Now that the famed GTI badge is officially here after 40 years since its inception, the hot hatch enthusiasts will be grinning ear to ear. It is the Polo GTI which is being imported as a CBU. The headlamp shape remains the same but get integrated LED DRLs. It gets the signature GTI mesh grille and gets a new sharper bumper that sports a wide mesh air-dam with integrated fog lamps. While the profile remains same, the front doors are longer as the rear doors have been ditched. The tail is the same except for the twin pod tail pipe that stands out. The GTI will be based on the top-spec Highline variant of the Polo.

It gets manual height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable and folding mirrors and cruise control. The 2-DIN music system has USB, AUX and Bluetooth compatibility. The interiors are in black with a flat bottom sporty steering wheel with steering mounted audio controls. It gets a driver armrest as well as a pull-out armrest for the rear passengers. The rear seats are foldable to increase the stowage capability of the hatchback. Well, this is the most exciting part for the enthusiasts. It gets a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Octavia churning out 189bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. While it gets the expected DSG automatic gearbox, enthusiasts would have loved the six-speed manual option. The Polo GTI matches the Mini Cooper S as the most powerful hatchback and is way ahead of the 160bhp Abarth 595 Competizione. It is the only one in the reckoning to get a dual-clutch gearbox as the Mini gets a torque converter and the Abarth sports a sluggish AMT.

The Volkswagen T-Roc has finally been unveiled following a lengthy teaser campaign, ready to take its place beneath the Tiguan. The T-Roc is an important model for the carmaker, as it is looking to tap into the compact SUV/crossover segment, which experts claim will double in size over the next ten years. First previewed by the similarly-named concept from the Geneva Motor Show more than three years ago, the T-Roc鈥檚 design remains pretty faithful to that of the show car, albeit with some revisions. At the front, the Volkswagen grille is slightly different from that on current models (almost Ford Ranger-like), and is sandwiched by slim headlights that extend into the fenders. Below them is where you鈥檒l find the LED daytime running lights, which also double as indicators when you use the turn signals. The lower section of the bumper contains another intake, the fog lamps as well as a silver-coloured skid plate. The dynamic appearance also features a sculpted bonnet and muscular wheel arches, where the latter creates prominent lines that better define the T-Roc鈥檚 shoulder line.

Also apparent is the chrome trim that starts from the base of the A-pillar and progresses over the entire side of the roof, before finally ending at the base of the C-pillar. To emphasis the compact crossover鈥檚 鈥済o anywhere鈥?ambitions, plastic cladding has also been applied to the body. As an option, a two-tone paint scheme can be specified, where the roof, A-pillars and side mirrors are painted in a contrasting colour to the body. At the rear, the T-Roc sports a steeply-raked rear window, tailgate-mounted spoiler and modern graphics within the two-piece taillights. Those silver surrounds in the lower area aren鈥檛 exhausts if you have to ask, and those 鈥渙utlets鈥?merely accommodate the reverse sensors. The T-Roc rides on Volkswagen鈥檚 modular transverse matrix (MQB) architecture, which is also found on the Tiguan, Atlas and Teramont. In terms of dimensions, the T-Roc measures 4,234 mm long (252 mm shorter than the Tiguan), 1,819 mm wide (without exterior mirrors), 1,573 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2,603 mm.

The increased body height compared to the Golf (1,452 mm) allows the front seats to be mounted 572 mm above the road, while the rear seats are set at a height of 618 mm. This offers the coveted SUV-like seating position that customers in this segment are looking for. Inside, the T-Roc is fitted with a dashboard that is similar in design to the one found in the Golf Sportsvan, although it has been livened up with lots of body coloured trim and snazzy seats. Most of the switchgear is lifted from recent Volkswagen models, so they should be pretty familiar to operate. High-tech features include Volkswagen鈥檚 11.7-inch Active Info Display, inductive charging for smartphones, Beats-tuned 300-watt sound system, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, Volkswagen Car-Net connected services and a variety of infotainment systems. On that last bit, a Composition Colour unit with a 6.5-inch touchscreen comes as standard on all T-Rocs.

Volkswagen GTI Price, Images, Review & Specs

Volkswagen GTI Price, Images, Review & Specs

Volkswagen was arguably the pioneer of the hot hatch with the very first Golf GTI. It was a simple matter of putting more power in a small hatchback to make a simple, relatively inexpensive and fun-to-drive car. Over the years, Volkswagen has given the GTI treatment to the consecutive generations of their small cars. In 2016, they finally brought one to the Indian market - the Polo GTI for Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The fifth-gen Polo GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine that produces 192PS of max power and 250Nm of peak torque. This three-door, five-seat hatchback, listed by Volkswagen India as the Volkswagen GTI, is capable of doing 0-100kph in 7.2 seconds with power being sent to the front wheels via Volkswagen鈥檚 7-speed PDK automatic transmission. Unfortunately, only a small number of units were allocated for the Indian market and Volkswagen has no plans to bring more to the country.

I have to say this was one of those cars I have experienced that actually allowed me to have a normal conversation with my co-driver feeling relaxed at those speeds on the highway. Some premium sedans priced slightly higher than this felt a little twitchier than this hatchback. This had rock solid tracking at close to full chat on the highway. In terms of outright handling in the corners, the car is forgiving. It corners with a more neutral to a slightly rearward balance in terms of overall cornering attitude even though it is a front wheel drive. This is the XDS working its magic as it allows power to be channelled to where it is needed the most during cornering. Couple this with other stability controls and the GTI corner well indeed. The steering is fast enough for mid-corner correction and in tight corners; you feel the car working with you with the tail assisting you through the corners. I would actually suggest taking a more out-in to the apex-out type of cornering on a tight hillside road rather than keeping to the middle lines as the car does have a looser rear end than you might expect.

This actually means that this is a traditional driver鈥檚 car in this aspect. In short, there are no major faults in terms of the New Golf GTI鈥檚 outright pace and performance. As it is, the car may have no direct competitors at this price. Renault does not have its latest Megane RS here yet. The current Mercedes-Benz A250 AMG Line is actually on its way out as the new generation one has recently been launched overseas, but it does not work as well as the GTI overall. Honda has forsaken this hot hatch category for the hyper hatch category. Subaru has gone fully sedan with the current WRX and STI. Mitsubishi now sells SUVs only. So the Golf GTI could actually be the best of the lot in terms of price, performance and that driver鈥檚 experience as well as being refined for the daily commute. And it also still looks good after all these years with its little bit of red highlights here and there.

The Golf 1.4 TSI R-Line is the better looking of the two entry level Golfs sold in Malaysia. There is the plain Jane Golf TSI Sportline with its smaller wheels, more basic headlights and has no dynamic indicators. This R-Line gets larger 17 inch 225/45/17 tyres and wheels, a bodykit, LED lights with dynamic indicators and also XDS electronic diff lock to name a few. You pay RM159,888 for it compared to RM146,888 for the Sportline. I must say in this case I would actually put my money down for the extra bits of the R-Line. The wheels and XDS (Extended Differential Lock) system actually make the Golf TSI a much more interesting drive if you鈥檙e really pushing it. It also looks so much better than the plain Jane Golf TSI. Make-up is good. Lots of women attest to this simple fact. Add the bright yellow paintjob that our test car had and the TSI R-Line is interesting to look at.

Anyway, it is fun to drive. Not as powerful as the GTI or R, but it still brought a lot to the plate. Things do not feel as tied down as the GTI but its all good. On the autocross course Volkswagen Malaysia put together in Puteri Harbour, it was all smooth flowing through the corners and braked well too. It may only have 150PS and 250Nm torque from the 1.4liter turbocharged engine, but it is actually enough to have a bit of fun inside the TSI R-Line. There is a nice balance in terms of tyre size and performance. You get a decent amount of traction and it works well for high speed stability over the smaller tyres you get in the Sportline. I remember trying out the pre-facelifted 1.4 TSI on the smaller 16inch wheels and whilst it was good, this one is much better in terms of its overall balance.

Volkswagen Passat Price In India, Images, Mileage, Features, Reviews

Volkswagen Passat Price In India, Images, Mileage, Features, Reviews

Volkswagen has finally launched the new generation of the Passat in India and it's priced at Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Passat will be available in two variants and sadly there's no plug-in hybrid variant introduced yet. First unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Volkswagen Passat followed the design language of the new age cars from VW. The wide stance and the sharper design made it look better than before. Though the car shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Superb, both cars look worlds apart. The new-gen Passat has taken nearly three years to come to India but the launch has been a much awaited one. We say this because we've already driven the car and know exactly what it's all about. Volkswagen Passat gets a sharper design language over its predecessor. Compared to its predecessor, the proportions are better with a longer wheelbase and a lower body. Characterized by horizontal lines, it features a crisp and angular shape. You also get a wide triple-slat grille, LED headlamps with signature DRLs and dynamic Light Assist feature. At the rear, the up level LED taillights change their graphics from horizontal to vertical when the brakes are applied.

The overall design looks smoother and clutter-free and the car looks longer as well. However, the new Passat is 2 mm shorter, but gets a 79 mm longer wheelbase. In the process, the new generation Passat gets shorter overhangs, while the model is also 12 mm wider and 14 mm lower than the previous model. The boot capacity has been increased by 26 litres to 586 litres. Under the hood, the new generation Volkswagen Passat will draw power from the 2-litre TDI four-cylinder diesel engine tuned to produce 174 bhp, while paired to a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission. There's no manual transmission on offer. Sadly, due to the current taxation structure in India, Volkswagen will not be bringing in the plug-in hybrid version of the Passat yet, but it is on the cards. The all-new Volkswagen Passat will have a host of rivals to compete against including the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord as well as its Czech sibling the Skoda Superb.

Many car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the Type R Honda Civic Hatch. 2015 looks set to be the year when this highly anticipated model hits the Australian showrooms. Honda has set a launch date of May for the UK market, so Australian motor experts are anticipating that the model will be available by the end of the year. The production model is set to resemble the updated concept seen at the Paris Motor Show in October. The model will feature a two litre turbo charged petrol engine providing 206 kW power and a redline at 7,000 rpm. This will be paired with a manual six speed transmission. R鈥?mode button. According to Honda, when this performance mode is used by pressing the steering mounted button, the engine responsiveness will be heightened by altering the torque mapping. This will make the steering more responsive and adjust the four point adaptive damper systems to enhance the handling performance.

5600 of pre orders ahead of the May launch. Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia has said that the company are looking to confirm the launch timing, so are unable to make an official announcement for the release date. However, according to Collins, it is a 鈥渕atter of when鈥?the Type R will hit the Australian market. While the confirmation for the Australian release seems like a formality, the success of the model鈥檚 business case will be monitored to provide reassurance for the company. The brand is lacking a successful performance model, as they only sold 81 CRZ units last year. The Australian market is currently filled with a range of hot hatches. Approximately twenty five percent of sales for the Volkswagen Golf are the R or GTI variant. The Australian market is also the second largest market for the Clio RS and Renault Megane after France. The Type R is currently undergoing a programme of extensive development. The company are aiming to make the model the fastest front wheel drive vehicle at Nurburgring. This will obviously increase the demand for the brand as the vehicle appeals to the sportier driver. The Type R has a long history for Honda, so it is anticipated that this Honda Civic Hatch 2015 launch will make a real impact in the marketplace and have enthusiasts rushing to their local dealership. Volkswagen Phaeton Price, Images, Mileage, Reviews, Specs

The decision to release the Phaeton was, in part, a response to Mercedes' decision to compete directly with Volkswagen in the European marketplace with Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The auto major has made the best use of the state-of-the-art technology to bring out the exquisite design of the premium sedan. Recently the car mekar presented this piece of beauty to Gauri Khan, Directore of the upcoming action flick Ra. One. Khan is also the real life wife of Shahrukh Khan, the lead actor in the movie. The Volkswagen Phaeton offers best-in the class features with four-zone automatic climate control, air compressor suspension system and a standard four-wheel drive option. The car is equipped with excellent safety features like Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), an array of airbags for passenger and driver safety and Anti-skid resistance feature. The Phaeton provides the driver with as many as 150 different communication, information and entertainment functions. Volkswagen Phaeton comes packed with powerful 3.6L V6, 3598 (cc) petrol engine with a 6-speed Triptronic transmission system and disc brakes. Mileage of Volkswagen is very low as it travels only 8.5 kmpl of petrol. Though the Volkswagen Phaeton is a tough competition for luxury sedans like Audi A8, BMW 7 series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it is a known fact that the sales phase of the car is going lower in the scale.

The Detroit auto show arrived Sunday with showman's flair, as the car industry tied its latest offerings to American nostalgia and Hollywood glamor. But on the sidelines, there were lingering questions about policy and politics. Arnold Schwarzenegger emerged from a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV. The granddaughter of screen legend Steve McQueen arrived in the latest version of the Ford Mustang he immortalized on film. In a keynote address, US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao touted just-enacted US tax cuts, which reduced the US corporate tax rate from 35 to 21 percent, saying the move will attract more US investment. There were also cautious statements about ongoing renegotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement, on which the North American car industry heavily relies. But the auto show is about the cars, and automakers did their best to stay focused on their products. With Americans' appetite for trucks and SUVs expected to remain robust in 2018, brands highlighted a number of new offerings in that category.

Mercedes-Benz debuted a redesigned G-Class SUV, significantly updating the interior with new technologies. The vehicles were made to climb steep ramps as flames shot up from the ground and confetti cannons blasted. As one finally stopped, Schwarzenegger emerged from a passenger seat. Ford unveiled its own nostalgic offering, showing off a new mid-sized Ranger pickup, redesigned and reintroduced to the North American market. It also offered a new sports trim of its Edge SUV, as well a third iteration of a "Bullitt" special edition of its Mustang sports car. Actor McQueen drove a 1968 Mustang in the thriller film "Bullitt," creating an indelible link between the car and American pop culture. His granddaughter Molly McQueen emerged from the latest special edition, comparing it favorably with the original. In a break from most of the big launches, Volkswagen highlighted a sedan, releasing its updated version of the Jetta, the German automaker's top-selling vehicle in the US. 18,545 won especially loud applause at a glitzy launch, and was a counterpoint to the pricey SUVs and trucks that can easily cost twice that amount and more. VW North American chief executive Hinrich Woebcken told reporters after the launch.

On the sidelines of the flashy announcements, industry insiders were taking a wait-and-see attitude toward talks to revamp the North American Free Trade Agreement, which has generated fears of huge tariffs on Mexican-made imports to the US. Negotiations have been ongoing for months at the insistence of US President Donald Trump, who has threatened to abandon the agreement if a beneficial deal is not struck. Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. Ray Tanguay, automotive advisor to the Canadian government, highlighted his country's close ties to the Michigan car industry, and cautioned that losing NAFTA could cost American car buyers higher prices. Analysts were less certain about potential impacts. Cox Automotive economist Jonathan Smoke. 1.5 trillion in tax cuts were expected to be varied by region and income level. 150,000 a year, said Smoke. Highlighting the tax changes, which reduced corporate rates, Chao pointed to Fiat Chrysler's decision to move production of its Ram trucks from Mexico to an assembly plant near Detroit. 1 billion and add 2,500 jobs. But analysts said many households still don't have a clear sense of how much they will benefit from the complex changes to tax laws. Rebecca Lindland of Kelley Blue Book told AFP.

Volkswagen Jetta Price (GST Rates), Images, Mileage, Colours

Volkswagen has always been subtle with its styling updates on facelifted versions, be it the Polo, Vento or for that matter the new Jetta. The updated car carries minimal styling revisions and you can count them on your fingertips. The headlight unit is now equipped with LED strips without any changes to the layout and the grille now gets an additional chrome slat on the top. The bumper at the front is new, so is the small kink at the top of the boot lid and the new design tail lamps. All these minor revisions make the car look sharper than before and it is one of the elegant cars in the D-segment. The cabin doesn鈥檛 tell you a different story either, with the changes being lesser than that on the outside. The new flat-bottom steering wheel is straight from the Polo and the Vento and I would write the same that I wrote when I reviewed the Polo, it is brilliant. The dashboard is angled at the driver, clearly showing the focus of the car. Everything is well laid-out and falls nicely to hand and while the cabin is very functional, the quality seems a little compromised as everything looks like have been borrowed from the Polo and the Vento. If you have been in a VW car before, you would relate to the instrument layout, the placement of the wing mirror adjustments, it鈥檚 all the same albeit, things are larger.

Original Warranty Original Warranty An original warranty is the warranty associated with a vehicle when it is brand new. In addition to the original warranty, select items, like tires, are typically covered by respective manufacturers. Also, an act of Federal law sometimes provides protection for certain components, like emissions equipment. Basic Warranty: Typically covers everything except for parts that wear out through normal use of the vehicle. Examples of non-covered items are brake pads, wiper blades and filters. Drivetrain Warranty: This warranty covers items the basic warranty does not protect. Wear and tear items such as hoses will not be covered, but key items like the engine, transmission, drive axles and driveshaft often will be. Roadside Assistance: The level of service differs greatly with this warranty, but many manufacturers offer a toll-free number that helps provide assistance in case you run out of gas, get a flat tire or lock your keys in the car. Corrosion Warranty: This warranty focuses on protecting you from holes caused by rust or corrosion in your vehicle's sheet metal.

Please check the owner's manual, visit a local dealership or look at the manufacturer's website to learn more about the specifics of the warranties that apply to a vehicle. Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Certified Pre-Owned Warranty To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points. Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. Always check with the manufacturer for the specific warranties they offer. Age/Mileage Eligibility To even be considered for certification, a car must be a recent model year and have limited mileage. The exact requirements are established by individual manufacturers.

Lease Term Certified Some manufacturers offer certified pre-owned cars for lease. The length of the lease is often shorter than a new car lease, but it will cost you less. Point Inspection These inspections entail a comprehensive vehicle test to ensure that all parts are in excellent working order. The point inspection list is simply a numbered list of exactly what parts of the car are examined. While many inspections range from a 70- to 150-point checklist, most are very similar and are performed using strict guidelines. Ask your local dealer about specific details. Return/Exchange Program Some manufacturers offer a very limited return or exchange period. Find out if you will get the sales tax and licensing/registration fees back should you return or exchange the car. Roadside Assistance Most certified pre-owned programs offer free roadside service in case your car breaks down while still under warranty. Special Financing Reduced-rate loans are available through many certified pre-owned programs. Manufacturer-backed inspections and warranties help eliminate the risks involved with buying pre-owned, so buyers who qualify can take advantage of the great offers. Transferable Warranty When a new car warranty transfers with the certification of the car and remains eligible for the next owner, it is known as a transferable warranty. Once the original transferable warranty expires, an extended warranty takes effect. Warranty Deductible This is the amount for which you are responsible when repair work is performed under the warranty. Some manufacturers require a deductible while others don't, so always ask.
