2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Review, Pricing, Trims, & Photos

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Review, Pricing, Trims, & Photos

The long-anticipated 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI has officially made it to dealers like our partner in the Los Angeles suburb of Ontario, CA - Ontario Volkswagen. The GLI is the enthusiasts, sporty model, of the Jetta. Volkswagen updated its standard line of Jetta鈥檚 in the previous year. So, with these 2019 models, Volkswagen marks the 7th generation of GLIs and Jettas. My friends at Ontario VW gave me a Jetta GLI for a day recently. Here鈥檚 my complete report after running around Southern California鈥檚 Inland Empire and getting a feel for the all-new 2019 VW Jetta GLI! The Volkswagen Jetta GLI has historically been compared to its VW hatchback (hot hatch in VW-lingo) sibling the Golf GTI. Well, they鈥檙e both Volkswagens and both the sporty/enthusiasts trims of their respective models. Personally, I like both for different reasons. I鈥檒l contrast the two vehicles, only once, in a moment. With the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI being in its 7th generation that equates to 35-years here in the United States.

And those 35-years are honored in one of the trim options for the 2019 VW Jetta GLI. And, it just so happens that, my test-driver was a 35th Anniversary Edition GLI. So here鈥檚 the cool comparison I鈥檓 going to give the 2019 VW Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary Edition and the 2019 Golf GTI Rabbit Edition. Volkswagen鈥檚 stylish, yet in-the-know and subtle seat tags. Okay, one other comparison, with the GTI and the GLI both being the sporty trims, is the very cool red line across the grills of both vehicles. It鈥檚 in all sorts of pics. BTW, wondering what GTI and GLI stand for? Those are acronyms for Grand Touring Injection and Grand Luxury Injection. So to put the comparisons of the Jetta GLI and the Golf GTI to rest, at least for this post, the Golf is going to be sportier and a hatchback. Whereas the Jetta GLI is a sedan and slightly less aggressive.

The 鈥?9 VW Jetta GLI is offered in three different trims. As always, don鈥檛 worry about the MSRP - manufacturer鈥檚 suggested retail price - for two reasons. First, you need to get your 鈥?9 VW Jetta GLI equipped to your specifications. And more importantly, go see my friends at Ontario Volkswagen. Beyond putting you in the car you want and at the best price, they鈥檙e not going to play any of the old school (or new school!) games. The guys and gals at Ontario Volkswagen are my friends and I鈥檓 happy to personally introduce you. Volkswagen鈥檚 2019 Jetta GLI comes with the same engine across all three trims. That鈥檚 a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that puts out 228-horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque. The 鈥?9 Jetta GLI comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. And I love driving manual on open roads and low-traffic conditions. Of course, here in Southern California, we鈥檙e hardpressed to find either of those settings. So the optional 7-speed automatic transmission is probably the way to go.

My test driver hand the automatic transmission option and it鈥檚 Tiptronic shifting offered the fun and control of manual while delivering the convenience of automatic. What鈥檚 even better are the paddle shifters. Even in normal drive mode, I spun the tires with the paddles. In sport mode, you can easily smoke the rubber. And with the 2019 VW Jetta GLI still being a Volkswagen, great fuel economy comes standard. All the trims and engines are rated the same at 25-miles-per-gallon in the city and 32-miles-per-gallon on the highway. Like usual, the Ontario Volkswagen team set me up in a gorgeous, well-equipped test driver. The 35th Anniversary Edition is super-eye-catching, especially in the Pure Gray color they gave me. But really, you can鈥檛 go wrong with any of the colors, (red, white, black, gray, & silver) VW offers for the 鈥?9 Jetta GLI. All of them look fantastic with the red highlighted GLI badging.

VW Beetle Final Edition SEL: Review, Photos, Features

VW Beetle Final Edition SEL: Review, Photos, Features

I have a soft spot for the Beetle and have often thought about buying one as a backup car. I like that it's fairly rudimentary compared to more modern cars (although the Final Edition SEL came with a nice camera system plus park assist and blind-spot monitoring). I also like that it's small, yet not too small: it's easy to maneuver in the city but also big enough to handle the suburbs and not get pushed around on the freeway. It would be the ideal vehicle for my retired self, puttering around the New Jersey 'burbs with jaunts to Manhattan and maybe the odd weekend road trip. Fuel economy is fixed-income friendly: 29 mpg city/33 highway/26 combined. The VW Beetle wouldn't work as a main family car outside of an urban context, but compared with other style-mobiles, such as the MINI Cooper and the Fiat 500, it's a worthwhile option to explore for singles and couples. The design annoys some, but there's no doubting its Bug-ness, so the car isn't trying to hide its lineage. It's also pretty fun to drive. With less than 200 horsepower, you can get into everything the Beetle has to offer.

The steering isn't terribly crisp, and the braking is sort of loose, but the suspension is sharp and once you get to tossing the thing into some corners, you want to toss it into more. I struggled a bit with turbo-lag from the 2.0-liter motor. It was easy to overcome by tipping the throttle in before asking for power, and even easier in manual mode, but more than few times I wondered where the juice had gone. Overall, this didn't bother me too much, as I didn't see the Beetle as a high-performance, small-engine ride (its siblings, the GTI and Golf, are a different story). VW sold a little over 14,000 Beetles in the US last year. Not bad, but not enough to keep the vehicle around. Consumers want four-door crossover SUVs these days, disadvantaging the awkward aspects of two-door hatches. So, so long, Beetle. It's not like we hardly knew ya, after six decades. But I always shed a salty tear when a model drives off to that great garage in the sky, and in this case, we really are sending off one of the most incredible auto designs in human history. So good night, sweet Beet! I'm glad I got a Final Edition ride.

Britain's drivers are suffering more punctures than ever before. But inexplicably only just over a third of new cars today are sold with a spare wheel as standard, a new investigation has found. With the UK's roads continuing to fall into a state of disrepair and increasingly riddled with potholes, motorists suffer more than 30,000 punctures a month on average. But when they do get a flat tyre and would like to open the boot to find a spare wheel, 62 per cent of new car owners don't have one. A wheel inconvenience: An investigation by What Car? 62% of new cars sold today don't have a spare wheel as standard. According to the RAC, pothole-related call outs are up by 110 per cent in recent months. Of all the breakdown assistance requests they received from customers in 2017, 352,619 were due to flat tyres. That's almost 30,000 punctures a month, or 1,000 a day. So far in 2018 the RAC has already had to respond to 127,726 call outs due to flat tyres. And shockingly, 50,402 (40 per cent) are calls for help because the affected vehicle doesn't have a spare wheel.

The situation has got so bad that the RAC and other breakdown providers now equip their patrol staff with a universal space saver spare wheel to help stricken motorists. New analysis by What Car? 8 per cent of new cars sold in the UK have a full-size spare wheel supplied with them. Another 30 per cent have skinnier space-saver spares that are designed to be a short-term fix. With one fitted, a driver can only travel at speeds of up to 50mph and its recommended the space saver is replaced with a full-size wheel with a new tyre at the earliest convenience. Another 30% of new models are sold with space saver wheels. Infuriatingly for motorists, the most common flat tyre remedy provided by car manufacturers are puncture repair kits. These are widely accepted as being difficult to use, ineffective and in some cases damage the rubber beyond repair at a later date. Still, manufacturers are supplying repair kits in 55 per cent of new cars that are available in showrooms right now.

The remaining 7 per cent of cars come with run-flat tyres, which are more expensive to replace. It suggests that of the 2.5 million new cars registered in the UK last year, 1.6 million won't have a spare wheel in the boot. As the frequency of punctures increases, drivers' ability to cope with them is being hampered by cost-savvy vehicle manufacturers. The motoring magazine said: 'A tyre repair kit costs around 拢20, whereas a space-saver spare wheel could cost 拢100. To see which new cars were - and weren't - equipped with a spare, What Car? 251 new models from 31 brands to find out what puncture remedy was being offered as standard. RAC data also showed evidence of a switch from spares to repair kits - which ultimately results in more stranded motorists. The organisation told This is Money that back in 2010 it dealt with 29,371 鈥榩uncture no spare鈥?call-outs.

New And Used Volkswagen Golf (VW): Prices, Photos, Reviews, Specs

New And Used Volkswagen Golf (VW): Prices, Photos, Reviews, Specs

The Volkswagen Golf is the automaker's compact car. It's the brand's global bestseller, and has been for 40 years. While the Jetta has become more specialized for American tastes, the Golf retains a more European flair. With the Golf, Volkswagen offers three- or five-door hatchbacks, or a wagon body style. The range is powered mostly by a turbo-4, however an electric version is available in the e-Golf guise. Competition for the Golf comes from several sporty hatches such as the Mazda 3, Kia Forte, Hyundai Elantra GT and the all-wheel-drive Subaru Impreza. For 2019, VW replaced the engine found in the Golf hatchback and front-wheel-drive SportWagen, and substituted one with smaller displacement, but it also made active safety tech standard on most versions and added more power to the Golf GTI. For the 2015 model year, Volkswagen launched a new seventh generation of the Golf in the U.S., trailing the start of European sales by about a year. Golfs sold in North America are now built at a factory in Mexico, just as the Jetta has been for a decade or more.

The latest Golf is lighter, more spacious inside, and sports a new range of powertrains as well as many more electronic safety features. The newest Golf is offered with a 170-horsepower, turbocharged 1.8-liter inline-4 and a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 210 hp (or 220 hp when optionally equipped). The old inline-5 is now long gone, replaced by that efficient new 1.8-liter in the base model. A new Golf R makes 292 hp from a 2.0-liter inline-4 hitched to all-wheel drive, similar to the setup in Audi's S3; the Golf R arrived mid-way through the 2015 model year. VW offers an all-electric e-Golf in select markets here and in limited numbers, as well. The 2015 Golf included more electronic safety systems, a wider array of standard and optional equipment, and better soundproofing and noise suppression, while retaining most of the sporty driving characteristics that peg it as German. And its lines instantly identify it as a Golf, marching to the same drumbeat as its six earlier generations. The Golf line now also absorbs the wagon formerly known as Jetta SportWagen, rechristened the Golf SportWagen and based on the latest underpinnings.

It went on sale here for 2015, bringing with it the well-liked TDI diesel version as well as the new 1.8T gas engine. VW expects the wagon to outsell the Golf hatchback, in part due to the longer version's ability to go up against Subaru with four driven wheels. In 2015, Volkswagen admitted diesel engines in this model illegally cheated federal tests and polluted beyond allowable limits. As part of unprecedented settlements with federal and state governments, Volkswagen agreed to buyback from owners diesel-equipped models of this vehicle. For 2017, Volkswagen added an all-wheel-drive version of its SportWagen, dubbed Alltrack. It couples the 1.8-liter turbo-4 with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system that can send up to 50 percent of torque to its rear wheels. VW in 2019 dropped the 1.8-liter turbo-4 from the Golf hatchback and front-wheel-drive SportWagen in favor of a smaller 1.4-liter turbo-4 paired to more sophisticated transmissions in the name of improved fuel economy.

Launched in 1974, the model we now call Golf was sold in the U.S. When the Golf was introduced back in the mid-'70s, it was seen as groundbreaking, especially for Volkswagen, as it offered an efficient water-cooled engine driving the front wheels. U.S. models were originally called Rabbit, and some were built here. The Rabbit was intended to replace the aging rear-engine Beetle, although that car lived on for several more years before leaving this market. Fast-forwarding through Golf history, the third-generation Volkswagen Golf, which ran from 1993 until 1999 is likely the oldest you'll currently find on used-car lots. They're known for being a little more smooth, safe, and refined than Golf models from the 1980s, but at the same time a little less nimble and tossable. Most of these Golfs came with a 115-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that was quite perky with the manual transmission, but not so happy with the optional automatic. The Golf GTI performance model was a genuine hot-hatch, packing VW's 2.8-liter narrow-angle 6-cylinder VR6 engine under the hood; it put out 172 hp and made the Golf faster than almost any other affordable small car of the time.

New And Used Volkswagen Eos (VW): Prices, Photos, Reviews, Specs

New And Used Volkswagen Eos (VW): Prices, Photos, Reviews, Specs

The Volkswagen Eos is the automaker's outgoing hardtop convertible. 2 seating in a vehicle halfway between a compact and mid-size car, and its lines flirt with the edge of the luxury market. The Eos is a unique model in the Volkswagen lineup鈥攊ts folding hardtop that collapses into the trunk is unique too鈥攁lthough it's built on underpinnings from various earlier generations of Golf, Jetta, and Passat. The Volkswagen Eos competes with the Buick Cascada, the Mini Cooper S Convertible, the discontinued Volvo C70, and perhaps the Mercedes-Benz SLC convertible. Despite offering a "Final Edition" for 2015, Volkswagen made available the Eos for 2016, which was the last year for the Eos. When it launched back in 2007, the Eos was intended to be the successor to its VW Cabriolet model that was based on an earlier generation of Golf hatchback鈥攁nd that's how VW pitched it. That Cabrio had a folding cloth roof, though, so the Eos was definitely a step up in insulation, weather protection, and comfort.

It's also a hit with kids, who will relish watching the folding roof lift up, separate into give panels that nest inside each other, and retract to drop itself into the trunk compartment鈥攁ll in less than 30 seconds. The Eos' unique style and packaging give it few natural competitors; the MINI Cooper S Convertible could be considered an alternative, as could the BMW 1-Series Convertible. The MINI is smaller, and the BMW can be considerably more expensive, however. The packaging is quite marvelous in the Eos, in fact. Its trunk is reasonably roomy, and the power top won't descend if there's anything in its path. The back seat is, surprisingly, roomy enough for kids鈥攐r even shorter adults, for brief stints鈥攁nd access isn't bad. Wind deflection isn't great at highway speeds, though, so you'll probably travel at speed with the top up. The Volkswagen Eos hasn't changed a great deal since its 2007 launch, except for some changes to trim levels and the loss of the VR6 engine option.

All models include a pop-up roll bar plus head and thorax side bags, along with more standard features than you'll find on VW's other small cars. In 2010, VW pared down the engines to a single 200-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, here paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the optional, and excellent, 6-speed automated manual gearbox. The first two years of Eos also offered as an option VW's 250-hp, 3.2-liter VR6, which came only with the DSG. What it gained in smoothness and exhaust note, however, the V6 gave up in fuel economy鈥攊t was much thirstier鈥攁nd it really didn't feel much faster on the road. The turbo-4 engine does well on fuel economy, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 31 highway. On newer versions Bluetooth has been made standard and larger wheels have helped spruce up the Eos' appearance somewhat. And for 2013, VW furthered that by introduced a new Sport trim, with a lowered suspension, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, fog lamps, and special 18-inch alloy wheels, plus a touchscreen audio system. Handling and roadholding are better than the car's conservative exterior might suggest. The Eos is a better-tuned, better-balanced vehicle than all the smaller cars in VW's lineup except for the GTI鈥攁nd it's considerably more refined than that hot hatch. Ride quality in the Eos is also supple and composed, especially for such a short vehicle.

I noticed a few egrets perching on timber frames and scouring for food in the mud. So i took as many shots as i could since i am not sure how many will be keepers. With 7 fps the EOS80D can be quite good for birds in flight shots. EOS80D image is quite noisy in dim light. Post processing will improve it. I tried to get a longer focal range by adding Kenko DGX Pro300 1.4x tele-convertor but the auto-focus became slow and hunting, i missed a lot of shots of the flying egrets. So, i decided to take it off and just use my Canon L EF 70-300mm lens only. 480mm equivalent which is not bad for short to medium range distance but wanting for longer range. So, that is all i got to show for my first birding session using my new EOS80D APSC body. I only had about two hours to test it on that day. I will do further testing in the next trip using my EF400mm f5.6 L lens and Sigma 150-500mm which will give me an equivalent 640mm and 800mm focal range respectively. I will post the photos here so those who are thinking about getting a good body for birding but do not want to spend a fortune can make an informed decision. You never know, EOS80D could just be the solution that you need. Until then, thanks for reading this post and happy birding.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Review, Pricing, Trims, & Photos

Another nod to the 35th Anniversary Edition, in addition to the seat tags mentioned above, is the exterior badging on both sides of the Jetta GLI. And the 18鈥?5-spoke gray painted wheels, on the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 35th Anniversary Edition, with red accents, looked great especially with the red brake calipers visible. Driving the enthusiasts鈥?version of the 2019 Jetta was a blast. Exactly as, I鈥檓 sure, Volkswagen intended. The GLI is quick. From a dead stop, you can really feel the torque. And that goes the same for when you鈥檙e on the highway and want to pass someone. In both cases, it also sounds great when doing so! My test driver, the 35th Anniversary Edition, also had Volkswagen鈥檚 Dynamic Chasis Control (DCC) giving it a very sure-footed and stable feel when handling at any speed. 30k. And again, that鈥檚 just MSRP, go see my friends at Ontario VW for the best deal you鈥檒l find. The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is distinctive and sharp in its styling.

The Jetta Wagon is a 4-door, 5-passenger wagon, available in a multitude of engine/trim combinations. There's a model of wagon out there for just about anyone. Three trims avail the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon: GL, GLS, and GLX. With these trims comes the task of choosing one of three great Volkswagen engines. More power to you: Air conditioning, cruise control, rear defogger, keyless entry/unlock, power locks, power mirrors, power steering, power windows, AM/FM radio cassette & CD player, folding rear seat for maximizing cargo space, tachometer, and tilt steering wheel. Package upgrades to the GLS or GLX can include power sunroof, heatable front seats, heatable leather-trimmed front seats with lumbar support, leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, Monsoon sound system, automatic day/night rear-view mirror, and outside-temperature indicator.

Standard exterior features on the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon include heated driver and passenger side remote mirrors, clear lens halogen headlamps, and intermittent rear wiper washer. Upgrades on the exterior can include alloy wheels, fog lights, heated windshield washer nozzles, and rain-sensing wipers. The top-level wagon TDI are designed for maximum efficiency. The TDI engine provides tremendous fuel economy: 42/49 mpg (city/hwy) for manuals, 34/45 mpg (city/hwy) for automatics. Safety is Volkswagen's self-proclaimed most important standard feature, and no exception with the Jetta Wagon. Take for instance an anti-theft alarm system, an immobilizer that prevents the Jetta from being started up if an unauthorized key is used and an electronic stabilization program for better handling and control. Further down the list of standard safety features are the dual front and front side impact airbags, anti-intrusion side door beams, and a collapsible upon impact steering column. You can also opt for side curtain protection airbags that extend down the roofline to help minimize head and upper torso injury. Four-wheel ABS power assisted, vented front discs with solid rear discs give you braking security.

We call it a driver-focused interior. You'll call it the "I can't believe I get all this cool stuff interior." Either way, you'll wish you had a longer commute. Besides looking and feeling great, these available ventilated leather seating surfaces help cool you down when the weather gets warm. Not only can you stay warm on chilly evenings, but now so can your front passenger with available heated front seats. Having 10 colors of ambient light is a first for Volkswagen, and this available feature can change the mood inside instantly. Breakthrough technology. Well within reach. Innovative technology features help enhance the driving experience without getting in the way. It's tech with a purpose, not just tech for the sake of tech. Besides looking great, the available sleek glass display helps make the map more prominent, while dynamic route guidance assists you with turn-by-turn information. Turbocharged exhilaration comes standard. With this available feature, you control your drive. Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom driving modes each offer a different feel and response. Choose your favorite and take over. Available only on the R-Line, this feature can apply braking pressure when needed to the inside front wheel during turns. The result: more accurate cornering.

Safety is never optional. Safety is a core value to us. And while we can't predict everything you might encounter, we can and do spend long hours trying to help you prepare for it. Front and rear crumple zones help absorb crash energy, while a rigid safety cage helps deflect it away from the driver and passengers. In the event of a collision that deploys airbags7, the ICRS can turn off the fuel pump, unlock the doors, and activate the hazard lights.6 It helps react if you might not be able to. 6The Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) will only activate in a collision where the airbags deploy or safety belt pretensioners activate. Not all collisions cause airbags to deploy or safety belt pretensioners to activate. 7Airbags are supplemental restraints only and will not deploy under all crash circumstances. Always use safety belts and seat children only in the rear, using restraint systems appropriate for their size and age. Dive into the details. There's a lot more to the Jetta than what you see here.

Volkswagen Touareg Review

You'd expect a great deal of practicality from the Touareg - it's 4.8 metres long after all - and it doesn't disappoint. The second generation car has a 40mm longer wheelbase than the first, and it results in copious legroom front or rear in a car that already has ample headroom. The boot is impressive too. There's a wide, clear opening with no lip and 580 litres of storage, opening to 1,642 litres with the rear seats down. Ultimately it's not quite as good as some rivals - the XC90 manages almost as much with seven seats in place as the VW does with just five - but it's a lot of room that should suit most families. The lack of sixth and seventh seats is a bit of a sour note on the family front though. EuroNCAP tested the first generation Touareg in 2004, and it scored the maximum five stars.

The second generation car has not been tested in Europe, but US testing body IIHS has and found it to be 'Good' in all areas. Standard safety equipment includes electronic brake force distribution, stability control, traction control, differential lock, post-collision braking, a driver alert system and front and rear curtain airbags. There's only one engine available in the Touareg, although it comes in two forms. It's a 3.0-litre, V6 'TDI' diesel and it's available either as a 201hp unit or a 258hp version. The 201hp option will accelerate the Touareg to 60mph in 8.5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 128mph. It is rated to 42,2mpg combined, equivalent to 176g/km CO2 which puts it in the £800 first year VED band. These economy figures do not change much for the 258hp model. Combined fuel economy falls to 41.5mpg combined, but the CO2 rating is still just 180g/km, putting it in the same VED bracket. Both versions use an 8-speed automatic gearbox and 4MOTION four-wheel drive. They have the same towing rating of 3.5 tonnes too. For the most obvious daily cost - fuel - the Touareg is a solid performer.

Either engine returns around 42mpg combined, though be aware of the effect that fitting optional, larger wheels may have on fuel economy. It's not bad for a car weighing nearly 2.2 tonnes, even if it will be a little worse in normal driving conditions. Other costs are less wallet-friendly. Insurance sits in group 40 of 50 for all models, so you might be facing an unpleasant bill every year. Your pocket might sting a bit at the first year VED of £800 too, and don't forget that every car sits in a higher annual band due to the list price, so it'll cost the full £450 every year thereafter. You'll also need to top up the 19 litre AdBlue tank every 7,000 miles or so. On the bright side, repair and service bills shouldn't be too bad. There's a lot of parts-sharing across the Volkswagen Group and this means that there's few specialist bits and a good availability of components, leading to lower prices.

Three engines were available for this generation. The first was a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that made 154 hp (145 with PZEV emission controls). It was mated to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission (four-speed prior to '05) and should be powerful enough for the majority of buyers. A 3.0-liter V6 that generated 190 hp was also available (18 hp less prior to '04) on the LE and XLE trim levels, while a 210-hp, 3.3-liter V6 (introduced for 2004) was available on the SE model only. These six-cylinder Camrys came with the automatic only. In previous years, these power numbers were higher because of a change in measurement that occurred in 2006, although actual output never changed. Like the more recent versions, the 1997-2001 Toyota Camry sedan offered a quiet, stress-free driving experience. Many desirable modern features were also available, including side airbags and antilock brakes (which became standard on all trim levels except the base CE). It, too, was offered with four- and six-cylinder powertrains. Although a Camry older than 1997 is likely to have quite a few miles on it, it is still something to consider for folks on a tight budget. Provided it has been faithfully maintained, a 1992-'96 Camry (which was available in coupe, sedan and wagon body styles) should be able to spin its odometer to nearly 200,000 miles without major problems. It's this final trait, more than any other, that has kept the Toyota Camry popular with buyers over the last two decades.

2019 Volkswagen Passat Individual Design Package

volkswagen inks xinjiang dealWolfsburg, 26 September 2005 - Passat customers can now upgrade their vehicle using the "design package" from Volkswagen Individual: the package gives both the saloon and the estate versions an appealing, personal and sporty touch. The love of the car is often reflected in the details: with dark chrome radiator grille, side window trims and rear lettering in the new "design package" for the Passat, for example. The anthracite-painted 18 inch "Chicago" alloy wheels with five double-spoke design and gloss finish are also an eye-catcher. These are combined with a 15 millimetre lower sports suspension which is specifically tuned to match the wheels. Tinted rear and side windows match the dark chrome and wheels. A look at the vehicle interior shows the attractive contrast between dark nappa and light-coloured "Sensitive" leather in "Snow Beige". The two-tone concept is adhered to throughout, with the door panelling also in "Snow Beige", for example. The multi-function steering wheel and gearstick knob also have light-coloured stitching and the fabric foot mats have a light-coloured surround. The dark, brushed aluminium decorative strips and the sill panel strips with "Individual" lettering give the vehicle an individual touch.

Other useful features in the "design package" include fog lights, heated windscreen washer jets, heated front and rear seats which can be regulated separately and two-zone "Climatronic" air conditioning system. The "RCD 200" radio-CD system with four speakers in the front completes the range. The "design package" for the Passat and Passat Estate is available to order across Europe for the Sportline equipment range. The package is available in Germany for 6 102 EUR with normal chrome fittings and exclusively with dark chrome for 6 402 EUR starting in the autumn. In addition to the "design package", Volkswagen Individual also offers a wheel range with four high quality wheels in both 17 and 18-inch format for the Passat and Passat Estate. Alongside the "Chicago" model, this includes the 18-inch "Samarkand" alloy wheels, the 17-inch "Avignon" alloy wheels and the five double-spoke model "Siena". The "Siena" and "Avignon" models are available in titan silver or sterling silver. The "RCD 500 Dynaudio Sound" sound system with ten-channel amplifier and ten speakers can be ordered on request and can be combined with the "RNS MFD-DVD" DVD navigation system.

Still, despite the rear leaf-spring layout, the Hilux is surprisingly good to drive. There’s lots of tyre squeal but the ride is comfortable, the steering is accurate and body control isn’t too bad considering the elevated stance. As with any pick-up, if the load bay is empty, the ride can be a little bouncy and there's flex detectable in the chassis. Constant evolution means the Isuzu D-Max is still a top pick-up choice on the market, even though there are plenty of newer rivals out there. It’s still a solid choice though, offering low running costs, a five-year warranty and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and the broad range of models means there's a truck to suit all sorts of jobs. The load bay in the single cab model measures at 2,305mm by 1,570mm, with a payload capacity of 1,128kg or 1,136 depending on the drivetrain. The double cab gets a load bay of 1,552mm by 1,530mm, but the payload capacity varies based on the model you choose - with the maximum being 1,096kg. The towing weight for 4x4 models is 3,500kg, dropping to 2.500kg otherwise.

Not surprisingly, the Utility specification models are very basic inside the cab, with easy-clean trim and plenty of hard plastics to stand up to work use. However, even the most basic models have air-conditioning, front electric windows and height-adjustable headrests. Opt for the Eiger trim, the lowest of the premium double-cab models, and you get a height-adjustable steering wheel, driver and passenger reading lights and manual air-conditioning, plus a stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and USB-iPod interface. Move up to Yukon spec and you can add 17-inch alloys, a six-speaker stereo system, a leather steering wheel and daytime running lights. The Utah model also comes with electronic climate control, leather seats with electric adjustment, courtesy light delay, parking sensors and roof bars. The Arctic Trucks AT35 is also based on this spec, with few changes inside, but a dramatic external makeover, with 35-inch Nokian off-road tyres, flared wheelarches and a lofty ride height. The SsangYong Musso is now in its second generation, and this time around it's a variant of the Rexton SUV. That means it has tough ladder frame construction, but more importantly it has a plush interior and kit list that's on a par with the Rexton. There's a 2.2-litre diesel under the bonnet, and selectable four-wheel drive allows you to drive in 2WD mode to help save fuel. There are six-speed manual and auto gearboxes offered, too. The Musso's load bed isn't quite as large as those of some rivals, but it still meets the tax-friendly one-tonne payload limit. SsangYong offers EX, Rebel, Saracen and Rhino trims, and all models are well equipped, featuring plenty of kit taken straight from the Rexton SUV. We'd go for a Rebel at least, because then you get kit such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and cooled seats and a heated leather steering wheel.

Remus Unveils Axle-Back Exhaust System For 2019 BMW 540i

A few things define BMW as a brand and amongst them you’ll discover a special affinity for straight six engines. They’ve been a part of its DNA even before the corporate we know right now was based however today they have basically change into synonymous with the blue and white badge. Even though they are now not naturally aspirated, fashionable turbocharged mills nonetheless retain the a number of the characteristics of their predecessors, together with the sound they make. The new BMW 540i comes with the latest 3-liter straight six engine developed by the Germans, within the form of the B58 mill. Developing 340 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, the silky smooth powerplant under the hood can simply handle the car’s weight be in sedan or Touring guise but that’s not what we’re right here to discuss. We’re right here to have a look and hearken to what the guys from Remus have put collectively for it, a brand new axle-back exhaust that fully adjustments the tune of the Bimmer to be extra precise. According to them, the system is made from stainless steel and makes use of the usual vehicle’s actuator to switch between different driving modes and, obviously, sounds made by the exhaust. Therefore, prospects will be capable of make their automotive sound louder and more aggressive by merely utilizing the BMW driving mode selectors situated subsequent to the gearshift lever. Unfortunately, the Remus exhaust apparently solely works on cars fitted with the M Sport bundle and together with a M550i rear diffuser. 2,157) relying on the exhaust tips you desire.

A kerbweight of 1,204kg makes the 308 the lightest model here, which partly explains its strong efficiency, however this lightness has benefits to experience and dealing with as effectively. The Peugeot rides smoothly for essentially the most half, but its chassis is more shaken by harsh bumps, especially mid-corner. The Corolla and Golf both have extra composure right here. But the French hatchback’s quick steering and small steering wheel imply it turns in sharply, and there’s sufficient grip to support that. The steering has a extra satisfying weight than the Golf and Corolla’s set-ups, however it’s equally devoid of feedback, whereas the opposite models’ composure over tough roads means they finally inspire extra confidence on a country route than the Peugeot. It’s shut, though; all three automobiles rating extremely for trip and dealing with. Fold the rear seats down and the 308 has more space than both rivals, with 1,309 litres out there. But the distinction in reality isn’t huge, and all three fashions can have enough room for a typical trip to Ikea, for instance. There’s not a lot trade-off within the back seats, either, since you get a very good amount of head and legroom in the rear.

Still, the Golf has a bit more space and has more accommodating seats as properly. The Corolla’s rear-seat space is about on par with the 308’s, but the French model is slightly easier to get in and out of as a result of the doorways open large. In our Driver Power 2018 satisfaction survey Peugeot completed seventeenth in each the manufacturer and vendor categories, which is towards the underside of the table and a disappointing outcome for the brand. Toyota ranked twelfth and third respectively in our annual poll, while Volkswagen came in fifth overall out of 26 in the makers’ chart, however its garages trailed in 18th place out of 28 marques. The 308 additionally drops behind its rivals for safety equipment, because autonomous emergency braking is £400 as a part of the Drive Assist pack, which also provides adaptive cruise control (each are customary on the other vehicles). You must pay for lane-keep assist as nicely; this is included with the Corolla, however the Golf also misses out on this know-how as commonplace. The Peugeot 308 managed a poor 38.5mpg on our take a look at, which places it properly behind the Toyota and VW for economy.

At current fuel costs, that works out at an annual petrol cost of £1,seven hundred in the 308, whereas the Golf will set you again £1,562 and you’ll spend £1,478 a 12 months at the pumps with the Corolla. Our example insurance coverage quotes demonstrated that the Golf can be the cheapest automobile to insure right here. Our numbers present an annual premium of £416 for the 308, £510 for the Toyota and simply £397 for the VW. Testers’ notes: “The Peugeot’s EAT8 automated gearbox is clean, however it’s not as quick as the Golf’s twin-clutch unit. The Golf is a stand-out winner within the family hatchback class as a result of it’s such a advantageous all-rounder. It’s comfortable, good to drive, practical and economical - all key areas for most patrons looking for this sort of automobile. But its strengths go even further than that, as a result of it’s also great worth, has a very good infotainment system, is quiet, refined and roomy within the rear.
