Although more expensive, the three Coupe models are no quicker than their regular Cayenne counterparts. Instead, they get more standard equipment in addition to sportier sheetmetal, including speed-sensitive power steering, Porsche Active Suspension Management, and the Sport Chrono package. A glass panorama roof is also standard, its dark coloring cleverly disguising the fact the roofline doesn't sweep down from the B-pillar as dramatically as the greenhouse. Base Coupe and S Coupe models roll on 20-inch wheels, while the Turbo Coupe comes equipped with 21s and Porsche's trick tungsten-carbide coated PSCB brakes, which generate up to 90 percent less brake dust. As with all Porsches, the Cayenne Coupe options list is long and pricey. One option unique to the Cayenne Coupe is the Lightweight Sport package. In addition to visual tweaks inside and out, this package replaces the heavy glass panorama roof with a clear-coated carbon-fiber panel and swaps the standard alloy wheels for 22-inch forged items.

On the Turbo Coupe, the package also includes the addition of a sports exhaust system. Depending on which of the three variants of the package are chosen, weight saving range from 39 pounds to 48 pounds. Porsche even offers an off-road package that adds extra underbody protection and upgrades the infotainment interface to show steering angle, transverse gradient, and longitudinal incline in the rough stuff. Although it's nice to know Porsche engineers care, the reality is few if any U.S. Cayenne Coupes off the tarmac. In fact, most are likely to spend their days mooching quietly around America's wealthier suburbs. The Cayenne Coupe—capable of 151 mph with its least powerful engine under the hood—is a vehicle whose capabilities will be rarely tested. That least powerful engine is the 335-hp single-turbo V-6. The 434-hp twin-turbo V-6 in the S Coupe (pictured above) is crisper at low revs and zings happily to 6,600 rpm. It's the value choice in the lineup, though in this spec Porsche's sportiest SUV is still merely satisfyingly brisk rather than pin-your-ears-back fast.

Porsche claims the S Coupe is a second quicker than the base car to 60 mph, taking 4.7 seconds for the sprint, and is 12 mph faster with a top speed of 163 mph. With its storming 541-hp V-8, the Cayenne Turbo Coupe the real deal, however. This 5,024-pound Porsche SUV punches hard out of corners and surges ecstatically along the straights—all the way to 177 mph if you're lucky enough to live near an autobahn. The Cayenne Coupes we sampled on the winding roads of southeastern Austria, near the border with Slovenia, were all lavishly equipped. All rode on 22-inch wheels and the anti-roll system. At first acquaintance the Porsche Cayenne Coupe seems a more coherent, more concise take on the sporty SUV concept than its German rivals. It rides better than the BMW X6 and feels more agile than the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Given Porsche's conservative approach to 0-60 times, the Turbo Coupe promises to be quicker than either the X6 M or the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. Sporty?

It's got an intriguing powertrain: a tiny 1.4-liter direct-injected four with both a supercharger and a turbo, linked to VW's seven-speed DSG. While Volkswagen GTIs are developed and built in house by the VW mothership, the R models are the responsibility of a newly created subsidiary known as Volkswagen R GmbH. But it was a heavy unit, and it had also reached the end of the road in emissions compliance. The four-cylinder turbo is lighter (which benefits handling agility), more economical, and cleaner. And it goes faster. There's not a lot wrong with the character of the new engine. The torque curve is steeper, so you need to be more attentive with the gears, but use the torque well and you've got a huge well of easy corner-exit thrust. And as fours go, it makes a charismatic noise when you wind it out toward redline, while remaining civilized enough for long-distance cruising. So while it doesn't have the instant throttle response of that big-capacity six, among its peers it is pretty quick-witted.

The ride quality goes from pavement-pounding to hydro-cushioned Citroen. Pushing the three-ton hulk over some of North Eastern Los Angeles's worst pavement was surreal. When it came time to craft the Touareg's interior, VW's accountants were bound, gagged and stuffed in a broom closet. It's fabulous. The parking brake pedal sports a re-enforcing piston. Should the trailer hitch fail, I have no doubt the luggage tie downs could substitute. Obviously, the Touareg V10 TDI is a ridiculous anachronism. And yet, aesthetics, badge, environmental responsibility and price aside, it's the finest all around car I've ever driven. Every trip is a special occasion- even if most of them end-up next to a trucker pumping diesel. The pudgy Volksie retains a sense of nobility that comes directly from the hand of Piech. I'm honestly sad that because of gas prices, we'll never see the uncompromising likes of the uber Touareg again. At least until next time.

The base model offers a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 which offers a nice balance between power, at 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, and fuel consumption, being able to return around 22 MPG on average with ease. Further up the model’s range there is also a 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 diesel which offers 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque while offering 26 MPG on average. The top of the range model for the two markets is a 3 liter supercharged V6 which is coupled with an electric motor, offering 380 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. The exterior of the new Touareg remained mostly unchanged since it was launched back in 2011 and the car only received minor tweaks. The 2018 model comes with slightly different LED headlights as well as a new option for the wheel’s designs on the range topping model. To this day the killings which occurred in 1995/6 have never been solved. In 1995 three girls went missing in the wealthy, fairly serene and innocent, leafy outer western suburb of Perth, Claremont. Sarah Spiers, 18, went missing on 26 January 1996.On 9 June 1996, Jane Rimmer, 23 went missing and was found dead at Woolcott Road at Wellard on August 1996, she was a child care worker. Her body was found on 3 April, near a track in scrub off Pipidinny Road in Eglinton, a northern suburb of Perth.All spent a Friday or Saturday evening at both the Claremont Hotel and Club Bayview a nightclub close by. On 14 March 1997, Ciara Glennon, a 27-year-old lawyer went missing.They later left on their own nobody saw anything suspicious. A twist though is that CCTV in club Bayview picked up Jane Rimmer talking to a mystery man who has never been identified.

All the hundreds of other people in the club that night were identified, hunted down and interviewed. The mystery man was the last person to see her alive and police are still searching for him. It is thought at least three other girls were also possible victims of the Claremont Serial Killer. 22 year old Julie Cutler went missing in 1988 from the same area. Her Volkswagen car was bizarrely found floating in the surf at Cottesloe beach the day after she went missing, she was never seen again. 17 year old Hayley Maree Dodd went missing in Gin Gin on, a country town about 50 kilometres west of Perth in 1997, while hitching a ride on the road. Circumstances- Hayley made a telephone call at 10.30am on Thursday 29/7/1999 and was given a lift by a lady to the North West Road, Badgingarra, WA. She was then sighted by a motorist on the North West Road walking towards the farm where she was going at 11.35am on the same day. That was the last sighting of her. Initially it was thought the girls were taken by a taxi driver, so the police interviewed and took DNA samples from every taxi driver in Perth. There were over 1500 of them. Police then had local businesses print, and donate wanted, and information posters in regard to the horrific crime, and had them handed out or posted all over Perth. This author owned a company called Eureka printing at the time and donated 10,000 posters. The state government then introduced a one million dollar reward, and the Macro Taskforce was formed. Headed by Detective Paul Ferguson, who later had to resign from this position, as he was charged with the rape of two prostitutes and later acquitted. He was later accused of stealing a dealers drugs, and again nothing happened to him. The next head of the task force was corrupt cop David Caphorn. Controversially and rather stupidly this taskforce invited members of the public to ring in and nominate suspects.

These mostly innocent people were then interviewed and DNA tested, in other words harassed. There were over 4000 suspects! I was later nominated as a suspect and interviewed and DNA tested only to be cleared and then 15 years later interviewed again and cleared in June, 2011 as were another 2000 innocent men! I am not happy about it. The ironic part about this is I was living in Perth at the time of course and had rung the police nominating a suspect of my own. A promiscuous, eccentric, lawyer mate of mine had started acting rather suspiciously. He had come to my home at 4 am one morning and broke down crying drunk in front of my wife and I, claiming he had killed somebody, but when questioned further he would not elaborate. The matter was forgotten until much later, when this bloke’s wife informed me that he had been at Club Bayview and the Claremont Hotel the nights all three girls went missing. Eberhard Schulz presented his first car in 1969. It was a Ford GT40 hand built replica called Erator GTE. The car made enough impression to grant Eberhard a job in Porsche. Next big step was the premiere of a concept car designed for Mercedes-Benz in 1978, model CW 311. Later it became a basis for own cars manufactured under the name Isdera. The new company was created in 1981 and next year presented barchetta type roadster, model Spyder 033. The prototype had Volkswagen Golf engine and Porsche 924 gearbox. With only 136hp power it was not very fast, therefore as the option Schulz foreseen Audi 2.1-litre 170hp turbo. Next models, Imperator 108i and Commendatore 112i, were true supercars with big V8 (Imperator) and V12 (Commendatore) Mercedes or AMG engines. First Imperator's engine had 5.0-litre capacity and delivered just 230hp, but that alone was enough to accelerate a light car to 60mph in less than 6 seconds. Later engines could have even more than 400hp. Commendatore in top specification was equipped with 6.9-litre AMG 600hp drive train combined with 6-speed manual transmission, allowing to reach 60mph below 3.5 sec. Finally in 2006 Schulz presented his own dream car, double engine, four wheel drive, huge Autobahnkurier 116i. The car truly out of this world. With summary of 10 liters displacement and 600hp net power packed in a retro style body, it remained just a prototype in the hands of its creator.

Recall that the data collection started a year after getting the car and 104 samples (about 2 samples per week) over a year, and only estimated to be evenly spaced two DCFC charging per week. But that’s close enough to real usage for this blog post (you didn't pay for it, did you?), and we extrapolate for many years using the same battery degradation equation from before. The years on x-axis are true years starting when the car was new. I extrapolated the data collected between year 1 to year 2 both ways, before data collection began (beginning of year 1 to year 0) and after last data collected (end of year 2 to end). One thing clear is that curves (green, blue, red) diverge significantly after about year 5. That means you won’t be able to tell which path the battery degradation is following until then. But even then, noisy data will make it hard to tell maybe until 5% divergence; raw data is fluctuating about 1kWh total, so 0.5 kWh deviations would be apparent.

Between blue and green, that occurs about year 8, the end of the warranty period. Linear decay (blue) assumes same number of charging per given time interval for all time, 104 DCFC per year plus X number of home charging. But if I’m to keep driving same number of miles per year, there will be more charging. Simply, each charge cycle would be capable of fewer miles due to degraded battery, and more charging is needed to drive the same number of miles. More charging per mile means more degraded battery. I plot this scenario as red plot. MrDRMorgan from SparkEV forum found that SparkEV battery warranty is to 65% in 8 years and 100K miles. If one follows linear trend (same number of charging per year, fewer miles driven each year), 65% would be reached well after eighth year. BUT if one drives the same number of miles by increasing the number of charging events, it could hit 65% in seventh year.

That could trigger the warranty service. It’s unknown what Chevy will do if that happens: they may not replace the battery with a new one, but one that is barely above 65% that will take it to eighth year. In any case, this is an unpleasant scenario to avoid. One might think that this is awful, but it may not be so bad. Biggest reason is that I have no idea what is the major contributor to capacity degradation. It may not be solely due to charge-discharge cycles that the red plot is based on. For most (all?) LiIon batteries, just letting it sit there would also cause degradation. If the major cause of degradation is time, then the degradation would follow blue curve (probably bit more since there'd be more charge-discharge cycles). How do you tell if the major contributor to degradation is time or charge-discharge cycles? If there are same model year cars with much different number of miles (more or less charge cycles) and in similar climate and "abuse" that show similar degradation, that would indicate more of time dependence.

Unfortunately, detailed battery capacity is hard to come by, not to mention finding other SparkEV with same usage pattern as mine. Even if the battery has degraded beyond 35% (65% remain), car would still be usable. How much is it usable depends on how far the DCFC stations are spaced. Currently in SoCal, DCFC between San Diego to Orange County is about 30 miles apart, which means car must be capable of 40 miles (10 miles as margin). From my first blog post, I estimated the car to last 10 years in amortizing purchase price / lease price. It seems it can barely reach 10 years with careful driving.
