The Audi A7 Sportback has just become slightly more attainable thanks to the introduction of a new entry-level diesel engine. Using Audi’s recent - and still seemingly arbitrary - naming strategy, the new model will be referred to as 45 TDI, sitting below the existing 50 TDI diesel and 55 TFSI petrol variants. Essentially, the new model features the same 3.0-litre V6 used by the 50 TDI, but in a lower state of tune. At 228bhp, it makes 52bhp less than the 50, but 13bhp more than the equivalent model in the old A7 Sportback. Maximum torque stands at 500Nm, spread widely across a 1,750rpm to 3,250rpm range. Driven through an eight speed automatic and quattro all-wheel drive, the 45 covers the 0-62mph benchmark in 6.5 seconds and can carry on to a 155mph top speed. Like the rest of the A7 range, the 45 TDI gets a 48-volt electrical system which allows for a mild hybrid drivetrain. This system lets the engine shut down at speeds between 34mph and 99mph when coasting, and can charge the car’s lithium ion battery through regenerative braking. When coming to a complete stop, the engine can disengage from 13mph to save extra fuel, while a front-facing camera detects when traffic ahead moves away, re-starting the engine in preparation. Prices start at £52,240 in Sport trim and rise to £55,140 for the S line. Standard equipment includes a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, a twin-touchscreen infotainment system, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display, LED lights front and rear and a rear-view camera. S line models gain 20-inch alloys, firmer suspension and Matrix LED lights which play fancy animations when the car is locked and unlocked.
Thought the 3 Series was the bread and butter BMW? No longer. Buyers are flocking to the X1, X3 and X5 SUVs; the bigger X7’s just arrived and then there are coupe-esque versions of each. The X5 started BMW’s SUV revolution back in 2001, so we throw keys to the current range-topping M50d to our family of testers. Jules: Life’s not fair. Iain: I’m expecting a First World problem coming. Jules: Yep. I’ve found the perfect car to satisfy my love of performance, luxury and practical space for the kids. I ain: So let me guess, the unfair bit is the price? 150,000 BMW charges for its X5 M50d, the world would be a happier place. Who gets to buy these things? Iain: Not motoring journos, obviously. But plenty of others do. Jules: Hence why they clog up private school car parks. 113K and makes more sense than our range-topper.
Jules: It’s hugely imposing. I’m not sure about the rear styling but the front is excellent. I ain: I’m the other way around. Back end looks fat and tough but the front looks as if it’s been punched in the face. The grille, blue bits in the Laserlight headlights and giant 22-inch alloys ooze bling. Jules: Who knew I’d be such a sucker for coffee-coloured quilted Merino leather seats? Iain: It was inevitable. It’s good to not have boring black leather or easily marked white seats. It’s a lavishly impressive cabin, isn’t it? Jules: I know it’s expensive but the comfort, layout, dual 12.3-inch screens, massive panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled cup holders and pumping Harman Kardon audio make me want to live in here. 900. They don’t miss you. Jules: It’s just money, eh? If I’ve any complaint, the ambient lighting could be brighter, like in a Mercedes. Iain: Nope. Too bright and ambient lighting is vulgar.
It’s not a disco. Jules: There’s a crafted glass gear shifter and dial, of course it’s a disco. 1200 for these glitter balls by the way. Jules: I can’t believe it’s a diesel engine. I ain: BMW’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel has for ages been a work of magic. They’ve strapped four — yes, four — turbos to this one. Jules: Four turbos to go wrong in future? Iain: Cynic. Outputs are 294kW/760Nm, meaning a 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds for this big brute. Jules: Effortless cruising and it’s so much fun when you open the taps and surge forward. Iain: It’s got all the expected clever tricks, such as head-up display on the windscreen, and stays between the lanes by itself. Its low-profile tyres on the 22-inch wheels may be grippy but boy do you feel the road bumps through them. Jules: I really wanted to take it shopping at Tiffanys but Woolies had to do.
A conceptual twist on a British institution has been unveiled in the form of the Volkswagen London Taxi Concept - the latest evolution in a series of 'World Taxis' (Berlin & Milano) based on the underpinnings of the forthcoming UP! The man behind the project, Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design at Volkswagen, unveiled the car in Central London. Designed to meet the challenges faced by vehicles in modern cities, with ever tighter restrictions on space and emissions, the Volkswagen London Taxi Concept is powered by an electric motor fed by lithium-ion batteries. With a capacity of 45 kW/h the batteries allow the electric motor to generate a maximum power output of 115 PS, translating to a theoretical top speed of 74 mph. The range of the Volkswagen London Taxi Concept is estimated at 186 miles between charges with an 80 per cent charge taking around one hour to complete. The Concept, which measures 3,730 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, is shorter than the current smallest Volkswagen, the Fox.
However its long wheelbase and minimal front and rear overhangs allow it to have a spacious cabin with room for two adults to be seated in comfort plus an allocated area for luggage. At the front, the driving environment is similarly spacious, an impression emphasised by the large glass area. The theme running throughout the vehicle is simplicity, with an elegant, clutter-free look to the interior. The major functions of the vehicle including climate, entertainment and fare information are all grouped onto one touchscreen display mounted next to the driver. In the back a similar screen relays information to the passengers on their route and their immediate environment. Despite its modest size, the Volkswagen London Taxi Concept feels luxurious, with use of cream leather and individual, as opposed to bench, seats. The styling draws on that of the UP! Blue concept cars and features deliberately tongue-in-cheek details such as the silver Union Jack on the roof and the City of London's coat of arms resplendent on either side of the vehicle as well as on the dashboard. Elegant daytime running lights mounted within the headlight units are joined by a distinctive 'Taxi' light on the roof. This has two settings - it glows green, indicating when it's free and red when it's not.

Volkswagen have launched a new flagship for the Touareg range. The Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 this week. It’s engine has been lifted from the Bentley Bentayga diesel! With power ratings of 421 hp and 900 Nm of torque, the 4.0 litre V8 unit is the most powerful diesel powered SUV on the market. With that sort of power, it is no surprise that the Touareg accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. What’s more, it complies with the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. Inside, the range topping SUV gets premium Vienna leather as standard. The interior features Volkswagen’s Innovision Cockpit incorporating a digital dashboard with an infotainment system. Volkswagen also promise tanned leathers, aluminium and chrome details together with wood interior pieces. The Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI also gets an active all-wheel steering system and a roll stabilisation system with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars. The lighting system is Volkswagen’s “IQ.Light - LED matrix headlight”. Deliveries begin in May.
CPO vehicles must pass a 100-plus point inspection. Additional benefits like towing and roadside assistance may be available, so read the Volkswagen warranty page carefully. According to our analysis, Volkswagen's CPO program isn't as robust as those of most other automakers, including Mercedes, Acura, and Buick. How Safe Is the Touareg? The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2017 VW Touareg its top rating of Good in all four crash evaluations. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not evaluated the 2017 Touareg. The Touareg comes loaded with safety features, including a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive headlights that follow your steering movements, forward collision warning with brake assist, and adaptive cruise control. A 360-degree-view camera comes with the Executive trim. Which Is Better: 2017 Volkswagen Touareg or 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE? The Touareg and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLE are two of the best options in the class for ride comfort.
The GLE has an outstanding interior, with posh features like air suspension and massaging front seats. 13,000 more than the Touareg’s. Even a fully loaded Touareg is likely to cost less than a base model GLE. The Touareg comes with many features you won’t get in its base Mercedes-Benz rival, including a navigation system, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. The Touareg is the better, more affordable choice. Which Is Better: 2017 Volkswagen Touareg or 2017 Acura MDX? Both of these SUVs are more-than-capable family haulers, but the 2017 Acura MDX is the better choice. The MDX has seven seats and nearly 27 cubic feet more overall cargo space than the Touareg. With the Acura MDX, you get more family-friendly options - like a rear-seat DVD player, which the Touareg doesn’t offer. Additionally, the MDX’s engine is stronger and more fuel-efficient. How Does the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg Drive? The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg is powered by a 280-horsepower V6 engine that delivers smooth acceleration but not quite enough power for the SUV’s weight.
An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. The Touareg has composed handling and a cushioned ride. Does the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg Get Good Gas Mileage? The 2016 VW Touareg gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is average for the class. The Volkswagen Touareg has a 7,716-pound towing capacity, making it one of the most capable tow vehicles in the luxury midsize SUV class. How Many People Does the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg Seat? The 2-row VW Touareg seats five. The front seats are roomy and supportive, and the driver’s seat position provides excellent front and side visibility. The rear features reclining seats that can comfortably accommodate a pair of adults. Leatherette upholstery and heated front seats are standard; genuine leather, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats are available. The cabin is elegantly styled and composed of soft-touch plastics, high-quality chrome, and real wood accents.
The dashboard’s simple design makes it easy to access the stereo and climate controls. How Many Car Seats Fit in the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg? The Touareg’s LATCH car-seat system includes two sets of lower anchors and three sets of upper tether anchors. The base trim comes with dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, an eight-speaker audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, a navigation system, heated and rain-sensing windshield wipers, and Volkswagen’s Car-Net telematics system. Some models may come with a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, and a Dynaudio 10-speaker premium audio system. The easy-to-read touch screen features sharp graphics and intuitive menus. It also responds quickly to user inputs. The audio and climate controls are well-arranged and straightforward. With 32.1 cubic feet of cargo room behind the back seats and 64 cubic feet with the seats folded, the Touareg has an average amount of rear storage space for the class. Inside, there are plenty of small-item storage spaces. A remote-opening liftgate is standard, and a hands-free power liftgate is available. The 2017 Volkswagen Touareg is 15.7 feet long. The gas-engine Touareg has a curb weight of 4,696 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 6,173 pounds.
At first glance first thoughts may that the Passat CC(with Car DVD) is a frugal diesel family car. With a sleek and pretty exterior, you would think it has been designed in order to achieve maximum fuel economy. While this may be true for the diesel iteration of this unique saloon, for the V6 FSI model, it could not be further from the truth. With underpinnings borrowed from the notorious Passat R36, it is what some would call a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’, a sleeper. This is what I love most about the V6 CC, the element of surprise. Moreover, there’s little distinguishing it from the standard 125 TDI from the exterior. Other than Interlago 18″ wheels and a dual exhaust outlet, the two cars cannot be differentiated. Opening the pillarless doors and stepping inside, the quality of the craftsmanship is apparent and frankly, you would not accept less from a German-built car. The two tone black and cashmere coloured Nappa leather makes for a beautiful atmosphere. Glancing over the dash reveals a simple elegance with clearly illustrated dials. The infotainment system strikes a perfect balance between sleekness and usable buttons.
Even the key fob has a simple elegance about it, slotting into ignition with a satisfying click. Upon startup you are greeted with the wonderful rumble of Volkswagen’s best engine, the narrow angle 3.6L V6. With the interior coming alive, little details become apparent, like the LED lighting beneath the door spears, LED footwell lighting and beautiful self-levelling and cornering Xenon headlamps. The major let down of the interior would have to be the steering wheel. There is nothing differentiating it from the standard wheel found in every other VW. Paddle shifters are present, however, and the construction of the wheel is much like the rest of the car, impeccable. Moving through the interior, there is seating for 4 with heated seats for all, dual zone climate control and a rather nifty 30GB HDD for music with a Car DVD player. The optional Dynaudio system is so powerful and clear that it will leave the teenager within you giggling and driving laps around the local hotspot. Rear occupants may complain of little head room in the back, but if this is a problem then the CC is not for you, buy a standard, boring Passat.
The CC comes alive on a spirited drive through a beautiful silk road. Engaging the sport setting on the suspension and DSG keeps the revs high and in the sweet spot of the luscious VR6. It’s hard to believe that VW quotes 220kw and 350NM of torque as it feels much quicker. The steering gives you confidence and the 4Motion AWD system allows you to take the car to the edge and remain in control. Keen drivers, however, will notice that it is a little floaty through hard cornering even with the Sport setting engaged. Moving from a stop, you feel the jerk of the clutches engaging in the DSG, however, this is reduced once you slide the beautifully grafted lever into manual mode. Gear changes are exactly what we have come to expect from the VW DSG: clean and crisp with a slight “gshhht” thanks to the torque tags on full throttle gear changes. The brakes are a tad touchy however provide a great feel and stop the car with millimeter precision. Do not be fooled into thinking this car is a dedicated sports car. Once the suspension setting into normal or even comfort, you have a compliant, quiet luxury cruiser that allows you to ride in unique style. Overall, any preconceived opinions of this being just another dull Passat have been completely blown away. This is not a regular family car, but a vehicle for the enthusiast in need of some extra space. In fact, I loved this car so much that I bought one. If installing an Android Car Stereo, that would be perfect.

Christmas Gifts IdeasTen Suggestions is a complete Guide to Christmas gifts shopping and giving. It suggests what points to keep in mind while shopping for and giving Christmas presents. Christmas gift giving is a beautiful tradition. However, the tradition of gift giving is thousands of years old. We hear or read of accounts of gift giving in ancient times also. People visiting dignitaries and kings carried appropriate gifts, while the dignitaries and kings also gave gifts to people on important or religious occasions. In fact, when Christ was born he is supposed to be brought gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense by the Magi (incidentally, the English word magic is derived from it) or three Wise Men or three Kings from the East. What points we should bear in mind while selecting and giving Christmas gifts? 1. Go about it in an Organized Way: Christmas shopping is not for the last moment.
You could buy future gift items all the year round, especially when there is some sale. Likewise, prepare your list of persons whom to give Christmas gifts and what items to give well in advance. Keep some margin for last minute additions, especially for reciprocal gifts. 2. Make Your Budget and Try not to Exceed it: In the spirit of Christmas one may be tempted to buy and give expensive gifts. On the other hand one should not be miser also. Try to keep a balance. If you give unique and personalized gifts even less costly things will be appreciated much. 3. Gift Wrapping and Presenting: Always gift wrap your presents nicely. Dont give without gift wrapping. Worse still, dont wrap into an already used gift paper. Try to remove or erase the price tag/sticker. While presenting give with a smile! 4. Give Gifts in the Appropriate Price Range: While there is no price limit on gifts, one should not give too cheap or too costly gifts.
Such gifts become a matter of embarrassment rather than joy because people think of reciprocity also. It is a good idea to give symbolic gifts of flowers, personalized or hand-made gifts to wealthy persons, as your costly gifts may seem cheap to them! 5. Dont Reveal the Gift before Time: Always keep an element of surprise in your gifts. Dont reveal before hand what you intend to give. Similarly, dont take the gift recipient with you to buy gift for him/her, except in case of family, especially children who would not be satisfied with any other thing than what they really want. Taking a person with you for buying gift may also cause embarrassment if the person chooses a gift of higher price than you had intended to buy. 6. Keep in the Mind the Future of Gift Giving Tradition: Before giving Christmas gifts also think whether you are going to keep this tradition with the recipients in the future also.
For example, if you are giving gifts to your colleagues in your old office where you no longer work, consider whether you would continue relationship with them. 7. Try to Find out What Gifts are Expected: In case of your family and friends try to find out what they might be expecting from you or what their secret wishes are. Dont ask them directly. 8. Reciprocal and Last Minute Additions Gifts: Even if it is a reciprocal gift or a gift to a person who was not included in your original list, dont let the recipient know this and feel unimportant. 9. Give Intangible Gifts also: The costliest gift given with an unsmiling face is worthless. The costliest gift given with a feeling of animosity is worthless. The costliest gift without love is worthless. A gift is a statement of love and a promise of continued love. 10. Give to Needy and Poor also: Set aside a portion of your budget for the needy and poor whom you may not know.
Make their Christmas bright. I would highly recommend that you read, if already read re-read, the all time favorite and classical short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. This is about how a poor couple sacrifices their dearest possession for giving the best gift to each other. On gift giving, there is a beautiful Indian story also. Once upon a time, there was a poor farmer who grew a beautiful lotus flower in his pond when there was draught in the region. He thought that he would get a good price for it. While he was taking it to the market for selling the riches man of the region approached him and asked the price. Simultaneously, the king of the region also arrived and he also wanted to buy the flower. Both of them competed with each other and offered higher and higher price. The farmer asked them why they wanted the flower so desperately. They told him that Lord Buddha was in the town and they wanted to offer the flower to him. The farmer thought that if they were offering such huge sums for a flower for offering to Lord Buddha, he must really be God. He told the buyers that he no longer wanted to sell the flower. He went and offered the flower at the feet of Lord Buddha! LIVE THE LIFE BEAUTIFUL!
The 2019 BMW X5 is the fourth generation of the Bayerische Motoren Werke, or, translated into English, Bavarian Motor Works luxury brand’s popular crossover. The most significant changes are the technology under the skin and in the interior. Matte wood trim, piano black trim and Merino leather are included in the interior upgrades. Not to be outdone by Orrefors crystal shifter in the Volvo, BMW has created a glass shift lever of its own. For the first time, BMW is offering 22-inch wheels as an option. The panoramic sky-lounge gives the x5 a feeling of roominess and the 15,000 lights make me think of the Rolls-Royce stargazing roof. The split tailgate is automatic and has anti-slip rails. BMW’s live cockpit is a delightful addition to the idrive. The voice control allows you to say you are too hot or too cold and to tell the car what temperature you would like it to be reset at for your convenience.
There are still analog knobs for the most commonly used functions, and the digital changes are intuitive. Gesture controls to raise or lower the volume control is a start and a fun technology to show off to people that have never seen it before. Inductive wireless charging for your iPhone available as an option. But my favorite is the hot or cold cupholders. Ok, maybe my second favorite. The first could be the massaging seats. The fourth generation BMW X5 has some big tires to fill; the first generation (1999-2006) sold over 600,000 units, the second generation (2006-2013) sold over 725,000 units, the third generation (2013-2018) sold over 750,000 units. BMW calls that SUXESS! However, in a segment with a growth rate of over 20 percent, BMW has to make sure this X5 competes in this segment and can bring in any stragglers on the bottom or top end of the competition. BMW decided to take us off-roading to show us the neat tricks and technology they have incorporated in the new BMW X5. They added a 30-minute excursion into the Georgia woods using Rock driving mode, in M2, to the Driving Experience.
The ability to see in front of you through the 12.3-inch NAV monitor took a lot of the guesswork away. My SUV had the available off-road package with an automatic locking rear differential, adjustable two-axle air suspension, and underbody protection, along with cameras on every corner and hill descent control system. I really got a feel for the integral active steering technology on the off-road course. The 20.7′ turning radius handles the tight corners with ease. It’s not just off-roading; parallel parking in tight spaces will be so much easier. It will take some time to get used to just like it did with me. IAS was first shown in a BMW in the F01 7-series in 2008. This is the first time it has been an option on a BMW X-SUV. The difference is in the turning radius, with IAS you get about 1 meter, about 3 feet, better turning radius.
I am always looking for a good turning radius. I have a circular driveway, and a big truck takes a three-point turn to go around the fountain in the middle of the drive. It was a breeze to drive this SUV in my driveway. With Integral Active Steering (IAS), at speeds up to 30 mph, a small turn of the steering wheel yields a more significant turn of the front wheels for a more direct response. IAS also steers the rear wheels up to 2.5 degrees in the opposite direction, giving the effect of a shortened wheelbase for enhanced maneuverability. When changing lanes at speeds over 50 mph, both front and rear wheels turn in the same direction, giving the feel of an extended wheelbase. While you are experiencing greater responsiveness and directional stability, your passengers will enjoy greater ride comfort from reduced body roll. Front axle Electronic Power Steering unit with variable steering rack geometry. 4,000 Adaptive Chassis group. The Lamborghini Urus Rear-Wheel Steering is fitted to supplement the active torque-vectoring system creating four-wheel steering. Lexus GS’s Dynamic Rear-Wheel Steering added to the F Sport’s Lexus Dynamic Handling package adds four-wheel steering. Porsche Cayenne offers four-wheel steering as an option.
We can’t imagine too many Australian roads where Sport would make much sense. Best to leave it in the gentler settings, then. Combined with the hushed engine and quiet cabin it makes for a serene experience. The Touareg is also beautifully controlled, its broad footprint adding to the reassurance in corners and the tyres providing ample grip. The steering is a tad numb, but it’s a minor gripe in an otherwise accomplished dynamic equation that eats up the kilometres with ease. What’s it like off the road? The extent of our off-road involved snow-smattered gravel roads, which the Touareg handled with no issues. While it has 213mm of ground clearance, it’s more soft-roader, albeit with some basic electronic extras to help you along. The Offroad and Snow modes in the driver select system tailor throttle response and traction control to maximise traction and control. But, again, we’d be keeping things on the softer side rather than getting too rugged, something reinforced with the lack of a full-sized spare tyre. Does it have a spare? There’s a spare wheel and tyre but it’s a skinny space saver that needs to be inflated before use with the onboard compressor.
Volkswagen is not giving up and for good. The German giants have rapidly but heavily loaded the Indian markets with the best of their lot in order to boost their sales and create a serious foothold in the Indian automobile sector. VW has always been known fro their out of league and extraordinary quality which makes even the lowest of their car ranges feel luxurious. The feeling just gets better with Touareg VW's very own off-roader which comes jam packed with technology. Let's take a look at this German rhino and determine whether we can take it for an Indian safari. The Touareg's design though not cutting edge, is elegant muscular and aggressive. It will quickly be noticed due its front which embodies a chrome style shield shaped radiator grill, beautiful head light casings and chrome trim. The R18 "valley" alloy wheels add to the whole look. This is complimented by a chrome surround for the central air intake and high gloss pillar frames. All these things will definitely pull Touareg out of the SUV crowd in the Indian market.
You know it's posh inside if you see a VW badge on the face of a machine and the Touareg is no exception. The lush interior includes a four-zone climatronic automatic climate control system, heated leather seats, multifunction steering wheel with mounted controls for audio, telephone, navigation, and cruise control and a chrome edged dash. The instrument panel looks awesome with two distinct dials for revs and speedo and all the info you need in there. Five persons can sit comfortably in the Touareg. The driver's seat offers high levels of comfort. Though all the leather seats are comfortably contoured, the legroom in the middle is quite tight and stiff. As there is no third row of seats, it offers generous cargo space ideal for outdoors and camping. There is a fantastic audio set available with Touareg which has a 6 cd-changer in the rear and 300W output but a 600-watt Danish hi-fi audio system is available as optional equipment. The Touareg possesses independent front and rear double wishbone suspensions with steel springs and anti-roll bars. The handling is hugely responsive. The Touareg is offered in two-wheel drive configuration but a Four-wheel drive option is available to be added. Navigation system and Bluetooth technology are welcome additions. VW's safety standards are never to be questioned and Touareg just re affirms the same. Touareg is available in only one variant and five colors namely; Campenalla White (solid shade) and Reflex Silver, Galapagos Anthracite, Reed Green and Shadow Blue (all metallic shades). For such luxury you are bound to pay and buying a Touareg will make your pockets lighter by Rs. 51, 85, 000 (and that is just ex-showroom, Delhi).
The interiors of Hyundai Verna Fluidic look alike the premium saloons. The seats of top end variants of Verna Fluidic are mated with premium leather upholstery. The quality of design and quality of dash board too is appreciable. The door inners have got wooden trims and leather mating. Both front and rear cabin of this car offer ample of leg-room and shoulder space to enable 5 passengers accommodate with ease. Bold and crystal clear headlamps give the impact of her bewitching eyes. And its smartly tagged fog lamps alongside headlamps give the clear vision of passageway in foggy days. Apart from this other Hyundai cars in India are Hyundai Accent, Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Sonata, and Hyundai Tucson. Along with this Hyundai has also launched Hyundai EON in the market as the latest entrant. The car is based on a completely novel platform with a huge wheel base of 2570mm. It is also heavily studded with some ultra-high tensile strength steel. This means that you can now expect the car to listen to you more eagerly with improved handling and better NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels. All this is a result of Hyundai spending a whopping Rs. 900crore in the development of the new Verna. Hence, 2011 Hyundai Verna with its new launch has earned a good market split as the car is power-packed and encumbered with some new and innovative features. Not only this, the success story of Hyundai Verna has been taken beyond expectations followed by the launch of new Hyundai Verna Specs.
According to a new survey by JD Power and Associates, approximately one third of consumers in the United States consider fuel economy to be a key factor when purchasing a new car. In order to get a better idea of what General Motors has been doing for the last 25 years, it is important to first learn about another amazing vehicle: The GM TPC. The TPC (which stands for Two Person Commuter) was able to obtain 75 miles-per-gallon. It weighed approximately 1000 pounds and resembled a Geo Metro. GM abandoned the project vehicle, which contained a frugal 3-cylinder engine, when they needed to add another 200 pounds of reinforcement. This unfortunate turn of events can be blamed on GMs need to comply with Americas then lax safety laws. While the existence of such a vehicle may be shocking to some, what is even more shocking is the existence of other prototypes made by General Motors that met the same demise. These vehicles included the GM Lean Machine (80 MPG) in 1982, along with a number of other fuel efficient vehicles like the GM Aero-X, the GM Aero 2000, and the finally the GM Ultralite (which had achieved 100 miles-per-gallon).
While Honda was leading the world with the Civic VX in 1992 (achieving 50 miles-per-gallon) the USA- owned General Motors was producing 100 MPG vehicles behind the scenes, all the while selling 20 MPG vehicles to the public. 100 miles per gallon is not only obtainable, but it already has been obtained. One obvious question must be asked. Why are these high gas mileage vehicles not available for sale? Why do companies like General Motors, Honda, Toyota, and Ford continue to sell 30 MPG vehicles when something so much better was made before? The answer to that question is, of course, a complex one. Market analyses, surveys, polls, government regulations, and other red tape held back efficiency. The short answer to this question is simple: While the U.S. America, by the same companies. Vehicles that can attain over 70 miles per gallon have been sold in Europe and Japan for many years. Recently, Volkswagen produced a vehicle called the Lupo that is a perfect example.
Vento the name is not just juxtaposing of two common English words. In fact it is a genuine Italian word which means wind and a fair wind. The company with the launch of the Volkswagen Polo based saloon will hope that the winds change for the better of the newly launched Vento. The Vento has a lot of reputation at stake and has to be better than the Polo in every possible way if it has to make some mark in the market. Then there is the competition in the market from the likes of the Honda City as well the Vento has to face. The car is a midsized saloon which is built with the right proportions and the German understated style statement is powered by robust drivetrains. The Volkswagen Vento meant for the Indian terrain comes with a better ground clearance suited for the humpy and bumpy roads.
It does have a flipside with a meager 15-inch wheel for the high end variants which gives the car the feeling of having weak knees. The only solace is the slightly wider rear track compared to the Polo which gives way for a very spacious rear seat. The insides of the car are also heavily drawn from the controlled German with lot of under tones. The dashboard is a no nonsense and functional in its purpose with some useful controls to make the journey smooth. The quality of the interior is really appreciable and is the first thing that will take your breath away once you step inside the car. The car has also paid some attention to details like the seat adjustment feature for both the front and the rear occupants. The support is quite high and easily accommodates up to three people in the back without any congestion. The front seats are also equally well cushioned and have some solid studding. For the desi market, the car comes in two engine variants of 1.6-litre that delivers up to 105bhp in the petrol version and a 1.6-litre with 105bhp for the diesel. Both engines are equipped with a 5-speed manual along with the option of a six-speed auto gear transmission in the spark ignition engine. The auto does take you around but you might not quite feel the same adrenaline. The Petrol motor of the car peaks at torque of 15.8kgm at 3800rpm. This will surely require some gearlever work, especially when you want to overtake. The car is a cruiser type around the town and for cruising at triple digit speeds. But if your adrenaline kicks in then there is not much to fill that void.

Finely atomized by a screen, the urea is transformed in the hot exhaust gases upstream of the catalytic converter. In the SCR catalytic converter, it reacts with the nitrogen oxides and splits them into nitrogen and water. The aqueous AdBlue additive is nontoxic, odorless and biodegradable. On average, AdBlue consumption is about 1.0 liter per 620 miles (1,000 kilometers). Service garages can easily handle refilling of the very inexpensive AdBlue. As an alternative, the driver can refill small quantities of AdBlue solution underway without any great difficulties using a practical drip-free spare bottle. Beyond the SCR catalytic converter, Volkswagen engineers have come up with an entire bundle of innovative modifications. Combustion chamber sensors are being implemented for the first time, which monitor pressure conditions in the cylinders. Meanwhile, a new third generation common rail system with 2,000 bar injection pressure atomizes the fuel so that it is exceptionally fine. The targeted ideal combustion enhances quiet running and reduces raw emissions in general. Another technical highlight is the integrated intercooler for the turbocharger. A total of two intercoolers are used here.
When the engine is cold, an automatic bypass door isolates the coolers from the system to ensure that the V6 TDI reaches its ideal operating temperature even quicker and attains optimal efficiency. In general, however, reducing emissions, especially NOx raw emissions, takes the form of internal engine modifications such as lower maximum temperatures in the combustion chambers and reduced oxygen concentration by exhaust gas recirculation. The nitrogen oxides that are still produced despite these modifications reach the new SCR catalytic converter where they are removed, as already described. As engineers began to develop the V6 TDI, their first goal was to further optimize all aspects of combustion. The result is that a world’s first is celebrating its entry into high-volume production in the Clean Diesel: the combustion chamber sensor. Integrated in the glow pencil, the sensor continually measures pressure conditions in the cylinder and reports the data to engine management. This enables perfect control of injection and combustion for each cylinder; it is even possible to compensate for fluctuating fuel qualities. Ideal combustion helps to reduce raw emissions. It also optimizes quiet running and noise behavior. The common rail injection system that has undergone intensive advanced development serves the same purposes. With a new high pressure pump design (CP 4.2), the system builds up a pressure of 2,000 bar - this is new too. The piezo injectors also appear in a significantly modified form. Their smaller eight-hole nozzles inject fuel into the combustion chambers in miniscule volumes. This new design and its higher pressure make injection even more precise and dynamic - detailed work that in sum has produced one of the most fuel efficient and cleanest six-cylinder diesel engines in the world.
This engine produces a maximum power of 241 PS (238 bhp - 177 kW) at 6250 rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm (236 lb.ft) at 2800 rpm. The power is transmitted to the road by the all wheel drive (AWD) with a 6 speed Manual gearbox. About chassis details responsible for road holding, handling behaviour and ride confort, the Golf 4 has Independent. McPherson. coil springs. anti-roll bar front suspension and Multilink. Coil springs. anti-roll bar rear suspension. Stock tire sizes are 225 / 40 on 18 inch rims at the front, and 225 / 40 on 18 inch rims at the rear. For stopping power, the Golf 4 R32 braking system includes Vented Discs at the front and Vented Discs at the rear. The Golf 4 model is a car manufactured by Volkswagen, sold new from year 2002 to 2003, and available after that as a used car.
The overall styling of the Golf 6 GTI continues the heritage of sporting looks with a touch of class - we like it. When we tested VW's new 1,4-litre TSI Golf 6 we commented that "we immediately felt at home behind the controls - like slipping into your favourite pair of jeans". Well the new GTI is no different, except for one thing, it's a GTI! Heavily bolstered seats, a chunky 3-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, brushed stainless-steel covered pedals and decorative red seams on the steering wheel, gearshift surround and leather parking brake, immediately tell you this is not an average Golf. Instruments and controls are clearly legible, easy to reach and operate. The decorative inserts in the doors and instruments are finished in a black, high-gloss metallic look, which serve to round off a high quality interior. Another key to the GTI's success, has always been its ability to carry four people in comfort with a respectable sized boot for their luggage.
This latest variant is no different and with between 350 and 1305-litres of carrying capacity, it will easily cope with the majority of your cargo needs. These attributes help to make the Golf GTI a hot hatch with a family focus - and if you're travelling with loved ones you'll be pleased to know that the new GTI is fitted with an arsenal of safety features. Suffice to say the Golf 6 has received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and even includes whiplash-optimised head restraints. The steering wheel fits snugly into your hands as you quickly find your ideal driving position. Paddle shifters are at your finger tips for rapid-fire gear changes. The sports seats hug you in anticipation of the drive ahead. Turn the key and the engine bursts into life and settles down to a quiet idle. Slot the DSG box into gear and as you pull off, the twin exhausts leave a burble in your wake. The ride is what you'd expect from a GTI, firm, but not jarring and comfortable on all but the bumpiest roads.
Initially it feels as if the suspension might be too compliant but this theory is quickly dismissed as you up the pace through the turns. New to the sixth generation GTI is the addition of what VW call the XDS differential. Essentially this is an extension of the electronic limited-slip differential and helps to eliminate understeer by anticipating conditions where one front wheel is likely to break free and then preventatively applies braking force. As a result, the GTI has fantastic road manners and really does handle well, even when pushed to the limits, the ESP brings everything under control in a smooth and efficient manner. Feedback from the steering is positive and provides a good feel for the road, although turn-in is sharper than expected and took us a bit of time to get used to. We couldn't help feel that the efficiency of the DSG took some of the fun out of the drive. It can't provide the connection to the engine and wheels like a manual gearbox can and in a hot-hatch that is part of the fun. Being responsible for the co-ordination of steering, brakes, throttle and gears is what a driver's car is all about.
It's a rewarding feeling when you get it right and the reason why driving is so exciting for most. Among the current hot-hatch line-up (think R26, OPC, and ST) the new GTI is still the least powerful and the figures don't stir up excitement. Power continues to come from VW's 2,0-litre 16-valve turbocharged 'EA-888′ motor. Now in it's second stage of development, VW engineers have not simply added new or upgraded ECU software. The engine has received new components such as modified pistons and piston rings, a regulated oil pump, a new vacuum pump, a new high-pressure fuel pump and a new mass airflow sensor. The result is 155 kW at 5 300 rpm and 280 N.m of torque from 1 700 rpm to 5 200 rpm. Driving the new Golf GTI the additional 7 kW over the previous model are noticeable. This GTI feels quick. Coupled with the DSG box, VW claim zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 238 km/h, ensuring the GTI can run with the pack. A flat torque curve gives the GTI great all round drive ability. Whether dawdling around town, overtaking on the open road, or racing between corners, the lump of torque is always at your disposal and ensures swift progress. New face of the VW range and rear diffuser add a stylish edge to the GTI. Well balanced chassis and handling provides quick and exciting driving. Enough power, comfort and space to carry four people, or leave them at home and burn rubber. A new set of 18-inch wheels to match the rest of the styling changes. We'd spec a few optional extras for luxury and convenience, but overall the GTI remains the best all-round hot-hatch - for now.
As we're approaching the end of year 2011, let's look at the year in terms of some car ideas and "innovations" that didn't really succeed. In fact, in some way or another, they actually failed, and pretty bad at that. As the auto industry competes to sell cars, many companies became more profitable than others due to the design, gas efficiency, and new ideas that their cars provided. Take a look at some car ideas that actually flopped in terms of sales, profitability, marketability, and overall unoriginality. For one, car companies that tried to design crossover models either are highly successful, or fail miserably. For crossovers to succeed, car producers need to focus on two key components - handling and visibility for the drivers and passengers. The reliability of Crossovers in 2011 have been very low or well below average with 5 year of ownership of these vehicles. Another way to scope out an automotive flop is to look at dwindling sales numbers coupled with bad automotive reviews. Along with the idea of new car designs that fall short of expectations, we see another common characteristic of cars that fail. Regressive redesigns pretty much sums it up. When car companies run out of ideas, the worst thing they can do is to go back on a design that actually succeeded but were not included in the new version due to poor planning and design. On other occasions, the redesign of a car may actually do great in one country - say China or Japan but are a complete flop in the United States Markets.
You can say the same about the bigger A3. In a nutshell, that's a bigger and more expensive A1 (or Volkswagen Golf for that matter). When I say expensive. A well specified A1, with a 1.0 litre, turbocharged unit, will set you back nearly £30,000. Put into consideration that a Ford Fiesta ST is around £10,000 cheaper. Not only will Ford's small car be quicker, but way more fun pound for pound than the Audi. You're getting way more car for your money here. Then you can go on about the other similarly priced junior Hot Hatches in that price bracket. In the VAG stable, you can save around £7,000, and get a VW Polo GTi. Or for the near the price of that A1, a SEAT Leon Cupra R! Need I say more? In the grand scheme of things. Does the soft-touch plastics, and the kudos of the Audi badge, justify the premium? Over the already decent and well-rounded and well-rounded Polo that it's based on? Then you have the cheaper Skoda Fabia, and SEAT Ibiza, that shares much in common with it too. For me, no. I'm sorry to say this, but the Audi A1 is overpriced, over hyped and overrated. You're not getting much more car for the extra cash here, are you? To sum it all up, the Audi A1 has the qualities and merits of those songs made and composed by Phil Collins. But a number of people who'll have one, will aspire to be more like Gemma Collins. Cast the image aside, the Audi A1 is expensive for what it is.
Is shoefiti an art? Are you wondering why people hang shoes on power lines? Well, I was too! Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines art as: “the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects.” The controversy lies in what connotes aestheticism, naturally beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Generally speaking, I do not find graffiti particularly artistic, perhaps because I don't appreciate public defacement of bridges, buildings, trains, and signs. I have, upon occasion, however been impressed by the sheer talent exhibited by some of these graffiti artists. I've taken a second glance and wished this artistic expression was painted onto a more appropriate canvas. Strangely, I am mesmerized by shoefiti. Shoe tossing has been observed in areas of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico and Ecuador. This art form is shrouded in mystery which helps perpetuate the fascination behind shoe flinging.
Some have theorized it began as a military practice as early as World War II, where soldiers would fling their combat boots over a telephone or power line to symbolize the completion of active duty or basic training. These boots were often spray painted orange. Other such rites of passage have been implicated in this ritual such as: graduations, births or marriage. In Scotland, shoefiti is associated with a young man's loss of virginity. Shoe trees frequent college campuses, perhaps following Scotland's tradition, or as a symbol of a particularly successful sexual conquest. Some shoes might dangle to represent an athlete's achievement of shoes that have reached their xxxth mile. Supposedly, drug seekers need only look to the house closest to the hanging shoes to score. Symbolism is attached to the hanging shoes for the heroin user, as once the drug has taken you, walking away is no longer possible. Or perhaps that heroin addiction will steal the very shoes off your feet. Many argue the drug house marking, saying no dealer would be so stupid as to point law authorities to the location of a drug hub.

As well, unlike the LEAF and Bolt, and despite multiple drive modes, the VW will not come to a full stop even when set in its most aggressive regenerative mode. Having said that, the e-Golf is the quickest to have you back on the road as a Level 2 full charge will supply you with 201 km of range in about 4.5 hours. If you’re travelling, an 80% charge can be achieved in 30 minutes through a Level 3 charging station. The elements we love most about the 2018 VW e-Golf are its styling and drive. From a distance, the e-Golf is virtually indistinguishable from a regular Golf with the exception of the “C”-shaped daytime running LED lights. The cabin too is lifted from VW’s best-selling car and loaded with most high-end features. Here, the VW’s roomy interior works well when handling a baby seat and passengers. The boot is tight but an average-sized stroller, larger than the umbrella type but smaller than mine, will fit with ease. What Volkswagen’s done is simple. They’ve taken what’s best from the Golf and transplanted it into the e-Golf.
To those who fear that driving an EV is mundane, we say take a VW’s electric car for a spin. The ride is fun, dynamic and involving. Steering is responsive and the suspension’s damping is equal part comfort and handling. You’ll more than likely love it, but sadly, you’ll not be able to take delivery of your car for up to 18 months. And this is probably what we dislike most about the e-Golf: You can’t get one no matter how bad you want it. Charles and I more or less saw this coming. We’d both previously driven the new LEAF and were fairly convinced it was going to take the honours. Nissan has quite the head-start on the others when it comes to EVs. The LEAF first arrived eight years ago and, in that time, the company’s learned quite a bit, and fast-forwarded its evolution. What’s surprising about this car, and many others than Nissan produces, is that it’s not the best at anything, with perhaps one exception.
The fact that it is average in every respect means that it reaches most expectations, meets most needs and delivers enough when it counts. In other words, there are no serious compromises to be made when opting for the new LEAF, among EVs. Its 40 kWh battery is mid-pack, although Nissan promises a 60 kWh unit sooner rather than later. The same goes for its electric motor which at 110 kw (147 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. Golf and Bolt. Here too, Nissan is planning on more with a rumoured 160 kw motor, some serious fast-charging abilities and a range of over 360 km. For a full charge from a Level 2 charger, six hours are needed. Like the e-Golf, a Level 3 charging station will provide the LEAF with an 80% charge in 30 minutes. The reality is the 40 kWh car provides a true real-world 242 km maximum range and better than decent acceleration which in both cases leave the VW behind. The Nissan LEAF is the plushest of the three on the road.
Its ride is nearly soft but never floaty or unpleasant. It’s nowhere near as involving to drive as the VW or Chevy but the combination of quiet and comfortable is quite therapeutic. The new LEAF’s design is far more contemporary and it certainly earns points for that. The same goes for the cabin. For the LEAF, Nissan opted for more trunk at the expense of passengers. This is the only car of the three that can handle the stroller. The baby seat fits nicely but any front passenger over 5-feet and a few inches tall might want to relocate behind the driver for more legroom. This is the 2018 Nissan LEAF’s sole setback. In conclusion, all three of these cars merit your attention. Many were left out from this test but if you are seriously considering an EV, we also like the Kia Soul and Hyundai Ioniq. The upcoming Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro EVs are promising loads of performance and range for reasonable dollars. If you can wait, they’ll probably be worth it. By mid 2020, most carmakers will have something new available. You can bet they’ll be very good products. This is after all, the only race that really matters in the 21st Century.
Although the high-power Volkswagen R32 hatch has had many strong following it failed to successfully compete with the Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX STI in the affordable AWD performance class. This picture may be about to experience drastic change though with VW's upcoming high-performance model internally called 'the R-Series Turbo' which will be known as the VW Golf R20 or VW Golf R20T, names that suggest the engine's displacement. Majority of current talks point to VW's 2.0-liter turbo to replace the R32's present 3.2-liter V6 engine. Even with this apparent decrease in engine displacement, the engine is said to still generate 270bhp which is about 20 percent over the current vehicle and comes in a much lighter load than the previous engine. Estimated acceleration rate is placed at 0-60mph in about 5 seconds and it can attain a maximum speed of 155mph which is electronically limited. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual or a DSG dual-clutch gearbox. It is not certain if the R20T will come only with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. The R32 comes with an AWD system, but this causes extra curb weight as in all units in the Rabbit/Golf range. To get rid of the AWD may well reduce weight, but again it might lessen drivability and reduce the car's ability to compete with its closest rivals mention earlier. Styling upgrades consist of larger rims and tires, aero package with the flared arches, exhaust that is sportier, and most likely it will come with LED running lights.
In truth, Spain has much to offer to the world. Motor vehicles - SEAT, the largest auto manufacturer in the country, is part of the Volkswagen Group. The majority of SEAT models are shipped within Spain and throughout Europe, Africa, and Central and South America. Pharmaceutical products - The country's decentralized health system may account for the quality in health care products. Almirall, the Esteve Group, and Wyeth (now part of Pfizer Group) are among top companies exporting medicines. Fashion/Apparel -With nearly 3000 textile companies in the country, Spain is a force in the European fashion and footwear industry. Camper Shoes, for one, enjoys a celebrity following around the world. Wine - Fifteen percent of the world's vineyards are located in Iberia, putting Spain third in European wine production behind France and Italy. Popular vintages include Tempranillo, Grenache, and Monstrell. Foodstuffs - Spain is a large exporter of olives, vinegar, pork products, and traditional Spanish pastries. Chupa Chups, the globally known brand of novelty candy, is also based in this country. With a vibrant history and influence that is felt throughout the world, Spain continues to dominate in other ways. As the economy grows to surpass bordering nations, one might find this country will explore new territory in trade once again.
Electric cars (EVs) are quickly becoming less of a novelty, and more of a valid option for the everyday motorist. More manufacturers than ever have an electric car offering, and many of them are exceedingly impressive. This upward trajectory does mean that picking the right electric car for you is a little harder than it has been in previous years. We’ve narrowed down the extensive list of electric cars currently available to the pick of the bunch. While electric cars - and even hybrids - once seemed intent on waving its arms and shouting about the fact that it was better for the environment, the Audi e-tron does a wonderful job of simply being an ordinary car. To the untrained eye, it is simply another Audi SUV, and with a range of up to 241 miles, it is just as capable of taking on your daily routine as its petrol-powered rivals. On the other end of the electric SUV scale, we find the Hyundai Kona Electric.
The Kona is in the compact SUV sector, and even in electric specification, it is one of the most capable in its segment, particularly if it is paired with the 64kWh battery, which can last for up to 279 miles. The Nissan Leaf has been regarded as one of the most well-received electric cars since it debuted, and the second-generation version has done nothing to dent that reputation. There are now more rivals than ever vying for your electric car purchase, but the Leaf is still one of the best options out there. City cars were among the first to be mated to an electric motor, and today, there are quite a few cars that pair nimble, agile dynamics and stylish design with battery-powered underpinnings. BMW’s i3 is a leading example of the electric city car, and its strengths are built on with the sportier i3s. It delivers the equivalent of 180bhp and is capable of 160 miles on a single charge. While the older Model S is still a very capable car, and possibly the very best electric saloon car out there, it is the Model X that we’re giving the nod to here. This SUV is one of the more expensive cars on this list, but it does have a 230-mile range on the entry-level model. The Kia e-Niro is currently akin to gold dust, given how rare it is. This is not due to a lack of quality or desirability though. In fact, the issue is quite the opposite, with Kia unable to source batteries quickly enough to meet demand. The e-Niro is yet another extremely impressive compact SUV offering, and with a 282-mile range, it is one of the most practical examples of the breed as well. Certainly, a range of 144 miles puts the Volkswagen e-Golf behind many of its rivals and every other car mentioned here, it still makes a lot of sense as a purchase. Is this the best electric car on the market today? You could certainly make a case for it.
The 2019 Toyota Avalon Touring. When the first Toyota Avalon arrived 24 years ago, it was summed up by a lot of observers as the Japanese having built a better Buick. You may have noticed that Toyota is working very hard to shake off its bland image of late. And for 2019, the Avalon, a new fifth-generation model, has gotten essentially the same styling treatment the smaller Camry got last year. 2019 Toyota Avalon Touring. That is by no means bad news, though it does signal a change in course for the Avalon. At a time when sedans are losing popularity and large sedans are doing the least well, does it make sense to position the Avalon this way? 35,500 respectively) below that. The Touring comes loaded, with the emphasis more on sport or at least the pretense of it than the Limited. Also standard is Toyota Safety Sense, which includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams and dynamic radar cruise control.
One of the most important criteria, if not the most important criterion, of automobile quality is reliability, that is, infrequency of serious problems, as few people want the annoyance, inconvenience, and expense of dealing with such problems. This article provides lists employing this criterion that will help guide consumers to the best small cars on the U.S. The lists in this article include automobile models that are 180 inches (457.2 centimeters) or shorter in length. They include sedans, coupes, convertibles, hatchbacks, and wagons, but do not include sport cars. They also exclude those models with only a one-year data history, as a one-year data history may provide a poor guide of what a consumer may anticipate for more than one year. The first list gives those small car models with a 2010 Auto Reliability Grade Point Average between 3.25 and a perfect 4.00 for the age range 0-to-4 years. The second list gives those small car models with a 2010 Auto Reliability Grade Point Average between 3.25 and a perfect 4.00 for the age range 2-to-6 years. The third list gives those small car models with a 2010 Auto Reliability Grade Point Average between 3.25 and a perfect 4.00 for the age range 4-to-8 years. The fourth list gives those small car models with a 2010 Auto Reliability Grade Point Average between 3.25 and a perfect 4.00 for the age range 6-to-10 years. 15,300 CDN - just 75 percent of the price of a Rabbit. At that price, the car is no longer competing with compact cars like the Civic or Corolla but sub-compacts like the Yaris and Fit and even the Accent and Aveo. When compared to these vehicles the underpinnings don’t feel dated, although they aren’t exactly impressive. On the highway the car settles nicely at speed, although large bumps can send the car bouncing up and down on the soft springs and shocks, reminiscent of a mid-90s Buick. The sheer length of the springs and shocks is obvious just by looking at the City Golf, as it has a great deal of wheel gap. My tester featured the optional 15-inch aluminum wheels and while they do spice up the look of the car, they are somewhat redundant from an engineering perspective as they are no larger in diameter than the standard steel wheels.
As for the body of the City Golf, VW has done a good job at masking the decade-old vehicle underneath. When the car was first launched it came with an old Mark IV body style, however, in 2008 a redesign helped make the car look neither new nor old. As for those aluminum wheels, they did help to class-up the car, although any good they might have done to the overall package was negated by the taillights. VW opted to go with cheesy aftermarket-style units that just cheapen the overall look of the car. Power is deliver by a decade-old SOHC 2.0-liter engine that has both its drawbacks and its benefits. Power is rated at 115 ponies and torque is a substantial 122 ft-lbs. With maximum torque at just 2600 rpm, the City Golf has excellent useable power for around town and initially feels much faster than the 11.7-second sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) that VW Canada claims.
Fuel economy isn’t bad either, despite the fact that the competition relies on 1.6 and even 1.5-liter engines. Fuel consumption is rated at 9.9 and 6.9 liters/100km city/highway (or 24/34 mpg). One reason the numbers are even this good and the 2.0-liter is competitive in the sub-compact segment is due to the new six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission (a five-speed manual is standard). The interior is a real disappointment for a Golf, but it’s exactly what you should expect for 15 grand. Standard equipment includes an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD player with an auxiliary input, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and tilt-telescopic steering wheel. Unfortunately even with the seat in its lowest position and the wheel in its highest I still couldn’t see the top of the gauges, including any of the engine temperature gauge. And another thing… the side mirrors are just far too small. 1,175) that includes those 15-inch wheels, an alarm system, cruise control, power heated mirrors, power locks and windows and remote trunk and fuel-door release. A nice option would have been steering wheel-mounted controls. 275) was also installed which includes heated seats. Annoyingly the heated seats use VW’s scrolling temperature adjuster with an excessive six settings. On the plus side, however, the seats heat up fast and get mad hot - something that is definitely appreciated in Canadian winters. Standard safety equipment includes front air bags and ABS (something a lot of comparably priced sub-compacts list as options). Side air bags and curtain air bags are separate options, as is an electronic stability control system.
The new TDIs are exceptionally fuel efficient. The 110 PS strong diesel is satisfied with just 4.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (119 g/km CO2) - that represents a 0.6 liter reduction in fuel consumption! Even the 140-PS version only requires 4.9 liters of diesel (129 g/km CO2), which is 0.6 liter less than the on the previous generation. In the launch phase, four variants will define the range of gasoline engines with 59 kW / 80 PS, 75 kW / 102 PS, 90 kW / 122 PS and 118 kW / 160 PS. Starting at 90 kW / 122 PS, TSI engines with supercharging and/or turbocharging are used. The fact is: the gasoline engines are also pioneers in economy. The optimized 80-PS entry-level engine consumes just 6.4 liters Super per hundred kilometers (149 g/km CO2) - that is 0.5 liter less than its predecessor. The TSI engines once again make their appearance as prime examples of efficiency: with 122 PS the new Golf 1.4 TSI consumes just 6.2 liters Super (144 g/km CO2); this represents a fuel consumption advantage of 0.1 liters.
Electric cars are entering into the automotive market. However, their prices are still expensive mostly due to the battery cost. Additionally, electric vehicle batteries are considered not useful for traction purposes after they have lost a 20% of its capacity. Having still an 80% of its capacity, these batteries may work on stationary applications with lower requirements than electric mobility. In order to recover part of the battery costs came out the idea of giving batteries a second life. Nonetheless, before its reuse, these batteries should follow a transformation process that, although valuable, it is not simple. They should be collected, checked and adapted, if necessary, to their new application requirements. Nowadays, each car manufacturer has its own battery partner using a particular cell shape and chemistry. Additionally, each battery has different module configurations and electronic control parameters and equipment. Moreover, each battery model has a particular refrigeration system in the final packaging that forms the whole battery. All these aspects put the reusability of electric vehicle batteries into a narrow path where a bad step could lead to business collapse. This study shows some of the difficulties and issues that should be taken into account when managing second life battery businesses. CitationCanals, L., Amante, B. The system uses the hands-free microphone in conjunction with the rear speakers. The volume of the electronic voice amplification is also automatically adjusted to suit the speed of the vehicle. If the music volume is very high, the volume of the electronic voice amplification is reduced. The range of functionality for the Exit Screen will increase considerably with this new infotainment system. For the first time, the exit screen will offer personalized, simplified access (one touch) to functions relevant to the real world, in real time. This makes it possible, for example, to program the auxiliary heating system within a matter of seconds, as the infotainment system displays the predefined settings for a predetermined length of time. Volkswagen will offer the Exit screen functionality in all future generations of vehicles. An individually configurable entry screen is also currently under development. Personalization 2.0: The number of convenience and assistance systems and the associated range of configurability increases with every new vehicle generation.
Many of these systems are individually adjusted, and used by different drivers of the same car. Invariably, this means that settings have to be constantly reset. Volkswagen conceived Personalization 2.0 to solve this challenge. This allows individual settings for one driver to be saved in a user account, then saved to the cloud via Volkswagen Car-Net ID. If that driver then gets into another compatible Volkswagen, they can simply load his or her Car-Net ID settings in the infotainment system, activating them in the new vehicle. This effectively means that drivers will always have their own individual settings with them, which is especially handy for use in rentals, company cars, or even within families. Using the Volkswagen Car-Net ID app also makes it possible to change your settings in your user account and save the updates to the cloud. The app can be used to familiarize users with a new Volkswagen in advance.
All user data is protected against unauthorized access by utilizing advanced third-party encryption and can be deleted quickly by accessing the app. Media Control, Generation 3.0: Volkswagen Media Control is the rear-seat entertainment system of the future. The app allows control of almost all infotainment functions through a tablet device. Simply connect a tablet via the vehicle's WiFi hotspot, and passengers are able to control various features such as the radio, all media sources (USB, CD, DVD, hard drive, online song search) and factory-installed navigation. • Video streaming between tablets. • Remote control of the media that is playing on tablets via the infotainment system. This makes it possible to play a film simultaneously on two separate tablets in the back, which a great feature for traveling with children. • Audio streaming a playlist via tablet or smartphone to the infotainment system (synchronized audio playback via the vehicle's speakers). The current playlist can be customized by all in-car users of the app, via compatible devices. Car-Net® App Connect and WiFi: Volkswagen Car-Net® App Connect is the brand's advanced smartphone integration platform that allows for seamless integration from your device to the vehicle.
When linked to the infotainment system, the Telephone app can be used—via the system's touchscreen—with a graphic interface that mirrors that of the smartphone being used. Similarly, the voice control which is available on several smartphone operating systems, map or music apps can also be used in the same manner. Through Car-Net® App Connect and the MirrorLinkTM, Android AutoTM and Apple CarPlay® integrated platforms, the system is compatible with most available smartphones currently available. Previously it was necessary to connect the smartphone to the infotainment system via a cable. With Volkswagen's introduction of the second-generation ofCar-Net®AppConnect&WiFi,userscantakeadvantageofwirelesssmartphoneintegration. Oncethe function has been configured, the smartphone can be left in the user's handbag or jacket pocket. On longer journeys it is, of course, advisable to put the smartphone in the Volkswagen's wireless inductive charging cradle to supply it with constant power. Volkswagen Car-Net® Updates: The various online services offered by Volkswagen Car-Net® include the Guide & Inform, Security & Service, App Connect and e-Remote packages. At CES 2016, Volkswagen is showing a number of new programs and add-on features for Volkswagen Car-Net.
While the 2019 Volkswagen Golf was set to be revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show in September that no longer seems likely, instead you’re now tipped to see the car revealed at a private event in the autumn. You can expect the Golf to start from around £20,000 for an entry-level S model and £22,000 for a mid-range SE. GTI and R models will cost significantly more but don’t expect to see them until well into next year. What seems certain is that the VW Golf will get a new slim-line grille and slim headlights that could hint that this will be the first Golf to get LED exterior lights as standard. If they are standard you can also expect to be able to specify powerful matrix LED at extra cost, they can be used at full power even in oncoming traffic. Another safety feature at the front of the car is the raised bonnet which should protect pedestrians from the hard engine below should they be unfortunate enough to get run over.
That said, the Golf will come fitted with automatic emergency brakes as standard and they’ll detect cars as well as people. Even basic cars will get a subtle rear spoiler, designed to help fuel economy at motorway speeds. Like the front, LED lights will be standard at the rear and will likely perform a cool light up sequence when you lock and unlock the car. The rear bumper design will depend on the version with entry-level cars getting a plainer design while sportier R Line cars will get a mock rear diffuser. To see the most significant changes that’ll be made to the 2019 Volkswagen Golf, you might want to skip the outside and jump straight behind the wheel because it’s inside where the real revolution will happen. Spend extra and you’ll be able to swap the single central infotainment screen for two huge displays that sweep from behind the steering wheel to the centre of the dashboard.
The 2019 Volkswagen Golf will have a marginally longer wheelbase - the space between the front and rear wheels - than the current model to give increased interior space. That’ll be felt most by your tall rear-seat passengers who can expect more head, knee and legroom. The car’s wider track will also allow for more hip and elbow room if you ever need to carry three people in the back. Boot space will also increase from the current model’s 380-litre figure to closer to 450 litres - giving you room for an extra small suitcase. Expect the boot to offer excellent packaging with a low load lip and a floor that remains flat even when the rear seats are folded away - making it as easy to load awkward loads as possible. The 2019 Volkswagen Golf will be the first Golf to offer mild-hybrid tech even on its regular models. Basic 1.0-litre petrol cars are tipped to do without a turbocharger - instead, they get a large starter motor that can provide instant thrust when, say, pulling away as well as starting the engine.
While those cars will use a 12V power supply, mid-range models will get a 48V system that’ll help the car harvest more power when coasting or braking. These models will likely use a revised version of the 1.5-litre petrol fitted to the current Golf, which uses cylinder deactivation technology to save fuel - by resting half the engine when its extra power isn’t needed. If you really want to save fuel though, you’ll still want a diesel model - and VW is said to be developing a new 2.0-litre engine that should offer punchy motorway performance and excellent fuel economy. Perhaps more importantly, you can expect it to come loaded with clever tech that’ll make it extremely clean to comply with tough new emissions regulations. Fast GTI models, meanwhile, are set to use an electric motor to boost their performance at low speeds. Most Golf’s will be front-wheel drive, but expect the range-topping Golf R to get four-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard. While the 2019 Volkswagen Golf is set to be lighter than the current model, making it feel more nimble in bends - the big change isn’t how it’ll feel to drive, it’s that you won’t actually have to drive it.
