2019 Volkswagen Touareg 2 Review

The Touareg is a luxury SUV that debuted in 2004. Sharing a platform with the Porsche Cayenne, it offered both off-road durability and excellent on-road handling. The second-generation Touareg 2 debuts for 2008, and with it, a number of improvements. The Volkswagen Touareg 2 is a definite improvement on last year’s model, but to say it’s a full sequel is a bit of an overstatement. While its interior and overall build quality is excellent, the price tag is a bit high, and it could stand to be much more reliable. The Touareg 2, for all it has to offer, is tough to recommend. J.D. Power gives the Touareg 2 stars for dependability. Problems with the original include malfunctioning rain sensors, sagging suspensions, harsh shifting, wiring problems, dead batteries, and faulty door handles. It was recalled three times for insufficiently riveted seatbelt attachments, improperly wired tire pressure monitors, and improperly secured child restraints. Expect below average reliability.

The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles. The Touareg 2 received 5 stars in government crash tests. IIHS results are not available. Anti-lock brakes, brake assist, hill assist, full side airbags, and stability control come standard. The Acura MDX includes a CD changer and leather seats, but costs several hundred more. The Audi Q7 has a DVD player, but has less towing capacity, lacks a moonroof, and costs several thousand more. The Infiniti FX35 includes leather and a CD changer, but can’t tow as much and lacks a moonroof. “On the road the Touareg is a bit sluggish off the line as this is a heavy vehicle at 5,100 pounds. Passing power is also not as strong as I would prefer as the engine worked hard to pass a pesky New Beetle that was loafing in the left lane. “I appreciate that the 2008 Touareg gets high safety marks, and as any dancing queen will tell you, this boogie machine’s style is right on. Somehow, though, I just wasn’t overly enthusiastic about it. It costs more than many other vehicles in its class and has too much non-charming quirkyness.

4WD is there to aid in traction and does no significant impact in being an aid to braking situations. More reckless driving. A 2004 National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study showed that SUV drivers have an 11% chance to be involved in their own fatal accidents. The study shows that SUVs tend to be owned and driven by drivers willing to take higher risks and may be more likely to drive the SUV drunk. Fuel Efficiency. There's no other way to say it. Larger tires create a higher drag coefficient. Wider and larger tires create a better grip, but is a detriment to overcoming wind resistance at high speeds, thus wasting gas. Higher profile creates a higher drag coefficient. Wider and higher profiles does not contribute to the SUV being aerodynamic, requiring brute force to overcome wind resistance at high speeds. Larger engine consumes more gas. SUVs usually come in engine sizes larger than 2.0. If you must, the most fuel efficient engine is a turbodiesel. By and large, SUVs consume 40% more gas than the average passenger car.

What can be done? SUVs will still be on the road, so if you're a passenger car driver, what can you do? Yes. Keep them alert by beeping them when you feel they're getting too close for comfort. Maintain active safety mode. Keep on using your senses to react fast to dangerous situations on the road. Drive slower. You can also benefit from driving slower so you can react to situations in time. What if I'm an SUV owner? Sell the SUV and get a more fuel efficient and safer car. A good but drastic choice. If you love your SUV, you won't be doing this. Be more alert. Very good for you. Going into active safety mode will help you. This still does not solve the mileage problem. Car pool. Saves gas but limits mobility. Your passengers will love it though. You'll have more eyes looking out for danger too.

2019 Volkswagen Touareg Colors Of Touch Up Paint

AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 2006 Volkswagen Touareg using a basecoat/clearcoat system just like factory specs. To insure a proper match, you’ll need to know your vehicle’s color code so you can find it on the chart below. The paint code is normally located in the back compartment panel in the trunk. Click here for Volkswagen paint code location diagrams and label examples. Don't see your color listed? We probably have it. Did you choose the wrong vehicle model? Why The Two-Step Paint System? Your 2006 Volkswagen Touareg is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. After prime coat, base coat and clear coat was applied a slight color deviation is noticed. Overall I'm satisfied with your product. I bought Sundown Orange for VW Beetle to cover a few, small scratch marks. The color was almost a perfect match - it just a tad bit lighter than the paint on the car. A few coats needed on the small scratched areas to blend in with the rest of the car. Do NOT use the brush the paint comes with, you won't get a smooth, blended look.

The cabin offers seating for five with plenty of overall space, except for limited rear foot room. The centre rear seating position is also quite firm and elevated (though headroom is still not an issue). The leather-trimmed seats are comfy, but the lack of side bolstering is disappointing given the vehicle’s sporting abilities. The dashboard is home to a huge number of switchgear and buttons, which all become very easy to use after some familiarisation. Note that the V10 TDI scores standard satellite navigation and a 5-inch LCD television - both were missing on our early delivery test vehicle. The V10 TDI driver is fronted by a distinctive purple-glow instrument cluster comprising a 320 km/h speedo, tacho, oil and coolant temperature, fuel level and battery voltage gauges. All instruments are clear and simple. The pedals are aluminium and the leather-bound steering wheel comes with a wood rim around its perimeter - it looks good but we don’t like the feel.

Our only other interior gripe is that the up/downchange paddles for the sequential transmission impair access to the indicator stalk. The Touareg’s safety is enhanced with no less than eight airbags, a high-strength body with crumple zones, high driving position and large exterior mirrors. However, we did remove the centre rear headrest after only a few kilometres of driving - it gobbles up a lot of rearward visibility. The Touareg’s rear cargo area offers generous floor space, a first aid kit, under-floor space-saver spare, dual 12-volt outlets, tie-down hooks, a trim blind and generous lighting. The load lip is also low and the tailgate is easy to close thanks to the V10 TDI’s auto-close feature. A huge cargo volume can be accommodated by folding the split rear backrest forward. The Touareg V10 TDI certainly stands out amid the band of urban SUVs. The Touareg has a clean overall form with muscular guards, bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, indicators in the exterior mirrors, chrome grille and twin tailpipes. And it’s not likely you’ll overlook the standard 19-inch alloy wheels clad in supercar 275/45 P-Zeros - glad we don’t have to shell out for a replacement set of those!

Our test vehicle had very impressive overall build quality. Panel fit is excellent, there’s minimal orange peel in the paint, the doors shut well and provide excellent sealing and everything has a quality feel. The steel sections of the body are also fully galvanised for corrosion protection - the bonnet is made from aluminium and the front guards are a high-tech plastic. Our only quality concern in our test car was a clunk from the front-end while tackling speed humps. Australia. Nobody could expect huge sales for such a niche vehicle, but it’s certainly a welcome addition to the market. 71,000 buys you only that stonking engine. But there’s more to it than that. The V10 TDI also brings equipment such as 19-inch wheels, 4-zone climate control, air suspension, sunroof, standard satellite navigation and more. Is it good value? Certainly, the Touareg V10 TDI is relatively cheap in this segment - but we’d stop short of calling it a bargain. We also have some concerns about depreciation. Still, it’s great to see such an A-grade monster on the market! Did you enjoy this article? Please consider supporting AutoSpeed with a small contribution.

It would not budge. The car continued going right, off the driveway and into several trees. The wheel was still locked at this point. I had to turn the car off, and on to get the wheel to release so I could back out of the tree, and onto the driveway. Vehicle has been well maintained and serviced on schedule at the dealership. There were no warning lights or indications on the dashboard prior to the incident. After the car sat idle all night, on the morning the next day, I tried to to start to car. There was big pop sound. Turned off the engine and restarted after a couple of mins and noticed, message on the dashboard indicating alternator fault. Opened the hood and noticed the serpentine belt has completely fallen off. This resulted in the power steering being completely disabled. Battery stopped charging. Very very luck that this incident happened when the car was idle.

The car was impossible to drive as the steering was extremely difficult to turn. Secondly the battery stopped charging. The dealership service has no answer as to what causes this. Especially when the car has been through service just a few months ago. Very concerned if such issues happens on the highway at high speeds. How can a vehicle with such low mileage plus complete maintenance have such issues. Audi has so many inbuilt sensors and yet there was no indication something is wrong. See all problems of the 2009 Audi Q5 . The contact owns a 2014 Audi Q5. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel would not exhibit any resistance and did not adjust to the speed of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. Vehicle has been repaired by Audi for a similar issue.

Reporting again, because dealer completely replaced Audi "electromechanical steering unit". Vehicle steering locked up hard, requiring very large amount of force to turn even a few degrees. Message on a display "steering is defective". Vehicle has been repaired by Audi for a similar issue just on 23 oct 2013. Reporting again as a new issue, because dealer has completely replaced Audi "electromechanical steering unit" and other parts. Notchiness, friction while rotating steering wheel within few degrees from 12'o clock position either side. Problem persisted despite the software update. Another issue was whistling sound from side mirror. At times particularly while driving at high speed, it get so pronounced as if a "fly" is buzzing next to the drivers ear. I complained to dealership and Audi on 09/14/2013. Since then I'm driving loaner. Dealership tried to return car on 09/17/13, none of the issues were fixed. I returned car to dealership again. I complained again to Audi of USA.

Now, I am told that side mirrors are replaced and fixed. However, notchiness/friction in steering wheel still persist. There is nothing Audi can do to fix this. Dealership is insisting me to accept my car. However, I a m reluctant to accept due to concern of potential safety issue. On a frequent basis when traveling at highway speed on straight, non-crowned pavement the vehicle will drift to the left suddenly without any input from the steering wheel. The vehicle must be continually corrected through the steering wheel to maintain a lane. At time a "notch" feel appears at the 12 o'clock position on the wheel that makes it almost impossible to maintain a straight direction without constantly adjusting the wheel from right to left. On two occurrences the wheel jerked to center uncontrolled. Turning the car off and back on will reset the issue and the occurrences are random but frequent. If at the time of the occurrence a vehicle was occupying the adjoining lane an accident would occur.

Kia Picanto Vs Volkswagen Up!

The latest Kia Picanto has been jostling for position with the city car class leaders since it was launched in 2017, thanks to its wide appeal at a wallet-friendly price. It uses the same formula as all its leading rivals, with a grown-up driving experience, low running costs and a surprisingly spacious interior. One thing it was missing, until now, was a turbo engine at the top of the range. The turbocharged Volkswagen up! Here we’re taking a closer look at Kia’s new 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo petrol motor, which aims to combine efficiency with a bit more performance and flexibility. We’re testing the Picanto in GT-Line S trim, which is a bit more expensive than this High up! ’s price as tested, you’ll notice that they’re much closer overall. So which of these tiny turbo city cars is the better choice? Read on to find out. The latest Kia Picanto is more grown-up than ever, and this GT-Line S model sits at the top of the range with the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. It’s £14,720 list price puts it at the expensive end of the city car market, but match its spec with options on the VW up!

The Kia matches the VW’s suspension layout, using MacPherson-strut front suspension and a torsion beam at the rear. Some components in the Picanto are shared with the Hyundai i10, just as the VW has its own sister cars (the SEAT Mii and Skoda Citigo) to help with economies of scale and keep prices more affordable. In GT-Line S spec, the Picanto features 16-inch alloy wheels, sportier bumpers, tinted windows, LED daytime running lights and a chrome grille surround, which give it a sportier look than the up! On the inside there are artificial leather seats and sporty-looking pedals as well. The main difference between the two cars in the cabin is that the Kia features a seven-inch touchscreen display with satellite navigation, smartphone connectivity and connected services, while in the up! ’s simply a mount for your phone. Quality can’t match that of the VW, because some of the cost-saving materials present in both models are hidden away in the German car, but on show in the Picanto. Still, build quality is on par; these two products are prime examples of city cars that feel more grown-up than you might expect them to.

That maturity extends to the driving experience, too, because the Kia is quite refined, even though it can’t quite match the up! The engine is very quiet at idle, but wind and road noise are much more noticeable when you’re up to speed than in the VW. However, the difference gets smaller the faster you go, and on the motorway there’s not too much in it. Both competitors are good for a city car, but you’ll still need to turn up the volume on the audio system to drown out the outside world at speed. The Kia rides well most of the time, and it’s smooth enough around town, but it’s not as composed as the Volkswagen. Big potholes cause more of a stir in the Picanto’s cabin, for example. The steering isn’t quite as direct as in the up! ’t as slick, either. Still, it’s fun to use, with a light clutch and a neat, mechanical feel.

It means you can make the most of the engine, which is a real highlight. This new turbocharged motor is undoubtedly the best part about the driving experience; the extra power and torque ensure this version of the Picanto is brilliant fun. We recorded a 0-60mph time of 9.1 seconds at our test track - 0.9 seconds faster than its rival - and the Kia was also significantly quicker in our in-gear tests. It’s a little more powerful than the up! ’s a distinct difference between them; overtaking opportunities are more limited in the VW, for example, because you’ll have to find a longer section of road to get past slower traffic. The Picanto has the advantage when it comes to pure boot space, although it’s not by much. There are 255 litres with the rear seats in place, four more than the VW, but it’s also the more spacious choice with them folded. You get 1,010 litres in total, while the up! As with the up!

’s a large loading lip and the seats don’t fold down completely flat. Still, both cars have a moveable boot floor that can be raised to create a flatter surface. The trade-off for the extra boot space in the Picanto comes with rear legroom, because there’s much less space here than in the up! Headroom is good in both cars, although there’s a lot more space in the back of the Volkswagen. A seven-year warranty comes as standard with every Kia, and the brand did quite well in our Driver Power 2018 satisfaction survey, although its eighth-place finish was behind Volkswagen’s fifth out of 26 makers. The Picanto gained a four-star Euro NCAP crash rating under tougher requirements in 2017, but has better safety kit. For a start, there are six airbags to the VW’s four, and the Kia has autonomous braking fitted as standard (it’s a £380 option on the up!).

The new Golf R Plus has not yet been approved for production, but Autocar has been told that it has the support of VW boss Herbert Diess. If it gets the go-ahead, it is likely to join the VW line-up after the new Golf R goes on sale in 2020, at a price similar to that of the £45,250 RS3. Highlighting the advanced state of the Golf R Plus development programme, VW officials confirmed that a styling proposal for the variant has already been completed. It features a considerably more aggressive appearance than the standard version of the next Golf R, with broader front wings that, insiders say, have been adopted in combination with a widened front track. The next-generation Golf will be produced as a five-door only, so both the Golf R and R Plus will be offered in that bodystyle alone. At the heart of the secret new range-topping Golf is a highly tuned version of the Volkswagen Groups EA888 petrol engine. Originally a project of Volkswagens former head of petrol engine development, Friedrich Eichler, the powered-up four-cylinder was first showcased in the R400 concept with 395bhp and 332lb ft at the 2014 Beijing motor show. That model was closely considered for production. New developments brought to the engine of the Golf R Plus include a particulate filter. Like the next Golf GTI, though, it is thought to eschew mild-hybrid electric motor boosting. As with the standard version of the new Golf R, drive is set to be channelled through a standard-fit seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a sixth-generation version of VWs 4Motion four-wheel-drive system. That set-up will now feature fully variable control that constantly alters the amount of drive being sent to the front and rear axles.

Very disappointing that the list contains only one FEV, and as you mention it was announced for 2014 already. Yes, i guess 2015 will be a year that PHEV's will gain ground a bit throughout the world, even in BEV-oriented markets. Which is a shame, Tesla proved there is a huge market for BEV's. In 2016 PHEV taxes will be raised a lot, hopefully this will push lots of people to BEV's. Fuel cell vehicles are definitely EV's so I recommend including them. But because hydrogen is such a poor transportation fuel, sales will be restricted to essentially demo fleets for compliance purposes. Until there is a battery breakthrough, PHEV's will continue to be the most practical technology for electric propulsion. So yes, I also expect increased market share. Finally, thank you so much for maintaining this blog! It's a wonderful resource for those of us who like to follow the EV revolution. Best wishes for the new year. Fuel cell vehicles should not be considered EVs, unless you can charge their battery from the grid, in which case they are FC PHEVs just like there are ICE PHEVs. It's a simple precise definition that we should stick to. EV countries. Couldn't have done it without your blog. I gave you a big hat-tip there. It's only fuel is Hydrogen and a small battery is used to carry out most or extra performance when demnaded. Yes, Fuel cars`s EV. Fuel cell cars are hybrids, like the traditional Prius. You could argue that traditional hybrids like the original Prius are EV's (HEV - hybrid electric vehicle). But since they are not reported here there is hardly any need to fuel cell hybrids either. Then it's just a fossil fuel car of more or less efficiency. So maybe you could start a new section for fuel cell cars?

Finding The Best Diesel Cars

When it comes to cars the petrol versions is what most of the buyers cars prefer, and that's because of incredible performance, low maintenance cost and better fuel efficiency of petrol cars. But that trend is changing slowly and surely all over the world. So here I've listed some of the parameters that can help you find a good diesel car well within your budget. Diesel, as a fuel has been associated only with heavy commercial vehicles like trucks and likes of that. But that's all talk of the past, a lot of automakers have developed technologies to use diesel as a cleaner and efficient fuel. The modern diesel engines not only save a lot for you on the fuel stations, but do that without compromising any of acceleration power. This is what makes the diesel versions of car a lot more desirable than the hybrid variant. Almost every car entering the market these days comes with a diesel variant. Among so many Diesel Cars in the market if you find a car suitable to your budget then make sure that it also offers you the required comfort and features.

One nice option according to me is the Volkswagen Passat TDI sedan, which also delivers 43 mpg of fuel efficiency. In case you want a diesel powered SUV, then the BMW X5 Diesel is a nice choice. It not only delivers ample features and comfortable seating, but also gives 22 mpg of fuel efficiency. The third and most important thing that you need to keep in mind when buying Diesel Cars is the price. This is because in general the diesel models are priced more than the petrol variants because of the use of extra technology, which is required to handle the high-compression diesel combustion engine. Along with that there's also is extra work required to fit the vehicles. The usage of exhaust system incorporating extra technology for meeting the emission standards could also be attributed for the high price of these diesel models. So always do a thorough research on price before finalizing your model.

Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the O-ring seals in the transmission oil cooler, free of charge. DECEMBER 2013 - Volkswagen Group of America, Inc (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Jetta Hybrid vehicles manufactured October 2012 through October 2013 and equipped with a DQ-200 direct-shift gearbox. Due to gearbox fluid additives, the control module within the gearbox may corrode. The deposits from this corrosion may cause an electrical short and result in a stall-like condition. This sudden loss of power while driving increases the risk of a crash. Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the gearbox oil with a non-corrosive version, free of charge. NOVEMBER 2013 - Volkswagen AG is recalling more than 80,000 vehicles in North America for electrical issues. Owners will be notified next month and dealers will replace the fuse with an upgraded version. The recall includes 62,155 Tiguan SUVs in the United States and 16,235 in Canada.

Earlier this month, NHTSA opened an investigation into 61,000 Tiguan SUVs because of complaints about exterior lights. Agency officials said they received 26 complaints about partial or complete loss of exterior lights in the 2009-11 VW Tiguan. “The reports suggest the problem worsens over time with additional exterior lighting malfunctioning as the problem progresses. Most of the complaints report finding an overheated and melted fuse in the under-hood fuse box,” the NHTSA said. An owner in October told NHTSA that, when driving 60 mph, the headlights and tail lights failed intermittently on the 2011 SUV. The dealer replaced the main fuse panel on the vehicle with 35,000 miles. 630 to repair. The owner said the dealer couldn’t guarantee it wouldn't happen again. If rust deposits gather between electrical wiring, a short in the power supply can result in blown gearbox fuses and the failure of the gearbox hydraulic pump. The vehicle may lose power but can coast to a stop, VW said. No failures have been reported in the United States, but VW said failures have been reported in some foreign markets the company is issuing a worldwide recall to address the issue.

VW will notify owners next month and will replace the synthetic gearbox oil with a new mineral-based oil. 2, in specific load and rpm conditions. This resonance creates additional stress in the fuel line. Due to the resonance condition, injector line number 2 could develop small cracks which could lead to fuel leakage. Leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source, may lead to a fire. Volkswagen will install an improved fuel injector line for the number 2 cylinder on certain vehicles and will install vibration dampers on all of the injector lines. Volkswagen and Audi will notify owners to have the vehicles repaired free of charge. YAHOO NEWS -- October 6, 2011 - Volkswagen is recalling 168,275 cars equipped with diesel engines because of a defect in the fuel injection system that could cause fuel leaks and fires. Cracks can develop in the fuel injection system and cause fuel to leak, possibly causing fires, VW said in documents filed with federal safety regulators.

Citroen C4 Is Good For Long Distance Journeys

The Citroen C4 had a facelift done in 2011 and it is one of the most comfortable mid-sized family cars money can buy. However, the drive is not as much fun as the Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf. The cabin is useful but the big boot eats up the rear seat space. Citroen has recently added the micro hybrid e-HDI diesel engine to its range. It comes mated with an automatic gearbox and gives a combined mileage of 74mpg. The facelift done to it in 2011 has made Citroen C4 a head turner. The bodywork is sharply and distinctively styled which makes it one of the good-looking family cars money can buy. The interior is sublime too. The steering wheel has lots of buttons and the top-spec Exclusive versions have massage front seats. It's not all good inside as the rear seats feel cramped and it doesn't give a luxurious feel as compared to the Ford Focus. The suspension is soft which makes for a comfortable ride but on a zig zag road it is not fun to drive. The steering is not agile enough.

C4 has an unmatched performance on the motorway. There is no wind noise inside the cabin and the diesel engine runs effortlessly and silently. The fastest C4 diesel engine you can buy is a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with 0-62mph timing of 8.7 seconds. The top of the range 2.0-litre diesel is slower but it gives excellent fuel economy. The Citroen C4 was awarded a full five-star in Euro NCAP crash safety tests. It is a safe car with six airbags as standard. C4 is also equipped with eTouch service, which lets you call and be located by emergency services if you ever break down or have an accident. The Citroen C4 has a 408 litre boot making it one of the roomiest in its class. However, the car's design does make it hard to load things. The cabin has lots of storage space and is well figured out. If you go for the new e-HDI engine, it comes with an automatic gearbox. Citroens are very bad when it comes to depreciation so make sure to get a discount when buying a new one. The star of the lineup is the e-HDI engine which gives fuel economy of 74mpg. The micro hybrid engine has stop and start technology to save fuel when it is still. Citroen C4 is a competitively priced family car.

Of the two cars, I prefer how the Leaf handles the day-to-day management of an electric vehicle, but the e-Golf is more engaging to drive. Range overall was better in the Nissan - unsurprisingly, given the larger battery - though I was always reluctant to push them to their theoretical limits given the risk of getting stranded as a result. NOW READ: Inside Tesla’s affordable Model 3 That’s promised by the Chevrolet Bolt, due later this year, as well as the Tesla Model 3 which is of course further out. For 2017, Volkswagen is expected to offer a larger battery in the e-Golf, which will take EPA range to 124 miles; more competitive with the Leaf, true, but still closer to double-digits than the 200 threshold. Electric cars work, certainly, and they needn’t be expensive to buy or run. For the moment, though, it’s vital you make sure your needs - and your nearest chargers - line up with the limited range that the most affordable EVs still suffer from.

Volkswagen Golf R 2017 review review - Autocar - 웹B. If the high side pressure is high and the low side pressure is low, this could indicate that the a/c compressor is stuck at its maximum displacement or that there is an other-than-specified restriction in the system. Signs of frost on the lines indicate the point of restriction. 2. Flush the A/C system with nitrogen or refrigerant. This requires using a "dummy" restrictor that is a straight opening at the flush point. DO NOT under any circumstances use air to flush or blow out the lines. This will introduce moisture to the system that will be difficult to get rid of. Flushing the A/C ensures that all the refrigerant and oil is out of the system so that when the charge procedure is performed, one can be as accurate as possible about the amount of refrigerant and oil in the system. 3. Inspect the restrictor for signs of damage. Look to see if the restrictor is completely plugged. On expansion-type restrictors, look to see if anything is blocking the movement of the valve. 4. Inspect the A/C lines for evidence of desiccant coming apart. This will typically look like a gray sludge paste (think valve-lapping compound). If the desiccant has come apart, flush the A/C system. The desiccant can plug up the restrictor or cause damage to the compressor. 5. When replacing the Volkswagen Jetta's compressor it is recommend to drain all the oil out of the compressor (if pre-filled) and measure the amount of oil. This way, the actual amount of oil in the A/C system can be known and accounted for. Tech Tips: VW/Audi recommends replacing the drier unit along with the compressor.

The cabin’s ambience is rather mundane, but the Leaf’s fit and finish is better than the Bolt’s so-so interior furnishings. Still, the Leaf is no match for the more premium Volkswagen e-Golf. The fussy hockey puck-style gear selector remains. It takes some getting used to and can be awkward to use during frequent Reverse to Drive parking maneuvers. The center touch screen is straightforward to operate. 32,490. But the display in the instrument panel, used for trip info, EV specifics, and turning off safety features, is too confusing. We can’t think of one good reason anyone would want to turn off the blind-spot detection. A power seat with adjustable lumbar support adds to the quality of life for the driver and is an amenity the more expensive Bolt doesn’t have. Oddly, though, the steering wheel lacks a telescoping adjustment. Combined with the protruding center console that rubs against the driver’s knee, the driving position is severely compromised.

The rear-seat room is quite decent. Two adults will have no problem with its elevated posture and good legroom. The trunk space suffers much less intrusion due to the battery compared with the first-generation Leaf. Some staffers have been able to transport a mountain bike with the rear seat folded down. 900 option on lesser versions. These features have been a boon during our New England winter. In addition to 240-volt charging, the Leaf can use a regular 120-volt outlet, but that’s likely to take around 20 hours. The home charging kit that comes with the car includes a neat dual plug that can easily convert from a regular three-prong plug to a 240-volt heavy-duty plug, compatible with outlets that most households have for clothes dryers or ovens. So long as there is a 240-volt outlet near your garage, that can eliminate the need to invest in a dedicated charger. So far we’re finding that the Leaf takes about 5 kWh per hour of charging. A port for DC fast charging is optional. With that, Nissan claims an 80 percent charge in 40 minutes.
