2019 Honda S2019 CR Concept

2019 Honda S2019 CR Concept

The club racer-inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show introduces a higher level of track-worthy performance and style to the S2000 roadster, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced. The full-body aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and highly-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color. Substantial structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity. The aluminum hard top replaces the soft top of the conventional S2000, resulting in an overall weight savings of approximately 90 pounds when removed (relative to the current S2000). The exclusive interior is highlighted by unique cloth seating surfaces with yellow stitching, a unique spherical aluminum shifter and carbon fiber-style trim panels. Air conditioning and an AM/FM Stereo with CD player are optional equipment. Standard features for the S2000 include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA).

While VSA serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it. Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability. The S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance. The renowned high-revving engine delivers 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.

Creativity has no borders and this car proves it. The bodykit is an incarnation of bold ideas and brain waves of designers assigned to build a fascinating showcar. The front part of the vehicle is characterized with the extending massive bumper with one central opening providing cool air to the engine鈥檚 cooler. On the sides we can find two pairs of smaller spoilers correcting this air-flow. The bumpers have oval lines, same as the rest of the bodykit and it鈥檚 fluently connected to the extended fenders. These are parts of Japanese wide bodykit same as the distinctive side sills. Side of the car is something not seen very frequently. The space behind the front wheels is 100% used with many openings as a pair of vertical elongated right behind the wheels and six branchiform ones behind. All openings are used to off take hot air from the brakes. They also have fancy side sills that are continuously connected to extended rear fenders. But don鈥檛 forget about external mirrors inspired by JGTC NSX with a decent carbon line. Everybody knows that the Honda S2000 is a roadster with a canvas roof in the stock version.

But it鈥檚 noticeable at the first sight, that this modified Honda is a little bit different. Ann that鈥檚 the element that Bulletproof Automotive designers are proud of. The custom hard top was specially designed for this car and meets all necessary requirements of aerodynamics. It鈥檚 attached to the stock roof and visually stretches the car. There鈥檚 a decent wing and third brake light on its end. Additionally windows are created by Bulletproof same as the front window is. Yes, the rear part makes many of us having willies. It has a distinctive extending of rear bumper with wild design. Openings for hot air off-take from the rear brakes are situated in the extended fenders nearby rear lights. The rear bumper is heavily modified and it鈥檚 very different from the stock one. The bumper is wider thanks to a pair of side wings and massive carbon diffuser. This one hides a pair of Tracy Sports鈥檚 70mm wide titanium exhaust tips.

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Prototype

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Prototype

Volkswagen will complete the development phase of the new Volkswagen Tiguan with a final extreme test in Namibia. During the final acceptance drive on the African continent, the electronic components and chassis of the new SUV are the primary focus of testing. Considering the electronics, a technical highlight on board the VW Tiguan is of special interest for the testers: the completely new generation radio and navigation system. This was developed in close cooperation with the most important local Volkswagen operations in Europe, Asia and America. Worldwide development collaboration made it possible for a wider than ever pool of specialized know-how, and also the requirements of all markets, to influence the devices. The top system of the new line, with the designation RNS 510, has a 30 GB hard disk and is controlled with a touch screen. A rear-view camera enables a view behind in this case. Completely new electronic systems also simplify offroad driving in the Volkswagen Tiguan. The particularly agile and dynamic SUV uses an innovative network of assistance systems with the name of "Offroad Mode".

Just on touch of a switch activates a whole armada of safety features, supporting the driver in a multitude of situations. Five motors. All of the engine and body versions of the VW Tiguan have to "swallow" the dust of Namibia in this final test. Volkswagen will be offering the SUV - and this is unique so far - exclusively with charged engines. The TSIs (gasoline) output 110 kW / 150 PS, 125 kW / 170 and 147 kW / 200 PS; and the TDIs (diesel) develop 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 PS. Two front ends. The two body variants of the Volkswagen Tiguan differ primarily in their front ends. The "Trend & Fun" and "Sport & Style" versions are designed for a maximum entry angle of 18 degrees in front. The "Track & Field" Tiguan that is tuned even more for offroad duty can assume entry angles of up to 28 degrees with its front end.

During the testing program in Africa, as however already mentioned, the emphasis is less on engines and entry angles than on final checking of the electronics and chassis. Long before the first prototype was built, it had been decided that the new Volkswagen Tiguan should be an extremely actively driving and safe SUV. The development team pulled out all the stops to achieve this goal. The Tiguan now has to demonstrate in Africa that it achieves neutral to lightly understeering handling and an unusually low roll angle. Furthermore, the road holes along the edge of the Namib Desert should once more test how well the highly dynamic driving characteristics and excellent ride comfort interact under the hardest conditions. Because the demands on the car were clearly stated in the specification: to set benchmarks in dynamics, comfort and active safety. Rear axle. The four-link rear axle has also been adapted to best suit the permanent four-wheel drive system 4MOTION. The four-link rear axle of the VW Tiguan is specially intended for this combination.

The rear axle of the front-wheel drive Tiguan has been modified correspondingly. Items no longer found on board include: Cardan shaft, rear final drive and drive shafts. But the sub frame is utilized in both drive variants. The innovative modular system of this rear axle has a decidedly positive effect on costs. For the rear axle, newly developed shock absorbers were developed with increased oil volume; a favorable temperature level makes the absorbers well equipped for even the toughest offroad use. Like the front damper struts, also newly developed, both components provide for exceptionally good ride comfort properties. A new generation of steering. A technological highlight in the indirect chassis area is the completely new generation of electromechanical power steering. A decisive advantage of the system: Despite the very precise steering feeling, even in offroad operation no jolts whatsoever are transmitted to the steering wheel. Primarily responsible for this is a newly constructed steering gear.

Volkswagen Recalls 136,000 Autos For Antilock Brake Fix

Volkswagen Recalls 136,000 Autos For Antilock Brake Fix

Volkswagen Group of America is recalling nearly 136,000 Audi and Volkswagen autos to fix potential problems with their antilock brake systems. The recall covers 135,683 vehicles, including certain 2009-10 Volkswagen Jetta A5 sedans, 2009 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen, Eos, GTI, Rabbit and Audi A3 vehicles and 2010 Volkswagen Golf A6 vehicles. In them, the control unit for the antilock brake system may fail when the system or the auto's electronic stability control are activated. Volkswagen will notify owners, and repairs will be made free of charge. The automaker traced the problem to the use of an incorrect solder compound, which may cause cracks that prevent sufficient electrical power to flow. As many as 11 million vehicles worldwide may be affected, according Consumer Reports. Additionally, in mid-December, 83,000 3-liter diesel vehicles with model years between 2009 and 2016, were recalled. Previously, the company agreed to buy back 475,000 2-liter diesel cars, according to CNBC. On Friday, a South Korean court sentenced an executive of Volkswagen's local unit to one year and six months in prison for fabricating documents on emissions and noise-level tests to achieve certification for vehicles for import. This is the latest fallout from Volkswagen's emissions-test cheating scandal that last year resulted in a sales suspension in South Korea, a once fast-growing market for the German automaker. Seoul Central District Court said in a statement, referring to the suspension. The court statement only gave the surname of the executive, Yun, and said he was convicted of document fabrication, obstruction of work and the violation of an environment law. 14.91 million)for allegedly forging documents on emissions or noise-level tests. How much fuel does your car REALLY guzzle? 31.87 million) for false advertising. Seoul prosecutors are still investigating the case.

Design is clean, neat and stylish with the chrome pedals which makes it even more solid and outstanding. The central console is visually easy to control and there's Dual-zone air conditioning system which allows the driver and front passenger to set their own air-conditioning temperature. There's also a USB port for you to connect your device to access your media files or even charge your phone. The DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) allows the driver to switch between automatic and manual transmission. By pushing the gear stick to the left at the "D" (Drive-mode), it becomes manual just by pushing it up or down to adjust the gearshifts. Pushing it down from the Drive-mode will be the "S" (Sports mode), and the Beetle will be like a sports car - fast and responsive. Here's how the speedometer looks like. Its simple and easy to read, with a clear LCD at the centre providing you information about the car. Integrated into the centre dashboard are oil temperature gauge, clock with stopwatch function and boost pressure gauge that provide all key information at a glance.

At the top.. there are easy controls for the lightings and the opening n closing of the weather-proof fabric soft top is just the catch at the centre. The rear mirror sports the anti-glare function which can be turned on or off. It works at night to prevent the lightings from the rear oncoming cars to be glaring to the driver's eyes. Here's the additional glove compartment which creates a visual bridge back to the era of the first Beetle. Right below is the normal glove compartment which has more storage space. And this is the Fender Sound System. Consisting of 9 speakers and 400 watts of power, the Fender sound system provides an incredibly clear and powerful sound experience, for deep bass and detailed mid-range tones, regardless of the volume. As you can see the rear seats are quite deep and spacious for a cabriolet. Front seats can be moved forward easily with the catch on the sides of the seats to allow the rear passengers get in.

There's also a 12V Power Socket at the centre for all to use. Lookin' at this angle from the back.. Beetle Cabrio is indeed very eye-catching! It's the nicest Beetle I've ever driven. The boot is just a small opening at the back.. It can be opened by just pressing the Volkswagen logo at the back. The boot space is 225 litres no matter the soft top is opened or closed. Thanks to the K-fold feature of the fabric top. The rear seats can be pushed down to create more boot space by pulling this catch here. Beside it is a hook for you to hook on to your plastic bags so that your groceries and stuffs wouldn't be rolling all over the boot. So it will look like this when the rear seat is down. Both rear seats can be pushed down. And yes.. just right below its the Fender sound system's Subwoofer that provide solid sound to your ears.

Now.. this is how it looks like when the soft top is up. Underneath the bonnet of the Beetle Cabriolet is a 1.2 TSI engine with an output rating of 105 PS. This turbo-charged 1.2-litre four cylinder engine follows the downsizing principle in an extreme form, resulting in maximum power with low fuel consumption and emission values. Its maximum torque output of 175 Nm is available from 1,500 - 4,100 rpm. A brisk performance is achieved via a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), with the car accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 178 km/h. It also has extremely low fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100km in the combined driving cycle, with a CO2 emission value of 139 g/km. Initially I wasn't quite use to it when the top was opened, because the windscreen seemed to become smaller and darkens.. I got used to it! Instead, I enjoyed the feelin' when the soft top was down and simply just enjoy the natural breeze from the outside..

Differences Between 2019 And 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI

Differences Between 2019 And 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI

Apart from the all-new Golf Alltrack model, the VW lineup doesn鈥檛 receive many huge changes for the 2017 model year. But that doesn鈥檛 mean that the changes and upgrades that have been made aren鈥檛 significant. The GTI is one model that seems to have received more upgrades than most, so we鈥檒l tell you all you need to know about the differences between the 2016 and 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI. The GTI receives a trim level shake-up, making some popular features more accessible. You may be happy with the layout on the 2016 models, but if there are certain features you were wishing you could get, the 2017 model might offer just what you鈥檙e looking for. A major difference between the 2016 and 2017 model years is the introduction of a new trim level. The 4-door Golf GTI for 2016 started off with the S trim before following up with the SE and Autobahn trims. For 2017, a new Sport trim enters the lineup that delivers a standard Performance Package.

For those who want the Performance Package, it will now be even more accessible than before, as it also comes standard on the SE and Autobahn trim levels. With that said, if you aren鈥檛 interested in the Performance Package, you鈥檒l find great value in the entry level S model without having to move up the lineup. Plus, the S trim level will be the only one offered as a 2-door model. As mentioned, the Performance Package now comes standard on the SE and Autobahn trim levels, which might be considered the biggest change to the model for 2017. The Autobahn trim, however, does receive a few changes itself. The Autobahn model will add certain driver assistance features as standard, like Blind Spot Monitor With Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor With Rear Traffic Alert and Autonomous Emergency Braking. If drivers do want more of these features, a Driver Assistance Package delivers Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Light Assist for the high-beams. The differences between the 2016 and 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI are restricted to these trim lineup and feature changes. You鈥檒l still find the same 210-horsepower engine and same sporty design. To learn more about the 2017 Golf GTI, contact us here at Neftin Volkswagen or just schedule some time behind the wheel.

Driver newcomers who wish to register their vehicle in their own name can also slip into damage class 陆 or better if they use the parent-child scheme. The car must be insured with the same insurer as that of the parents. However, young drivers then can not always collect their own damage-free years, so do not climb in the SF class. True to the motto "Pay how you drive" can novice drivers with so-called telematics tariffs save money. The only requirement: You drive carefully and with foresight. And how does it work? A small box built into the vehicle evaluates not only the speed but also the braking and acceleration behavior, as well as where and when the driver is on the road. With exemplary driving style, novice drivers can enjoy discounts on insurance costs. That's up to 40 percent for some insurers. Among other things, the type class of the vehicle has an influence on the amount of the insurance premium.

The more frequently the vehicle type is statistically involved in accidents or stolen, the higher the type class and the more expensive the insurance. Drivers should, therefore, inform themselves before buying a car. Also, by assuming the claim-free class, the amount of the car insurance premium can be sharply reduced. The prerequisite is that the novice driver has driven the vehicle regularly and that there is a first-degree relationship or a domestic community. So if grandma does not want to drive anymore, she can give her grandson the SF class. The crux: Damage-free classes can only be accepted in the amount that the novice driver would have "experienced" himself with the duration of his license. If you have a driver's license for one year, you can only claim the SF class 1 - even if your grandmother is classified in SF class 20. All remaining SF classes expire. But: once you give up your SF classes, you can not undo that. New drivers usually do not buy a new car but are satisfied with an older car at the beginning. If the user for example, is older than ten years and has only a small residual value, then the protection of legally required vehicle liability is sufficient. Partial coverage may be useful if the vehicle is between five and ten years old and still has some residual value. It covers damage to wildlife, marten bites, theft, and glass breakage. If novice drivers decide for a new car with quite a high residual value, the full insurance is sensible. She also jumps in vandalism and self-inflicted accidents on their own vehicle. However, this increases the price of car insurance.

Volkswagen's perennial hot hatchback, the Golf GTI, just keeps getting better and better. For 2019, VW has turned up the wick on the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and made more performance equipment standard, while also introducing a special-edition model called the Rabbit Edition, pictured above. All GTI models now produce 228 horsepower, 8 hp more than before thanks to a slight retuning. The six-speed manual transmission remains the same, but the optional dual-clutch transmission is now a seven-speed unit. Larger brakes from the Golf R and a limited-slip differential, previously offered only on higher trims, are now standard across the board. The new Rabbit Edition slots between the base S and the mid-level SE. It's set apart by black trim for the wheels, spoiler, and mirrors along with Rabbit badges for the seats, intended to bring to mind the original GTI from 1984, which was called Rabbit in the U.S. 1180 more than before. 1100 regardless of trim level.

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI First Drive Review

2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI First Drive Review

While the 2019 Jetta is all well and good, the variant that most likely appears to the majority of R&T readers is this, the quicker Jetta GLI. Our man Zach drove it on the Tail of the Dragon this week so you can learn all about it. It comes with a manual. There鈥檚 still an optional DSG seven-speed dual-clutch for those who prefer to leave the shifting to the car. Both are great, with the manual offering near-perfect ratios for the coiling tarmac on the Tennessee/North Carolina border and the DSG delivering the lightning-quick shifts we鈥檝e come to know and love. Like the GTI, the GLI gets a VAQ limited slip differential and Volkswagen鈥檚 XDS electronic differential lock, which manages torque to each front wheel via the brake system. It has Golf R front rotors. The GLI gets the massive 13.4-inch front discs from Golf R, same as the GTI.

Rear discs are also larger than a standard Jetta at 11.8-inches. The set up takes an impressive amount of abuse. Volkswagen flung us at the infamous Tail of the Dragon with its 318 turns in 11 miles. This road is a brake system鈥檚 worst nightmare, with serious grades, plenty of speed, and tight radii. At no point did the brakes fade. The multi-link rear suspension is back. The Jetta rides on Volkswagen鈥檚 MQB architecture, which means it was made to accept both torsion beam and mulit-link suspension designs. While the standard Jetta uses the former, the company turned to the latter for the GLI. Engineers robbed the GTI toy box for parts, and the two share spring rates and front sway bars, though the GLI gets its own specific rear bar that鈥檚 1.7 mm smaller in diameter. Volkswagen鈥檚 building 3,500 35th Anniversary Edition versions of the GLI, and those cars get the company鈥檚 swank DCC adaptive damping system.

It鈥檚 great, but so are the standard struts and shocks. Both suspensions are softer than you鈥檇 imagine, but are happy to hustle when you grab the car by the scruff. Volkswagen says that even more so than the GTI, the GLI is made to be a performance-oriented daily driver, and that means it needs to get you down the road without jouncing your internal organs from their homes. It is effectively a GTI sedan. The theme here is take everything we love about the GTI and shove it into the Jetta. The two cars weigh about the same and share a laundry list of parts, including a brilliant turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. It鈥檚 good for 228 horsepower, about 18 more than the outgoing GLI, and 258 lb-ft of torque. The old engine made do with 207. That means the car is properly quick. We don鈥檛 have official numbers just yet, but our guess is the GLI will stick close to the GTI鈥檚 6.0-second 0-60 time.

As usual, the torque is the star, giving the car more muscle across a broader swath of the rev range. We found ourselves leaving the car in third, and letting the low-end grunt pull us out of everything but the tightest corners. And, because the GLI doesn鈥檛 look like a slammed Euro hatch, that makes it a proper sleeper. Look, we will always be hatchback people, but there are plenty of buyers out there who prefer a sedan, and if you want GTI fury with four doors and a trunk, the GLI is your car. It鈥檚 bigger, but weighs the same. The 2019 GLI is larger in every direction than its predecessor. Engineers added 1.2-inches to the wheelbase, 3.0-inches to the overall length, and .8 inches of width over the previous generation GLI. That all adds up to more head, shoulder, and legroom than before, but we have to wonder why. The old car had plenty of room inside. Despite the growth, the new car doesn鈥檛 weigh significantly more than its predecessor, about nine pounds. 1,600 cheaper than an equivalent GTI.

As with the others, there鈥檚 also no torque steer of note to contend with. The GTI, however, remains a hot-hatch at its most enjoyable up to eight-tenths - and in isolation. Start to push the limits and the Volkswagen simply can鈥檛 keep pace with its rivals. There鈥檚 notably more body roll from the narrowest car here, and the GTI鈥檚 chassis ultimately starts to become flustered when asked to negotiate a series of tight, alternating corners. And while MY19 brings larger brakes from the Golf R, stopping confidence is even higher in the Megane and i30. The Hyundai鈥檚 brake pedal feels quite firm in regular driving, though you get used to it. Perhaps inevitably for three cars wearing performance-focused tyres (Pirelli P Zeros for the i30 N and GTI; Bridgestone Potenzas for the RS), tyre roar on coarse-chipped country roads is prominent. For what it鈥檚 worth, the i30 N is loudest and the GTI quietest in this respect, but none is hushed.

Best Used Cars For College Students

Best Used Cars For College Students

It won't be long before incoming freshmen head off to college. That means it's prime time for students - and parents - to find suitable, affordable cars for the road ahead. Edmunds has compiled a list of used hybrid, compact and crossover SUV vehicles that best lend themselves to varied demands of college life. We chose vehicles for their strong value, utility, fuel efficiency, performance and the availability of advanced safety features. We also offer some other alternatives in our picks' respective classes. The prices shown are the average prices paid for the cars at a franchised car dealership, compiled by Edmunds. This photo provided by Honda shows the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid, a fuel-sipping sedan that Edmunds considers one of the best midsize four-doors. Its spacious interior, upscale cabin design, and enviable EPA rating of 47 mpg in combined driving make it a standout in its class. Though Honda only sold the second-generation Accord Hybrid for the 2014 and 2015 model years, it holds up well, even when compared to new hybrid sedans. Its spacious cabin easily seats four adults.

On the safety front, all models come with a rearview camera and an additional camera that displays what's in the driver's right-side blind spot. EX-L and Touring models further add lane departure and forward collision warning systems. If the Accord Hybrid doesn't appeal, several other worthy midsize hybrid sedans are worth a look. Chief among these is the Ford Fusion Hybrid, with a similarly roomy interior and excellent ride comfort. Maximum cargo capacity isn't great in either car, but the Fusion's rear seats fold down to accommodate larger items. Overall, the Accord is more desirable for its superior fuel economy, quicker acceleration and more intuitive touchscreen system. It also holds its value better than the Fusion. Hybrids are great for saving on gas, but college-bound shoppers who want excitement will want to look elsewhere. Luckily, there are a handful of cars that are both fun and sensible. We think the GTI offers the best blend of performance and comfort, but there are competitors also worth considering. The Ford Focus ST is notable for its bold styling cues, beefier engine and larger cargo area.

The Ford's stiffer ride, subpar infotainment system and lack of an automatic transmission option make the GTI a better choice for everyday driving. Note that the sixth-generation GTI actually carried on until 2014, but the final model year offered fewer choices: It had a limited color palette, only two trim levels and ditched the available two-door body style. For those who like the GTI's utility but need something more affordable, a standard compact car might be the best choice. The Mazda 3 is a good representative. The Mazda's interior is one of the nicest in the segment, with plenty of soft-touch plastics. It's a tech-rich car as well: There's a dash-mounted screen with high-quality graphics, an available head-up display, and safety options such as blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera and forward collision warning. It's also one of the most fun-to-drive compact cars on the road. Popular rivals include the Honda Civic and the Ford Focus. But thanks to its many standard and optional features, excellent driving dynamics and nifty fold-flat seats, the Mazda 3 shines brighter.

Though small cars and hybrids are useful and fuel-efficient, they can't carry much. For students who are moving cross-country or who frequently transport large items, a crossover is the way to go. The Toyota RAV4 is a solid pick due to its comfortable ride, generous amount of interior space, and Toyota's reputation for reliability. It's also available with all-wheel drive, which can provide extra traction in snowy conditions. While the fourth-generation RAV4 has been on sale since 2013, a handful of noteworthy additions make newer RAV4s more desirable. For 2015, Toyota revised the RAV4's front structure to improve its crash scores, while 2016 brought a restyled front end and the introduction of a host of advanced safety features. The RAV4 isn't the most exciting vehicle in the class. The Ford Escape offers more powerful engines, and the Mazda CX-5 stands out for its impressive handling. But the RAV4's all-around competence and widely available safety equipment make it a top choice.

EDMUNDS SAYS: A number of newer used cars provide good value for students heading off to college while offering the features and little luxuries that make a new life that much more fun. This story was provided to The Associated Press by the automotive website Edmunds. Cameron Rogers is a staff writer at Edmunds. This photo provided by Toyota shows the 2016 Toyota RAV4, a fuel-sipping crossover that provides plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Its all-round competence gives it the edge over many rivals. This photo provided by Mazda shows the 2014 Mazda 3, which Edmunds highlights as one of the best compact cars. The Mazda 3's handling and materials quality are among the best in the class, and its range of body styles, powertrains and trims means there's a model to fit most budgets. This photo provided by Volkswagen shows the 2013 Volkswagen GTI, a small hatchback that provides tons of thrills. With a powerful turbocharged engine and high-quality interior, the GTI is fun to drive, practical and even somewhat luxurious.

They are as agile as they are economical. As would be expected, the new common rail TDIs of the Volkswagen CrossGolf are extremely fuel-efficient. They have power outputs of 77 kW / 105 PS (1.6 litre) and 103 kW / 140 PS (2.0 litre) and are paired with a standard diesel particulate filter. For example, the 140-PS TSI, shifted by a 6-speed gearbox, consumes just 5.3 litres of fuel (138 g/km CO2). The torque of this engine already reaches the impressive maximum value of 320 Newton-metres from 1,750 rpm. With the exception of the 105 PS TSI, all other engines may be combined with an automatic, the direct shift gearbox (DSG). For the petrol engines and the 105-PS TDI, the 7-speed version is used; in the case of the 140-PS TDI, there is a 6-speed variant specially designed for extremely high torques. In addition, the entire engine range of the Volkswagen CrossGolf fulfils the strict Euro-5 emissions standard. In its visual appearance, the second generation Volkswagen CrossGolf follows - like all other new models - the new Volkswagen Design DNA.

This is reflected especially clearly in the horizontally aligned band of the radiator grille between the headlights that is reflected in the horizontal form of the front bumper. These lines unify the new car with the Cross features now typical for these models. Compared to the first generation VW CrossGolf, the rugged all-terrain trim around the vehicle was styled more elegantly, and its lines were adapted to the new Volkswagen "Design DNA". Similar to the new Cross Polo, the look has been intensively modified - especially in the front area. Integrated on the sides here: the standard front fog lights. In a downward direction, the front end finishes with a cross bar in silver that is visually designed as an underbody guard. On its sides, the new CrossGolf exhibits the typical wheelarch extensions together with body sill trim and door add-ons. Like the front bumper, its rear counterpart is also covered and is equipped with a stylised underbody guard in silver. As is usual on the Cross models, the mirror caps are always painted in silver and therefore the same colour as the underbody guard of the front bumper. Harmonising with them are the likewise standard silver roof railings.

The exterior styling is rounded out by chrome accents and "CrossGolf" signature on the side trim as well as new 17-inch alloy wheels ("Budapest"). Unmistakable styling and a fresh, friendly ambiance are the hallmarks of the interior of the new VW CrossGolf. It comes with sport seats (front) including two-tone fabric covers and top stitched seams as standard features. The inner surfaces of the seats and backrests are upholstered in light-grey "Cellular" seat covers with coloured decorative seams. The lateral seat supports and back sections of the seat are offset in "Titan Black". The backrests of the front seats are equipped with folding trays and storage pockets on the outer sides. The floor mats - decorated with colour seams - upgrade its appearance as well. In addition, the Volkswagen CrossGolf sports air vents framed in a stainless steel look. Another standard feature: the "small leather package" with three-spoke steering wheel, gearshift lever trim and grip in leather. Last but not least, the new Volkswagen is identified by its new Volkswagen door step inserts with "CrossGolf" signature in the front door entry area and pedal caps in a high-end aluminium look.

VW Reportedly Ditches Plans For Hybrid GTI, Resumes Old-fashioned Hot Hatchery

VW Reportedly Ditches Plans For Hybrid GTI, Resumes Old-fashioned Hot Hatchery

If you were bummed by rumors that the Volkswagen GTI was going to go hybrid in its next generation, then we have some excellent news for you: It's not going to anymore. Volkswagen has decided to go evolutionary rather than revolutionary when it comes to the next generation of its beloved hot hatch, Autocar reports. The eighth-generation car will receive a revised and improved version of the current car's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Autocar credits VW Group chairman Herbert Diess with the decision. It's likely that the car will be offered in two performance flavors, with the higher-spec version being dubbed TCR to draw parallels to the company's racing GTI. We're also betting that both variants will sneak in under the 300-horsepower mark, lest they start to take big bites out of the Golf R's lunch. Those of you with long memories will remember that VW has flirted with hybrid-electric GTIs before. VW representatives confirmed to Roadshow via email that for the US market, the GTI would remain internal-combustion-only. While we don't have anything official, we'd bet on seeing the new Golf at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall, with the new GTI alongside it -- so all you rabid plaid-seat enthusiasts will have to wait until then.

Faster than any front-wheel drive GTI before it 鈥?yep, two tenths of a second quicker than the stripped-out, track-ready Clubsport S 鈥?it bangs out the 0-62mph sprint in 5.6 seconds. That鈥檚 down to the seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox with paddleshifts. I lived with the TCR for a week and I can鈥檛 help but quote that old chestnut 鈥渆veryday hot hatch鈥? It鈥檚 fast and precise, well balanced, has lots of low range response, holds its line through a corner (limited slip diff), and has a near-perfect driving position. Excellent brakes too. Trust me, it鈥檚 a LOT of fun down a B-road. Yet on dad duty, it is also refined and polite pottering around with the bin lids in the back. The ride is firm but not uncomfortable. The cabin looks and feels first class 鈥?as do all modern Golfs 鈥?and is crowned by the digital driver鈥檚 binnacle and slick infotainment system. The TCR adds special red cloth upholstery and a competition-style red stripe at 12 o鈥檆lock on the steering wheel. To tell you which way the wheels are pointing.

All the glossy car mags will tell you the 310hp Clubsport S was more spectacular. That maybe so. But it didn鈥檛 have rear seats and was limited to just 150 UK cars. So less practical and as rare as rocking-horse poo. My only gripe with the TCR is that it鈥檚 overpriced, starting at 拢35,305. You can easily top 拢40k with options. Whereas the 300hp Golf R is cheaper, faster and has the added year-round insurance of four-wheel drive. Let鈥檚 finish with a G please, Bob. 鈥淲hat G has sold every 41 seconds since 1974? Two-tone seat patterns are available in the optional colour combinations "Natural Brown / Desert Beige" (Highline) and, as part of the sport pack, in "Truffle / Black" (Comfortline and Highline). Volkswagen is offering a selection of ten direct-injection engines with four valves per cylinder in the new Passat. Four of them are classic high-tech petrol engines that output 90 kW / 122 PS (1.4 TSI), 118 kW / 160 PS (1.8 TSI), 155 kW / 211 PS (2.0 TSI) and 220 kW / 300 PS (V6). The top engine has six cylinders; all of the other petrol engines are charged four-cylinder engines. Also charged is the 110 kW / 150 PS engine (1.4 EcoFuel) that is configured for natural gas. Another derivative of the 1.4 TSI is the MultiFuel engine with 118 kW / 160 PS designed for use with up to 85 percent ethanol fuel. Petrol - three four-cylinder TSIs and one V6: Fuel consumption values are impressive. Setting the pace among the petrol engines is the Volkswagen Passat 1.4 TSI with optional BlueMotion Technology. It outputs 90 kW / 122 PS and consumes 5.8 l/100 km (equivalent to 138 g/km CO2).

While the groundbreaking previous model exhibited a nearly identical low fuel consumption figure, fuel economy improvements in the more powerful engines are even more dramatic. Consider the Passat 1.8 TSI with 118 PS: Here the development team reduced the engine's combined fuel consumption from 7.4 to 6.9 l/100 km; this resulted in a CO2 value of 160 g/km. No less significant is the reduced fuel consumption of the powerful TSI, now 211 PS instead of 200 PS; it has a combined fuel consumption of 7.2 l/100, which is 0.6 litre less than on the previous model. Accordingly, CO2 emissions were reduced from 183 to 169 g/km. The combined fuel consumption of the top version - the Volkswagen Passat V6 with 300 PS and all-wheel drive - also fell to 9.2 l/100 km (previously 9.8 litres). The new CO2 emissions value is 215 g/km. Ethanol - the MultiFuel engine: Specially developed for use in Sweden and Norway, and based on the twincharged 1.4 TSI, is the 118 kW / 160 PS MultiFuel Twincharger. This engine in the programme can be powered by petrol fuel with up to 85 percent ethanol content. Diesel - four TDI engines: The most fuel-efficient version of the new Volkswagen Passat is the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion with 105 PS. In the previous version, this engine already delivered impressively low fuel consumption values. Extreme progress was made on the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 BlueTDI and the Passat 2.0 TDI with 170 PS. For the particularly low-emitting Passat 2.0 BlueTDI (Euro 6 emissions standard) with SCR catalytic converter and 140 PS (previously 143 PS), fuel consumption was reduced by 0.6 l/100 km to just 4.6 litres (122 g/km CO2). The combined fuel consumption of the 170 PS Passat 2.0 TDI is 4.7 l/100 km (123 g/km) - 0.9 litre less than on the previous model.

I could only listen to the top secured in the trunk crack in protest. I give the standard glass rear window about two-and-a-half years before it needs replacing. Driving both cars back-to-back reveals one clear 鈥渨inner:鈥?the Chrysler Sebring Limited. It may have awkward aesthetics, but its decent drivetrain and nicer interior make the Pontiac G6 GT look like the classic dumb blond: all looks with absolutely no substance to back it up. If offered a Sebring drop top as a rental car, I wouldn鈥檛 turn it down. I know: that鈥檚 not exactly what you鈥檇 call high praise. Compared to the competition- ANY competition- both cars are losers. 30Kish, I鈥檇 spend it on a Mustang GT Convertible, VW EOS, SAAB 9-3, Mazda MX-5 or ANYTHING else. Hell, I might even spend it on nothing. And the fact that the G6 and Sebring鈥檚 manufacturers have put these underdeveloped cars on the market brings glory to neither.

Mercedes-AMG A 35 Vs Honda Civic Type R Vs Volkswagen Golf R

Mercedes-AMG A 35 Vs Honda Civic Type R Vs Volkswagen Golf R

The arrival of a brand-new Mercedes A-Class last year meant hot hatch fans around the world have been eagerly awaiting a new range-topping performance variant. Something they might not have expected was that the company鈥檚 AMG division was actually working on two new models: a range-topping replacement for the old A 45 (that鈥檚 coming later this year) and this, the new A 35 AMG. This entry-level rung on the AMG ladder is designed to rival the Volkswagen Golf R at a more affordable price point than its bigger brother. It follows a similar formula to its VW competitor, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine powering all four wheels through a dual-clutch transmission. But at this price, this most affordable AMG model also has to face another rival: our current favourite hot hatchback, the Honda Civic Type R. This delivers thrills like little else on the road. However, even though it has the most power, the Japanese car does without a four-wheel-drive system like its test rivals. Not that this has hobbled the Honda in the past, because it has seen off the challenge of the likes of the all-wheel-drive Ford Focus RS.

The AMG A 35 has a tough task to take on these two titans of the hot hatch world, then. We know a great car in this class has to tick many boxes, but is the new Mercedes talented enough to walk away with the win? The Mercedes-AMG A 35 currently sits at the top of the A-Class range. It鈥檚 the most expensive model of our group, at 拢35,580, although our test car was laden with expensive options, including the 拢2,595 style pack that adds the large rear wing. That spoiler, 19-inch alloys and aerodynamic trim on the bumpers are all part of the styling pack, because the standard A 35 looks much like a lesser AMG Line version. But AMG has applied plenty of tweaks beneath the skin to sharpen up the A-Class鈥檚 responses and make the most of its 302bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. There are MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear, while the brand has tweaked the suspension extensively and combined it with a 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system.

Power is sent to the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, just as it is in the Golf R - and with similar power outputs, the German rivals have a similar approach. The Honda is a contrast, with its manual transmission and front-wheel-drive layout. A highlight of the new A-Class range is the interior, and it鈥檚 the same story with the A 35. The quality is excellent and the cabin is the classiest of these three hot hatches. While the Golf isn鈥檛 far behind the AMG, the Honda trails its competitors in this respect. Mercedes鈥?standard MBUX infotainment system features two seven-inch display screens, with one of them replacing traditional dials behind the steering wheel, although our test car had two 10.25-inch units fitted as part of its 拢8,380 of optional extras. The larger screens are great, though, adding a hi-tech feel. Standard equipment on the Mercedes includes 18-inch alloy wheels, AMG styling, selectable driving modes, Artico man-made leather sports seats, LED headlights, climate control and satellite navigation.

The A 35 is actually the least powerful model of our test trio. There鈥檚 only a few bhp in it, and 302bhp is not to be sniffed at, while all three cars have the same maximum 400Nm of torque. However, the AMG is the heaviest model here, at 1,555kg, which is pretty chunky for a hot hatch of this size - it鈥檚 a whopping 175kg heavier than the Civic Type R, and 72kg more than the Golf. All three cars recorded a 30-50mph time of 2.2 seconds in third gear, which shows how well matched they are for performance once they鈥檙e rolling. However, while it鈥檚 linear and also pretty refined, the A 35鈥檚 engine feels a bit flat. It鈥檚 a similar story in the Volkswagen, though, and while the Honda鈥檚 engine is more visceral, none of these 2.0-litre units sounds particularly exciting. The Mercedes鈥?steering is similar to the Golf鈥檚, too, in that it鈥檚 precise but feels a bit disconnected; although it鈥檚 a nicer weight and does feel less resistive to your inputs, especially under power.

Traction is brilliant as well, with the four-wheel drive shuffling power around effectively. Cornering grip is also plentiful, while our car鈥檚 winter tyres could explain a slight lack of steering precision compared with its rivals. The A 35 is also reasonably comfortable on a motorway and deals with smaller bumps pretty well at higher speeds. Yet as your speed drops so does the level of comfort, and around town the Mercedes feels firm. Adaptive dampers are a 拢695 option, but weren鈥檛 fitted to our car; they cost 拢850 on the VW and are included as standard on the Honda. The A 35 retains the A-Class鈥檚 acceptable 370 litres of boot space, which means it鈥檚 more spacious than the Golf R鈥檚 343 litres, which is reduced compared with a standard Golf due to the car鈥檚 four-wheel-drive system. Both capacities are smaller than the Civic鈥檚 420-litre volume, though. Compared with its predecessor, this A-Class is much better packaged, so there鈥檚 more space in the rear.

New 286hp VW Golf GTI TCR Is As Sharp As Street-Legal Golfs Come

New 286hp VW Golf GTI TCR Is As Sharp As Street-Legal Golfs Come

As the fastest, most powerful production Golf GTI ever made (bar the Golf Clubsport S limited-run special), the TCR is certainly an intriguing proposition for GTI fans. Bridging the gap between the Golf GTI Performance and the Golf R, the TCR offers 290 PS (286 hp) at 5,400-6,400 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque constantly available from 1,950 to 5,300 rpm. Those are impressive numbers for a front-wheel-drive Golf and they鈥檒l certainly help bring people into showrooms. But what鈥檚 the Golf GTI TCR like to drive? We get the first answer from Autogefuhl which got up close and personal with the Golf GTI TCR both on the racetrack and on public roads at the model鈥檚 media drive event in Portugal. Also watch: Can The New VW Up! GTI Beat A 1980s Golf GTI Mk2 In A Straight Line? As always with Autogefuhl鈥檚 videos, it鈥檚 a long presentation that lasts almost three-quarters of an hour so you鈥檒l find absolutely everything you need to know about the range-topping Golf GTI. Surprisingly for an FWD car, the reviewer says there鈥檚 not much understeer as the GTI TCR features a front differential lock. As a result, there鈥檚 lots of grip available, and the semi-slick tires contribute to that as well on the track. The beautiful thing about the motorsport-inspired GTI TCR is when you鈥檙e done hooning it on the track it becomes a comfortable and practical hatchback you can drive on public roads like any other car.

This is where the R comes out on top. It includes Volkswagens 4Motion AWD system as standard equipment, and it鈥檚 able to distribute the power to all four wheels as required. It makes this a fun little all year-round car in all parts of this country. The GTI comes only as a front-wheel-drive vehicle. DH: Man oh man, what a drive. It doesn鈥檛 seem that long ago that this kind of power and poise was reserved only for sports coupes and sedans. Here in the year 2018, however, this little hatch can pretty much take anything you throw at it, from road surface conditions, to severity of curves and camber angles, to around-town cruising at a snail鈥檚 pace. It鈥檚 just so well executed in every way that you鈥檙e flabbergasted it starts life as a proletarian hatchback. You start to feel that fizz soon as you fire the engine; the off-beat warble you鈥檙e presented with is very circa 1980鈥檚 Group B rally, and right up my alley. It鈥檚 gruff without being brutal, authoritative without being too in-yer-face and does well to showcase the power you have underfoot.

Thing is, once you flex said foot, it鈥檚 about as in-yer-face as you can get. All four wheels scrabble for purchase as 280 torques are deployed at a lowly 1,800 rpm, so you鈥檇 better be ready. Make yourself aware of that fact, and you鈥檙e able to then focus on what the car鈥檚 doing below and around you. You can feel as 4Motion distributes power where it鈥檚 required, to help you better rotate around that turn, scrubbing off understeer with just a slight lift of the throttle. There are not many cars out there that respond to an aggressive drive with such vigor and panache, but the Golf R does so, with even more to give that you really can鈥檛 safely access without a race track. I鈥檝e had the chance to sample the Golf R in that scenario and - get ready for this - one of the cars that came to mind when I did so was the Porsche 911 Carrera 4. High praise? LE: The direct shift gearbox also comes with engine start/stop technology to get the most out of the fuel consumption.

1,500. This additional cash gives you blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian warning. These are things that quite a few auto manufactures are including for no extra charge. LE: Both cars have ups and downs when it comes to features and options. Both are very capable and enjoyable to drive. At the end of the day, the big question still remains: Do you spend your money on the Golf R or GTI? In my opinion, the extra 70hp isn鈥檛 worth the additional money. DH: I guess the real victory for the R is that while it no longer is the only player in the North American ultra-fast hatch game, it still manages to stand out among the crowd. I suppose it has its history of dealing with the European market to thank, where the likes of Renault, Seat and Peugeot have had vehicles like the R for quite some time. Even though it鈥檚 kind of the elder statesman now, it hasn鈥檛 really lost a step. Would I choose it over the GTI? It鈥檚 not an easy call, but if you鈥檙e smart with your option choices and willing to survive with a more standard colour, you can do a lot worse than the R in the big performance game. I think that鈥檚 a price I鈥檇 be willing to pay and the fact that you鈥檙e seeing more and more Golf Rs out there these days proves that I鈥檓 not alone.

What Was Your Favorite 2013 Detroit Auto Show Debut The 2013 Detroit auto show press days have come to a close, but not before showcasing some of the most anticipated vehicles such as the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Some automakers even came out of left field showing unexpected concepts, such as Ford鈥檚 Atlas concept, which previewed the 2015 F-150. With the Detroit show being one of the biggest shows of the season, car companies surely saved their big debuts for Motor City, but which one was your favorite? Lincoln showed the MKC concept, which got several positive reactions for its Range Rover Evoque-esque looks, while Infiniti鈥檚 Q50 sports sedan also got a thumbs-up for its sleek styling. Volkswagen brought the CrossBlue concept, showing it鈥檚 ready to dip into the midsize SUV market, and Audi鈥檚 RS7 joined the rest of the RS family in the U.S. BMW unveiled the 2013 320i, which didn鈥檛 seem so ultimate with only 180 hp, but the 4 Series Coupe concept is what really stole the show at the German automaker鈥檚 stand.

Rival Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, touted its sexy all-wheel-drive E63 AMG 4Matic and the production version of the swoopy CLA sedan. The Lexus IS F Sport scared some spectators with its gaping grille, while Toyota may have shown us what the next-gen Corolla will look like with the Furia concept. The Corvette stole the next-gen Silverado鈥檚 thunder at the Chevy booth, while another GM reveal included the Volt鈥檚 cousin, the Cadillac ELR. The Resonance concept (previewing the next-gen Murano) and Versa Note represented Nissan, while Acura鈥檚 MDX prototype served as a sneak peek for the production version. Honda also teased a new small crossover coming out in 2014 with the Urban SUV concept, and although many thought the Hyundai HDC-14 concept would preview the next-gen Genesis, Hyundai stressed that was not the case. Among all the new showstoppers at the Detroit show, which debut was your favorite? Have your say in the comments below.

Ron Forse was brought in to restore some bunker shapes and also to modernize the design. We had a really nice day there but the course isn't that memorable. Hopefully one day I can visit again and see the East. The next morning we headed back up towards Denver to the town of Parker and Colorado Golf Club. This was my second visit to CGC and the course was in wonderful shape as they prepared to host the Solheim Cup only days after our round. We met up with a bunch of friends for the day at Colorado, which was a precursor to a big event taking part that weekend at Ballyneal, one of my favourite golf courses on the planet. I hope to finally get my course profile of Colorado GC online sometime in the new year. This was my third trip to Ballyneal in four years and it was to take part in a scratch 2-man better ball event called the Rota. There were 12 two-man teams that took part in the inaugural event and while Harris and I acquitted ourselves well, we'd be on the losing end of two very close matches, falling into the consolation bracket.

Great camaraderie outside the Turtle Bar as Ballyneal glows near sunset. Despite falling short, we had a wonderful three days at Ballyneal and I truly hope that the ROTA becomes an annual, must-play event on my calendar. Jim, our great host, has big plans for this coming year and I certainly hope to be a part of it if it all comes together. Back home, I played four courses other than my own in Ontario. Just after returning from Colorado, I finally got the chance to visit the Devil's Paintbrush in Caledon, generally considered one of the finest modern golf courses in Canada. We played on a horrific weather day, with lots of rain and wind - I was more than a bit disappointed with the course setup when we played. This course is absolutely revered by many people whose opinions I value and I was shocked by the lack of playability at the Brush.

The fine architecture is quite apparent but needless to say, I would like another look at this course just to be sure my eyes didn't deceive me the first time. I played in a business scramble at Monterra Golf Club at the Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, Ontario. The course sits at the base of the mountain and like another mountain course I played earlier in the year, the West Course at Broadmoor, Monterra lacks memorability and is just an average design. Going from average to perhaps the best Canada has to offer, I was fortunate to be invited back to St. George's G&CC in Toronto for a second consecutive year. Prior to last year, I had only played St. George's once in my life and that was as a 17-year old in a junior event. As indicated last year, it's truly a world-class design, one that can measure up to the best in all of golf, with as good a finishing stretch as I've ever seen. In my eyes, it's a much better design than The National and is my choice as the best course in Canada.

What To Look For When Buying A Used Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2019-2019

What To Look For When Buying A Used Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2019-2019

This classy German compact sedan offers a spacious interior, excellent handling and the best-in-class highway fuel economy. This makes it one of the best cars for long commutes. Inside, the Jetta is stylish and functional. Front seats are firm, but supportive and comfortable on long trips. The steering tilts and telescopes. The driver's seat height is adjustable, so you can easily find the comfortable driving position. The 140-hp 4-cylinder turbo-diesel is very torquey and offers plenty of passing power. Is the Jetta TDI reliable? Isn't the Diesel engine noisy? How easy is it to find diesel fuel? We'll try answering these questions in this review. Volkswagen Jetta TDI interior. The Jetta offers class-leading 38.1 inch of legroom in the back. Diesel noise, smell and smoke: The turbo-diesel engine is a bit noisy when started cold, but once warmed up, you can only hear a little diesel clatter at idle; when driving, it's pretty quiet.

The exhaust smell and smoke were common in old diesel cars, however, with the introduction of Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels in 2006 and new diesel emission control systems, it's all in the past. Even when we were backing up the Jetta TDI into a one-car garage, we could not notice any exhaust smell at all. There is no visible smoke on acceleration either. Diesel fuel: The Jetta TDI requires Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), which is a clean burning diesel fuel. There shouldn't be a problem finding a fuel station selling ULSD fuel in the US or Canada, unless you are very far from major highways. Check more information about Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel at the EPA website or at ULSD FAQs - Clean Diesel Fuel Alliance website. Fuel Economy: the 2012 Jetta TDI is rated at 30/42 mpg city/highway (7.8/5.6 L/100 km). Engine: This 6-the generation Jetta comes with the 140-hp 2.0L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder TDI turbodiesel.

Unlike the previous generation, this engine is a Common Rail diesel, meaning that all fuel injectors are connected to the same high-pressure fuel rail. The high-pressure single-piston fuel pump is driven by a timing belt, similarly to the Mk4 1.9L TDI. See the photo of the TDI engine with the cover removed. The fuel injectors are controlled electronically. Overall, it's one of the best diesel engines on the market. Consumer Reports rates this engine 'better than average'. Handling and ride: The Jetta handles well, with good grip in turns. The steering is responsive and precise; the car holds a straight line well. The ride is Euro-firm, but still comfortable. The cabin is well insulated from the wind and road noise. With 236 foot-pound of torque, the 2.0L turbodiesel pulls easily, whether from a stop or when merging or passing on the highway. The only downside is that when driving at slow speeds, the DSG transmission is not very smooth, as it's essentially a computer-controlled manual gearbox. Pros: diesel models hold value well, highway fuel economy, highway passing power, good handling, clean classy styling, spacious interior with plenty of rear-seat space, comfortable front seats, decent size trunk, crash test ratings.

Cons: price, interior materials could be better, the TDI diesel engine needs more maintenance, complex diesel emission control system, the engine is a bit noisy when cold, the DSG transmission is not very smooth at low speeds. Reliability: Consumer Reports rates the Jetta 'below average' for reliability, with 'power equipment', 'climate system' and 'fuel system' getting the lowest marks. There are quite a few complaints about fuel pump failures. However, major components, such as the engine, transmission, brakes and suspension are rated above average, except for the 2011 model. Reported problems include "Check Engine" light issues, squeaks and rattles, electrical problems. Regarding the Volkswagen Emissions recall, we found a good article from above-mentioned Consumer Reports that explains the 'Dieselgate' in details. Check the NHTSA website for outstanding recalls. Does it hold the value? The Jetta TDI holds the value much better than gasoline-powered models. Overall: If you want to save on fuel, the Jetta TDI is one of the possible choices to consider, especially if you have a long commute.

In the Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction survey, the Jetta TDI is rated at the top of the class, with 72 percent of owners indicating they would definitely purchase the same car again. 2015 Jetta TDI update: For 2015, the Jetta TDI has received minor styling and interior updates, a few more available safety features (blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and frontal collision warning) and better fuel economy. The engine and emission systems have been upgraded too. The 2015 Jetta TDI auto is now rated at 31/45 mpg. It's almost as good as hybrids. Maintenance: For the TDI, use only good-quality ULSD fuel. As with any turbo engine, don't shut it off right after spirited driving or after climbing a long uphill stretch of the road; let it idle for a while to cool down the turbocharger. Volkswagen recommends using high-quality synthetic engine oil. If you want your engine to last longer, change your oil more often than the recommended 10K miles / 15K kilometers interval. The diesel fuel filter should be changed every 20,000 miles or 30,000 km. The DSG transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles or 60,000 km. The timing belt in the 2.0L TDI engine needs to be replaced at 120,000 miles (195,000 km). You can check the US maintenance schedule for different models here.

Volkswagen Golf Mark 8 Interior Spied

Volkswagen Golf Mark 8 Interior Spied

New spy photos and a teaser sketch give us our first look at the next-generation Volkswagen Golf's interior. The Golf's interior will be getting a radical redesign with a dual-screen setup and a much more angular look. While the Mark 8 Golf might not come to the U.S., the GTI and Golf R will. We've already seen the next-generation Volkswagen Golf almost completely undisguised, but we had yet to get any look at the interior. Well, now we have, as our spy photographers sent us some shots of a Mark 8 Golf with the interior completely revealed. The car seems to be a lower-spec trim and is equipped with a manual transmission. Also, our friends at Motor1 dug into the 39-page PDF from VW's Annual General Meeting and discovered two new teaser sketches of the Mark 8 Golf, one of which shows almost the entire dashboard and likely depicts a higher trim. The overall look is a big step up from the current Golf. It's also unlike that of any other Volkswagen on sale in the United States or Europe.

A large strip of silver trim runs the length of the dashboard and extends onto the doors; in the teaser drawing, it looks like actual aluminum. A big central screen stands atop the dash, and the gloss-black bezel of the screen flows into the surround of a digital gauge cluster, which is under a hood. On the left side of the cluster, the giant panel keeps flowing and has a set of buttons that might be part of another touchscreen. Last year, Volkswagen's design boss said that the new Golf will have "a total digital environment" with the only analog component being the steering wheel, leading us to suspect that the dual-screen setup will be standard across the board. That's a break from cars like the Jetta and the Arteon, which only offer digital gauge clusters on higher trim levels. The infotainment system itself looks to be totally new, with modern graphics and new functions. At the base of the main touchscreen are a power button for the screen and touch-capacitive controls for the climate-control system.

Visible on the screen are graphics for the temperature and the heated seats, so most climate functions will probably be accessed by the screen. There are almost no other buttons or knobs to be found, aside from a few clustered in between the central air vents that look to control things like the defroster. The car our spies spied has a manual transmission and a fairly traditional center console, with push-button start and buttons for the electronic parking brake. But in the teaser sketch, which shows an automatic Golf, there is a complete absence of a shifter. Instead, it looks like the new Golf will use a setup similar to that of the new Honda Accord, with a series of buttons for selecting gears. To the side of the controls is a long storage slot, and ahead of the shifter is a large covered storage compartment. The rest of the Mark 8 Golf's interior is more evolutionary.

The steering wheel is a new angular design but will look familiar to anyone who has been in a modern Volkswagen. The door cards are more angular, too, and the dashboard itself is fairly sculpted. Like other modern VWs, the air vents seem to spread across the entire dash thanks to clever trim pieces. It's obviously hard to tell from photos like this, but all of the materials seem to be of fairly high quality. Recently, there have been reports that Volkswagen might not bring the standard Golf hatchback and SportWagen to the United States, so we may never see this new interior. At least, not in this spec; we'll still get the GTI and Golf R for sure. In those cars, expect more gloss-black trim, slightly nicer materials, plaid seats on the GTI (with leather as an option and standard on the R), and, we hope, a classic golf-ball shifter.

While Nissan Qashqai bears a handsome price tag and costs around 拢10,416, its premium turns out to be 拢822, which is the cheapest model to insure. Contrary to that, the premium of Volkswagen Golf is calculated as a whopping 拢1,593 while the cost of the car itself is 拢11,066. Talking about the costliest cars, the Mercedes Benz E Class tops the charts with a price tag of 拢19,099 and an insurance cost of 拢1,444. Leaving behind the Merc is BMW 3 series which demands you to pay 拢1,745. The basic reason apart from the pricey cars is that there are more chances of accidents and car thefts in urban areas than in the rest of the places in the country. Drivers in city areas are riskier to insure than those in the countryside and thus, car insurers charge higher premiums from them. Although, you cannot change the place you live, you can certainly take measures to cut down the insurance costs. These steps include parking cars in garages, using the Black Box/ buying a telematics policy, adding a valid driver to the policy and more. If you got the money prepared, Go for it. And it really depends on how long you plan to keep ur car as well. If you are buying a brand new car and only going to keep it for few yrs, you should not have to worry about reliability rating at all. Since VWs are foreign they're nice cars. The GTI is a good model. We have recently gotten a 2.5 Jetta 2009 and it's great looking, and working! 2/3d's the price more of auto parts stores and some brake systems require new rotors the same time pads are replaced. 525. Is this a scam? This is the VW dealership making this recommendation. The car was having trouble going into reverse. Replacing the converter has helped the problem, but sometimes I throw it in reverse, it revs and doesn't do much or reverses very slowly. Everything with the VW dealership is so expensive, I just want to know if this will actually help the problem.

100.00 so I think you are getting hosed. I have a 2003 VW Passat W8 so I feel your pain. If you have the same transmission as I have, you don't have any way of checking your fluid level ( VW didn't put a Dipstick on my auto trans!! That's just dumb). 800. It solved my leak issue, and DID improve my car's shifting. I'd say, give it a try! I'm a long time VW owner ( I've had 3, and put over 400,000 miles on my 1987 Jetta and had no problems). I'll never buy another VW again. They burned you once on the converter job, now they want to burn you again before they actually fix the problem. All you need is a new filter and a fluid change in the transmission. The TDI has decent performance, far better mileage, and better resale value. Go with the TDI.

I say you get a Passat. The new TDI is the best. MK2, either way one that is pretty old. I was thinking of this because obviously older golfs have a much better reputation as solid and reliable cars and i was wondering what your thoughts would be? 1.4 but hopefully the 1.6 model. Don't need to do a massive amount of speed in it, but i don't want it to struggle at 70 or 80 and want fair acceleration. Have you got any experience with the car, and do you think i could get anything better for between 拢500-拢800? Any help much appreciated! It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. I am looking at buying a 1970 VW Bus it has a gas leak that I suspect is the gas tank leaking I know you have to pull the whole engine out to get to the gas tank. VW Polo TGI, Golf TGI Updated With More Range On Natural Gas

VW Polo TGI, Golf TGI Updated With More Range On Natural Gas

Hybrids and electric vehicles may be the future at the Volkswagen Group, but the combustion engine will still dominate many years from now. For those in need of diesel-like fuel economy without the disadvantages of a TDI-powered car, VAG offers a decent number of vehicles powered by gasoline engines that can run on compressed natural gas. Following the launch of the SEAT Arona TGI and the updated Skoda Octavia G-TEC, the VW core brand is unveiling today revised versions of Polo TGI and the bigger Golf TGI. Powered by a 90-hp 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, the supermini has gained a third CNG tank carrying 16.5 liters of natural gas to increase the grand total to 91.5 liters. As per the new and more realistic Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), the subcompact hatchback can now travel for up to 368 kilometers (229 miles) purely in CNG mode. As far as the Golf TGI is concerned, it鈥檚 been upgraded to a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that needs 3.5 - 3.6 kg of natural gas for every 100 kilometers (62 miles) covered. The 130-hp powertrain runs on the TGI Miller combustion process and makes use of a turbocharger benefitting from variable turbine geometry allowing more air to go into the cylinders. Compared to its predecessor, the Golf TGI can travel for an additional 80 km (50 miles) on natural gas while slashing emissions to as low as 95 g/km. VW points out the main advantages of purchasing a car that is CNG-friendly. Not only is it more fuel efficient than a regular gasoline-fueled car of the same size, but it cuts emissions by approximately 25 percent.

The Volkswagen press release below lists the complete changes to all models. As soon as we receive any information on pricing changes we will pass them along. Volkswagen is on a roll in the United States. The most important introduction for 2013 will be the Jetta Hybrid, Volkswagen鈥檚 first offering in the compact hybrid category and VW鈥檚 second-ever hybrid model. This is VW鈥檚 first turbocharged hybrid and the first hybrid in the world to use a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Competitively priced with other compact hybrid sedans, the Jetta Hybrid will offer class-leading performance combined with excellent fuel economy. VW will also add a second convertible to the lineup when the Beetle Convertible goes on sale. The car will be available with 2.5-liter naturally aspirated, 2.0-liter turbocharged, and 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel engines and will feature a fast-acting top that preserves the sleek lines of the coupe. Beetle Convertible is added to the range. Beetle TDI coupe arrives in August. All Turbo models now have a standard armrest.

Turbo with Sunroof, Sound, and Navigation gains new 19-inch 鈥淭ornado鈥?aluminum-alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, and LED license-plate lighting. The Beetle coupe went on sale in 2012 in 2.5-liter and 2.0-liter TSI forms. In August, the Beetle coupe range will be rounded out with the 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel engine that will achieve an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 41 mpg on the highway when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission. Later in 2012, the Beetle Fender Edition will go on sale, in 2.5L and Turbo forms. As well as featuring the award-winning Fender Premium Audio System, this special edition will also have a striking sunburst-style dashboard, Fender logos, special seat stitching, brushed chrome door mirrors, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs, and 18-inch 鈥淒isc鈥?aluminum-alloy wheels. Additionally, Turbo models will get exclusive seat fabric inserts. New front and rear styling enhances an already dramatic design. High-luxury, high-quality interior now has seating for five.

Bi-Xenon headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights are now standard. New exterior colors, wheels, and trim available. The newly refreshed CC went on sale in March. There are two powertrain offerings: a 200-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter TSI, mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels; and a 280-hp VR6 engine driving all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Mated to the manual transmission, the 2.0T achieves EPA estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, while the VR6 4Motion model gets EPA estimates of 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The popular R-line trim line will return to the range at the end of 2012. With interior and exterior enhancements, this makes the CC an even sportier vehicle. Compared with the Sport model on which it is based, the R-Line gains a more aggressive front bumper design that incorporates a large lower air intake and projector-style foglights with a striking chrome motif.
