Golf GTI & Golf R: Attainable performance, refined driving dynamics, expect minimal changes from 2025.

You’re mostly right that the Golf GTI and Golf R remain “attainable performance” cars with refined dynamics—but the claim of minimal changes from 2025 doesn’t quite hold up. For Canada, the 2025 models actually received a meaningful mid‑cycle refresh, including styling updates, new tech, and the end of the manual transmission. auto123.com Motor Illustrated

🔧 What Did Change for 2025

  • Manual transmission discontinued across both GTI and R—DSG only now. auto123.com
  • Exterior refresh with redesigned bumper, new headlamps, and illuminated front logo/light bar. fogolf.com
  • Interior tech upgrades including a new 12.9‑inch infotainment display, replacing the older 8.25‑inch unit. carsbase.com
  • Performance bump for Golf R to 328 hp, making it the most powerful Golf ever sold in Canada. Motor Illustrated
  • Trim simplification for GTI (regular + Autobahn). fogolf.com

🎯 Why 2026 Is Expected to Be a Light‑Change Year

Given the substantial 2025 refresh, the upcoming model year is likely to focus on:

  • Carryover powertrains (no new engines expected).
  • Minor feature reshuffling depending on market demand.
  • Software refinements rather than hardware changes.
  • Pricing adjustments rather than major equipment shifts.

This is typical VW strategy: big mid‑cycle update → 1–2 years of incremental tweaks.

🏁 The “Attainable Performance” Character Still Holds

Both models continue to offer:

  • Sharp, balanced handling
  • Daily‑driver comfort
  • Strong turbo performance
  • High‑quality cabins (especially post‑refresh)

Want a deeper dive?

I can break down:

  • GTI vs. Golf R for Canadian buyers
  • 2025 trim‑by‑trim feature differences
  • Whether you should wait for 2026

Volkswagen Golf R, GTI & GTD (2019) Track Comparison Video

Volkswagen Golf R, GTI & GTD (2019) Track Comparison Video

A racetrack. Three new Volkswagen Golf 7.5s. One racing driver. And, one particularly excited presenter with a stopwatch. Volkswagen recently released a bevy of new 7.5-generation Golfs in South Africa. In this video, we send our race-ace Ashley Oldfield out onto the track in a bid to set the fastest time in each car. With the Golf R's exceptional power and all-wheel-drive, it will certainly set the pace, but how close can the GTI get to the R? And, how well will the GTD compare with the petrol-powered GTI? All of these questions will be answered, and all without the use of any dragons. Want to buy a Volkswagen Golf? Ciro started his first car website at the age of 19 and promptly dented his first ever test car. Surprisingly he鈥檚 still at this motoring journalism thing 7 years later. Ciro is a contributor to Cars.co.za鈥檚 content portal. Catch him present OverdriveTV on SABC3鈥檚 Expresso Show every Friday morning.

The car has cruise control, which is useful. The climate control features worked. The sunroof opened. The legroom up front was more than good enough for two humans. On the Up GTI, though, the system somehow made all the sense in the world. And the difference was the clutch. Depress the clutch, and the car starts up, and you鈥檙e good to go, and it was that small difference that made all of difference. The delay felt less significant since you were doing something while the engine once again fired up. Each stop and start felt like a new lease on life, and pressing the clutch was genuinely exciting, as if the pedal had somehow unlocked an entirely new use after all these years. Also great, of course: the plaid. Man, more cars need plaid. There were no major bad things. I mean to say there was one major bad thing, and that was that the car I was testing, like many cars these days, did not come with a spare tire.

That鈥檚 a fact I normally wouldn鈥檛 have given any thought to until one day, when I was driving in southern France, disaster ensued. I had gotten a flat. And so I opened the fifth door, uncovered the carpet and found the well for the spare tire, though the tire itself wasn鈥檛 there. What was there instead was a mousse kit, which ended up being completely useless, though I was sure I鈥檇 followed the instructions closely. All of which is to say, do yourself a favor and get yourself a jack and a spare. When I got home to New York, and began telling colleagues what happened, their mousse reaction was universal: 鈥淥h, yeah, that shit never works.鈥?Ah. Hmm. I see now. A Volkswagen spokesman told me that all of their cars come with either a spare or the mousse. My only other complaints about the car are less complaints than they are quibbles, and they might even be more cavils than quibbles. I appreciated the (possible) utility of this feature when it comes to saving fuel, but in practice it seemed to want to rush you up the gear ladder more swiftly than is recommended, or necessary.

For a week in Europe driving in various places, my lady and I found that it had plenty of space for two with luggage, though any more than that might have been pushing it. The Up GTI is excellent for city driving, has enough cargo space for regular living, and has a good amount of power. And not too much power, which would make it feel less fun and more tense, since any wrong move with the gas pedal might send you lurching into the car in front of you, or, worse, something living. The Up GTI is sensible with its power. It鈥檚 looking out for you. As we鈥檝e noted, it鈥檚 not the quickest car on paper, but I promise you that that doesn鈥檛 really matter. The Up GTI bangs. It鈥檚 quick but not too quick. It鈥檚 fun without being too much fun. The handling was comfortable on turns, and the braking was reliable; you never felt in less than full control of the car. Sometimes driving it reminded me of karting in the woods when I was a kid.

Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen Golf R

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf R is the fastest, most powerful, and most agile variant of the Golf platform that you can buy today. It's also the most expensive. The R builds on the success of the Golf GTI, a vehicle that I loved so much that I called it "one of the best hot hatches ever." So is the Golf R better than the best? Like the Golf GTI, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf R is powered by the automaker's turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine codenamed EA888. However, the R get a significant retune and a 72-horsepower boost over its stablemate. Total output sits now at 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Power and torque flow through VW's six-speed DSG semi-automatic transmission. The R has no available manual transmission option, so those who love clutching will have to step down to a GTI model. After the gearbox, torque is split and shared between all four wheels via the automaker's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

This setup uses an electronically controlled Haldex center differential to send up to 50-percent of available torque to the rear axle on demand. On paper, the Golf R nips at the heels of the new 305-horsepower Subaru WRX STI. Speaking of twisty roads, the Golf R grips the pavement with 235-width tires wrapped around 19-inch wheels. Changes direction via variable ratio electric power steering with two modes: sport and normal. The Golf R features three preset drive modes that tweak the various aspects of the vehicle's performance with Sport, Normal and Comfort. A fourth Individual preset is customizable, allowing the driver to mix and match settings for the steering, engine and front lighting. In addition to the three drive modes, there's also a three-mode stability control system that progressively reduces the amount of computer intervention at the handling limits from full to moderate to nearly none at all. 2015 Volkswagen GTI Yes, the car that many say was the original hot hatchback in 1975 is still one of the best in that class some 40 years and seven generations later.

2015 Subaru WRX STI With tons of power and gobs of grip, the apex all-wheel drive Subaru performance goes toe to toe with the competition. 2015 Subaru BRZ review The BRZ has less power, but makes up ground with superior handling. 2013 Ford Focus ST When it comes to the drive, this hot hatch does nearly everything right. Adding to the settings mix is our example's optional DCC -- or Dynamic Chassis Control -- adaptive suspension which electronically adjusts the firmness of the ride with comfort, normal and sport settings. These modes are automatically chosen by the drive-mode selector. Personally, I thought that all three settings were fairly sporty, but did notice a bit more of an edge to the bumps in the road and a bit less roll in the firmer settings. It was apparent before I even reached my favorite backroads that the Golf R is head and shoulders a much more potent performer than the GTI. The acceleration is much more immediate, but also less dramatic.

With the 4Motion system splitting torque between all four corners, a launch-controlled hard start wastes no energy squealing the tires. The hatchback simply takes off like a turbocharged bullet, swinging both the speedometer and tachometer with ease. Gear changes from the dual-clutch gearbox are ridiculously quick and almost seamlessly smooth. Upshifts happen within the span of a blink and downshifts are met with computer-precise blips of the throttle that don't upset the chassis. However, the Golf R really starts to shine when the road starts to bend. With its 4Motion all-wheel drive system, the rear wheels aren't just along for the ride like they are in the front-wheel drive GTI. I was able to more liberally add power after a tight apex and to carry a bit more speed through broader, sweeping bends. The steering offers the same level of excellent feedback that made me fall in love with the GTI, but the R feels much more planted.

In Contrast To The Previous Model

The Volkswagen begins accepting advance orders for the new Volkswagen Golf Variant. In the sixth generation of the world bestseller, after the 2-door and 4-door VW Golf and the latest Volkswagen Golf Plus, this is the fourth body version to be launched. The estate is one of the most successful models on the market, particularly in the company car market. The extensive redesign of this Estate should ensure that the all-around talent further extends its position as a business estate car and as a first car for families as well. The front end of the Volkswagen Golf Variant was completely redesigned. Its visual appearance follows today's Volkswagen "Design DNA". From now its appearance is defined by clear horizontal lines and bold headlight styling. The car's engine lineup was adopted directly from the Volkswagen Golf 2-door and 4-door models. In the interior, the high-end instruments of the current Volkswagen Golf set the tone. At its market launch - in parallel to advance sales that are now starting - the successful Estate (more than 95,000 new vehicle registrations in 2008) will be offered in the three equipment versions Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.

The latter replaces the previous Sportline version as the top equipment line. Engines available for selection when advance sales begin are a TSI (boosted gasoline direct-injection engine) with 90 kW / 122 PS and two very quiet common rail turbo-diesels (77 kW / 105 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS). Other engines will follow in stages: two Multipoint engines (59 kW / 80 PS and 75 kW / 102 PS) and another TSI gasoline engine (118 kW / 160 PS). All six engines fulfil the new Euro-5 emissions standard. In front, the new VW Golf Variant can be recognized by its new bumper, radiator grille and engine hood styling and its modified fenders and headlights, which were all adapted 1:1 from the estate's 2-door and 4-door counterparts. In contrast to the previous model, the front-end design is no longer defined by a chrome radiator grille, rather by a black, horizontally layout of the grille and front bumper painted in car colour. In the lower area, the Estate has an additional large air inlet too.

Starting with the mid-level equipment version (Comfortline), chrome inserts are integrated in the radiator grille and the lower air inlet. In the top Highline version, this also applies to the frames for the front fog lights with new static turning light function that are a standard feature here. At the rear, the independent design of the previous model has been upgraded in the new generation by modified, more elegant taillights and bumpers fully painted in car colour in the lower area. From now on, TDI and TSI versions can also be recognized by their tailpipes, which are no longer covered by the bumper. In addition, Volkswagen developed a new wheel lineup for the new Volkswagen Golf Variant. The sixth generation VW Golf received excellent marks, especially for its high-end quality. In the interior, it was especially in the styling of the gauges that the Golf crossed boundaries to the next higher class and still does. The same gauges and instruments, including a standard multifunctional display and upshift indicator, are now being used in the new Volkswagen Golf Variant too. In this context, controls for the new Golf climate control system were integrated in the VW Golf Variant as well.

Volkswagen also adapted its line of different seat covers (Trendline: "Roxy"; Comfortline: "Scout"; Highline: Alcantara/fabric "Merlin") to the entire model series. The same applies to features ranging from the radio and navigation systems up to the interfaces for MP3 players and Bluetooth mobile telephones. Two driver assistance systems are also available as options for the first time in the Volkswagen Golf Variant: "ParkAssist" (automatic parking assistant) and "Rear Assist" (rearview camera). Another feature being offered is the panorama sunroof that is popular among many Volkswagen Golf Variant buyers. Volkswagen is launching the new VW Golf Variant on the market with four gasoline and two diesel engine options; they all meet the limits of the new Euro-5 standard. The entry level continues to be marked by an 80-PS gasoline engine, followed by a 102-PS version. The two most powerful gasoline engines (TSI with 122 PS and 160 PS) and the two turbo-diesels (TDI with 105 PS and 140 PS) may be ordered with an optional automatic DSG dual clutch transmission. The entirely new to the Volkswagen Golf Variant's engine lineup is the 105 PS common rail TDI.

Like the larger 2.0-liter TDI, the 1.6-liter four cylinder is also characterized by noticeably comfortable noise levels, low emissions (119 g/km CO2) and an extremely low average fuel consumption (4.5 litres per hundred kilometres). Compared to the previous model of the same power, fuel consumption was reduced by 0.7 litre. The 2.0 TDI was adopted from the previous generation of the VW Golf Variant; it also has a highly advanced common rail direct injection system. The 140 PS strong and 210 km/h fast Volkswagen Golf Variant 2.0 TDI consumes 5.0 litre (132 g/km CO2), which is impressively low considering its power. The TDI engines may be ordered together with any of the three equipment versions. The gasoline engines of the Volkswagen Golf Variant have power levels of 80 PS (MPI), 102 PS (MPI), 122 PS (TSI) and 160 PS (TSI). The base engine with 80 PS is available with the Trendline equipment line; the 102-PS version may be ordered as a VW Golf Variant Trendline or VW Golf Variant Comfortline. The TSI engines can each be ordered together with the Comfortline or Highline equipment versions. How efficiently the current gasoline engines from Volkswagen perform is well-illustrated by the TSI. Its 6.3 litre (122 PS) and 6.4 litre (160 PS) fuel consumption values place their average fuel consumption on par with the already economical base engine with 80 PS. When shifted by a DSG transmission, fuel consumption is even reduced to 6.0 litres per 100 kilometres (139 g/km CO2) on the 122-PS TSI and 6.1 litres (143 g/km CO2) on the 160-PS version. With this engine lineup, the new Volkswagen Golf Variant is one of the most economical and cleanest estate cars in Europe.

Standards Agreed For Smartphone Car Keys

2018 Honda Accord - Price, Reviews, Specs & News - Motor Trend
Smartphones could soon be used to unlock and start cars, after a consortium of car makers and tech companies agreed a new set of standards for smartphone car keys. Tesla owners can already use a dedicated app instead of a key to access and start the Model S, Model X and Model 3, but the CCC’s new set of protocols will create an industry-first “standardisation solution”. The 1.0 specification has generated “extensive interest from automotive and smartphone manufacturers”, resulting in work beginning on the “Digital Key Release 2.0 specification”. This second iteration is under development by all of the parties responsible for the first specification, plus Audi, General Motors, and a number of other companies. An spokesperson from Volkswagen said the company “has supported and contributed to Digital Key Standardization activity of CCC from the first day”. Audi said the CCC protocols will “lay the building blocks for innovative services”, while BMW said it would deliver “a superior user experience” to customers.

Volkswagon Touareg from an owners perspective. The Volkswagon Touareg provides a great combination of the sport and luxury feel into one. The seats are very comfortable but don't quite hold you like a sports car. The car is equipped with great, easy to use features including navigation and Bluetooth. The Touareg has great maneuverability along with great visibility allowing the driving to navigate the roads with confidence. The backseats have decent leg room along with good head room and will comfortably fit two. With three backseat passengers, the back can be a little snug with a lack of leg room and arm room for the middle passenger. The trunk has a sufficient amount of space able to contain what the driver needs. A good example would be that it can fit multiple bags of golf clubs. The driving experience is very tight and sporty. The Touareg provides the driver with both comfort and a sporty feel, allowing for a combination of usability and fun for the driver. In the end, the Volkswagon Touareg is a great vehicle providing the driver with all their everyday needs and a dose of fun.

Skoda Rapid has been raising a lot of hue and cry over the last few days and finally all the commotion will come to an end when the company launches the car by the end of this month. The car is expected to do pretty well because of its entry level positioning and off course the high tech features that one usually associates with the Skoda. The company is looking to go the way of the masses with its entry level sedans and target huge volumes in the process. This is the first time the company is coming up with an entry level sedan car in the Indian market with the launch of Skoda Rapid. As of now the company has still kept the price of the car under wraps but the car can be expected to be priced competitively. From the media reports, the market positioning and the features one can expect the price of the car to be around the price range of Rs. 7.50 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh as per ex-showroom data.

Automobile Reviews Simply Done: Make Way For Santa Fe

2020 Vw Touareg USA RedesignWe think a new term should be coined after this vehicle, “We’re Santa Fe’d”. Placed in the market to appeal to the young banker or the under thirty something population (including damsels in motoring distress), Hyundai calls this machine a soft-roader. An SUV for snob value, more show, but just enough go. The last generation Santa Fe resembled something you ate for breakfast - a croissant. Puffy at all the wrong places and it kept throwing its weight around on fat rubber. The Santa Fe for 2007 is designed in USA and built to appeal to the young gen American (so they claim). Smooth flowing lines dominate its exterior with the trademark Hyundai smiley radiator grille. Wrap around projector headlamps and precariously low fog lamps make an impressive front with a long sloping bonnet accentuated by subtle creases. It looks best from a three quarter angle. Large 18-inch alloy rims shadowed by bulging wheel arches define its stance. The tail light cluster, tail-gate and dual exhaust tubes are sleek in appearance. She just visited the beautician. It still retains its side handle to open the lift-up mechanism at the rear.

And we would like to bring to your notice the “4WD” badge on side of the Santa Fe - it’s not just text, it’s full time. The Santa Fe doesn’t have that big a heart, producing just 138 bhp from a 2.7 litre V6 power plant at 6000 RPM it manages to do a decent job on the road. The torque figures are what impress. Belching out 248 Nm @ 4000 RPM, mid-range power delivery is her forte. A 4-speed automatic tranny with on the fly tip-tronic control seems to eat away at whatever the engine produces. Acceleration from standstill is anything but tarmac shredding, 0-100kph comes up in 11.4 seconds. On the black, she performed better than expected, unlike other tall SUVs which display tremendous body roll, the Santa Fe seemed calm and composed even while taking sharp turns. The feedback from the steering is positive and we could always feel the changing road surface with excellent track, handling and minimal yaw or pitch.

A long wheelbase of 2700mm aids its comfortable ride, and it has dropped its control-arm rear suspension for a multilink setup while retaining a strut-type front-suspension. Off the road we can’t emphasize enough about how hard we tried to get it stuck in really bad terrain. Knowing it doesn’t have the power to climb treacherous rock faced mountain faces, we even gave it that with 4 passengers on board! And the result - not once did it get stuck, lose composure, or huff and puff and sink. The little 2.7 litre monster just took all the thrashing we gave it with the electronic 4WD lock positively engaged via a small button behind the shift lever. We call the engine little because looking at the size of the vehicle and its kerb weight of over 1.8 tons, it managed pretty well. 235/60R18 Kumho Sports Touring tyres are responsible for all that she did on and off the road coupled with a short turning radius of 5.45 metres which make it a joy for chuck-ability. Interiors - now this is where all the efforts seem to lose focus. The model we tested came with leather upholstery and it looked and felt like anything but leather. The instrument lights are bright enough to blind you, though there is a dimmer dial to the rescue. In cabin noise is low and CD audio system up to expectations. Hard plastic panels and dash garnished with garish fake wood is not our idea of pleasing interiors. Regular buffed aluminium finish plastic will do Hyundai. ABS, EBD and ESP are standard features with disc brakes on all four wheels. Driver and front passenger air-bags are the norm these days but in the new Santa Fe’s case, it also enjoys a 4-star safety rating from EuroNCAP, though that is only for models with the full entourage of over 8 airbags. We’re flipping to think why there aren’t enough Santa Fes on the road.

Likely To Not Require Any Manual Latching

Acura RSX Type S (DC5)Although the all-new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle’s most notable change might be its lowered roof line, the German automaker is set to change things even further when it releases a Cabriolet version later this year. Expected to debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet will be offered worldwide as an alternative to the fixed roof example. A droptop version of the outgoing New Beetle (which wasn’t so new at the time) debuted for 2003, five years after the coupe model. Despite the wait, it proved tremendously popular, quickly changing the New Beetle’s image to that of a fun-loving beach cruiser. The wait won’t be quite as long for the second-generation reborn Beetle, which loses its “new” nomenclature. A quick-stowing, fully insulated power top will be standard. Likely to not require any manual latching, it will hide away behind the rear seats to take up as little room as possible. A heated glass rear window will also be standard. Otherwise, the Beetle Cabriolet will essentially mirror its hardtop sibling. Only two powertrains are expected to be offered in the droptop variant - the hardtop’s available TDI diesel unit won’t make the cut. That means that retro-minded sun worshippers will have to choose between a 170 horsepower five-cylinder or a 201-pony turbocharged four. Both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions will be on offer, although the base model may not be available with the row-it-yourself unit.

Instead, the lineup will be for the foreseeable future will be exclusively made up of tunes of the same V6 diesel found in the Audi. There will be a staggered launch of the 2019 Touareg in Australia. Emissions testing is not complete on the two 'permanent' variants, set to arrive in late spring; arriving in May will essentially be a tide-over model badged as a Launch Edition, using a 190kW/550Nm tune of the 3.0-litre V6 TDI. 90,000 210kW/600Nm '210TDI' are rated to the more efficient Euro 6 emissions standard. Once the 170TDI and 210TDI arrive, the 190TDI will no longer be sold. Far more sophisticated technology is available on the new Touraeg, and while specification is yet to be confirmed for Australia, we are aware that standard kit on all grades will include a generous suite of active safety tech. This will include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and the ability to deal with driver incapacitation.

In addition, rangewide standard fare will include LED headlights, leather seats, and wheels starting at 19 inches. The initial Launch Edition model will include some key options designed to tempt upgraders into the new model early on. We expect the Launch Edition will include the optional air suspension, 20-inch wheels and higher-grade leather trim, among other things. Going forward, the 170TDI base model will ride on steel springs, while the 210TDI - on larger wheels - will have air suspension, and standard spec will be higher on the more powerful vehicle. In other words, you aren't just buying more power - you'll get more kit, too. Customisation will be available by way of option packages, which is typical for Volkswagen in Australia. At least one package will revolve around off-roading, bringing more sophisticated ESC modes tailored to specific terrain, plus underbody protection. Sportier styling will be offered by way of an R-Line package that has proved incredibly popular on the Tiguan.

A further package, potentially called the Sound and Style package, will boost cabin tech to include the Innovision Cockpit: a huge 15-inch central touchscreen, 12-inch digital driver's display, and a windscreen-projected colour head-up display. It's something of a shame that the Innovision Cockpit won't be standard given Volkswagen Australia's penchant for equipping our cars with the highest levels of global infotainment. We think the Innovision arrangement, with its enormous canvas screen in the centre, is the Volkswagen Group's best interior tech yet - better even than Audi's new dual-pane touchscreen setup. We do buy the brand's argument that some of the older demographic buying into Touareg motoring may find the huge screens a bit much - and the standard, 9.2-inch touchscreen and analogue speedo and tacho will feel more approachable. Uniquely, the small screen comes with hard buttons and dials for the climate control - in the Innovision setup, everything is controlled through the screen.

2019 Volkswagen Touareg Monochrome Review

Volkswagen Touareg is named after the Tuareg people in the Sahara, known for their resilience and endurance. The current (second generation) car, made in Bratislava, is due for replacement next year. It has been around since 2010 and shares the platform and much of the tech with the Porsche Cayenne. The world has shifted away from passenger cars in favour macho-minded activity vehicles collectively called SUVs. This is perhaps why Touareg’s metalwork looks as solid as a Sherman tank. It can easily be pictured towing a horse float, boat, or god forbid, a caravan. A 2015 upgrade saw Volkswagen graft on that year’s latest corporate face to brighten up the front of the Touareg. It has standard LED DTRLs, fancy Bi-Xenon auto headlights, and round the back, LED taillights. For highway driving there are foglamps front and back. These are the super annoying bright lights drivers turn on and forget to turn off. Front fog lights have static cornering which will illuminate sideways during turns.

Porsch, Diesel, DefaultUnlike most other Volkswagens, the rear tail gate uses a rubber button to open instead of grabbing the VW badge. The button and reversing camera sit under a ledge on the surface of the hatch which leaves them open to being covered in schmutz. 19” Moab alloy wheels in the “Monochrome” make the SUV look slightly more menacing than it otherwise would. There is still touch of assassin-in-a-dinner-suit elegance about the style which appeals to me as much now as it did when it was released. Character lines have been kept to a minimum. It makes the design appear simple an uncluttered. There is a graceful sweeping waistline allowing for plenty of glass. It makes for decent all-round vision despite the considerable size. The front bumper looks forceful, yet simple. Strong angular supports in the lower bumper have a “don’t mess with me” stance. Like most SUVs, the Volkswagen Touareg is not an off-roader in the true sense of the word, though you could certainly tackle a little light work in the gravel if you wanted to.

Interiors are where drivers are going to spend most of their time with a car. The cabin has a peaceful ambience created by restrained yet tasteful design. Subtle curves, quality finishes, and good ergonomics, make the driver’s seat a nice place to be, especially in the highway. Volkswagen says the interior is luxurious, but although it feels and looks like good quality, luxury is not the word I would use. Touareg’s seats have power adjustment with two tone Vienna leather upholstery. The “monochrome” edition has adaptive cruise but misses out of the thumping audio system of the top model. There is plentiful storage with a bin above the audio system, 4 cup holders, and a bottle holder in each front door. The glove box is chilled and has a separate sunglasses holder. There is a drawer under each front seat for knickknacks, and cubbies in the rear. Driver instruments have conventional dials with an MFD (multi-function display) LCD between them. Menus in the MFD access features such as the invaluable digital speedo, as well as trip and car settings. You can flip between menus using the steering wheel buttons.

There are further vehicle settings in the centre infotainment screen. Here, you’ll also find SatNav, audio, climate, and media interface controls. It is one of Volkswagen’s older systems and does not include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. You can stream music through Bluetooth and USB cable. As always, there is handsfree through “hey Siri”. On-board voice control was uncooperative in our test car but was not missed. In all the years I’ve been testing cars, I’ve never used in-vehicle voice control for anything other than test purposes. CarPlay and Siri have the benefit of the interwebz. Vehicle voice control relies on data stored locally on-board, and as such is almost always useless. A web-based hive mind always trumps a few gig in a car, unless of course there is no cell in range. Steering is hydraulic and feels heavy at first. You quickly get used to it, and you find you can fling the 2146kg monster around like a toy.

Remember, you can only have automated parking if you have electric power steering. There are 3 engines in the range, a 150 and 180kw V6, and a 250kw V8 with an earth-moving 800Nm of torque. Our 150kW engine never felt underpowered, and the leisurely 8.5 second 0-100 sprint eschews the fact that Touareg is huge. Once upon a time SUVs had a well deserved reputation for being gas guzzlers but that is no longer valid. In fact, some SUVs are more economical than family cars of a similar size. Volkswagen clings valiantly to some hope of Touareg ever venturing off-road. They claim the approach/departure angles of 25° (27 ° in air suspension models) and ramp-over angle of 20° (22° in air suspension models) is just the ticket for scaling viewing mounds at polo matches in a single bound. You can tow up to 3,500kg remembering you can’t then load another 2,000kg inside the plucky VeeDub. Driving is a floaty experience even on the standard sprung suspension.

Review: 2019 Volkswagen EGolf Is An Excellent, Affordable EV

The roads that connect the clusters of crumbling forts and sepia-toned villas with their romantic archways and terracotta tiles here are not exactly driver-friendly. They twist more than crisscross. They dump suddenly into whirling traffic circles. They meander through grassy fields dotted with sheep and then, 'round that blind bend, squeak without warning into one-lane, crumbling-edged doozies. Watch out for that gutter there, eh? Oh, and the cyclists. The reams and reams of cyclists you will share the road with - even if it seems like there is no room to share. Successfully traversing these (read: not damaging oneself, a cyclist, a sheep or a shiny side panel) while also defending the mind from jet lag requires one thing: a responsive, reliable vehicle. As it turns out, the most pleasing thing about tackling a sunset drive here after a 27-hour sojourn slowed by bad weather, unpaved runways and a plane with broken doors was the vehicle I was given the keys to. What made it exciting?

Except for the purr of a gas-powered engine, driving the new all-electric version of the tried-and-true vehicle that Volkswagen has sold more than 30 million of felt exactly like old times. The fun, familiar-but-nimble-on-the-blacktop old times. When the 2017 eGolf arrives in Canadian dealerships this June, it will face a growing but cautious market of EV drivers hungry for confidence-inspiring options. Although increasingly enthusiastic, buyers are still working to convince themselves that, if they buy a battery-powered vehicle, they will ultimately be okay. Out there. On the open road. With the eGolf, one most certainly will. With a range of 200 kilometres on a full charge (you'll likely get more than that based on my test), the VW offers about the best fully electric value and range-for-dollars on the Canadian market. Transport Canada has determined the fuel-efficiency equivalent to be 2.0 litres/100 kilometres. 2017 VW eGolf rear hatch. While Tesla offers more than 500 kilometres of range, both of the upstart's available models come with a six-figure price tag. 44,000 before rebates and incentives.

The eGolf's range is lower. 35,995 before tax. And for that, it comes nicely equipped. 2,300 if you want safety features such as blind-spot assist or rear cross-traffic alert). Bluetooth comes standard as does air conditioning, a heat pump, cruise control, remote keyless entry and push-button start. The list goes on. 14,000 off the eGolf's sticker price. That would put its cost squarely in line with an entry-level gas-powered Golf, but with more bells and whistles. 5,000 back. Its novelty will pique the interest of dyed-in-the-wool Golf aficionados and many can expect to be won over by the fact that it handles similarly to its gas-powered counterpart (although the lack of engine makes it much quieter). Instead of gas stations, owners can power up on a DC fast-charger - it takes 30 minutes for an 80 per cent charge. The eGolf's pricing makes the vehicle a no-brainer for anyone shopping around for a fully electric vehicle.

Not only does it ring competitively, it delivers the most distance for that money. In today's EV market, that combination could add up to a big win for VW. 2017 VW eGolf recharging. 2017 VW eGolf interior. Looks: The eGolf looks, well, like a Golf. And for this there are big points. Rather than opting for an alien transformation in appearance, when VW electrified the Golf, it made it look just like the real thing (plus some unique blue trim details on the headlights, badging and steering wheel). A palette of 30 optional exterior colours means aficionados can opt for a custom paint job. Interior: There’s little that differentiates the eGolf on the inside from its cool, gas-powered predecessor. The motif is sleek and uncluttered; the digital cockpit and integrated touch-screen are intuitive to navigate. Performance: The 134-horsepower VW has packed into the single-speed electric transmission puts out more excitement than it appears to on paper.

Speak EV - Electric Car Forums

2016 Volkswagen e-Golf - CarHagg - Changing the Way ...
Welcome to Speak EV, the electric car forum for all EV owners and enthusiasts. Our aim is to create the best, most inclusive EV forum for all makes and models of electric car. We'd love for you to join up and join in. It's quick, simple and free! Which colour will you buy your e-Golf in? Which colour will you buy your e-Golf in? I am tempted by Atlantic Blue, but I fear it will be a lot darker than in the Configurator pictures. White Silver is a safe choice. It's going to have to be the Indium Grey for us, boring but the only colour we can both agree on! When we saw the White Silver in the showroom we decided to go for that. I saw a Black Golf in the showroom and it looked great, but my last two cars have been black! The Atlantic Blue looks a bit weird on many pics on Google, so not too sure about that. So, if I don't want Black again it's probably between White Silver and Indium Grey.

But, looking at the white car outside the window, I'm thinking white could look pretty smart. I think I'll ask! The black looks nice, but exactly the same as my ZOE. So, Indium Grey it is! Jonathan Oates likes this. Nobody likes Peacock Green then! My 4yo son actually wanted me to get Peacock Green. 5yo daughter wants me to get the Yellow (which is so vulgar it isn't even in this poll?!). I said the yellow looks a bit dirty, it's not a bright yellow. She said "Why don't we go to a different garage that cleans their yellow then?"! Jp1 and Tim Ostler like this. They really should give the full range of colours, they have some great colours but they aren't availble in the eGolf. We wanted a change as we currently have all grey cars. The only one that we thought we would want that we both agree on was the white silver.

It isn't great, but it isn't a dark grey, silver or white, all colours we didn't want. We considered black but like chrome trims to stop it looking too plain. The eGolf seems to be missing most of the chrome trims. Now I’ve seen a few White Silver on the road now and I’m going off it. It looks too ‘blue’. Have a look to see what cars your local dealer has in the respective colours (doesn't have to be an e-golf or even a golf). I changed my mind about my GTE colour about 20 times before I actually went to the dealership to see what the colours look like on the cars. Yeah, I'm glad I went the dealer or I would've ordered Atlantic Blue or even worse, White Silver! Yeah, I'm glad I went the dealer or I would've ordered Atlantic Blue or even worse, White Silver!

I’d like to see Atlantic Blue on a Golf, otherwise it will be Tungsten Silver. I’d like to see Atlantic Blue on a Golf, otherwise it will be Tungsten Silver. It looks good in photos but it seemed kinda purpleish to me when bright light reflected of it, so looked a bit weird. Based on the pics, I probably would've gone with it! When looking at colour choices I think it is important to see the colour on the model you are likely going to buy. Maybe it's just me but I do find that different colours suit different models, a shade that looks good on a say a Polo, the same colour can look totally different on say the body style of a Tiguan. I have seen three Golf's all along side each other in the show room only a couple of weeks ago. They had been all fully prepped ready for a special sales promo due to start the following day.

A Comprehensive Review

大众高尔夫According to annual SitePoint framework popularity survey, CakePHP is one of the most popular PHP frameworks of 2015. The open source web framework is distributed under the MIT license. So it can be used by the large, midsize and small enterprises with out paying licensing fee. At the same time, the availability of development materials and resources makes it easier for programmers to learn and use this framework within a shorter amount of time. The developers can further avail the assistance of the large CakePHP community to resolve development issues without any delay. Despite being written in PHP, CakePHP is designed based on Ruby on Rails concepts. It also supports some of the commonly used software development concepts including model-view-controller (MVC) and convention over configuration (CoC). The MVC architecture makes it easier for programmers to develop large-scale enterprise websites by keeping the business logic and presentation layers separate. Likewise, they can easily set up the framework without having worrying about the complex XML or YAML files.

They can start using the web framework immediately after configuring the database. CakePHP further helps programmers to save time by using several batteries or libraries constructed into the PHP MVC frameworks. They can use the built in bookcases batteries to accomplish common tasks like database access, caching, translation, validation and authentication. Also, they can use the built-in security tools provided by the framework to prevent cross site scripting (XSS) attacks, cross site request forgery (CSRF), SQL injection, and form tampering. The tools further make it easier for programmers to validate user input without the need of writing additional code. However, at the same time CakePHP falls behind in popularity when compared to Laravel, Symfony2, CodeIgniter, Yii 2, and Zend Framework 2. Many users feel that it lacks some of the advanced features provided by other PHP frameworks. It requires users to update the default route while generating custom URLs. The one-way routing system supported by it also impacts the database access and operation adversely.

The beginners further find it easier to learn CodeIgniter than CakePHP. Likewise, the documentation for the framework also needs improvement. However, the framework is built in shelves being updated at period intervals with advanced features and enhancements. Version 3 comes with a number of new features to compete with other popular PHP frameworks available inside the market. The most recent version of the framework comes with a new ORM which is inspired by similar tools provided by other PHP frameworks. The specialized and focused classes provided by the ORM to solve several issues. The users can take advantage of the Table, Query and Entity classes to perform database operations more efficiently. As CakePHP was earlier using a static session management built ins class, developers have to explore ways to make session management more efficient. CakePHP 3 enables developers to access sessions directly from the request object. The new feature makes it easier for users to test sessions effectively, while taking advantage of testing tools like PHPUnit 4.x. The updated version of the web framework further provides enhanced support for CookieComponent, FlashComponent and FlashHelper.

CakePHP 3 enables developers to use a plug-in as a theme. The themes now provide functionality to similar to plug-ins. So the plug-ins can now be packages and redistributed more efficiently. The version 3 built in cabinets of the framework also comes with a number of new helpers to eliminate repetitive development tasks. The programmers can use TimeHelper to display, format and evaluate time values more efficiently. Likewise, they can use TextHelper to format URLs using their preferred words or phrases. The feature further enables them to optimize the web page for search engines by including relevant and appropriate keywords inside the URL. However, the users will take time to learn and use the most recent version of CakePHP. It no longer support functions like LogError(), config(), cache() and clearCache(). It further supports 5.4.16, while requiring both mbstring and intl extensions. The support for PHP version will not have any impact on developers as most modern web applications are developed using the most recent version of the programming language. On the whole, the third version of this framework comes with new features to overcome the issues and shortcomings highlighted by developers who are into CakePHP framework development.

To Make The Comparison Realistic

EN Full electric (FEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles are promising, forward-looking technologies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other pollution related to road transport. The powertrain of a FEV is composed of a battery, control electronics and the electric motors. A PHEV has much lower battery capacity but it contains an extra internal combustion engine and gearbox. Many argue that FEVs are more energy-efficient than internal combustion engines. However, this energy needs to be stored in heavy, large-capacity battery packs that require plenty of energy and resources to produce as well as highly polluting rare earth elements mining. In this article, an environmental comparison of FEVs and PHEVs is shown using life cycle assessment (LCA). To make the comparison realistic, two models similar in size and power have been selected: Volkswagen E-Golf FEV and Volkswagen GTE PHEV. Results show that the production of FEVs need more energy and it means more burden on the environment however during the use phase it causes less emissions. Since the local electricity production mix and, in case of PHEVs, the user behaviour highly affects the results, three different countries (Hungary, Poland and Norway) and two different use types are considered. The quantified environmental footprints as well as the break-even distances are presented. Sensitivity of the results towards the assumed conditions during the whole design lifetime of the vehicles is discussed.

Then I did a search online and your post was one of the top to show up. I called pep boys (Redlands, CA) and they had the part, although they were skeptical that it would be the solution. Picked up the brake light switch for 9.99 and installed back at home in about 3 minutes (the hardest part was finding a towel to put on the ground to kneel on). I now have brake lights and I can shift from park without accessing the shift unlock button. I'm going to try to fix my 2007 aveo its a shame we have to do this .. Thank you thank you! I didn't even know my lights were not working. I just thought it was weird that I couldn't move my car out of park without the emergency break lock and my Dad alerted me to the fact that my break lights were out. Since he isn't here to help me put the part in (I also had it order the part) your instructions have helped me immensely!

Thanks for the help. I was having a tough time trying to find the dang part. I'm good with engines, not electrical stuff. Wow, you were the first hit when I typed in 'chevy aveo brake lights not working' and sure enough, that was the problem! I know how to change a tire and a light bulb, but otherwise no mechanical aptitude here, and it only took me about two minutes. My car CONSTANTLY gets stuck in park, but this was the first time the brake lights all went out - maybe that was the problem all along! Thanks for the info! My car just did this today, I hope that is all that is wrong with it. You just saved me big time. I just replaced the part and the break lights are working great. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Thank you so much! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I ended up purchasing the part through a local Chevy dealership since I had a tough time finding it other places (and I wanted to be sure it was the correct part for my year and model).

I have the EXACT same problem with my '08 Aveo, and we just tried fixing it ourselves. We know it's the brake switch, but I need to know where to buy it, any suggestions? Gee, you think you could provide a part number? Just did this in 2 minutes thanks to you! I couldn't find anything else near as descriptive. Thank you so much for posting this! I have an Aveo (standard). For the info of your followers, the standard version has a switch (neutral safety switch) above the clutch which. If the metal inside this breaks then your car won't start - period. It is the same proceedure as you describe to change this switch above the clutch. One little hint though it is sometimes easier to twist the switch off and then unplug the wiring. I actually took the safety switch apart and soddered the tiny metal pieces back together and then reassembled it and re-installed it. My 9 yr old daughter helped and was over the moon to think that she helped fix the car! I too have an 05 aveo having the same issue right now thinking it was gonna be super expensive.. Thank you so much for your description. I am going to attempt it tomorrow.
