2019 VW Touareg Revealed, But It's Not Coming To The U.S

Volkswagen has finally unveiled the third generation 2019 VW Touareg, but before you get too excited there’s one big caveat - it’s not coming to the United States. Now that the U.S. Atlas, there’s no room for the Touareg in VW’s lineup here, but if you’re outside the U.S. ’ll be happy to hear that the new Touareg is more luxurious and bigger. The 2019 VW Touareg is based on the VW Group’s MLB platform, which is used by the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, Audi Q7 and even the new Lamborghini Urus. The new Touareg is a bit bigger than its predecessor, with its length being stretched 3.0-inches and its width being growing 1.7-inches. The bigger dimensions provide a bigger interior and more cargo space. The good news is that even though the 2019 Touareg is bigger, the SUV is now 234 pounds lighter thanks to more aluminum and high strength steel. From the front the new Touareg adopts a face that looks close to the new Arteon with its wide grille. The headlights are a lot more techy than they look since they are what VW calls LED matrix headlights with a whopping 128 LEDs per headlight. The front of the new Touareg is where most of the differences, since as you move back towards the rear the overall changes are more evolutionary than a drastic redo. Inside the interior is full of the latest tech with a massive 15-inch touchscreen in the center console and a 12-inch screen in front of the driver. In Europe, Volkswagen will initially offer two V6 diesel engines for the new Touareg with outputs of 228-hp and 281-hp. In some markets a 335-hp V6 gas engine and a 415-hp V8 turbodiesel will be offered. A new plug-in hybrid Touareg with 362-hp is being prepared for China.

This allows the new BMW X5 to coast without engine braking, for maximised fuel efficiency. In conjunction with the optional Navigation system Professional, highly fuel-efficient ECO PRO navigation routes can be selected. When the navigation system is activated, the Proactive Driving Assistant function also tells the driver exactly when to ease off the accelerator when approaching corners or a speed-restricted section of road, in order to save fuel. Along with the additional ECO PRO mode functions, the new BMW X5 also comes with many other BMW EfficientDynamics features. These include Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start Stop function, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, low roll-resistance tyres and a variety of weight- and drag-reducing features. Along with other measures, use of ultra-high-tensile steels in the body structure, thermoplastics in the side panels, aluminium in the bonnet and magnesium in the instrument panel support make the new BMW X5 the lightest vehicle in its class.

Intelligent lightweight design also means that the significantly increased standard specification compared with the previous model does not translate to increased vehicle weight. Indeed, depending on the model, the new BMW X5 actually tips the scales as much as 90 kg lighter than a comparably equipped corresponding model from the previous X5 generation. The BMW X5 also offers best-in-class aerodynamic design. Sports Activity Vehicles are a vehicle segment first defined by BMW. Their combination of confident, sure-footed off-road traction and sporty but comfortable on-road driving has made them a global success. The new BMW X5 represents a further evolution of these qualities, incorporating refinements to the all-wheel-drive system and chassis technology. Using the standard-fitted Driving Experience Control switch on the centre console, the drive settings can be matched to the requirements of the moment or to different driving situations. The suspension packages available for the new BMW X5 cater to individual requirements in terms of comfortable or sporty driving styles. The Comfort Adaptive Suspension package comprises Dynamic Damper control and air suspension with automatic self-levelling rear suspension. The electronic control logic adapts the damping characteristics to changing road conditions and driving situations.

Two different damping modes can be selected using the Driving Experience Control switch. The same functionality is also provided by the Adaptive M suspension, which is standard on the BMW X5 M50d and also part of the M Sport package for the other model versions. The various components of the Dynamic Adaptive Suspension package provide significantly sportier cornering dynamics. Dynamic Performance Control and the Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation optimise directional stability and reduce body roll. Finally, the Professional Adaptive Suspension package maximises both comfort and dynamics. This option combines the components of the Comfort and Dynamic Suspension packages into an integrated system offering highest levels of driving enjoyment in all situations. All versions of the new BMW X5 are equipped as standard with Electric Power Steering. For the BMW X5 xDrive50i and the BMW X5 xDrive30d, active steering is optionally available which, in addition to varying the power assist, also adjusts the steering input required to turn the wheels in relation to vehicle speed.

A Brief History Of Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche was an automobile engineer with more than a thousand patents to his name, and played an important role in the development of airplanes and the construction of tanks for the Wehrmacht as well. In the 1920s he was appointed chief engineer at Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart and later set up his own engineering workshop. There he designed, among other things, the Volkswagen. He acted as chief of operations at the plant where the Volkswagen was made, Wolfsburg, and at the end of the war he was interned by the Allies. He was released a few years later and immediately went to work building his first car with his son, Ferry Porsche. This car was named the Porsche 356, after Ferry, and was a sports car with styling reminiscent of the Volkswagen. In fact it had the same four-cylinder boxer engine, and wore it rear-mounted, just as the VW did.

This meant that it was far from being a powerful sports car, boasting a mere 40 bhp and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). Distinguished by its elegant and innovative body, the Porsche 356 was first produced as a convertible and then as a hard top. Father and son developed it in the workshop of Erwin Komenda, a master of restrained streamlining who had been in charge of sheet metal and design techniques for Ferdinand Porsche since the VW Beetle. This new style of closed coupe designed by Komenda soon became the embodiment of the sports car, due in part to its "fastback". The 911 became instantly recognizable: it had an attractive sloping bonnet reminiscent of the 356, what later became characterized as "frog eye" headlights, curves running from the top edge of the windscreen to the rear bumper, and a straight waistline. From a functional and technical point of view it shared more in common with a BMW 1500, but it retained the distinctive stylistic features of the original Porsche. The new 911 became the keystone of Porsche's identity, even though the design was not always fully appreciated. During the 1970's and 1980's, many Porsche designers attempted to distance Porsche from its legendary design and nearly brought the company to the edge of disaster. The more modern 924 model, "a people's Porsche", developed with Volkswagen, as well as the 928 fell short fulfilling expectations, and failed to allow the company to branch out in new directions and styles. However, in the 1990's the company seemed to realize that what some perceived as a stylistic straitjacket was in fact a market advantage. During this period Porsche embraced the timeless nature of classic styling to become highly profitable.

Double wishbone suspension layouts are a race-bred tradition at Maserati and the Ghibli continues with this heritage but also incorporates some new technologies for greater accuracy. Utilising a suspension layout and software system that has already proven a hit in the Quattroporte, the Ghibli has high-mounted all-aluminium double wishbones at the front to guarantee light and precise handling characteristics. Aluminium is the dominant metal of the front suspension system, with the dome nuts, the hub carrier bars and uprights all made from forged aluminium, while the springs are steel. This matches up to constantly adaptive Skyhook dampers and an anti-roll bar. The geometry of the system has delivered a quadrilateral architecture, which has enabled Maserati’s handling team to deliver steering that is precise, communicative and comfortable. The rear suspension employs a firmer version of the Quattroporte’s five-bar multi-link system, with four aluminium suspension arms, and has achieved the conflicting targets of executive ride comfort and extreme sports performance. The Ghibli’s suspension package is based around a fixed rate damping system to control the movement of its steel springs and anti-roll bars.

All Ghiblis are available with the option of the Skyhook adaptive damping system, where all four Skyhook dampers can now be electronically controlled independent of each other. This is a variation of the Quattroporte’s standard system, though its performance and tuning has been heavily modified to cater for the Ghibli’s more dynamic ethos. The default mode for the optional Skyhook system prioritises comfort, and then becomes more athletic if the driver presses the suspension button. This extra damping stiffness pushes the Ghibli’s handling to even higher levels and its tune was developed in both extreme test scenarios and on the racetrack. Essentially, it drastically reduces both longitudinal and lateral load transfers and minimises body roll to bring out the sportiest side of the car’s character. The computer system in control of the Skyhook dampers monitors an enormous array of parameters, including speed and lateral and longitudinal acceleration, individual wheel movements, body movement and damper dynamics. Adjusting also to suit the suspension mode chosen by the driver, the system delivers the perfect damping mode for each wheel almost instantly.

Late this year, the Ghibli Diesel will be available with the option of a Sports suspension setup, which will be based around the fixed damping system rather than the optional Skyhook system. While the architecture of the Sport suspension is unchanged, it lowers the ride height by 10 mm and uses stiffer springs and firmer, dual-rate Koni dampers that adjust to varying conditions. Featuring 18-inch rims as standard equipment, the Ghibli is also available with 19”, 20” or 21-inch rims as well. While the 18’’ 19” and 20” alloys are crafted from flow-forming technology that reduces the core thickness of the wheels and prioritises light weight without sacrificing stiffness and strength. The 21” rim is a forged alloy wheel, which also emphasises light weight and is no heavier than the 20” rim. All the Ghibli’s rims have been designed and engineered to enhance both the visual design of the body and to lower the unsprung masses to improve grip and handling.

Volkswagen Wants Other Automakers To Use Its MEB Electric Platform

Volkswagen has yet to launch a single electric vehicle on its new MEB electric platform, but it already wants to share it with other automakers. The German automaker has been working on the platform for years and it was finally unveiled a few months ago. Over the years, VW has been unveiling a series of ‘I.D.’ concept vehicles that will eventually result in production vehicles utilizing the new platform. There’s the I.D., a Golf-sized vehicle, which is expected to be their first mass-market EV for the model year 2020. VW also unveiled the I.D. VIZZION sedan, the crossover all-electric I.D. CROZZ Concept, and then there’s the I.D. They have yet to unveil the production version of any of those vehicles, but the first one is expected to go into production at the end of the year. Now,Volkswagen is inviting other automakers to also use the MEB platform. “Regarding this area, I think that we are industry forerunners in terms of costs and scalability. Therefore, we want to offer access to the MEB, by making it available to the entire industry. He didn’t name any automaker, but Ford has been rumored to be considering using the platform. Last month, Ford and VW announced a partnership that includes considering partnering on electric vehicles. Interesting move. We don’t know many details about the MEB platform but at first glance, it doesn’t look like they have anything special.

Audi Q7 - Audi MediaCenter - 웹Chrome and brushed aluminum trim add elegance with a hint of technology. Everything seems perfectly tailored and fitted. The seats are excellent, supportive and comfortable, much better than most. We've found it sometimes takes time to get comfortable in Volkswagen seats, but we were immediately comfortable in the Touareg. Visibility from the driver's seat is quite good, aided rearward by huge outside mirrors. All controls are easy to reach. The steering column tilts and telescopes manually; optional power adjustments make it easier to fine-tune its position. The switchgear, climate control, audio controls, and window lifts all feel smooth and sophisticated. Move the turn signal lever momentarily and the signals flash three times, handy for lane changes. Instruments are attractive and easy to read, big and clearly marked, using white-on-black graphics. Robust climate controls make adjusting the temperature quick and easy. The standard two-zone system (with rear A/C) does an excellent job. The optional four-zone system, allowing separate control of each of the four primary seating positions, may be overkill but it does give passengers more control over their personal space and it works well.

Farther down on the center console are big round knobs for controlling the differential locks and air suspension (when equipped). The center armrest features a ring designed to hold large water bottles. Overhead, you'll find a small indigo display with compass and clock along with a pair of nicely designed map lights. The glove box is air-conditioned, so you can store a sandwich or beverage in there. Touareg's optional Navigation System provides traditional route guidance with mapping and voice announcements. The Navigation System is being upgraded halfway through the 2006 model year. The system includes a neat off-road navigation mode with compass, altimeter, and GPS coordinates. A tracking mode leaves an electronic trail that can be used to retrace your route. The automatic wipers respond well to changing conditions. While driving through a squall in the mountains near Park City, Utah, they quickly changed the wiper speed from ultra-fast to slow to intermittent, then stopped them altogether when the going got dry. The rear seats are firm, supportive, and comfortable.

The back seat of a Touareg is a pleasant place to be and we spent several hours there, sometimes in extreme terrain. Vents in the B-pillars help direct air back there and the four-zone climate control offers individual temperature controls. A second heat exchanger for the rear seats helps get heat back there quickly on cold mornings. Fold down the rear seats and Touareg offers 71 cubic feet of cargo space with a nice, flat floor. The Volkswagen Touareg feels like a well-engineered vehicle carved from a single block. It's relatively quiet underway, the V6 and V8 engines are smooth, and the six-speed automatic transmission is really smooth. The 3.2-liter V6 lacks the gusto to propel the Touareg with authority. It was revised to produce more power for 2005, bringing the total to 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 229 pound-feet of torque at 3200 rpm. Though smooth and quiet, the 3.2-liter V6 Touareg took about 9.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60, slow by anyone's stopwatch.

2019 Audi Q5, Hybrid, SQ5 Model

The newest 2019 Audi Q5 will arrive with a lot of impressive updates. An all-new look is on the cards, the interior is more welcoming and modern while the exterior design is astonishing. The rest of the upgrades includes changes in a mechanical category such as new suspension. The powertrains are upgraded, and the upcoming model is slightly larger too. Based on the MLB platform that uses high-strength steel and heavy aluminum use, the 2019 Audi Q5 is lighter than before. So, we have a larger but lighter compact SUV that will hit the markets next year. There would be up to five engine options and the all-wheel-drive system included. While there are faster or appealing compact SUVs on the market, new Audi Q5 is a whole package that is hard to beat. The forthcoming 2019 Audi Q5 looks astonishing. However, the overall design is kinda minimalistic but there are more than enough details.

This compact SUV is available in five trim levels and up to 14 different exterior colors. Each trim adds something new and better, and overall, the styling is more and more distinctive. Some exterior packages are in the offer as well, a Sport and Design packages are available that adds a new set of wheels and plenty of chrome materials. Larger than its predecessor, the 2019 Audi Q5 is 15.3 feet long and 6.2 feet wide. However, thanks to the heavy use of aluminum materials, this SUV is lighter than the previous model. The upcoming Q5 will be around 200 pounds lighter. When it comes to the exterior look, Q5 comes with more sharp lines and more detailing. The bubbly feel is gone and is replaced for a more muscular crossover look. On top of that, the latest design is more aerodynamic. The front end adds angular headlights and a more menacing look. The front grille comes with harder edges and air intakes are lower.

If you think the exterior got some significant changes, you are wrong as the interior got even more updates. A familiar Audi’s interior design will remain but on the other hand, basically, everything from the inside is all-new. The interior includes a Virtual Cockpit gauge cluster, thinner dash, minimalistic HVAC controls and much more. The center console holds a new design and new electronic gear shifter. Steering wheel stays intact while the dash includes a single 12.3-inch TFT display and digital gauges. An infotainment screen is placed above the center console and it is an 8.3-inch touchscreen. Thanks to the LTE Wi-Fi the customers can use the 2019 Audi Q5 as a hotspot. Moreover, wireless phone charger is in the offer, just like the optional Bang &Olufsen audio system. Rear seats are offering ample legroom and decent headroom. HVAC vents are offered even at the back and rear seat entertainment package is available as an option.

The seats are folding flat in order to create a generous cargo room. Standard cargo space is rated at 21.5 cubic feet while with the folded seats that area increases to 54.7 cubic feet. The newest Audi SQ5 will be a highlight of the company`s offer. This SUV is an ultimate performance vehicle that comes with great technology update and luxury if we compare it to the standard one. The changes are evident and the newest 2019 Audi SQ5 is powerful and attractive as never before. This sporty model features platinum gray Singleframe grille and three-dimensional full LED headlights that looks very good. The changes are also seen on the back and the new SQ5 will get stylish taillight. The interior of 2019 Audi Q5 is very futuristic and it will offer much more tech than the standard model. It will get three-spoke multifunction flat-bottom sport steering wheel that is available with SQ5 logo on the center. The seats are covered with a Fine Nappa leather and it will use heating technology. One can also add massage function that is optional.

Fresh Auto Reviews

Volkswagen Touareg Auto Wallpapers GroenLicht.beSo it's not just advertising hype to say the current generation Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra -- the market leaders -- are state-of-the-art. Even the Dodge Ram, though dated and a distant third in sales, still is distinctive, with its big-rig styling. Into this competitive buzz saw has come Toyota, whose redesigned Tundra is a distant fourth, though gaining. And, bringing up the rear -- at least in sales -- is today's subject, the Nissan Titan, with fewer than 46,000 sold through August. A week with a Titan helps to explain why it isn't doing better. A little research completes the picture. While the Titan obviously has been designed with great attention to detail and for the specific needs of customers who buy these bruisers, in the end it does not excel. Good as the Titan is, it fails to offer loyal Ford, GM, Dodge or even Tundra owners a compelling reason to switch.

Unlike the Tundra, it fails even to offer the promise of Japanese quality; Consumer Reports deems Nissan's big truck much worse than average in reliability, based on the magazine's annual surveys of its readers-vehicle owners. In fact, Nissan is proof that Japanese cars are no longer necessarily better than domestic models; the carmaker is a below-average performer in most of J.D. Well, it is a competitively designed large truck, from the throbbing V-8 under the hood to the plastic-protected bed with its clever cargo tie-down system. For '08 there's a new variation -- a long-wheelbase model called the 4x4 PRO-4X. It's intended for serious off-roading, and, considering that, its ride is amazingly civilized, with virtually none of the jounce one usually experiences in such models. Some reviewers have complained about the Titan's engine and driveline noise, but, though it's ever-present, I didn't find it tiresome or even objectionable. The wind noise, though, was another matter at highway speeds.

Back on the upside, the steering system is responsive and nicely weighted. The Pro comes in King or Crew cab style -- the former meaning a smaller cab with two rear doors that have their hinges at the rear; the latter meaning a larger cab with all four doors opening conventionally. Nissan offers four bed lengths in long-wheelbase models: the fairly useless 5.5 feet that's easily filled with a few pieces of redwood furniture or a few bundles of brush; 6.5 feet, and, new for '08, 7 feet and 8 feet. You'll have to opt for the shorter King cab to get the most useful, 8-foot bed. The longest bed available in Crew cab models is 7 feet, which means that 8-foot-long building material has to extend onto the tailgate. 25,135 with freight for an XE King cab with a 6.5-foot bed and with the same 5.6-liter V-8 as in all Titans, delivering 317 horsepower.

All Titans come with automatic transmission. 1,200 -- a package I would recommend you seriously consider. The Titan gets a good-as-they-come five-star rating from the federal government for its protection of the driver in frontal crashes; the rating is four stars for the passenger. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also deems the Titan "good" in frontal crashes. But neither the Feds nor the institute have side-impact ratings for this model. 39,275 for Crew cab models. All '08s have freshened styling and new wheel styles, Nissan says, plus new seats and revised instrumentation. The tester's black-on-white analog gauges, part of the PRO-4X package, were first-rate: easy to read. In fact, the entire interior was first-rate. Controls are simple to operate, large enough and logically located. I found the seats excellent and the optional fore and aft adjustable pedals a welcome feature. The center console has a deep-lidded compartment ideal for a laptop and some files. The tester's five-speed automatic transmission was as commendably smooth as the tester's ride. And it was easy to control through the accelerator pedal. Manual downshifting for engine braking isn't quite as easy as it could be. The '08 Titans went on sale in the spring. The new long-wheelbase models also include a larger 37-gallon (versus 28-gallon) fuel tank, which brings up a drawback of all large pickups (and one reason they don't sell as well as they used to): fuel economy. 300) running boards are not available. In sum, the Titan continues to be a contender worth considering for its many thoughtful features -- especially if there's a Nissan dealer with whom you like to do business. But this is a tough arena, the choice is not an easy one and the Titan is not a standout.

To Be Absolutely Fair

Happy Little Boy Holding Blank Chalkboard
A lot of superlative pluses have been showered on the sixth incarnation of Volkswagen's iconic GTI thus far. Name me one absolutely bad test review and I shall buy you a dinner of your choice. So is this about to change here: the dark & ugly side of the Mk6 GTI be dissected upon and laid bare for all to feast? First, the price increase: from RM198k to RM211k. It's a new generation you might argue. Well, most Mk5 owners might say it is more of just a re-skin exercise ala Audi A4's B6 to B7 generations. And not forgetting the more aptly-matching Golf-R's rear-LED lights with alien-like 'written' characters akin to the Na'vi tribe's in Avatar. So much for the Mk6 Golf GTI's "No enhancements needed" tagline from VW Group Malaysia, eh? To be absolutely fair, the Mk6 handles tighter than how most wives keep tab on their husband's whereabouts and/or finances.

The level of grip is phenomenal with tightness into and out of corner that defies belief. Body control isn't just taut, it's damn bloody tied down! Solid. Rock steady. Enabling a tracking of corners that will awe most of us, if not all those with a keen sporty driving instinct. The steering though a bit artificial (with DCC et al) in feedback and feel, is quick, weighs just about-okay and sharply accurate. Well, the steering wheel itself with red stitching, aluminium bits, micro-pocked leather sections and flat-bottom passes off like an expensive Sport option from the boys at AMG, M-division or Dr Ing HcF Porsche. The brakes though snatchy and quite hard to modulate initially - like the Audi A4 TFSI (B7) - are very clinical in scrubbing off speed, hence reassuring for late braking into corners. While those lovely bucket seats will keep you snugly planted whatever your lateral, accelerating and decelerating antics are. For the record, Vmax of the Mk6 GTI is an indicative 248km/h, tried and tested on a private stretch of road, and this is stock standard performance. Average fuel consumption that ranges from 8.2l/100km for cool, sedate, long-distance driving to a high of 13.5l/100km for those speed demon blasts! For that, it takes a very well engineered car to stay calm & composed, plus that fuel efficient. With that, I guess I'd still not have to buy anyone their preferred meal off a restaurant's evening menu.

There is an AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid reservoir that lives under the spare tire that does need to be topped up periodically. In terms of driving dynamics, the Touareg TDI doesn’t surprise, considering its size and heft. The steering remains hydraulically-assisted, but don’t expect sports car levels of feedback here. It is accurate and does the job well. The sport suspension from the R-Line doesn’t actually change very much - comfort at low and high speeds remains excellent at all times. The impressive-looking multi-piston brakes also do the job, but brake feel isn’t great - one would almost describe it as being a little numb. The Volkswagen CC we recently tested felt the same way; it might just be a Volkswagen family thing. The TDI engine exhibits only a little bit of turbo lag before full boost comes on - first gear is short enough to mostly mitigate this. I never got a chance to take the Touareg off-road, but aggressive approach and departure angles (Jeep lingo here) and short-ish overhangs make for good credentials should you need them. I was fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to put the Touareg through its paces by helping some friends move across the city.

They are a young married couple - both teachers - and had a lot of random gadgets that needed to be moved. I folded the rear seats down and loaded up box after box. One small issue of note: while the cargo area is usefully shaped, the load floor is not completely flat with the rear seats folded down. There is a small step you need to get over when pushing boxes forward. Other than that, the Touareg swallowed up an impressive amount of stuff that young couples like to accumulate. Thanks to the premium market positioning of the Q7 and Cayenne, it’s safe to assume the Touareg’s pricing wouldn’t be far off. My TDI Highline tester came very well equipped, with the aforementioned satellite navigation, full-leather seating surfaces, heated steering wheel, bi-xenon HID headlamps, 20” wheels, comfort access, the list goes on. It has pretty much everything one would expect for the price. My particular car also had the R-Line package, which adds many sporty cosmetic touches, such as brushed aluminum interior trim, tailgate spoiler, paddle shifters for the transmission, sport suspension, and the all-important R-Line badge on the front fenders.

It’s a pretty decent value in itself considering the standard and available equipment, and also considering how the Touareg’s cousins ask for considerably more once you start checking some option boxes. A base Audi Q7 TDI, for comparison is right around the same price, but is about as well equipped as a loaded-up Touareg. You do get the third row of seating standard if that’s what you’re looking for, and then there’s the badge in the front grille. 100,000 mark if you get excited with the options. The BMW X5 xDrive35d sits somewhere in between the Q7 and Cayenne, again, depending on the options selected. The dark horse in the room is the excellent Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel, new for this year. It matches the Touareg TDI in a lot of respects and is worth a look. I’ve never been a big SUV kind of guy. I gravitate to smaller vehicles for their superior driving dynamics and overall efficiency. I think a good wagon can provide almost all of the cargo capacity while being much better to drive for the times you’re not moving houses. However, I can give credit where it’s due - the VW Touareg is an excellent SUV, and the TDI powertrain is the logical choice and makes everything better. The answer to my earlier question on whether the Touareg is just a working-man’s Audi or Porsche: not really. It’s different enough to be looked at by a slightly different target audience, but still upscale enough so you don’t feel like you’ve sold yourself short.

The Evolution Of The Volkswagen Jetta

With the release of the sixth-generation Volkswagen Jetta, it seems appropriate to look at the history of this influential model and the impact it has had on the market. The first generation was released in 1980 available in a 2-door or 4-door saloon/sedan as a way of matching demand for a tradition three-box-saloon design. The second generation would follow in 1984, with a similar design but allowing seating for more people as well as a larger and heavier body. Thanks to innovations such as the optional trip computer, transmission mounts and silicon dampened engine - all of which helped to reduce noise levels and vibrations. This was further developed in 1988 with the creation of an electronic fuel injection system, known as the Digifant Engine Management system. The third generation, released in 1992, was renamed the Volkswagen Vento in European companies but kept the Jetta name in North America. The styling of the car was different this time, introducing aerodynamic measures and refinements over the second generation.

It was also at this time that sales in North America began to dwindle, but thanks to this generation, they rebounded significantly and remained the best-selling Volkswagen in the United States. The fourth generation which came to light in 1998 was known as the Volkswagen Bora throughout the world. Still popular in comparison, this generation played it a bit safer than others - despite offering a number of extras. This model was also released just after the Volkswagen Passat, with which it shares some similarities in terms of appearance. The Bora was highly regarded for safety measures and anti-theft facilities, which bolstered reviews. This particular model is still manufactured and marketed in China, as well as being sold in countries such as Canada, Argentina and Brazil. The fifth generation which appeared in 2005, being put up for sale in USA before any others, was an important point for Volkswagen, who had just spent over £500,000 on upgrading the production factory. This particular model has a variety of names, such as the Vento and Bora, as well as the Sagitar and GLI. There was also a greater focus placed on the styling of the new model, with a chrome front grille. The sixth generation, announced in North America in June of 2010, is larger yet cheaper to produce than the fifth generation. With this generation, Volkswagen hope to target the American mass market and create an affordable yet reliable car. Already proving popular within the market, the Jetta is expected to reach the same leasing levels of Golf leasing within the UK. The new Jetta went on sale on July 22nd and has already received good reviews. It will go on sale in European markets in 2011, with a hybrid model and a sedan version also planned for the year.

Questions To Ask When Deciding On Van Upfitting

If you have a cargo van in your fleet, you appreciate how handy these vehicles are for your operations. Whatever the type of business you are in, a good van serves as a worthy workhorse. It can serve for transporting goods, tools and work equipment. Vans are a favorite with service providers due to the large cargo space, powerful engine, and versatile body design. Modern vans now come with cutting-edge features making them safer and more efficient. However, your commercial van can only do so much with the original manufacturer’s design and features, and this is where van upfitting comes in handy. By upfitting, you will customize the van to meet your specific business purposes. The process includes fitting tailored accessories for your van model to suit your business needs. However good the van you buy looks, you will soon realize there are some jobs it can’t do. If you are a contractor, for instance, you might need a ladder rack on your van to make it easier to transport ladders and other bulky tools.

Van upfitters work with you to understand your business needs and identify accessories such as van shelving and roof racks which can boost the performance of your workhorse. They are specialists in customizing accessories for vans, and they will get the job done within the time you have set out. A van upfitter supply premium van parts and accessories which they then tailor to suit your business needs. Now that you have decided to uplift your van to boost your operations, there are some crucial factors to consider. Is Van Upfitting Necessary Now? One of the biggest concerns commercial van owners have with upfitting is the time and cost the project consumers. They ask and rightly so whether the project is worth the investment. Well, to appreciate the importance of upfitting your van, you need to consider the impact it will have on your operations. Some fittings such as ladder racks and fog lights enhance safety and reduce the chances of injuries for your crew. High safety standards avert costly work compensation lawsuits and property damage cases. Other van accessories such as shelves and van partitions help organize cargo space leading to more productivity.

In essence, every custom fitting has a job, and in combination, all these fittings give you a competitive edge in your business. What Is The Feeling Of The Crew About Upfitting? Before going ahead with an upfitting job, it is important to talk to your crew. Remember these are the people who use the vehicle and they understand their needs better. Many crew managers make decisions without consulting the crew and end up regretting their decision. While van upfitting has many benefits, it is crucial to bring everyone on board to incorporate all ideas for a better upfitting job. What Is The Exact Purpose Of A Specific Upfitting Job? The fact that every extra system fitted on the cargo van cost money makes it necessary to review the benefit to the business. In this regard, you need to ask whether the upfitting job will enhance safety conditions, boost productivity or improve flexibility in the working conditions. By asking these questions, you will avoid unnecessary fittings proposed by the crew or the van upfitters. What Is the Van Upfitter’s Experience In Job? The popularity of vans on the roads has seen many upfitting companies emerge in every city.

Before working with any upfitting company, ask for their work experience in the industry. It is advisable to work with only experienced upfitters who have access to the best van accessories and parts. Talk to other van owners and get referrals and take time also to read reviews and testimonials by other van upfitting clients. The more information you have about your van upfitter, the better to evaluate their services. Do You Give Any Quality And Safety Guarantees For Your Products? Before allowing any upfitting job to start on your commercial van, ask for quality and safety guarantees of the parts used. A reliable upfitter will provide guarantees for all parts used. They will also explain the quality standard tests done on these parts to guarantee their performance and safety. If possible, look for third-party certifications for the tailored parts to confirm their quality. What Is The Range Of Your Van Accessories? To identify the most reliable van upfitters in the market, look at the range of custom accessories they have in their inventory. For a good van upfitting job, look for an upfitter who offers both the accessories and the upfitting job under one roof.

Review: 2017 Volkswagen Golf R - Canadian Auto ReviewIt doesn't really matter if the talent level in your foursome is different as there are three ways to get a point on each hole. The first one on the green gets Bingo, after everyone is on the green whoever is closest to the pin gets Bango and whoever scores the best score gets Bongo. One point for each gives everyone a chance to get points. Sometimes being just off the green on your approach gives you a better chance at scoring Bango but maybe less of a chance of getting Bingo or Bongo. Great lens. I do play sometimes and the Golf Cart Polo sounds like fun. Hmmmm, Golf Cart Polo? I'll remember that next time I have a rebellious streak! This is great for changing up the game a bit. Great ideas for adding creativity on the golf course. I need to try these out soon! I like the stink hole game considering that I am not a very good putter. I don't know how many times I have chipped the ball on the green and wished the pin placement was at a different spot.

I would save a lot of strokes this way. Some good ideas here. Some cool ideas here. But a point about your "best ball" game. You are actually describing a scramble. The term "best ball" is used to describe a game where the player who has the best score for a given hole counts for the team. Each player plays their own ball throughout. The nice thing about best ball is that you can keep track of your individual score while still having the team score. A variation is the Texas Scramble in which all 4 players in a foursome tee off. They pick the best tee shot of the 4 but play individually for the rest of the hole. This can be helpful if you have some players who hit into the woods, water, OB. There is less time spent looking for lost balls. Me and my friends love to enter Four Man Scramble tournaments.

You can shoot really low, our lowest score was -18 at a course in Orlando, FL. It takes the pressure away as everybody hits from the same spot after choosing the best previous shot. Ever hear of RED ball? Each team plays with a red ball, taking turns hitting it on each hole. At the end the team who has not lost their red ball puts it in a jar for a drawing. The balls are numbered with the team number in advance. I had no idea, thanks! Best Ball as you define it is called a scramble. Best ball is as it sounds, the lowest score on each hole is counted for the score of the team. Golf cart polo sounds fun, but I agree you'd get kicked off pretty handily. Thanks for the great list. A friend of mine likes to play Wolf, but he's a lot better than I am. He plays in a regular Wolf game at Cobblestone Golf Course in Georgia. Their group usually has too much money for me to feel comfortable with. I'm going to suggest some of the new games that I found on your lens.

Cannot be happier with the GPS reception. Even when parked at the 2nd floor car park with out 10% viewing of the sky, the reception was 3/12 satellite. The new GPS antenna looks more sleek than the older fin ! The standard opening of the hatch via the remote on the key fob is horrendous. All you get is a "click" and a very very slight movement on the hatch indicating that it is "opened". You will need to lift it with your hands to get it to open up. We fitted the automatic "pop my hatch" kit to the Golf 7 and it did wonders ! Now all I have to do is to stand back, press the remote and the hatch pops right open wide ! Very wide in fact. Seems much wider than on the Golf 6, a friend from Malaysia have commented ! Guess he is right !

7 is higher than 6 ! A "Must Have" in my opinion. My quest for this comes with a price. It is not as simple to install as it was on the Passat B6/7. Volkswagen have made it very much more difficult for folks like myself to do retrofitting by adding the Component Protection feature on the ACC controller. It can only be activated online via VASPC or ODIS. However, my European gurus have a way around it. They are are genius working there. To install the radar, it is not as simple as hiding it behind the emblem now. We have to replace the whole bumper guard behind the front bumper moulding with an original part number which comes with a proper retainer to hold the radar. Top is original without holder. A new lower radiator grille is also needed to be fitted. As such, all the lower trims have to be replaced with matching trims. The lower side trims, fog light trims and the special ACC center lower trims.

New, the steering wheel. The original steering of the base Golf VII does not have anything. Don't even dream about paddle shifters for the DSG. Trend Line 1.2 model. That only have a horn button ! That model is a church mouse edition. The ACC requires a special steering wheel with the built in ACC control button which is different from the normal Cruise Control feature. Upon activation, the MFD changes to ACC mode and shows the Lane Assist ( works in conjunction ). If there is a vehicle in front, it would display a model of a vehicle on the MFD. Many of us do a lot of our own motorcycle maintenance and repair. The motivations for this are varied, but cost savings is probably the number one reason. I know it is for me! I've been an Automotive Technician for more years than I wish to remember, and it pains me to pay anyone to perform a service or repair I should be able to do myself. If I hadn’t been doing my own service and repairs I’m not sure I would have been able to afford the “Fine Piece of German Engineering” I have been riding for the past 130,000 miles. It's the little things that we do ourselves that can really add up in cost savings. One of those tasks is mounting and balancing our own tires. When I returned to riding I was shocked at how quickly those ZR-series skins wore out. I was used to getting 40-50,000 miles on a set of tires on my car, but only 6,000 on a set of motorcycle tires? Being the frugal person that I am, I bought my first set of replacement tires over the Internet.

2012 Volkswagen Touareg (7P MY12.5) V6 TDI 4MOTION wagon (2015-06-03) 01.jpg English: 2012 Volkswagen Touareg (7P MY12.5) V6 TDI 4MOTION wagon
30.00 per tire to mount and balance. This was a two-to-three hour procedure just to travel to and from the shop, and it was only possible during their normal hours of operation, obviously. I needed to come up with a better plan. After some experimentation, I found I could do the dismounting and mounting where I work on one of the automotive tire machines. Two riding buddies and I split the cost on a balancer for home, and this paid for itself -- or my share anyway -- with the first set of tires. But wouldn’t it be great if I could do everything at home whenever I needed to and not pay someone to scratch my rims? No more driving the cage to work on a beautiful day or riding around with the tire and rim from my son’s Gixxer strapped onto the back seat of my K1200LT. Thus the plan to purchase a tire mounting machine for home was hatched.

A search on the Internet for motorcycle tire changers resulted in several hits for both manual and automatic/power assisted changers. A powered automatic unit, commonly found in a professional shop, was out of the question due to its high cost. This left me with a few products that all seemed to work in the same manner via a long bar for removing and installing the tire bead from the rim. But my bike has painted alloy rims which can be easily scratched if clamped improperly or with jaws that have no protective treatment/covering. When using the machines at work I would always wrap the clamps that held the rim to the turntable with duct tape to prevent damage, which was a nuisance. Although there were cheaper brands, I found only one motorcycle tire changer that mentioned that their clamping system and bead bar were designed specifically not to mar any wheel, and hence their name, No-Mar. The creation of the No-Mar motorcycle tire changer was developed out of frustration by a motorcycle enthusiast tired of paying someone a bunch of money only to end up with scratched rims.

No-Mar’s goal is to manufacture an affordable motorcycle tire changer that’s fast, easy to use and safe on ALL types of rims, including carbon fiber (see their video for special handling procedures). They claim to continuously refine their products to make them efficient and easy to use without harming any type of rim. And, the No-Mar motorcycle tire changer is made right here in the U.S.A. No-Mar has several motorcycle tire changer models available, including "heavy duty" models for the more demanding environments such as a professional repair shop that replace numerous tires on a daily basis. One of the things I appreciated, as a prospective buyer, was the fact that No-Mar provides online videos that demonstrate the use and operation of all of their equipment. When needed, I could slide the tire changer into the receiver on my truck, do my tire changing and then store it out of harm's way, or maybe even hoist it overhead in the garage.

It will cost you a lot of money to replace that windscreen and to avert such costs; you should invest in high-quality van bulkheads. A sturdy bulkhead restrains cargo inside the van irrespective of the magnitude of a crash. There is minimal damage to your vehicle, and it is thus easier to get the van back on the road. In some situations, cargo flying from your van can cause serious injuries to people outside the van or property damage. A simple accident can mutate into a big lawsuit which can bring your business to its knees. To avoid hefty fines and compensation, you should install custom cargo partitioning early enough. It is the only way to avoid causing damage outside the van in case of an accident. When researching the best van partition, look for versatile, durable and easy to use systems. A good van partition should allow monitoring of the van area from the driver’s cabin. The partition should also open and close easily preferably using an automatic lock system.
